#AHHPowerfulWomen: Exclusive Tour Executive, Tina Farris Shows Her Grace Under Pressure in the Music Industry

#AHHPowefulWomen

(AllHipHop Features) Since being invited to join the touring family of the Legendary Roots Crew back in 1999, Tina hasn’t looked back, amassing a client list that has included some of music’s hottest acts including Lil’ Wayne, Fergie, The Black Eyed Peas, Nicki Minaj, Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Maxwell, and Mayer Hawthorne just to name a few. After her humble beginnings, she managed the highest grossing tour in the history of Hip-Hop, Lil’ Wayne’s AMERICA’S MOST WANTED TOUR. The following year, she hit the road with The Black Eyed Peas, guiding the group through 15 countries, 76 cities and 99 sold out shows before 1.3 million attendees, grossing more than $86 million dollars along the way. In 2011, she rejoined Lil’ Wayne when he and Nicki Minaj headed out on the I AM STILL MUSIC TOUR. Currently, she’s using her masterful skills to guide the elusive D’Angelo during his critically-acclaimed comeback run in Europe and the United States.

Since then she’s acquired 2016 Grammy nominated cult classic band The Internet as well as award-winning gospel duo Mary Mary and newcomer and already a hit TY Dolla $ign.

It doesn’t take much to see that Tina’s ability to reach across genres while managing tours of all sizes gets results. Her ability to iron out even the most minute details, while also diplomatically leading her clients through unexpected snafus. The occasional political unrest has made her one of the industry’s most successful touring experts. While many adjectives could be used to describe Tina—determined, unapologetic, astute and intrepid, just to name a few—one word that won’t be used to describe her anytime soon is conventional.  Life on the road is not for the faint at heart, but Tina manages to make it look easy by juggling a hefty load complete with rained out stadiums, declined credit cards, strip searches, sexist promoters, antagonistic customs officers, demanding wives and everything in between.

Ms. Tina Farris truly shows grace under pressure handling some of the most impeccable tours in the world. In between scheduling these exclusive tours, she took some time to connect with AllHipHop to talk work, life and being a leader in the music industry.

AllHipHop: Could you explain what your job entails:

Tina Farris: I provide Innovative, strategic, proactive and resourceful tour and production management  with expertise in producing small, intimate concerts to multi-million dollar, dynamic entertainment experiences globally on behalf of world-renowned artists in the music industry

AllHipHop: What’s the most enjoyable part of the job and your duties:

Tina Farris: The reveal of the show. The moment the first note is played and the lights go up.

AllHipHop: What is the hardest part:

Tina Farris: Early morning lobby calls.

AllHipHop: Can you describe a moment of adversity personal and in your career?

Tina Farris: My hardest moment of adversity was deciding whether or not to have a family. It’s a career that you are married to.

AllHipHop: What keeps you from giving up?

Tina Farris: I love live music and traveling. Your managing satiates both my wanderlust and my ear.

AllHipHop: Who inspired you to become a leader or boss in the industry?

Tina Farris: Harvey Fuqua – my grandfather – who was a songwriter, producer and A&R for Motown put the touring bug in me. Richard Nichols, manager of the Roots, who gave me the chance and taught me how to finesse the industry as one of the sole women, let alone African Americans, on this side of management. But who showed me how to be a boss, and still does, is my grandmother Big Tina Farris. She pulls no punches.

AllHipHop: How do you balance work and personal life?

Tina Farris: The most difficult tight-rope walk ever. I’m still managing. But I found a teammate and a partner who doesn’t mind my brand of crazy. That’s the key.

AllHipHop: What do you like to do for fun?

Tina Farris: I like decorating my house and driving up the PCH.

AllHipHop: What does it mean to you to be a powerful woman and a boss in the urban music and hip-hop industry?

Tina Farris: It means that you have to have pretty tough skin and a hairdresser in every town. There’s a particular brand of misogyny in hip-hop and I’ve tried hard not to allow it to permeate my life. Nevertheless, sometimes it wins. I curse like a sailor and it’s not easy to pull anything over on me. The toughest part is knowing when to let it slide or when to tell someone about themselves. I’ve learned to be strategic based on my end game.

AllHipHop: Any final Thoughts or words of advice?

Tina Farris: Tour managing is not for the faint of heart. You must be a logistical wizard not only for your clients but for your personal goals as a woman in this one life. Plan accordingly.

‘The Breakfast Club’ Responds To “Fake News” Suggesting They’re Part Of A “Reverse Racism” Lawsuit

(AllHipHop News) The hosts of The Breakfast Club are pushing back against the idea the radio show is somehow involved in a lawsuit against Revolt.

The New York Daily News posted an article claiming five white men are suing Revolt TV for “reverse racism,” and The Breakfast Club was mentioned in the story.

“White people are not welcome behind the scenes of a televised broadcast of Power 105.1’s ‘The Breakfast Club,’ a new lawsuit charges,” wrote Stephen Rex Brown in the opening sentence of the piece.

During the Wednesday morning show, Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God covered the Daily News article.

“Salute to the New York Post, because they absolutely accurately reported this story. They didn’t use The Breakfast Club and Power 105.1 as clickbait,” stated Charlamagne. “We’re not even in the lawsuit. We’re not even named as defendants in the lawsuit.”

Envy said, “I’m not going to lie. When I got that post, I started laughing. I called Charlamagne and we were laughing like crazy.”

“America really has changed. I was crying laughing. I was like, ‘What? White people suing for discrimination? Really?'” added Charlamagne.

The outspoken media figure also addressed the situation in a series of Instagram posts where he called the Daily News article “fake news” and questioned about a defamation lawsuit.

The Daily News article did include a sentence near the end of the story pointing out the lawsuit does not name Power 105.1 or The Breakfast Club as defendants.

However, social media posts from the publication about the lawsuit included mentions of The Breakfast Club and Power 105.

Revolt issued a statement that read, “These claims are without merit and have previously been dismissed by the (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). Revolt Media and TV, LLC has always been committed to diversity in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer.”

Revolt airs a simulcast of The Breakfast Club on the cable channel.

Man this is hilarious to me. For the record they suing Revolt TV and talking about Revolt TV not Power 105 or “The Breakfast Club” but this article is still hilarious!!!! Lawsuit says “The white people got fired for not knowing the culture” I mean most executives at all these companies don’t know the culture and need to be fired but that’s not the point. I been laughing for 10 minutes straight. Please make the distinction between Revolt TV, Power 105 and the Breakfast Club we are not the same. Thanks. #BlackPrivilege

Damn @nydailynews using us for clicks. If the lawsuit says executives at @revolttv then why does the headline say “Power 105’s The Breakfast Club” we are not named in this lawsuit. Diddy don’t pay us enough to have our names slandered like this but anyway WHITE PEOPLE SUING FOR NOT KNOWING THE CULTURE. Is so damn funny to me. ???????????? I really can’t stop laughing. #BlackPrivilege

Trend of Celebrity LA Homes Being Robbed Continues; Rappers Athletes Victimized

(AllHipHop News) There has been a disturbing number of celebrity homes being burglarized in 2017.

In February, Nicki Minaj’s house was broken into and completely trashed, while the bandits left with $200,000 worth of jewelry and other property.

There are no suspects although, the attack looked personal because picture frames were destroyed and even some of her clothes were cut up.

While the Soulja Boy vs Chris Brown was still going on in January, Soulja Boy’s L.A. house was robbed.

The thieves got away with $10,000 in cash and $12,000 in jewelry.

Soulja Boy’s house is wired with cameras so the suspect’s image was caught; however, no arrests have been made as the police are still investigating.

Kendall Jenner was the most recent victim after her home was burglarized for over $200,000 worth of goods last Wednesday (March 15).

Other people hit include:
Nick Young
Yasiel Puig
Kendall Jenner
Derek Fisher
Alanis Morissette
Cesar Millan
Floyd Mayweather (Floyd’s happened in Vegas, while he was in L.A.).

Wyclef P##### Over Mistaken Identity Robbery Arrest; Wants LAPD Investigated

(AllHipHop News) Wyclef has been “arrested” in a case of mistaken identity over a gas station robbery.

The Haiti born singer uploaded a video to his Twitter account in the early hours of Tuesday morning (March 21), blasting police in Los Angeles for a case of “mistaken identity.”

In the clip, the 47-year-old Fugees star is seen being cuffed as he tells the camera:

“In L.A. right now, coming from the studio with T-Baby. Ya’ll see the police have handcuffs on me. They just took off my Haitian bandana. That’s what’s going on right now with Wyclef in L.A. right now. The LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) have me in cuffs for absolutely nothing.”

And in the caption for the video, Wyclef added more details for his 4.3 million followers.

“LAPD another case of mistaken identity. Black man with red bandana robbed a gas station as I was in the studio working but im in handcuffs?” he fumed.

Officers are yet to respond to Wyclef’s video, or to confirm if the musician was arrested.

The video already fans of the “Ready or Not” hitmaker have flocked to his defense.

“Bandana’doesn’t really matter to them. Black is a good enough reason to stop you,” blasted one user, while another said: “this is disgraceful and the police need to treat black men like people.”

Paul Wall and Baby Bash Beat Their Drug Case

(AllHipHop News) Paul Wall and Baby Bash are off the hook in a high profile drug bust that landed them in jail last month.

The two rappers appeared in court today (March 21), over an incident which occurred in December 2016.

Paul Wall and Baby Bash were accused of hosting a drug fueled private party in Houston, with marijuana, “dabs” and other drug paraphernalia.

Undercover cops got word of the event, which began to spread on social media after Baby Bash promoted it through his Instagram page.

Both men were hit with felonies, and ordered to appear before the judge.

Today, a grand jury ruled that there was not enough evidence to convict the men and declined to prosecute either of them.

“I’m ready to hop on the next flight to Denver right now,” Paul Wall said after the grand jury’s ruling. “I go places where it’s legal, and it’s legal in 25 states – so I do smoke where it’s legal.”

Does Dej Loaf Have A Sex Tape & Baby On The Way?!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Oh my! Word on the street is that there is a baby on board for one of these female rappers.

Word on the curb is that Dej Loaf has a new boyfriend named Marlon, and the pair even allegedly have a sex tape that will be leaking in the next few days. Would you like to see Dej getting freaky on camera?

Wait there’s more! Dej is allegedly expecting a baby girl or boy with Marlon as well. According to Bossip, an insider close to the situation says that although Dej is only in her first trimester, she’s already starting to show on her small frame.

Supposedly [with the sex tape] Def didn’t know she was being recorded, and the flick shows all kinds of freaky activity. This is interesting. For some reason or another, folks still think that Dej actually likes girls, and that her relationship with Lil Durk was a publicity stunt.

Apparently her management team is shooting down both rumors, but we don’t know what to believe. Who knows. Is it just me, or has Dej been relatively quiet on the scene lately?!

White Guys Say “Breakfast Club” Show Is Racist and Sue Revolt TV

(AllHipHop News) Popular New York radio show, The Breakfast Club, is being accused of reverse racism.

A group of white males claim they were unfairly fired because they didn’t “understand the culture” and were replaced by “significantly younger and significantly less experienced or qualified African Americans.”

The plaintiffs named in the suit are Todd Baker, Douglas Goodstein, Richard Wilson, Michael Schiff, and Jason Preziosi.

The five men produced televised broadcasts for Howard Stern and were hired in 2014 to produce broadcasts for The Breakfast Club on Revolt TV, a music channel founded by rapper and businessman, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs.

The suit claims the white executives tolerated a number of abuses from African-American employees, who were allowed to conduct unprofessional behavior, such as arriving hungover or drunk.

They assert that even though they may not have “known the culture” they still fulfilled their duties and were unfairly terminated.

“The true reason that Revolt terminated the Goodstein production team was because they were Caucasian and much older than their replacements” the lawsuit reads.

Power 105.1 and The Breakfast Club are not named as defendants.

“These claims are without merit and have previously been dismissed by the (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). Revolt Media and TV, LLC has always been committed to diversity in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer,” Revolt said in a statement issued to The New York Daily News.

Young Thug’s Former Manager Says The Rapper Can Barely Keep His Lights On Because Of Someone Else

(AllHipHop Rumors) Who’s been stealing from Young Thug?

After word spread last week that Young Thug’s former manager Manny Halley was allegedly fired for stealing hundred of thousands of dollars from Young Thug, Halley is now pointing the blame at David Weise and Associates.

So basically the company and Halley are now pointing fingers at each other.

According to TMZ, Manny says he did request $200,000, but that money was only to be used for private jets for Thugger’s concerts. Manny claims that Weise and his company are actually the ones that handle all of Thug’s finances, and the only reason they are blaming him is to get out of the hot seat themselves.

Manny has also stated that Weise’s company has ruined his reputation by sending out an email claiming that he racked up thousands of unauthorized charges, when they are the ones who really screwed up.

Manny even claims that the company messed up Thugger’s fianances so bad before that the rapper had to go without paying his light bill and cell phone bill leading to them both getting cut off once.

Apparently Halley tried to get Weise’s company fired before, and they used the email to strike back. Oh my. Hopefully Thugger can get to the bottom of this.

Who Got Dropped From MMG?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Sooooo is Rick Ross and MMG over there cleaning house?!

As I was listening to Rozay’s new album ‘Rather You Than Me’, I noticed that the biggest bawse relaunched a new Maybach Music site, so I decided to check it out.

As I scrolled through the artists section, I couldn’t help but to notice that there were some names missing. Stalley, Tracy T, French , and Isa Muhammad’s names weren’t listed. This looks like they are no longer signed or affiliated.

Well I quickly remembered why Isa wasn’t listed. Isa Muhammad said he decided to quit music because music isn’t a part of Islam and not a part of his plan. His music career was over as quick as it began.

So that makes me wonder why Stalley and Tracy T aren’t listed. Hmmmmm.

As far as Stalley goes, everything was all good a few months ago as he posted the MMG pool party recap to his Instagram page.

Regardless of what’s “going on”, it still seems to be no bad blood between Ross and Stalley & Tracy T because both have still been promoting Rozay.

Hmmmmmmmm what are your thoughts?

Jason Derulo Talks Nicki Minaj Dissing Remy Ma On His Song “Swalla” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Jason Derulo’s single “Swalla” will always be connected to the Remy Ma vs Nicki Minaj feud.

The track features a Nicki verse that many listeners believed contain subliminal shots at Remy.

“I gave these b-tches two years, now your time’s up. Bless her heart, she throwing shots but every line sucks,” raps Minaj on the record.

Derulo stopped by The Breakfast Club this week, and the Pop star was asked about the perceived Remy disses on “Swalla.”

“I ain’t even put two-and-two together. I didn’t even think about, ‘Oh, she must be talking about somebody different,'” explained Derulo. “It was literally, she dropped the verse and [I] was like, ‘This is dope.'”

He continued, “We didn’t think nothing of it – me, my team, nobody.”

The Florida-bred entertainer was then asked how would he have reacted if Nicki had told him that her lines on the song were meant for Remy.

“It’s your verse. Whatever you want to do on your verse is your verse. That got nothing to do with me personally,” responded Derulo.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter did admit if Nicki’s verse had included Remy Ma’s name then it “might have been a little much to put” on his song.

Minaj was not the only person involved in the lyrical conflict to use another artist’s record to seemingly take shots at her opponent.

Remy’s bars on Phresher’s “What A Minute Remix” are widely believed to contain subliminal shots at Nicki, even though she denied it.

Even Phresher stated he thought Remy was talking about Minaj on the cut.

The Internet Wants To Protect Sade From Drake!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Now listen Drake! We won’t have you interfering with Sade and all of her magic.

The love and lust for the great Sade still runs deep. It seems apparent that Drake loves his cougars and the greats. We aren’t even mad at Drizzy though. We’ve all had a hit list of our dream men and women we’d like to get, he’s just at a better position to actually get them and get to them.

For years Sade has seemed to be a recluse, but I guess when you are one of the hottest artists of today, you can get her to come out. Well the internet hasn’t forgotten Drake’s reputation for loving women and allegedly leaving them. See Serena Williams, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and more. LOL.

With this said, the internet made it their duty to start a campaign to protect the goddess.

People already think Drake smashed J. Lo to get her to clear a sample, so you know we aren’t gonna let the 6 God do anything to Sade. LOL.

When people saw Sade trending on Twitter, they started to think something bad happened to her, or that she’d passed away. When they found out that she was Trending because of Drake, folks begin to go in. LOL. Check out some of the comments below.

Sway, Kool DJ Red Alert, Mister Cee & DJ Enuff Reflect On 1990’s Hip Hop Radio (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Four prominent Hip Hop radio personalities recently got together to reflect on the popular entertainment medium that launched their respective careers.

Shade 45 host Sway Calloway connected with Kool DJ Red Alert, Mister Cee, and DJ Enuff to discuss the power of Hip Hop radio in the 1990’s.

“Radio in the 90’s was the best because we got to play what we wanted. I don’t remember any rules,” said Enuff. “We had a shot to give people their voice. To me, that was the most amazing feeling in the world.”

The discussion was posted on VH1’s YouTube channel as part of a video series associated with the network’s 1990’s-themed Hip Hop drama The Breaks.

Each of the deejays also spoke about the changes that took place on the radio as rap music began to rise to the mainstream in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s.

They also acknowledged other disc jockeys – such as Mr. Magic, DJ Chuck Chillout, Afrika Bambaataa, Jazzy Jayand Funkmaster Flex – for playing important roles in the development of the culture on the airwaves.

Other episodes of VH1’s “Behind The Breaks” feature Maino & Uncle Murda, The Lox, and Hip Hop journalists.

Master P Adds More A-List Talent to His Biopic

(AllHipHop News) Rap veteran Master P is moving forward with plans to turn his life story into a film, two years after casting Queen Latifah in the project.

The No Limit Records founder previously announced in 2015 he had co-written the biopic, titled “King of the South,” which would detail his journey from a life of poverty in New Orleans, Louisiana to becoming a successful music mogul.

At the time, he tapped Chicago star Latifah to play his mother, and now Master P has revealed the movie will finally begin production this summer with The Wire’s Wendell Pierce also coming onboard the project.

“The timing is right for me to tell my story,” the hip-hop veteran shares in a statement. “It was tough back then especially being from the South, New Orleans was the murder capital at the time. I want others to learn from my mistakes and understand my work ethic of never giving up, no matter what it may look like. If you believe in yourself, keep your faith in God strong and stay close to your family, you can accomplish anything. Life is about choices, there’s no limit to your success if you work hard.”

Latifah’s production partner Shakim Compere adds, “We have so much respect for what P has done in the game, we want to help make sure that his story is told authentically with A-list talent.

“This is a great role for Queen Latifah. Master P had an amazing story and has broken a lot of barriers in hip-hop, paving the way for artists to make real money. King of the South is a real rags to riches story where moviegoers will leave the theaters inspired.”

Master P, real name Percy Miller, wants to include as many actors from his hometown in the film, and will be holding open auditions for New Orleans natives on April 4 in Gretna, Louisiana.

Director Of Snoop Dogg’s “Lavender” Video Hacked By Trump Supporters

(AllHipHop News) YouTuber Jesse Wellens directed Snoop Dogg’s video for “Lavender” remix which caused quite a stir.

In the music video, there is the theme of deportation and a person looking very similar to Donald Trump in a clown outfit. Snoop Dogg shoots the clown with a fake gun that shot out a sign that said “BANG!” cartoon style instead of a bullet.

This outraged Trump which upset Bow Wow and TI that set social media on fire on March 15.

On March 19, it was found that Jesse Wellens’ website redirected to Trump’s official site.

He claims he “click baited the President.” He tweeted that “art is made to start a discussion. I think the world had a needed talk.”

Last year, Wellen inked a deal with talent agency WME and is working on a number of other projects.

As of press time, JesseWellens.com was still being directed to Donald Trump’s official website.

Numerous politicians, including president Donald Trump himself, have condemned Snoop’s “Lavender” video.

One Fox News host named Kimberly Guilfoyle even called for the rapper to be killed.

Lil Wayne Addresses The “Bullsh-t” With Cash Money & Birdman During SXSW Show (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross may have been the person to once again ignite the public conversation around Lil Wayne’s business struggles with Cash Money Records, but Wayne shared his own thoughts about the controversy too.

During the Mass Appeal show at the SXSW Festival, the Young Money leader blasted CMR and its co-founder Birdman.

“I am going through some bullsh-t with my motherf-cking career and n-ggas is trying to steer my career without letting me do or say a damn thing,” Wayne told the crowd in Austin, Texas.

The “No Worries” rapper added, “If you think that I am stressing or letting this sh-t get to me, please remember, there’s too much good p-ssy and too many great mothef-cking loyal fans to worry about bullsh-t ass Birdman.”

Wayne has been seeking back compensation for years worth of musical work released via Cash Money.

On his new album Rather You Than Me, Ross called out Birdman’s business tactics in defense of Wayne as well as We The Best’s DJ Khaled.

Rozay also expressed his respect and love for Wayne via Instagram.

Wayne then tweeted his appreciation for Rozay’s message.
