Birdman Unphased By Rick Ross’ Attacks On “Idols Become Rivals”

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop mogul Bryan “Birdman” Williams has brushed off Rick Ross’ lyrical attack on his new song “Idols Become Rivals.”

On the track, which is featured on Ross’ new album, Rather You Than Me, the heavyweight star accuses Birdman of stealing royalties from artists on his Cash Money Records label, using Lil Wayne’s ongoing legal struggle as a prime example and suggesting Williams also treated DJ Khaled badly.

The song stirred controversy when it hit streaming services last week, but Birdman, aka Baby, is paying no attention to the drama.

“I don’t get caught up in hoe s##t, man. I just keep doing what I’m doing and keep pushing,” he told Billboard.com. “I don’t get caught up in that, I don’t play like that. I’m a man and I stand my ground and I do my thing. Numbers (sales figures and finances) don’t lie, and that’s all I give a f##k about: numbers, and puttin’ them up.”

Wayne has been locked in a court battle with Birdman since early 2015, when he filed a $51 million lawsuit against his longtime label boss, accusing his former mentor of withholding money he was allegedly owed for his highly-anticipated album, Tha Carter V.

Other Shakur artifacts like handwritten notes, unreleased music, a high school love letter, and a sexual poem have all been put up for auctioned over the years.

#AHHPowerfulWomen: The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee Shares the Value in Always Having a Backup Plan

#AHHPowefulWomen

(AllHipHop Features) Learning how hard Angela Yee has worked to navigate her way through the entertainment industry is nothing short of inspiring. As one of three on the dynamic nationally syndicated radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” she owns her expertise, integrity, and womanhood within the industry.

Angela spent the majority of her free time as a child writing short, fictional stories and reading every novel she could get her hands on.  When Angela graduated from Poly Prep in Brooklyn, she headed to Wesleyan University, where she graduated with a BA in English. After college, she utilized the relationships she secured through various internships at MTV, TVT Records, and Wu-Tang Management to obtain employment as an assistant to the CEO of Wu-Tang Corporation. Angela gained valuable experience dealing with multiple labels, artists, lawyers, accountants, and organizing special events.

Angela realized she had a knack for marketing, and spent the next five years working with internet startups, Nile Rodgers’ record distribution label, clothing brands, and launching Eminem’s clothing line Shady Limited. Yee decided her ideal position would be merging her love of marketing with her love of music, and that was when her industry relationships and stellar work reputation placed her in a position to get hired at Sirius Satellite Radio. While looking for job opportunities online, she saw the company was hiring in their marketing department and immediately called Paul Rosenberg, the head of Shady Records. She knew they were launching Shade 45 at Sirius and he would be able to at least get her an interview.

Never the type of person to wait for an opportunity, she soon pitched her own weekly nighttime show called “Lip Service,” which became an instant success. The show was the only female-hosted program on Shade 45 and allowed guests to engage in intimate conversations that were a refreshing contrast from the typical interviews with a promotional agenda. Soon enough, Angela took over the morning show as the main host and created “The Morning After with Angela Yee.”

Angela Yee

Angela continued to grind tirelessly at Shade 45, providing a platform for unsigned artists with her segment “Don’t Quit Your Day Job,” where artists like Drake, Machine Gun Kelly, and Big Krit were showcased before signing to major labels. She conducted standout interviews with Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Chris Rock, Birdman, 50 Cent, TI, and Wiz Khalifa among many others. Her talent and work ethic did not go unnoticed, and she was the only Sirius XM personality mentioned in the 2009 “The Source” Power 30 issue. Several radio stations in different markets began contacting Angela Yee and she soon decided to take a risk and leave her home of six years at Shade 45 for the station that was the underdog in radio’s number one market: New York City’s Power 105.1.

The Breakfast Club was formed in December 2010 with DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne and for the past three years the show has been the number one radio program in “The Source” Power 30 issue, and in 2014 the New York State Broadcasters Association awarded “The Breakfast Club” with the 2014 OUTSTANDING ON-AIR BROADCAST PERSONALITY OR TEAM award. Currently, the show is syndicated in over 30 markets weekday mornings and over 70 markets on the weekend where listeners can hear Angela Yee’s Rumor Report, her advice segment “Ask Yee,” and current events with “Front Page News.”

Angela also continues to expand her brand with her popular podcast “Angela Yee’s Lip Service” and freelance writing with Vibe Magazine, YRB Magazine, and her own website www.teamyee.tv. She has received a WEEN Mission Award, the “Shirley Chisholm Woman of Distinction” Award and donates her time and efforts to speaking at schools and on educational panels, working with Coats for Kids, Dress for Success, Makeover Your MS, Children Making Strides Against Pediatric Cancer, The Bowery Mission, and various other charitable organizations.

From her humble beginnings booking studio time and running payroll for Wu-Tang Management, to working with Eminem at Shady Limited, she’s packed her resume’ with targeted experiences that made her extremely marketable, with hosting successful radio shows, managing clients such as GZA and Jay Electronica and cultivating a voice in the music and Hip-Hop industry.

Angela took some time to connect with AllHipHop to discuss her journey, the importance of having a backup plan and the life of being a woman in radio and in the hip-hop and entertainment world:

AllHipHop: How would you describe being a woman in the hip-hop industry?
Angela Yee: I mean, as a woman, when people walk the room, they will give everyone a pound but not say anything to you. They won’t automatically think you’re an executive in the first impression. That’s typically how it is but you maintain yourself, build great relationships and hustle.

AllHipHop: In situations like that, what keeps you from giving up?
Angela Yee: I’ve never felt like giving up and have always had a strong foundation. But what kept me mostly from giving up was that I knew I always had a backup plan. With that, you can do anything and to have that security was key.

AllHipHop: That’s real, because not only do you work in radio, you’ve done marketing, writing, distribution right?
Angela Yee: Yes, and you get put in different situations that can be opportunities and if you get your foot in the door, you got to bust the door wide open.

AllHipHop: How do you find balance in work, personal life, health, etc.?
Angela Yee: You have to find a way to find that balance. I always put work before everything, but I had to learn to find that time to be balanced.

AllHipHop: As women, we sometimes deal with certain scrutiny if we have children, or are married or serious relationships, but still living within the industry. How can we combat that stigma?
Angela Yee: I think the biggest thing to remember especially being a woman in the industry is that you have to be with someone that understands what you do, and RESPECTS what you do. Both parties need to feel comfortable and not worrying about what others think about it. If you’re happy, be happy.

AllHipHop: Women that have inspired you on your journey?
Angela Yee: Well definitely Angie Martinez. When I first met her I was so excited. Now she works with me. I think she realizes how important she is to me. She is very humble which is refreshing in this industry because people get so jaded sometimes. Next would be my best friend Santi Gold, she lived across the hall from me in college. She was always the one to decide on something and then do it and I would be the one to just sit and think about it. She definitely inspires me. And last I would say Yara Shahidi as another woman because she’s, young and very aware of what’s going on in the world around her. She’s brave enough to express herself in ways that may cause people to attack her at times but she’s still outspoken.

AllHipHop: Where do you find inspiration?
Angela Yee: I find inspiration every day. I think every day you should be inspired by something.

AllHipHop: Any last thoughts you have to share with the wonderful women reading?
Angela Yee: Yes, I just want to share that we really need to be able to help each other and understand we are not each other’s competition. Sometimes it may not even be us, but other people put us against each other and we get caught up in negative things. It’s a nice feeling not to be negative, focus on the positive and inspire each other. Understand that sometimes you have to say “NO.” Be aware of yourself, and prioritize. You got to sleep!

Freeway Talks Signing To Jay Z’s Roc Nation & His New Roth Childs Company

(AllHipHop News) Freeway had the internet buzzing when he uploaded an Instagram photo of himself with Jay Z at the Roc Nation offices.

The question of whether the Philadelphia representative signed back with Hov began circulating.

It turns out the Roc-A-Fella Records affiliates have in fact reunited for a new deal.

Billboard spoke with Freeway, and he discussed his new partnership with Roc Nation.

“I mean, of course it’s something that I always wanted to do,” said Freeway when asked if he thought he and Jay would ever work together again. “I just was doing my own thing and trying to work as hard as I can on my own. If the opportunity presented itself for me to make it happen, I always knew that I would try.”

According to Free, they connected at Jay’s Tidal B-Sides concert in 2015, and then a conversation about inking a deal with Jay’s label began backstage at a recent Beyoncé concert.

The “What We Do” spitter was involved in an independent deal at the time of the B-Sides show, so he had to wait before he could officially join Roc Nation.

“When that was over, I had to wait three months before I could do anything. It was all perfect timing. By the grace of God, it happened one after the other. As soon as my thing was up, I ran into Jay, told him I was ready and he was like, ‘Let’s get it done!'” recalled Freeway.

The Billboard interview also included Freeway discussing his health, the upcoming Kidney Walk in Baltimore, campaigning for Hillary Clinton, and taking the independent artist route.

“The situation I’ve got at Roc Nation is we’ve got a joint venture with my company, New Roth Childs,” Freeway stated. “Me and my man Scholito started this company together like two, two-and-a-half years ago. We’ve just been doing our thing on the independent tip.”

First Week Sales Predictions For Rick Ross ‘Rather You Than Me’ Are In

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross dropped his ninth studio album last Friday, and industry insiders began crunching the first-week sales numbers for Rather You Than Me.

According to HitsDailyDouble, Rozay’s new project is expected to move between 85,000 – 95,000 equivalent album units with 40,000 – 50,000 pure album sales.

Ross’ previous body of work, Black Market, debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 with 65,000 sales plus streaming units and 54,000 pure sales units.

Rather You Than Me is expected to land near the top of the album chart, but Drake’s latest LP More Life arrived a day after the Maybach Music Group leader’s new effort.

The sales predictions for More Life have not been announced as of press time.

Drake Admits To Drunk Texting Jennifer Lopez

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Drake has been drunk texting Jennifer Lopez since the stars reportedly called it quits on their brief romance.

The “Hotline Bling” hitmaker made the confession on “Free Smoke,” the opening track on his new project More Life, which hit streaming services on Saturday (March 18).

After giving his rumored ex a shout out, Drake admits his text messages are never actually received by Jennifer because she has since changed her cell phone number.

“I drunk text J.Lo/Old number, so it bounce back,” he spits on the tune.

Drake and Lopez were first romantically linked in December, when the Canadian artist attended two of the superstar’s residency gigs in Las Vegas and hosted an intimate party she attended.

He then reportedly surprised the 47-year-old beauty with a $100,000 diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co., which Jennifer showed off in an Instagram photo from her New Year’s Eve celebrations.

They have been coy about the nature of their relationship, which is said to have cooled off in early February, but Jennifer subsequently claimed they had simply been working together.

“We made a song together and we hung out,” she explained on the Grammy Awards red carpet last month. “We had a great time. He’s amazing; I have so much love for that boy.”

They had teased fans about the collaboration in an Instagram video of the pair dancing together in December, when a snippet of the track, titled “Get It Together,” could be heard in the background.

However, it appears the tune has since been reworked, as J.Lo’s vocals have been replaced on the More Life release by up-and-coming British singer Jorja Smith.

And that’s not the only Lopez connection to More Life – Drake, 30, also samples her debut single, “If You Had My Love,” on “Teenage Fever,” again with another female artist singing the chorus to the 1999 hit.

Jennifer has yet to comment on Drake’s multiple references in his new material.

She has since moved on and is now dating former New York Yankees baseball ace Alex Rodriguez.

Did Young Thug’s Manager Get Caught Stealing Money?!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Uh oh! Word on the curb is that Young Thug had to cut ties with his manager Manny Halley.

Apparently Manny has been ordered to cut all ties with Thugger after it was proven that he’d intentionally wrote a series of bad checks. He also allegedly forged the signature of an employee of Thug’s business manager, David Weise.

Oh my! Halley allegedly used Weise’s signature to sign a contract as well as attempted to run up thousands of dollars in charges on the employee’s personal credit card.

Weise, is pretty livid that Halley put David Weise and Associates, it’s employees, and Young Thug’s financial security in jeopardy.

Weise isn’t playing with Halley and has reportedly scheduled an appointment with the LAPD today to ensure that Halley be charged and rightfully punished. Click HERE to see Weise’s letter to Halley obtained by TheShadeRoom.

AHH Stray News: Nelly Honors Chuck Berry, PartyNextDoor’s New Music, Wiz & The Chainsmokers

Rapper Nelly has paid tribute to a fellow St. Louis Pioneer, Chuck Berry. TMZ.com’s cameras caught Nelly outside of Bootsy Bellows in Hollywood last night (March 18), where he gave a nice farewell message to Chuck Berry, who passed away at the age of 90.”We lost the first king of St. Louis,” Nelly said. “”[He was] one of the first Kings of Rock ‘n’ Roll, so today wasn’t good.”

While PartyNextDoor was thanking his fans on social media for becoming the winner of the “Songwriter of The Year” MTV Woodie Award, he told them to look out for new music being released between this Spring and Summer. “Thank you @mtv God is the greatest. This was a goal of mine coming off that world tour in ’15. New music for this spring/summer and thank you to my fans!!” Later, it was revealed by sources that PND could be releasing a new single as soon as Friday March, 24.

The Chainsmokers song “Closer” received the remix treatment by Wiz Khalifa. Wiz’s version to “Closer” was debuted at his live performance at the Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival in Florida. His version of “Closer” is a combination of heartbreak and love. The song “Closer” was among the most popular songs in 2016 and was in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 32 consecutive weeks. Wiz’s lyrics include: “Khalifa man I’m fresh off of the plane/Been smoking so long I got my own strain/Roll up a joint and take it to the brain/Say you getting high well now you speaking my language.”

Is Kim Kardashian Ready To Divorce Kanye West?

(AllHipHop Rumors) It seems like KimYe is having problems in their relationship every other day.

The fact that Kim Kardashian is a part of that crazy azz Kardashian family/ on that crazy azz show ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ paired with the fact that Kanye West has appeared to be bat sh-t crazy over the last few years, no one knows what to believe.

After Kimmy getting robbed in Paris, and Ye having a mental breakdown and canceling the rest of his Saint Pablo tour, anything is possible.

Rumor has it that the Wests’ marriage is once again on the rocks. According to Naughty Gossip, the Wests had a pretty explosive argument the other day, and Kim hasn’t been back home since.

Kim allegedly took the kids to stay with her mother, and Ye has allegedly been in a hotel since the argument. An insider claims that Kim is completely over Yeezy, and she still believes that he needs to seek some professional help.

The source also claims that Kim is starting to feel like Kanye is not the same man she married. Apparently their marriage has turned into a nightmare for Kim, but she doesn’t want to leave Kanye while he’s down.

Kim’s momager, Kris Jenner has allegedly told Kim not to make any crazy sudden decisions right now. It sounds like Jenner may be more concerned with ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ than her daughter’s marriage. Do you think Ye has really ran Kim K. crazy yet?

Chuck Berry Dead At Age 90

(AllHipHop News) Rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Chuck Berry has died at the age of 90.

Police in St. Charles County, Missouri responded to a medical emergency at his home on Saturday (March 18), where the star was found unresponsive.

Officers tried to revive him, but he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Born Charles Edward Anderson Berry in St. Louis, Missouri, the rocker got an early start in music when he made his first public performance as a teenager at the local Sumner High School.

His career plans stalled for three years when he was arrested and jailed for armed robbery after attempting to commandeer a car at gunpoint with a broken pistol.

He was released on his 21st birthday in 1947.

He began taking on gigs as a guitarist for various bands in his hometown to substitute his income from holding down other menial jobs.

However, he started to make a name for himself performing alongside the Johnnie Johnson Trio, and they would later become long-time collaborators.

A chance meeting with blues star Muddy Waters in Chicago, Illinois in 1955 led to his first record deal, after the late singer suggested he get in touch with Leonard Chess of Chess Records.

He signed to the label that year and his first release on contract, a song called “Maybellene” – a cover of Bob Willis’ “Ida Red,” shot to the top of the Billboard Rhythm and Blues chart, and reached number five on the Hot 100 countdown.

In 1956, Berry joined forces with other rising stars like the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly to tour the U.S.

His country music-inspired blues tunes gained him hit after hit, and he scored more than a dozen top songs – such as “Johnny B. Goode,” “Rock and Roll Music,” and Sweet Little “Sixteen” – between 1957 and 1959.

A savvy businessman, Berry opened his own St. Louis nightclub, called Berry’s Club Bandstand, in 1959 – but the venture landed him in trouble months after opening following the appointment of an underage girl he met in Mexico and had hired to work in the bar.

The 14-year-old was subsequently fired from her job and was arrested on charges of prostitution.

Berry found himself caught up in the scandal when he was arrested under the Mann Act – a law that banned the interstate transport of females in a bid to prevent prostitution, human trafficking and immorality.

Berry went on trial and was sentenced to five years behind bars after being convicted.

He was also fined.

He managed to resurrect his career after he walked free in 1963 with songs like “You Never Can Tell,” “Nadine,” “No Particular Place To Go” and his only U.S. number one hit, “My Ding-a-Ling.”

Berry spent the majority of his time in the 1970s on the road, but he was jailed once more, for four months, in 1979 after pleading guilty to tax evasion.

As part of his sentence, he was ordered to complete 1,000 hours of community work, playing a number of benefit concerts.

He also got the opportunity to perform at the White House on 1 June, 1979 at the request of then-U.S. president Jimmy Carter, before releasing what he claimed would be his final studio album, title Rockit, that same year.

Berry continued to perform for fans, playing shows across the world, and as he celebrated his 90th birthday in October of 2016, he announced plans to release of his first album in 38 years.

In a statement, he revealed his new record, titled Chuck, would contain a number of original songs written, recorded and produced by him, and would be released by Dualtone Records in 2017, although a specific date was never announced.

In addition to his live work, Berry also featured in 1956 film “Rock Rock Rock” singing “You Can’t Catch Me,” and had a small speaking part as himself in 1959’s “Go, Johnny, Go!,” in which he can also be seen performing songs like “Memphis, Tennessee” and “Little Queenie.”

He was portrayed on screen by rapper/actor Mos Def in biopic “Cadillac Records,” which was released in the U.S. in December 2008.

Berry, whose songs were covered by the likes of the Rolling Stones and The Beatles, is survived by his wife Themetta ‘Toddy’ Suggs, who he wed in 1948.

When he didn’t feel the crowd was responding, he commented on the energy and a “fan” responded back.

The interaction got real tense, real fast. Yachty later apologized.

Drake Finally Releases “More Life”…Was It Worth The Wait?

(AllHipHop News) Drake fulfilled a promise to fans over the weekend by finally delivering his highly anticipated “More Life” project.

The new “More Life” playlist dropped today (March 18) via on Spotify Amazon and Drake’s OVO Radio show on Apple’s Beat1 streaming radio services.

The Toronto rapper’s playlist features a number of cameo features from artists like Young Thug, Kanye West, Travis Scott and 2 Chainz, in addition to some new music by Drake, in addition to the previously released singles “Fake Love” and “Sneakin’.”

According to Drake, he designed the 21-track”playlist” concept in order to free himself from the constraints of the traditional mixtape format.

“I’m off, like, mixtapes, I want to do a playlist. I want to give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life, so this [is] ‘More Life: The Playlist,’” the rapper explained last year.

“All original music from me. You might hear some tunes from the family (frequent collaborators) on there, but I’m just really excited,” Drake said. “I just want to get right back to it. Be with the people again.”

The new music from Drake is being released just as the rapper closes in on the final dates on the European leg of his “Boy Meets World” tour next week.

T.I. Checks A Fan Over Violating His Personal Space.

(AllHipHop Rumors) Sometimes fans take it TOO FAR!

Y’all keep forgetting some of the rappers are real ninjas, especially T.I.

T.I had to let a male groupie fan know that he was getting way too close for comfort. Apparently the altercation started when T.I. agreed to take a selfie with the fan, but he decided to take about 6 selfies.

T.I. became annoyed when the fan took a million selfies, stood too close to Tip, and then began to lean on T.I.’s car. T.I. just wanted his personal space.

The fan got offended saying that Tip was trying to talk that gangsta sh-t, and Tip says he was just kicking some real n-gga sh-t because he felt that he doesn’t know the man, and he was standing way too close.

I’m not mad at T.I. though for wanting his personal space, and being uncomfortable especially since he’s a celebrity. You never know what some of these “fans'” motives are, or what they could do to someone.

I’m dying laughing at the fact that T.I. told the fan that now that he took the photo it’s time to say goodbye.

That’s not all, T.I. then had to let the fan know that he felt that was some gay sh-t for him to continue to violate his personal space.

T.I. certainly handled himself well considering that situations like this are definitely threats to one’s safety especially since T.I. wasn’t with his armed bodyguards this day. How would you have handled the situation?

“Yes, we are working on it. There is a strong possibility that it is happening,” he told us. “Fifty talks about it all the time.”

The “Power” move would make complete sense for 50 Cent.

As an actor, Fif has starred in movies like “Southpaw,” “Home of the Brave” and the upcoming flick “Den of Thieves” opposite Gerard Butler.

As a producer, his Cheetah Vision Films has raised hundreds of millions of dollars to finance movies like “All Things Fall Apart” with Ray Liotta and Mario Van Peebles, as well as “The Frozen Ground” with Nicolas Cage, Vanessa Hudgens, and others.

There’s no release date for the big screen version of “Power.”

Ohio Rappers Digmata And Ray Jr. Link For “Bottles” Single

Ohio rapper Digmata teams up with Def Jam signee Ray Jr. as the two exchange verses on a Protege Beats produced track. The song will find a home on DIgmata’s project Digmata The Life set for release this year.

“My team helped me get where I’m going – from the late nights in the studio, to the hard times on the road when tragedy happens.  They are always there for me and they push me to higher levels. Its ONE TEAM ONE DREAM and we really live by that so shout out to OTOD and make sure u follow me on all social medias channels. To my fans:  you are my family and honestly without y’all I can’t be here .. thats why I do this,” Digmata said in a statement to the media.

Wedged in between Cleveland and Columbus, up and coming rapper Digmata had to do the most in order to get out of his environment in Central Ohio. Raised in a small Ohio city with limited opportunities for the youth, Digmata had to fight against the grain with hard work and discipline to achieve his goals in music.

Avoiding a life of crime on a dead end path selling 8 balls and opting not to pursue the league dribbling a basketball, Digmata found his path in the studio. Shorty after his late brother David Bronson aka King Dave discovered he could keep his brother off the streets with music, the two dedicated their time to the craft of making music. To this day Digmata finds inspiration in the loss of his brother who tragically passed away before he could see his brother’s growth as an emcee.

“I got my start from my brother, David Bronson aka King Dave it was his way of keeping me out the streets . I started behind the scenes and I was actually a engineer at first, but when my brother lost his life I really started working at becoming an artist to keep his legacy alive and to make the dream become a reality,” Digmata explained.

Also influenced by music that reflects real life, Digmata hopes to create music that will give fans chills when they understand his life and the difficult past that he endured.

“This is my life, this project is about me and my story,” Digmata explained about his music. “From the intro to the outro –  this is me.  I I want to introduce my fans and anyone listening to Digmata and be able to relate. I want them to be like, ‘I know that dude.'”

While he preps for his studio album Digmata The Life,  this Ohio emcee is working on tours and shows in the future including a Midwest Tour with Big Heff of the Nerve Djs.
