Vic Mensa Blasts Arming School Teachers, Calls For Ban On AR-15 Rifles

(AllHipHop News) The tragic shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida sparked national debates about gun reform. Many of the classmates and friends of the seventeen people killed during the massacre have called for new legislation such as funding mental health programs, outlawing bump stocks, improving the federal background check system, and raising the age to purchase rifles to 21.

Donald Trump proposed the controversial policy of arming teachers nationwide as a deterrent to possible school shooters. The idea was met with pushback, including from Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida and other Congressional Republicans.

Roc Nation emcee Vic Mensa is among the detractors of the President’s more guns in schools suggestion. He blasted the idea while speaking with TMZ.

“Giving guns to teachers is absolutely asinine,” declared Mensa. “It’s so backward. Anybody saying that has clearly never been to a public school. And it’s all just a diversion from big money lobbyists with the NRA.”

Additionally, the “We Could Be Free” rhymer called for a ban on AR-15 semi-automatic rifles. The legal firearm was a weapon of choice in the mass shootings that took place in Parkland, Aurora, Newtown, San Bernardino, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Sutherland Springs.

According to a recent Quinnipiac University poll, 66 percent of the country supports stricter gun laws, a rise of 19 points since two years ago. 97 percent of respondents want universal background checks and even 50 percent of firearm owners back more stringent gun laws.

“It’s not a complicated issue. These weapons are unnecessary. And I say that as a legal gun owner that also is fighting a gun case in California,” added Mensa.

Tink Talks Parting Ways With Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group

(AllHipHop News) Back in 2015, Tink was among the rising talents that was being talked about as the next big thing. The public patiently waited for the XXL Freshman Class member to drop her debut studio album, but the project never came.

Tink is now discussing no longer being associated with Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group label. She shared the news about parting ways with the Hip Hop legend in an article for Fader.

“There was stuff within the business side that messed up a lot of things,” said Tink. “Like, you can love a person to death, but if the business isn’t right, there’s always going to be friction. I just felt like nobody was paying attention to what I had going on outside of me and Tim. For me, that was the red flag. I stepped into the deal just hoping that I would be accepted for whatever I created. It wasn’t that type of situation.”

She also revealed the proposed ThinkTINK full length was completed. However, her musical mentor at the time kept the project on the shelf.

“The album was actually finished. There was an intro, I had interludes,” stated Tink. “It was [Timbaland’s] call to hold back on it, and I think, I want to say, for the benefit of the doubt, he did want to perfect it. But it was Tim’s call not to put it out.”

Cardi B Addresses Staying With Offset After Cheating Allegations

(AllHipHop News) Cardi B does not appear to be moved by people that are critical of her relationship with Offset. The Migos member faced cheating allegations last year, but the popular female rapper decided to stay with him.

In a cover story for Cosmopolitan, Cardi discussed the public reaction after she refused to split with her fiancé. The April 2018 issue will hit newsstands on March 6, but the publication released an excerpt of the article.

“It’s like everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.’ I don’t have low self-esteem … I know I look good. I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want—any basketball player, football player,” stated Cardi. “But I want to work out my sh-t with my man, and I don’t got to explain why. I’m not your property.”

She continued, “This is my life … I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision … It’s not right, what he f-cking did — but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.”

Kodak Black Pleads Not Guilty To Gun & Marijuana Charges

(AllHipHop News) On Tuesday afternoon, Dieuson “Kodak Black” Octave offered not guilty pleas to charges of possession of cannabis and possession of ammunition. This came after authorities dropped possession of a weapon or ammunition by a delinquent, grand theft of a firearm, and child neglect charges against Octave last week.

Kodak is being held without bail in Broward County. In January, the Sheriff’s Office raided the Florida rapper’s home after police became aware of a live Instagram broadcast where people were allegedly seen using marijuana and holding a handgun near an infant.

Bradford Cohen, Kodak’s lawyer, insists his client did not own a stolen gun that was found during the arrest at his residence. The “Roll In Peace” performer is set to return to court on May 3.

Sounwave Explains Selecting Artists For ‘Black Panther: The Album’

(AllHipHop News) The official soundtrack for the Black Panther film is packed with Hip Hop and R&B stars. Grammy-winner Kendrick Lamar oversaw the LP, and he helped recruit SZA, The Weeknd, Jay Rock, Future, Schoolboy Q, James Blake, Khalid, Swae Lee, Travis Scott, Vince Staples, and more for the Top Dawg Entertainment release.

TDE in-house hitmaker Mark “Sounwave” Spears produced several tracks for the project. The Digi+Phonics production team member talked about helping to select the acts that contributed to Black Panther: The Album.

“There were a variety of reasons why each artist was picked,” explained Sounwave to HDD. “From Kendrick, Top Dawg and I already being fans of the artist to finding the right person to match the emotion we were looking for, and also a lot of studying different kinds of music.”

He continued, “We were listening to a massive South African playlist for months, straight to where we became big fans of the sound and culture. And that was an important part, because we wanted to go inside their world to get an organic sound, sonically and emotionally.”

Several African artists were part of the Black Panther: The Album tracklist. Babes Wodumo, Sjava, Yugen Blakrok, and Saudi were introduced to many American listeners thanks to the collection of music from and inspired by the Marvel Studios global blockbuster.

“There’s going to be a wider expression in anything and everything we touch. That’s one of the main reasons you have to keep listening,” declared Sounwave when asked whether Kendrick Lamar attempted to express a wider thematic scope than what was presented in the movie.

Nipsey Hussle Hints At ‘America’s Most Wanted’ Joint Project With YG

(AllHipHop News) Even though Nipsey Hussle just released his well-received debut studio album Victory Lap, the Los Angeles representative could be linking with his fellow West Coaster YG for a project. Nip spoke about the potential collaborative set during an interview with Billboard.

“‘FDT’ was for the YG and Nip Hussle album, and you heard how crazy that sh-t came out? He put that on the album and was like, ‘F-ck that, I’m done.’ And I understand that,” said Nipsey. “Those sessions were sessions for the collab project. We went into [DJ] Mustard’s studio every day. Young Thug came through. A lot of songs that wound up on different projects happened in there.”

He added, “The idea is definitely not dead. Life happens. He got a solo career and I got a solo career. He got a kid and I got kids. That’s something the West wants, and we’re gonna do it, and we’re gonna call it America’s Most Wanted.”

Besides “FDT,” YG and Nipsey Hussle have appeared together on other songs such as “You Broke” and the Victory Lap cut “Last Time That I Check’dd.” Victory Lap opened at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Towkio Talks Dropping From Space & Signing With Rick Rubin’s Label

(AllHipHop News) Towkio gained a lot of attention for his WWW. project by playing the LP as he descended from space. The Chicago native went nearly 100,000 feet up before dropping back to Earth in a capsule. Zane Lowe of Beats 1 caught up with Towkio to talk about the impressive feat.

“That sh-t was the scariest sh-t of my life. Four and a half hours felt like the longest thing in my life. I experienced so many emotions,” recalled the SaveMoney member. “I was playing my music the whole way up. It was crazy because I was trying to make my music from this plane and it was the only thing kind of calming me down.”

He continued, “It was moments where it was good it was very smooth and then there were moments where there’s turbulence. The wind was blowing the capsule and then I definitely thought I was going to die. I remember calling my mom as soon as I came back down because I couldn’t even tell her.”

Towkio got a huge industry co-sign when he connected with legendary music producer/executive Rick Rubin. The American Recordings founder called into Lowe’s show to discuss working with the “2 Da Moon” performer.

“Me and Rick connected low key and the higher. The fact that he gave me this opportunity is just so wild to me,” said Towkio. “Bro hasn’t signed a rapper in over 20 years. But he gave me that opportunity and then I went to space. It was more so he gave me the opportunity to learn about myself.”

Rubin added, “Just when I heard the music I felt it. First, I met people around him and then I met him, and it just felt like it was a cool vibe. It felt like music I want to listen to. It’s usually what I go by.”

Migos & QC Label Heads Break Down Why The Group Left 300 Entertainment

(AllHipHop News) At one point, Migos were the flagship act on the newly formed 300 Entertainment. The Atlanta trio signed with the company in 2014, but apparently, they had to fight to get out of their deal.

Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff were joined by Lil Yachty as well as Quality Control Music heads Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas for a sit down with Complex. The conversation included the crew explaining their issues with the record label founded by Lyor Cohen, Roger Gold, Kevin Liles and Todd Moscowitz.

“300 was the biggest hurdle. They tried to hold us against our will,” revealed Offset.

Pee also explained that, at a certain point, 300 prevented Migos from releasing music. He stated, “It was like we were being shackled down. You have to understand, as artists, how frustrating that can be and for us as a company.”

Migos’ Grammy-nominated Culture album was distributed by 300 Entertainment in 2017. Culture 2 came out under the Motown Records/Capitol Records umbrella earlier this year.

Young Thug Bails On New Zealand Shows

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper Young Thug has decided to cancel his entire tour of Australia and New Zealand.

The rapper was supposed to play at Sydney City Limits as a co-headliner with Future.

Organizers of the Auckland City Limits Festival and Dunedin’s Outer Limits Festival the rapper has canceled all of his shows in New Zealand as well.

Over the weekend, organizers of the festival revealed Young Thug confirmed he had been granted a visa to enter in New Zealand, however, he has decided against the trip for unspecified reasons.

“Since his Australian tour dates were canceled we have tried to get him to honor his commitment to play in New Zealand, but to no avail. Young Thug has made the decision not to come to New Zealand,” the rep said.

This is not the first time Young Thug his disappointed his fans in New Zealand since he bailed on the Laneway Festival in 2017 as well.

Kendrick Lamar: ‘I Want To Be Villain In Black Panther Sequel’

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar wants to star as the villain if a sequel to Black Panther moves forward.

Michael B. Jordan played Killmonger in the superhero blockbuster, but his character (spoiler alert) met his demise in the end.

The movie is having a record-breaking run in the theaters and Lamar reveals if movie bosses order up a second film he is eager to appear in it.

“I really enjoy Killmonger’s character, just off the simple fact that he was a villain but he came with some real (talk)…,” he told BBC Radio 1. “He was a villain but he was loved and misunderstood. So if I could, I’d play a Killmonger for sure.”

If Kendrick does want to appear in the film, which features a predominantly black cast, he does have a connection to the movie after producing its soundtrack.

“Not even talking about the music – just the movie and the cast and the director – I think it’s something that not only stands within its moment but stands within time,” he says. “We’re talking about timeless films and things that are going to curate after this film. When we got to the music, I just wanted to make sure that I could complement that and be a part of (it) in the best way I could.”

Together with his Top Dawg Entertainment label boss, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, and producer Soundwave, Kendrick recruited artists including The Weeknd, Khalid, SZA, Future, Schoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, and James Blake to work on the soundtrack while he was on tour.

Will.i.Am Seeking Dismissal Of Headphone Lawsuit

(AllHipHop News) Will.i.am has called for a lawsuit filed against him over a failed headphone line to be dismissed.

Executives at FIH Mobile sued the Black Eyed Peas star’s company i.am+ over a failed wireless headphone partnership, claiming they had a deal with the singer to produce his own line of music accessories but his company refused to pay their bill once they had received the products, which allegedly cost $3.4 million.

“The Voice U.K.” judge has now responded with his own court documents in which he claimed he never had an agreement with FIH Mobile over the line.

In the lawsuit,, will.i.am has accused FIH officials of failing to deliver the products on time, producing headphones that were not up to scratch, and failing to fulfill orders.

He also claims he has already paid them $5 million for the product, and FIH Mobile had originally said they were expecting $2.3 million for the deal, yet they are claiming for $3.4 million in their lawsuit.

And the star noted that they failed to resell or salvage any of material they bought for his headphones.

He is confident he owes them nothing and wants their lawsuit dismissed.

Russell Simmons Closes Instagram Account For “Spiritual Maintenance”

(AllHipHop News) Russell Simmons has temporarily closed his Instagram account while he works on “becoming a more useful” servant of god.

The 60-year-old has gone to Indonesian island Bali in the wake of being accused of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse, and last month, he was sued by filmmaker Jennifer Jarosik, who claims he raped her.

At the time of Jarosik’s filing, Simmons issued a statement denying the claims, and he has protested his innocence once again, declaring the truth will come out in court.

The producer and yoga devotee headed to Bali to escape the furor at the Yoga Barn retreat in Ubud.

He posted a black image with white text on Instagram that read, “Temporarily closed for spiritual maintenance.”

In the accompanying caption, Simmons explained that he is working on his relationship with God, “writing, meditating at holy sites and practicing asanas.”

“Letting everyone speak, while I listen. Focusing and praying to realize one goal, BEING A MORE USEFUL SERVENT OF GOD,” he continued. “I want to fully devote myself to my daughters, the underserved communities I’ve always worked with and the growth of a new conscious community.”

Simmons post comes after he is battling allegations from three women who have accused the Def Jam Records co-founder of raping them, as well as a number of other historic sexual misconduct claims, stemming from throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

The music mogul has since stepped down from his companies following the allegations.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ldqZ-vl8Js&feature=youtu.be

MMG signed rapper, Yowda continues his push by dropping a music video for his song “F*ck the Radio.”

This time he returns with the boss of all bosses Rick Ross who makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of the music video offering advice to the MMG signee as he debates independence or the big label route.

With so much talk about the big labels vs. the indie artists these days, this song really shows what an artist goes through as he fights to come up in Hip-Hop even when you have the MMG name behind you.

Since earning a feature on Las Vegas’ Fox 5 News for the rise of Trap music in Hip-Hop, Yowda was posted on a host of sites.

In addition to with work with other members of MMG like Wale and the incarcerated Meek Mill, Yowda has a host of collaborations with artists like Mozzy, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Kevin Gates, Zoey Dollaz, Slim 400 and several other well known acts.

Akon Wanted To Help Stricken Puerto Ricans After Hurricane

(AllHipHop News) Akon wanted to help the people of Puerto Rico who were without power more than five months after a devastating hurricane.

The 44-year-old rapper-turned-philanthropist told a reporter from TMZ.com that his organization, the Akon Lighting Africa company, could have restored power back to the residents of the stricken island within weeks.

However, Akon revealed that his offer to help after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico last September was rejected by government officials.

“We actually presented a program for Puerto Rico and we got rejected. We have the solution for Puerto Rico… and we could’ve had power back in 30 days. And they rejected us,” he said. “It’s politics, propaganda, and special interests. They didn’t care about the people—if that was the case, they would have allowed us to go in and provide the solution.”

More than five months after the storm ravaged the island, 83 per cent of residents have finally had their power restored.

The “Locked Up” hitmaker reportedly struck a $50 million deal with government officials in Mozambique to bring electricity to rural areas in the country in October last year.

The Akon Lighting Africa company, which he co-founded in 2013 to provide electricity to some of Africa’s most impoverished rural areas, has also been expanded to Latin America, while also setting up the Solar Academy in Mali to teach engineers how to harness the power of the sun’s energy.
