The Black Eyed Peas Are Releasing A Graphic Novel

(AllHipHop News) Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am has teamed up with bosses at Marvel Comics to release a graphic novel.

The rapper has written the futuristic “Masters of the Sun – The Zombie Chronicles,” which centers on hip hop-loving main character, Zulu-X, who has to fight against an alien attack in Los Angeles, while humans are turning into zombies.

Movie and TV producer Benjamin Jackendoff and artist Damion Scott have provided the artwork for the novel, which is due to hit bookshelves in July.

“The Black Eyed Peas and I have begun a new journey,” will.i.am told Billboard. “We’ve been working on this original story for years and partnering with Marvel to bring this book to life is more than a dream come true.”

“Working with Will and Ben was a blast. From start to finish, they were both very involved in making the best comic possible,” Scott adds. “It was awesome getting a chance to work on a book about hip-hop music.”

Questlove Gets Top Cookery Writing Award

(AllHipHop News) The Roots musician Questlove has been nominated for a top American cookery writing award.

The 46-year-old teamed with author Ben Greenman to release a food book, titled something to food about: Exploring Creativity with Innovative Chefs, last year.

Now the tome, which features Questlove’s conversations with 10 innovative chefs from around the world, has been nominated in the Nonfiction category at the 2017 James Beard Awards.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Questlove wrote that his nomination made him want to do a “happy dance” and added, “Wow man, who knew being a fly on the wall watching others work and gathering life notes would lead to this?”

Presented by the James Beard Foundation, a charity founded in 1986 to celebrate America’s culinary heritage, the prestigious prizes are presented annually to food writers, broadcasters, chefs and restaurateurs.

When announcing the release of the book, the multi-instrumentalist explained how he was inspired to co-write the book after dining at famous sushi chef Jiro Ono’s restaurant in Tokyo, Japan.

“This was a journey (a fun tasty one at that) into the lives of Culinary Creatives,” Questlove wrote. “When I took my journey to Japan to eat #Jiro’s sushi I was shocked that he referenced himself as an Artist. Not a chef.”

Writers will be honored during a ceremony taking place in New York City on April 25, while restaurateurs and chefs will be celebrated at an event in Chicago, Illinois on May 1.

Locals Want Clampdown On CIAA Events 100 Rounds Squeezed Off At Rapper Young Dolph

(AllHipHop News) A shootout on a downtown street in Charlotte, North Carolina has left residents terrorized and shellshocked.

Someone squeezed off over 100 rounds on a downtown street in the city, during the annual CIAA basketball weekend last month.

Rapper Young Dolph has verified he was the target of the shooting, which happened on February 25, in broad daylight.

Cops of been clear that the gunfire was not connected to any CIAA related event, but the local citizens don’t care either way.

Homeowners are calling for local authorities to clamp down on the events surrounding CIAA weekend, thanks to the most recent outbreak of violence.

According to The Charlotte Observer, The First Ward Neighborhood Association recently held a gathering seeking to change how permits are given for events during the weekend.

Among the proposals were restrictions to events near high-density areas, requiring the use of off-duty Charlotte police officers and notifying authorities and residents of any events taking place.

“We are focusing on private parties,” Committee chair Julie Eiselt said. “The CIAA doesn’t know who (the people throwing the parties) are. We need to see what the permitting process is. Are they using the permit in the way they said they would intend to? How can we make this safer?”

Police in Charlotte say they are close to making an arrest in the most recent shooting, which many have speculated jumped off during a feud between Young Dolph and Yo Gotti.

Last year Young Dolph was also reportedly targeted during CIAA weekend, while residence to say acts of violence have been occurring for years.

Charlotte police said have affirmed they have retrieved cell phones and a laptop that were left at the crash scene, where several SUV’s and a van were left behind.

The cops are analyzing the electronics for forensic evidence and say arrests are imminent in the shooting.

Stormyz Calls Out NME For Making Him “Depression Poster Boy”

(AllHipHop News) Grime superstar Stormzy has lashed out at NME for using his personal battle with depression to “shift copies” of the magazine.

Editors at the music publication used a picture of Stormzy, real name Michael Omari, on the front cover of its latest issue, with the headline “Depression: It’s time to talk”.

While Stormzy claims he had been approached to appear in the magazine in the past, he told fans on Twitter he’d declined, but has now found himself front and center on the cover.

“You lot know I don’t rant or open my mouth up for no reason but serious @NME magazine are the biggest bunch of sly, foul PAIGONS (liars),” he tweeted.

“They’ve used me on their cover without my permission. Depression is a very very sensitive issue and it’s something I’ve spoken about it is a subject that isn’t the easiest thing to speak about. And I’ve been careful in how I’ve dealt with it in the media

“However using my face as a poster boy for it to sell your magazine is so foul and below the belt I will never respect you lot.”

During his rant 23-year-old Stormzy argued that it’s solely up to him to put his name to a campaign, no matter how good the cause is.

When fans pointed out the article may help others going through similar situations Stormzy, who documented his battle with depression on acclaimed debut studio album Gang Signs & Prayer, was quick to hit back.

“I KNOW it will help others but just imagine a personal battle of yours being published on the front of a magazine without your permission,” he fumed. “And for those saying @NME done this with no bad intent, they know exactly what they’re doing. They couldn’t get me on the cover so done this.”

He also tweeted a link to the journalist responsible for the article, telling him: “And STOP acting like you lot done this to “break the stigma” or help anyone you done this to shift copies.”

NME’s editor Mike Williams has now responded, replying directly to Stormzy’s tweets to apologize, but he defended the magazine’s decision to go ahead with the cover.

“I’m sorry that you didn’t know your image would be our cover. Our intentions were only positive…

“We were inspired by your words and wanted to use them as a springboard to talk about depression and how it shouldn’t be taboo.”

He added his team had spoken with charities CALM and YoungMinds to make sure the advice they were giving was accurate, and said Stormzy was chosen to front the issue as they felt he would “resonate most” with readers.

The NME Twitter account still has a link up to the original story.

The School That Taught Rapper Tupac How To Act Needs Money Too

(AllHipHop News) The Baltimore Public School system is in danger of losing thousands of teachers, thanks to a budget deficit.

One of the schools in the system that will be hard hit is rather famous since it is the school that taught Tupac Shakur how to hone his artistic ability as a rapper and actor.

The Baltimore School for the Arts, which also includes actress Jada Pinkett-Smith as an alum, is seeking fiscal help in order to fill a hole in a budget that hasn’t even been passed yet.

The Baltimore School for the Arts has over 400 students enrolled and is one of the many schools awaiting the passage of a $180 million budget bill, which is winding its way through Congress.

“Watching people play politics with the education and lives of children is infuriating, and reduced funding would be devastating for the city,” said actor and alumni Josh Charles, who is leading a social media campaign to raise up awareness.

For now, The Baltimore School for the Arts stands to lose about $1.4 million this year alone.

A social media hashtag #fixthegap has been launched, in hopes of getting Governor Larry Hogan’s attention to help speed the bill through.

“Pharma D#####” Martin Shkreli Gets His Own Play Based On Wu-Tang Album

(AllHipHop News) The life and times of “The Most Hated Man in America” is coming to an off-Broadway play.

According to reports, the life of Martin Shkreli is being turned into a play titled “Pharma Bro: An American Douchical.”

The 85-minute play, which is billed as a spoof of Shrkeli’s entire life, also takes its title from his other nickname – “Pharma D#####.”

According to the New York Post, the main plot of the off-Broadway parody will center around Skreli’ purchase of a rare Wu-Tang Clan album.

Martin Shkreli is a 33-year-old former pharmaceutical executive who rose to national fame, when he rose the price when he raised the price of an HIV drug Daraprim overnight and refused to back down, sparking congressional hearings.

But Skreli is also implicated in securities fraud, for allegedly embezzling millions of dollars in a Ponzi scheme.

Stil, Martin Shkreli has been spending his dough on a variety of hip-hop related projects.

In November of 2015, he paid over $2 million for the only copy of the precious Wu-Tang Clan Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, and the “Pharma Bro” plot will center around Shkreli’s dramatic acquisition of the album.
“Pharma Bro: An American Douchical” will debut on June 26.

MSNBC’s Ari Melber Uses 50 Cent Lyrics To Criticize Donald Trump Not Telling The Truth (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Donald Trump has found himself under pressure to prove his claims that former president Barack Obama wiretapped his phones at Trump Tower during the 2016 election.

“How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” tweeted the President on March 4.

However, both Republican and Democratic lawmakers have stated publicly there is no evidence that Obama was ever involved in wiretapping Trump, which would be a crime.

The bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee has even concluded there is no evidence Trump Tower was the subject of wiretapping or any type of surveillance.

MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber was speaking about Trump’s seemingly false accusations against Obama, and he used lyrics from Hip Hop artist 50 Cent to make his point.

“I hate a liar more than I hate a thief. A thief is after my salary. A liar is after my reality,” said Melber reciting lines from 50’s “I’m A Hustler.”

The lawyer/author continued, “This is a debate over reality, what is true, what was wiretapped, what do we as a country want to do about the information we have from the government. It is supremely significant, I think, to see this bipartisan, apolitical move from the leaders of the Intelligence Committee, who have the goods and the intel, effectively saying Donald Trump is after your reality, he’s wrong, and we have a duty to rebut him.”

This is not the first time Melber has referred to 50 Cent.

He quoted the Queens rapper in a tweet posted in February as well.

Rick Ross Takes Direct Shots At Birdman On “Idols Become Rivals”

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross released his new album Rather You Than Me today, and one song on the project has the Internet talking.

On “Idols Become Rivals,” Ross addresses his issues with Cash Money Records head Birdman.

Rozay raps on the track:

Catholic record labels, n-ggas getting raped, boy. Birdman’s a priest, moans in his synagogue. Publishing a sin, repent, forgive me, Lord. Shots fired, home invasion out on Palm Isle. Red beam detonators, who the bomb now?

Before Rather You Than Me dropped, Ross showed love to Lil Wayne. The Cash Money signed artist has been in a legal battle with Birdman over royalties and other unpaid money.

Ross wrote on IG:

The Level of respect and Love that I have for WAYNE makes it hard to sit back and not speak on the situation. The streets need you.Being a Boss means having the courage to say the things everybody thinking but scared to say.I can’t wait for you to hear it. Midnight.

Wayne returned the love on Twitter, writing:

Fox Host Calls Bow Wow A “B##ch” And Wants Him Arrested Over Tweet Attacking Melania Trump

(AllHipHop News) A FOX News host has called rapper Bow Wow a “sad little b##ch” over his controversial tweet about first lady Melania Trump.

For some reason, Bow Wow inserted himself into a feud between President Donald Trump and rapper Snoop Dogg.

The whole affair started after Snoop dropped the video for his song “Lavender,” in which he shoots a fake Donald Trump dressed as a clown in the head.

The video has drawn condemnation from President Trump himself, as well as his Republican constituents like Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Ted Cruz.

And then Bow Wow got in the mix, when he tweeted:

“Ayo @realDonaldTrump shut your punk ass up talking s##t about my uncle @SnoopDogg before we pimp your wife and make her work for us.”Fox News hosts Greg Gutfeld took issue with Bow Wow and his comments on his show on “The Five” on Fox.

According to Gutfeld, Bow Wow’s threats are actually a criminal act since, since he threatened the First Lady with sexual enslavement.

“It’s not like he threatened Michelle Obama. Since Trump once said sexist stuff, Melania is open game. That’s the argument from some feminists who are looking for any excuse to smear the woman,” Greg Gutfeld snapped.

“Oh well, the washed up rapper has since deleted that tweet. I guess that makes Bow Wow a big ‘meow meow.’”

Trey Songz Heading To Trial For Giving A Cop A Concussion

(AllHipHop News) R&B star Trey Songz’ assault case is heading to trial later this year.

The “Bottoms Up” hitmaker, real name Tremaine Neverson, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer following an onstage meltdown in Detroit, Michigan last year.

Neverson was performing at the city’s Joe Louis Arena in December when sound engineers reportedly threatened to cut off his microphone when he ran past his 11.30pm curfew.

According to reports, the 32-year-old told the crowd he would “go crazy” if he was cut off. He then encouraged the audience to join him in taunting concert bosses by chanting, “Go ahead and cut me off!”

The singer was caught on camera jumping off the stage into the crowd as security staff tried to stop him and he appeared to throw items at police officials.

He also hurled microphones and speakers off the stage, with one object striking a cop on the head.

Neverson was taken into custody for malicious destruction of property and resisting arrest, and was subsequently charged with aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer causing injury.

A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office told CNN Songz also “struck an officer with his fist causing a concussion.”

He spent the night behind bars and was arraigned in December, when his bail was set at $25,000 .

On Thursday (March 16), the singer appeared via video for a hearing in Wayne County Circuit Court. The judge set a September trial date and a court conference for May 31.

If convicted, the singer could face jail time and significant fines. However, Neverson’s lawyers say there is a “50/50 chance” a plea agreement can be reached, according to The Detroit News.

O.C. Says Nas Stood Him Up At The Studio One Time!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Why has it been a repetitive rumor that Nas used to stand up other rappers back in the day?!

Rapper O.C. sat down with Doggie Diamonds, where he revealed that he and Esco almost had a track together.

According to O.C., Nas was supposed to be on his album, but he never showed up to the studio. O.C. acknowledged that Nas had the whole city, and the whole world at his attention at that time, and it would’ve made a big impact for Nas to be featured on the project.

He felt that Nas was the Hip Hop savior at that time, but he left him hanging. Had Nas showed up, O.C. believes that the record would’ve banged out as well as the album that the collab was supposed to be on.

O.C. also stated that Nas was notorious for standing cats up back then though, and if it weren’t for MC Serch, there would be no Nas, despite the fact that Serch doesn’t get the credit for Nas that he deserves.

It’s cool to see that O.C. isn’t making a big deal out of it, but it also makes you wonder what other potential collaborations in Hip Hop almost happened. What are your thoughts?

“Empire” Star Jussie Smollett Aint Feeling The Trump Administration

(AllHipHop News) “Empire” star Jussie Smollett has released a new single to oppose Donald Trump and the current administration.

Jesse’s latest song “F.U.W” is a statement against bigotry, racism, and xenophobia, which the actor says is precisely what the Trump administration stands for.

Jesse says “F.U.W.” is not a single, will not be any albums, and is not meant to promote the hit series “Empire,” where he stars as Jamal Lyon.

“This is not a single. It’s not a song to promote the series. It’s an artistic expression. My view of this sick cycle, an era in which we must fight our way out of before it’s too late,” Jussie Smollett said of the single.

“This view of unity is something they may never understand. That is why it is up to us. Train your daughters and sons to be soldiers of love, despite and in spite of this F#$* Up World,” he said.

Kim Mathers Heading Into Court Over “Diluted” Drug Tests

(AllHipHop News) Kim Mathers is being accused of violating her probation, originating from a wild incident in 2015.

Kim’s probation officers are alleging that her drug tests have come back diluted a half a dozen times.

Kim was sentenced to probation in November 2016, for a disturbance which happened a year prior.

She admitted to downing a fifth of Malibu, doing drugs and intentionally crashing her Cadillac Escalade.

According to Eminem’s ex-wife, the drinking drugs and the accident that followed, were actually a suicide attempt.

Kim Mathers has denied she’s done anything underhanded with her drug tests and said she has been submitting hair follicle and blood samples.

Her probation officers are trying to get to the bottom of the diluted drug test, and have ordered her into court on Monday (March 20).

Reality-TV Star Claims Drake Gave Her A Pass To Use The N-Word

(AllHipHop Rumors) Look what Drake has found his name at the center of!!

The 6 God’s name is always getting drug into something, but who knew it would be over the use of the N-word by white people.

Reality-TV star @ArianeBellamar has been getting dragged to hell and back for her belief that her and other white people can use the word n##### and not be racist. It all started when she tweeted,

“Why is @VanJones68 always playing the house n#####?! He is smart. Able. Ready. Stand up! Don’t settle for this undefinable nonsense. #RESIST”

#OscarsSoWhite creator, @ReignOfApril informed her that while she may not agree with Van, she still doesn’t get to use this language.

Ariane maintained that she spends hours on hours volunteering for Black Lives Matters, so that proves that she’s not racist. April informed her that she could be married to a black man and still be racist, and she could raise awareness without the use of the N-word.

As if that wasn’t enough, the plot twist came when Ariane informed April that she uses the word n##### when she sings along to Chance The Rapper’s music and Drake’s music, as she claims that Drake is her close friend, and that he’s given her a pass to say it.

“@ReignOfApril Furthermore, Drake would whack me if I skipped it in front of him. He’s the musician. He’s not offended. That’s his choice,” tweeted Ariane.

April then suggested that Ariane is ignorant, racist, or both if she can’t understand why she shouldn’t use the word. What are your thoughts? Let me find out Drake’s black side if out here giving out passes to use the word.

As a college student, Butterfield Jones began working full-time for music legends Wu Tang Clan and for former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. After graduation, Valeisha was recruited by HBO Boxing and served as the Executive Assistant to the President of HBO Sports. She then returned to her North Carolina roots and served as the Field Director for Chief Justice Henry Frye of the N.C. Supreme Court. After a devastating loss on election night, Valeisha moved to New York City to further pursue her entertainment dreams and landed an unpaid internship with music mogul Russell Simmons.

Valeisha was a professional standout and turned her entertainment aspirations into action by becoming one of the youngest Executive Directors of a national organization at the time. Valeisha served as the Program Manager, Director of Sponsorship and Events, Vice President and eventually the National Executive Director of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network over a seven-year period.

During this time, she was introduced to then Senator Barack Obama and began serving as a volunteer for his 2008 Presidential campaign. As a dedicated mother and wife, Mrs. Valeisha Butterfield Jones shows her power of balance. She is not only a leader in entertainment but is a leader that supports, promotes and defends the progression of women in the entertainment world but also a powerful force for the black community. AllHipHop caught up with Mrs. Butterfield Jones to talk life, work, and fun as an executive in the entertainment industry.

AllHipHop: What’s the most enjoyable part of the job and your duties?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: The most fulfilling part of my job is knowing that the work I do is having a direct and measurable impact in our community. I’m only inspired when I’m living my life with a clear purpose, so to be able to enjoy what I do and pay my bills while making a difference is honestly a dream come true.

AllHipHop: What is the hardest part?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: Someone recently told me it takes about twenty years to become an overnight success and they were right! That’s probably the hardest part. It can take years and even decades for your work to be properly compensated or recognized, but as long as we’re staying focused on the quality of work and being consistent, I believe we’re on the right path. Also, there are racial and gender barriers that also make the work even harder, so having the strength and wherewithal to strategically fights those battles is key.

AllHipHop: Can you describe a moment of adversity personal and in your career?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: Every part of your career has valleys and peaks, so you have to always expect the unexpected. However, a big moment of adversity professionally for me was when I interned at 25 years old unpaid for nearly a year. I was so hungry to break into the entertainment industry that I knew the sacrifice would pay off and I was right, but it was very humbling to sleep on friends couches and eat Ramen Noodles for months and months with no end, pay off or guarantee in sight.

Also, when I turned 30 years old, I felt like a failure. I felt like a failure only because of false expectations that I placed on myself. My vision in my teens was that by 30 I would be married with a child, a huge house and a six-figure salary. All of those things eventually became true, but in God’s timing, not my own.

AllHipHop: What keeps you from giving up?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: The fear of letting my community down keeps me from giving up. I’ve taken on a lot of responsibility and I honestly feel like I was placed on this earth to make a difference. The pressure I place on myself at times can feel overwhelming, but I know my calling is bigger than myself or my own personal gain. It’s about getting future generations in a position to win and to become successful, so that motivates me to wake up in the morning and go get it.

AllHipHop: How did family play a role in your journey through this industry? (parents, siblings, significant other, children, etc.) Valeisha Butterfield Jones: I’m from a very traditional family and my upbringing was rooted in traditional occupations. The expectations were that we (our generation) would become lawyers, doctors or teachers, so I always wanted to chart my own career path, outside of my parents footsteps. I was also in a unique position to take all of the best practices shared by my parents in their careers and apply it to my work and growth in the industry. It’s been a gift to take all of their values and skills and apply it to my industry.

AllHipHop: Who inspired you to become a leader or boss?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: Sylvia Rhone, Debra Lee, Cathy Hughes and Shanti Das are all powerful women in the entertainment industry that were mentors in my head years before they ever knew my name. I would research them every day and study their moves to understand what it would take to stand out and to become a leader and boss in the entertainment industry. I’m now honored to know each of them personally and professionally and they continue to be my biggest inspiration.

AllHipHop: How do you balance work and personal life?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: I don’t! Honestly, I think you have to remain fluid and flexible in how you prioritize your life. My personal life and family always come first, period. That’s how I center my life, however, when it’s time to get into “go mode,” my family understands that I need a little time to really lock in to get a key project or program off the ground. You also have to have a strong team and know how to delegate. This was difficult for me to accept at first because I had the superwoman syndrome, but you’re only as good as the people you’re around, so be sure to invest in a strong team.

AllHipHop: What do you do for fun?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: Traveling and SoulCycle are my outlets. Whenever I’m on a beach with my husband and good friends, I’m in a great place.

AllHipHop: What are some things you’ve had to deal with that a man wouldn’t?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: As a woman in business, your intelligence is almost always tested and your intentions are often questioned. For years I felt the need to show my worth and over-deliver. While I still do those things inherently, I no longer feel the need to prove myself. Talk is cheap, so I measure my value now by results. Whenever you can back your work up with data, metrics and facts, your value cannot be questioned.

AllHipHop: Final words?

Valeisha Butterfield Jones: Just know that the road to success is best measured by your happiness. My wish is for every young, emerging boss to find true peace and happiness in your work, because you’re going to spend so much of your life fulfilling this purpose. Also, always trust your gut and bet on YOU, first.

Rick Ross Raps On “Apple Of My Eye”: I Told Meek I Wouldn’t Trust Nicki

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross’ new album Rather You Than Me includes the Miami native revealing a supposed private conversation he had with his MMG protégé Meek Mill.

The track “Apple Of My Eye” features Ross talking about the Dreamchaser leader’s relationship with Nicki Minaj.

“I told Meek I wouldn’t trust Nicki. Instead of beefing with your dog you just give him some distance,” rapped Ross.

The lyrics seem to be connected to Meek’s feud with Drake.

Rumors have suggested Nicki was somehow responsible for the conflict between the two “R.I.C.O.” collaborators.

Nicki’s rival, Remy Ma, included that speculation on her scathing diss record “ShETHER.”

“We all know it was a beef that you started,” spit Rem.

A week ago, Meek actually posted an Instagram picture with Ross which included the Philadelphia representative referencing his boss’ song “Apple Of My Eye.”

“Rozay been told me don’t trust you,” posted Meek.

Is Papoose About To Release A Diss Track For Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne & Drake?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Uh oh. Is Papoose loading his lyrical guns for Young Money?

Pap got people on IG thinking he’s about to take shots at Nicki Minaj, Drake, and/or Lil Wayne.

“Just wrote a new song tonight!!!! I think y’all gonna like it,” he said.

Of course, all this comes after Papoose’s wife Remy Ma “shethered” Nicki, and then the Barb brought on Drizzy and Weezy for her “No Frauds” response.

Remy might have given another hint that something big is coming up.

She wrote on her own IG, “Sometimes you just gotta sit back and watch like ?… ?? .”

We’ll have to wait and see what Pap is really cooking up.

One thing is clear, the Brooklyn emcee knows how to put words together. A battle over bars with him could be trouble.

Do you think Papoose should diss the YM crew?
