(AllHipHop Rumors) Hmmmmmmm. It makes you stop and ask, does Hip Hop legend Nas have a great ear when it comes to picking beats?
While Nas is certainly regarded as a Hip Hop legend, the emcee is often criticized for allegedly picking terrible beats for his songs. Eminem has been criticized for this as well.
Perhaps Nas raps on beats that match his demeanor, style, and flow etc.
DJ Vlad recently sat down with Salaam Remi to get his opinion on Nas’ music and production over the years, especially since Remi has produced a lot for Nas.
Vlad has repeatedly expressed that he feels that Nas is one of the worst beat pickers of all time with the exception of ‘Illmatic’. He feels like when he puts out his bodies of his work in comparison to other artists of his caliber, beat wise, his music isn’t consistently as strong as a Jay Z, Kanye, Drake etc.
Salaam pointed out that Nas doesn’t care what anyone thinks, and that “beat picking” is not his lane or his zone. He writes to what he actually feels inspired to. He writes and picks his album based on the content of lyrics he’s on, not necessarily what everyone thinks is the hottest beat.
Now while solid, and what I like to call “nasty” production definitely helps to make and compliment a track, some argue that things like lyricism and delivery hold more weight.
Remi brings up a good point, how many artists have been in the game as long as Nas, and have been doing it as consistently as he has? He also says people shouldn’t live for critics or their opinions.
What are your thoughts? Are all components needed to make a great track? Does the content of Nas’ music outweigh his beats? Is he that bad at picking beats? Does it matter? Does Nas have subpar production?
(AllHipHop Rumors) Yesterday the internet exploded with an e-beef between “ganster” rapper Soulja Boy and the “bad boy” of R&B Chris Brown.
The two went from hurling insults, threatening each other with the fade, and both claiming to be members of the Fruit Town Piru set of the Blood gang.
A video hit the net that seems to suggest that Soulja Boy got jumped and jacked for his phone on Instagram live. Luckly for the consistent “L” taking rapper, another video from a different angle surfaced showing Soulja Boy attempting to actually “square up”, after he put his own phone down on the ground.
I’m still wondering why Big Soulja didn’t put his phone is his pocket though.
Anyway, on both video clips Soulja Boy is shown getting rejected by a man he was trying to incorporate as a co-sign in his gang and street credit.
No one takes Soulja Boy and his prop guns and imaginary goon lifestyle serious, but people did give him a temporary hold on his “L” once they realized that he didn’t in fact get jumped.
Wellllll the man who pushed Soulja Boy on Instagram Live has now responded. He says it’s f-ck Soulja Boy right now. According to him he has love for the man Soulja was with, but it’s personal with Soulja Boy.
He dares Soulja Boy to come back to the hood by himself. I’m trying to figure out is this guy more upset about SB’s claim of being affiliated with the Piru gang or just the fact that Soulja Boy touched him.
While I don’t condone violence and any of this f–kery, am I the only one that wondered why he didn’t address Soulja Boy more on location instead of making another video.
All of these cats are misguided souls begging for attention.
I’m truly drained by all of the ignorance and calls for violence, “gang members” and guns in general, and especially this week.

(AllHipHop News) Singer Janelle Monae credits Pharrell Williams with giving her the confidence to be a movie star.
In the past 18 months the “Tightrope” singer, 31, filmed her first live-action movie roles starring in “Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures.”
Despite both films garnering huge praise from critics when filming the latter movie, Janelle relied on Pharrell, who helped produce “Hidden Figures” and co-wrote the score, for reassurance she could cut it as an actress.
“He (Pharrell) pulled me to the side and he said, ‘Listen, I just want you to know that I believe in you as an actor, I believe in your ability to do movies. You must continue to pursue this,'” she recalled to the New York Times. “I said, ‘O.K., Pharrell. All right. If you say so.'”
“Hidden Figures” follows three female African-American mathematicians whose work for America’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) helped John Glenn successfully become the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the Earth in 1962.
Pharrell told the newspaper he was drawn to help make the movie, based on a book by Margot Lee Shetterly, as, “There needs to be a narrative that is shared by both men and women. The female contribution can be hid no more.”
Such was his intensity in ensuring “Hidden Figures” was a success he even watched raw footage of Janelle’s performances every day, a habit she said made her “freak out” before getting reassurance he loved her portrayal of NASA engineer Mary Jackson.
Despite being a relative novice in Hollywood terms, having only executive-produced one movie, 2015’s “Dope,” Pharrell said he had a hands on role in advising the “Hidden Figures” cast and crew.
“Oftentimes I would have an opinion about things, beyond just the music – they would listen,” he added. “I’m appreciative for that wiggle room and to be part of the conversation.”
“Hidden Figures” had a limited opening on Christmas Day, before hitting more cinemas on Friday (January 6).

(AllHipHop News) It looks like hit producer Mr. Lee will have to find a new attorney in the latest development in the fraud lawsuit of Elder Entertainment vs. Leroy Williams DBA Mr. Lee.
William E. Taylor Esq. of Taylor and Sharp, filed a motion to withdraw from the case due to non-payment of funds right before the New Year holiday.
Mr. Lee has produced for artists like Scarface, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, E40, R Kelly, Lil Keke and Pimp C.
In the lawsuit filed in May of last year, Plaintiff Ryan Elder, President and CEO of Elder Entertainment, alleges that Mr. Lee as well as agents of his, to whit, Theron Parker, Chad ‘BC’ Newton and David Smith AKA David Stunts took funds from him for contractually agreed upon services, some of which were never delivered.
Other grievances include the double selling of beats and tracks with features from a host of well-known music artists that had been purchased by the plaintiff and the selling of beats he claimed to have produced that were in fact produced by other parties.
The list of feature artists to whose verses Mr. Lee laid claim include Rick Ross, Ludacris, Too Short, Lil Wayne, David Banner, E-40, Bun B, Scarface, 2Chainz, Yo Gotti, Devin The Dude, Lil Keke, Z-Ro, Slim Thug, OG Ron C and more.
Artists Mr. Elder claims used beats purchased from Mr. Lee that were already contractually owned by Mr. Elder include Slim Thug and Beatking.
Said tracks were then distributed on the accused’s music projects allegedly despite it being known that the music was not theirs to distribute.
While no update has been received on the case of Elder Entertainment vs. Beatking, the suit naming Slim Thug was severed from the original case and will be heard separately.
In addition to the double-selling of tracks and features, Mr. Lee and agents allegedly fraudulently took money for both music videos to be produced and shot by David Stunts that were never delivered, as well as illicitly representing themselves as agents of Hoopla Media Group, a distribution company, for a distribution deal that never materialized.
Both Lee and Theron Parker are named under this allegation.
In other lawsuit news, Elder Entertainment DBA Bring It Back Records received a default judgment of $200,000 against former signee Russell D. Woods PKA Rawesome Russ for unpaid expenses and defamation of character.
That judgment was handed down in November of 2016.
(AllHipHop News) Hit producer DJ Mustard is aiming for a longevity.
He has crafted hits for artists like 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, French Montana, YG, Young Thug and Rihanna and he hopes to live long enough to continue what has thus far, been a very successful career.
Mustard is in high demand, not only for his productions but for personal appearances as well, which has created a need to consistently look great in front of the papparazi’s cameras.
But styling himself became a problem when he went shopping for clothes, especially when it came to designer threads.
“I like dressing in designer clothes and it’s hard to buy them if you are overweight,” DJ Mustard said on a recent episode of “The Real.”
“I got tired of like going in the stores and then it was like I couldn’t fit in anything,” DJ Mustard explained. “And overall, I wanted to be healthy. And you know, my son runs around the house and I wanted to be able to catch him.”
Mustard really started following a rigid regiment when he received advice from his personal Doctor and fellow super producer, Dr. Dre.
So far, DJ Mustard has lost over 100 pounds.
“I talked to Dr. Dre and stuff for a long time about losing weight…I didn’t work out or nothing like that,” DJ Mustard said. “I just really, I didn’t start working out until I started seeing results. And I was like I got to keep this going.”
Check out DJ Mustard on “The Real” below:
(AllHipHop News) Wu-Tang Clan affiliate/rapper Solomon Childs is thanking the heavens that he is still alive, after he was shot and wounded last month on Staten Island.
Solomon Childs was doing some Christmas shopping on Forest Avenue on December 10th, shopping for some new kicks, when he exchanged words with several other men inside of a sneaker store.
Things only got worse when Solomon left the store. Out of nowhere, gun shots rang out, striking Solomon twice – once in the neck, and once in the back.
There was speculation about the motive for the robbery, since a number of people had been robbed in the area by a serial criminal over the past several months.
“I didn’t know them, and I don’t think they knew me. This wasn’t gang related. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Solomon Childs told The Advance.
Solomon, whose godbrother is Cappadonna and cousin is Ghostface Killah, has already undergone two surgeries since the shooting.
One bullet went through his neck, and shattered his jaw (which is wired shut), while the second projectile is still lodged in his back.
“It’s tragic it had to happen to me like this. I never had this pain in my life. It hurts and it’s frustrating.” Still, Solomon Childs, born Ryan Dale, said he was thankful to be alive despite the excruciating pain.
“The Lord must have had angels by the thousands around me,” Solomon Childs said.
Meanwhile, one suspect is in custody for the shooting.
Police have charged 22-year-old Joendy Gomez with attempted murder and assault.
(AllHipHop News) Rapper Soulja Boy must be taking a break from social media, because it appears he has deleted his Instagram account.
This follows an apology the rapper just issued, for his role in an escalating feud with R&B singer Chris Brown.
The pair have been going back-and-forth, trading insults and threatening each other on social media, over Chris’ ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, who had nothing to do with either of the rappers, or their issues.
That didn’t stop Soulja from taking to the streets of Compton, claiming his Piru gang membership, while hurling insults at Chris Brown, who did the same thing in return on his Instagram account over the past several days.
Now, Soulja Boy has issued what he claims is his final official apology via his Twitter page which is still active.
“This video right here is for Team Soulja and all of my fans. I just want to send an apology. Over the past couple of months, I’ve been acting out, I been wildin’ out and at the end of the day it’s not about who starts the beef and it’s about who ends them,” Soulja Boy said in a video statement.
Soulja said that his mother recently fell ill and is in the hospital.
The news has resulted in the rapper having an epiphany about his actions over the past several months, which included feuds with Lil Yachty, Shia LaBeouf, and Quavo from Migos.
Soulja was even arrested in December (2016), after someone reported him for making threats on social media.
“The doctors told me everything should be all right, she should be good but no amount of money, no amount of cars, no amount of fame, will make me be alright you know, knowing that my mom’s or anything happening to mama.”
I love my mother, she always been there since I’ve been born I got her name tatted on my face and I know she’s not proud of my actions and what I’ve been doing recently. I want to make music with Chris Brown, Yachty, Quavo, everybody. So to all the media, to all the blogs to all my homies from the hood who feel like I’ve been with some hot boy s##t, I apologize, I’m back to the music. Big Soulja.

(AllHipHop Rumors) While people are certainly free to express their opinion, they may want to think twice especially when it can affect one’s opportunity and one’s coins.
Well Pastor/Gospel artist Kim Burrell had to learn the hard way after one of her sermons containing hateful and homophobic comments went viral.
Many Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin [according to the bible], so it’s hard to be surprised or alarmed at Kim’s rant.
What really got people upset was the fact that she said homosexuals were going to die in 2017 because of their perverted sin.
Considering the fact that Kim hasn’t won one Grammy or sold a significant amount of records, she messed up big time. Maybe an appearance on Ellen could’ve taken her mainstream [probably not lol].
Anyway, Kim was cut from her performance alongside Pharrell on The Ellen Show in support of their music from the ‘Hidden Figures’ film soundtrack.
Pharell & Janelle Monae have both spoken out condemning Kim’s hate speech. Janelle and Ellen have both let it be known that Kim will NOT be appearing on Ellen’s show.
The question is who cut Kim? Was it Pharrell? Ellen? Or both?
While Ellen, who is openly gay, won’t be giving Burrell a platform to spew her hate speech against homosexuals, it would’ve been entertaining to see Ellen get in Kim’s azz. #Pause!

For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show.

Islah by Kevin Gates was recognized by the RIAA for being the only debut album to reach platinum status last year.
In addition, Rihanna was one of only two acts – along with The Chainsmokers – to collect two 4x Multi-Platinum Song Awards (“Work” and “Needed Me”).
(AllHipHop News) Conglomerate rapper and Long Beach native O.T. Genasis recently weighed in on the feud between Soulja Boy and Chris Brown.
The whole thing started when Soulja started liking some of Karrueche Tran’s Instagram pictures, which turned into threats on social media.
While both men have agreed to a boxing match, O.T. Genasis fears the beef could go much further, since both Soulja Boy and Chris Brown are claiming to be Piru gang members as the drama unfolds.
“That’s a touchy subject,” O.T. Genasis told a TMZ.com cameraman as was leaving 1 OAK in Los Angeles last night (January 3).
“It’s a whole lot of Internet stuff going on, and a whole lot of real street s##t going on,” the “Cut It” rapper explained. “It’s beyond what the media is talking about. It done went far. It aint hype no more, now it’s just real street s##t. Everybody gotta figure this s##t out.”

(AllHipHop News) Two southern rap groups are making major marks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Mississippi’s Rae Sremmurd is back at #1 with “Black Beatles” featuring Gucci Mane, cutting short the one week reign of “Starboy” by The Weeknd.
Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi’s smash hit has now totaled 7 non-consecutive weeks in the top spot.

(AllHipHop News) Wale and Lil Wayne are two of the most avid sports fans in Hip Hop.
As the country prepares for the NFL playoffs, the Maybach Music Group representative and Young Money leader stopped by ESPN’s First Take to discuss the football season.
Wale tried to defend his 8-7-1 Washington Redskins.
Wayne showed love to his NFC North champion Green Bay Packers.
The rap stars also performed their new song “Running Back” for the ESPN talk show.
It is likely the track will appear on Wale’s upcoming album Shine.
