Ja Rule’s Fyre Festival Turns In Disaster, Attendees Go On Twitter Rampage

(AllHipHop News) Ja Rule’s highly touted luxury festival has gotten a bevy of bad press for being a disaster after several high profile acts pulled out and attendees have taken to twitter to express their views.

The Fyre Fest bragged about being “the cultural experience of the decade” and even touted high-end music acts like “Pusha T, Tyga, Desiigner, Major Lazer, Disclosure, Blink-182, Migos, and Lil Yachty. Additionally, there was a fashion component that offered up Kendall Jenner, Alessandra Ambrosio, Hailey Baldwin and others. Packages to attend the festival went as high as $250,000.

Even though the festival was this weekend, it has all seemingly fallen apart on the islands of Exumas in the Bahamas.

Ja Rule and the Fyre Festival team have issued a statement taking ownership of what has happened.

Fyre Festival set out to provide a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience on the Islands of the Exumas.
Due to circumstances out of our control, the physical infrastructure was not in place on time and we are unable to fulfill on that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests. At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get everyone off of Great Exuma and home safely as quickly as we can. We ask that guests currently on-island do not make their own arrangements to get to the airport as we are coordinating those plans. We are working to place everyone on complimentary charters back to Miami today; this process has commenced and the safety and comfort of our guests is our top priority.

The festival is being postponed until we can further assess if and when we are able to create the high- quality experience we envisioned.

We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation during this difficult time as we work as quickly and safely as we can to remedy this unforeseeable situation. We will continue to provide regular updates via email to our guests and via our official social media channels as they become available.

-The Fyre Festival Team

Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism in the Bahamas has issued an apology as well due to the onslaught of international press Fyre Fest has created.

Right now, the festival has been postponed for the indefinite future.

Here are some of the social media responses.

Troy Ave Slams Joe Budden For Claiming He Only Sold 830 Copies Of ‘NuPac’

(AllHipHop News) Joe Budden may really be getting under Troy Ave’s skin.

The two East Coast rappers have been exchanging jabs at each other over the last few weeks.

Troy even dissed Budden on his song “Truth Be Told PSA” off his recent NuPac project, and he went on to suggest Budden is leeching off DJ Akademiks for their Everyday Struggle show.

At the end of Thursday’s episode of the Complex News series, Budden fired back at “Boy Ave” by claiming NuPac only sold around 830 copies.

“Rest in peace Troy Ave’s career,” said Budden.

That led to Troy jumping on Instagram with a message directed at the Slaughterhouse member.

The Brooklyn native wrote:

While NuPac is available on free download sites such as My Mixtapez and Datpiff, the project can also be purchased on iTunes and streamed on Apple Music, Tidal, and Spotify.

Albums sales could be a touchy subject for Troy since he was widely ridiculed when his 2015 indie album Major Without A Deal reportedly only sold 7,000 units in the first week of release.

At the time, Troy claimed that number as a victory and even stated he was “the people’s champ.”

Kendrick Lamar Breaks Drake & J. Cole’s On-Demand Streaming Songs Chart Record

(AllHipHop News) Besides being the current king of the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts, Kendrick Lamar is also the leader of the On-Demand Streaming Songs chart.

Songs off Lamar’s DAMN album control the top nine spots.

That makes the Compton emcee the first act to have nine concurrent songs in the Top 10.

Previously, Drake and J. Cole were tied for the record with eight tracks.

Drake accomplished that feat in 2016 and earlier this year.

J. Cole managed to occupy eight songs on that chart in 2016.

In addition, Lamar is the only act to have the top 9 records on the On-Demand Streaming Songs chart at the same time.

The TDE representative is just the sixth act to hold the #1 and #2 positions on the charts simultaneously (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Iggy Azalea, Meghan Trainor, and Justin Bieber).

“HUMBLE” and “DNA” lead the tally at the moment.

Love and Basketball: Greg Marius and the Legacy “The Rucker”

(AllHipHop Editorial) In 1982, as “Greg G” of the Harlem rap group Disco 4, Greg Marius challenged a rival rap group, The Crash Crew, to a basketball game while the groups were being interviewed on The Rap Attack hosted by Mr. Magic. The groups decided to meet up the next day at Mount Morris Park. When they arrived for the game, Marius was shocked to see that there were more than 1000 people waiting to watch. It was during that impromptu game that the Entertainers Basketball Classic was born.

Within years, music and sports stars were attracted to the event and the EBC eventually became one of the most prominent street basketball tournaments in the US. The EBC expanded over the years attracting sponsors who were drawn to the lure of thousands of fans with an affinity for luxury and sportswear brands. Marius united hip-hop, basketball, and urban marketing in a way that was previously unprecedented. Sponsors over the years included, Reebok, Gatorade, AT&T, and more. Games were often broadcast on NBA TV and inspired the film, Above the Rim.

Marius was a lifelong Harlem resident who was committed to keeping the EBC in his beloved neighborhood. He told the New York Daily News in 2010, “It’s been great that I’ve been able to create memories in Harlem, where I’m from.”

“Greg Marius was a visionary and a legend in the game of basketball. [Thanks to him] the world knew about the EBC and Rucker Park,” says Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League founder, Jahi Rawlings. “Not only was he a mentor, he’s a leader in the community and I will personally work to see that he gets into the Basketball Hall of Fame.”

Rooted in hip-hop, the EBC has seen teams hosted by Diddy, Jay Z and Fat Joe. In his book, Empire State of Mind: How Jay Z went from Street Corner to Corner Office, Zack O’Malley Greenburg recounts the epic 2003 season when Team S. Carter was slated to challenge Fat Joe’s Terror Squad in the championship game.

Synergies aside, the EBC wasn’t simply a marketing whim.

Jay-Z, a lifelong basketball fan, intended to win the summer tournament. To accomplish this goal, he’d have to unseat the defending champions, rival rapper Fat Joe’s Terror Squad, a team that boasted rugged NBA players Stephon Marbury and Ron Artest, both of whom had honed their skills in New York school yards. Jay-Z was unfazed. “He was like, ‘I’m going to bring this team together . . . I’m only going to do it once, and obviously, I plan to win,’ ” recalls Fab [Five Freddy]. “Then The Black Album was supposed to come out, and then he was going to retire.”

Jay’s team included Kenyon Martin, Tracy McGrady, Lamar Odom, and Sebastia Telfair. According to Telfair, Jay Z was a very hands-on team manager who would regularly call and email team players. The epic championship game, however, never took place. The 2003 EBC Championship game was canceled due to a power outage and Team S. Carter forfeited.

It is unclear what will become of the EBC with Greg Marius’ passing, one can only hope that the legendary summer series continues. Greg Marius was laid to rest on Thursday, April 27th in his beloved Harlem.

Killer Mike Interviews P-Funk Legend George Clinton About Hip Hop, The Dungeon Family & More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) It’s hard to imagine a “Dungeon Family Sound” without the musical legacy of George Clinton.

The leader of the iconic funk pioneers Parliament-Funkadelic was such a musical influence on the Atlanta rap crew that Clinton was even featured on OutKast’s “Synthesizer.”

Dungeon Family member Killer Mike sat down at his SWAG barber shop with Clinton for an NPR interview.

The 75-year-old Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee discussed running his own barber shop business, using counterfeit money to fund his music career, his eccentric fashion style, making introspective tunes, and the rise of Hip Hop.

“When Hip Hop came along, I just looked at it like, ‘Okay, this reminds me of when we were young… and my mother would say, “What the hell are you talking about?”‘ When I heard someone [beatboxing], it didn’t bother me,” said Clinton.

The singer-songwriter/producer also talked about once mentoring now-veteran Atlanta area hitmakers such as Dallas Austin, Jermaine Dupri, and Dungeon Family’s Organized Noize in the early 1990’s.

“They just let me be like the school teacher,” explained Clinton. “It was about music, and they would actually listen.”

According to the “Atomic Dog” performer, the Dungeon Family and OutKast inspired him as well.

“They gave me a lot of inspiration to keep going when they got to their height as OutKast. I ain’t got nothing to worry about,” Clinton added.

Drake Is Vacationing Next To J. Lo and Alex Rodriguez

(AllHipHop News) Drake is vacationing in the same complex where reported ex Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez got really close a few weeks ago.

The “Hotline Bling” hitmaker has jetted off to the Dominican Republic for a break and he’s staying at Casa De Campo, the same luxury complex where J.Lo and A-Rod enjoyed a little one-on-one time recently.

Sources tell TMZ the rapper is chilling in a five-bedroom $7.85 million oceanfront villa.

It’s not the first time he has enjoyed the luxury pad – he shot French Montana’s “No Shopping” music video there last year.

Drake and J.Lo were briefly linked earlier this year, before Jennifer found love with retired baseball superstar Rodriguez.
