Gunplay On Donald Trump: I Don’t Condone His Ideology, I Do Respect His Business (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) For those people waiting to find out Gunplay’s views on President-Elect Donald Trump, the Carol City rapper sat down with Tim Westwood to discuss the businessman-turned-politician.

“I don’t condone what Donald Trump believes in. I don’t condone his ideology. But what I do respect is that man’s business,” said Gunplay. “You’re not gonna see the click bait, ‘Gunplay says he was voting for Donald Trump.’ But he’s alright with me, as long as he just stays in the parameters of not [being a] total racist where it’s blatant which it is right now.”

Trump shocked most of the world when he scored an Electoral College victory over Hillary Clinton. Gunplay believes the Republican’s wealth played a role in his win.

“He bought that b-tch,” declared the “Krazy” rhymer. “That’s like [Rick] Ross going to be President. It’s like one of us. He hustled. He did his thing. You gotta respect it. But I don’t believe what he believes in – his ideology and all his cockiness. That ain’t cool.”

Lil Wayne Reps Deny Rumors Of Seizures

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne’s reps are shooting down the notion that he missed the Saturday SummerFall concert in Curacao due to seizures.

Curacao , which lies off the coast of Venezuela, was supposed to feature French Montana, Fat Joe, Jeremih, Yo Gotti, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and Lil Wayne. However, Wayne backed out of the date.

Wayne’s team is reportedly stating that a “breach of contract” is the cause of the sudden cancellation, not seizures as previously reported.

Curaçao Color Events denied any wrongdoing on their side.

“Contrary to recent reports, Color Events met all contractual obligations for Lil Wayne to perform at the SummerFall concert tonight. We are still investigating the reason for the last-minute cancellation and have nothing further to comment on except that although we are disappointed Lil Wayne will not be performing, we excited about the lineup of artists who will be performing tonight.”

Whether or not Wayne had an ailment is to be determined, but he has a storied history with seizures. The rap star has had several instances, including this year.

Shining the Light: How Wale and EBM Hope to Change the World of Art

(AllHipHop Features) “I”m good in D.C.” The lyrics of a song Wale chose to preview at his Blue Friday event rang throughout The Blind Whino. Yet, these words did more than fill his hometown crowd with the necessary excitement for his fifth studio album, SHiNE.

This statement, instead, hung like a weight holding an ironic sense of reverence in a building that used to be a functioning place of worship. The respect this artist generates is because during his tenure, Wale has taken the extra steps needed to fully represent for the DMV area. From infusing the genre of Go-Go into his music to showing support for acts such as Chaz French and Will Tha Rapper, Wale has emphasized his love for Washington, D.C. (as if his Redskin’s chain wasn’t enough). Along with his affection for his hometown, Wale is also one of the more successful businessmen in Rap. His unconventional collaborations with companies like Villa, The Washington Wizards, and The WWE, prove his professional prowess. So, it seemed only a matter of time before Wale took this natural grasp for business and art and combined it with his affinity for Washington, D.C.

Every Blue Moon is the result of this combination.

While the reference to “Moon/Moonz” has been present in Wale’s music throughout his career, EBM (Every Blue Moon) was officially establish as a company in 2015. “We are an Art Collective,” EBM Creative director and Merchandise Coordinator, Vic Ojo explained. “We put together events to highlight all forms of art, specifically in the DMV area.”

Blue Friday is one of these events.

This event was held the day after Thanksgiving aptly garnering it its name. Similar to other EBM events, Blue Friday placed emphasis on spotlighting art and talent. At the venue, the collective showcased visual art from DMV artists, Trap Bob and Third World. EBM also highlighted music from local performer Ras Nebyu of the Washington Slizzards, while showing their eye for nationwide talent by inviting Brooklyn Rapper Dyme-A-Duzin to perform as well.

This was the second year of the event which the EBM team are looking to make annual. Utilizing the brand of Wale and the success of events such as Blue Friday, EBM has expanded their reach into almost every form of art imaginable. The collective has recently collaborated with D.C. streetwear brand, Solbiato, as well as holding an annual “1/1 Concert” on the first of the year at The Filmore in nearby Silver Spring, Maryland.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BNSvNJ5jnTX
With Every Blue Moon, Wale has not only showed his dedication to Washington, D.C. but also projected his love for the mediums of art. In its short existence this collective has built a strong following that could aid in their lasting impact. The hopes for EBM are clear.

“It is 97 percent possible that we will become a label,” Ojo said. “But, not just a record label. It will be a label for artists with a different subsections for the different forms of art produced.” This unconventional approach to managing careers coincides with Wale’s own path to stardom.

The DC artist entered Rap with no prior lane or outlet and succeeded in every way possible. This track record combined with his infamously fiery passion (sorry Matt Delvin), should leave Rap fans optimistic about the success of EBM. The creation of this collective is Wale’s understanding of his power and presence in Rap. Through EBM, he is using his platform to better the vantage point of the DMV to the world. Wale knows that it is only Every Blue Moon that someone gets a chance to “SHiNE,” however with EBM, he hopes to make those moons appear more frequently.

Lil Wayne Misses Major Show; Festival Reps Say Rapper Had A Seizure

(AllHipHop News) It looks like rapper Lil Wayne could be heading for some more legal trouble, after he backed out of a high profile concert over the weekend in Cuaracao.

Lil Wayne is one of the headliners of the “SummerFallin Curacao,” which also featured performances by Meek Mill, Yo Gotti, French Montana, Rick Ross, Fat Joe and others.

Sources connected to Lil Wayne told TMZ.com that Wayne backed out of his performance, because of an alleged breach of contract.

However, representatives for SummerFallin Cuaracao claimed that Lil Wayne suffered another seizure in Miami on Friday (November 25).

“Contrary to recent reports, Color Events met all contractual obligations for Lil Wayne to perform at the SummerFall concert tonight,” a rep said in a statement. “We are still investigating the reason for the last-minute cancellation and have nothing further to comment on except that although we are disappointed Lil Wayne will not be performing, we excited about the lineup of artists who will be performing tonight.”

Reps for Lil Wayne have denied any suggestions that the cancellation was connected to any medical incidents.

In July, Lil Wayne was almost forced to postpone shows in Las Vegas, after he suffered seizures.

A month earlier in June, Lil Wayne was also forced to land his jet in Omaha, while he was enroute to a show in California after he blacked out.

5 Things I Learned From Joe Hall (RIP)

5 Things I Learned From Joe Hall

chuck creekmur joe hall johnathan duane hallThere are times when somebody comes in your life and forever impacts it. That’s the sort of person Joe Hall (Jonathan Duane Hall) was to me. I won’t lie. I am having a hard time with this. The only way I can deal is to take some of the thoughts swirling in my head and share them with you. One thing that was extremely important to me, as Joe fought cancer, was for me to BE RIGHT WITH HIM. I had major life struggles going on that I was dealing with at the same time. We did not talk much during that time. So, when life cleared up, I made it my mission. Heck, I even wrote Joe a letter (LOL). I don’t come across a lot of dudes in my peer group that I look up to, but I looked up to Joe Hall. His opinion mattered to me and even when we were not speaking as much, it still mattered. In college, he was a huge presence that kept me striving to “live enormous.”

So, here are 5 (of many) Things I Learned From Joe Hall (RIP), my brother and friend.

Go Hard, Go Hard – Every Time!

Becoming a brother in Alpha Phi Alpha was something I never fully intended to happen. I considered myself an individual and had little interest in conforming within a group. I knew the brothers and respected them greatly. But it wasn’t until the Spring of ’93 when I saw The Alphas step that I was (partially) converted (with some coaching from my friends). I didn’t know Joe at the time, but he jumped off that step show and those that were there will attest to thisAll Black Fatigues and Black Timberland Boots. I had never seen a show of force like that since…the 60’s or something. Just my style! The Alphas were leaders, they were intelligent, progressive AND NOW THEY HAD THIS RUGGED, HARDCORE SIDE. I was down. Joe, Shawn G, me and later 06 The Hard Way, would continue that legacy of Black Excellence in our own little world. One time, my little rap group opened up for KRS-One and the Lords of the Underground. And Joe got up on stage and started stepping – totally unplanned, but it added EVERYTHING to the performance. This is one of many lifelong memories.

Giving Up Is NOT Optional

The process of becoming an Alpha was not an easy one. In fact, it’s my greatest mental/physical challenge outside of living in this crazy world. The only thing that has come close was running a marathon. Joe was a big part of my process, both the mental and physical side. When I was pledging – and I don’t think I have ever admitted this – but there was ONE moment when I wanted to quit. I am no quitter, but by that time all my line brothers had dropped and I was the only one left, yes quitting entered my mind. Joe had become like my dean by this time and he would have none of it. Giving up wasn’t an option even when your mind is playing tricks on you. I don’t think I would have quit, really, but I really did need some encouragement at that time. His response to cancer did not surprise me. Joe – the fighter – nobody wanted to tangle with him.

The Inside / Outside Game Is A Pathway To Victory

Joe was a police officer – after a short stint as a teacher – which was dicey for me. In the 90’s we saw different levels of injustice. It could be Rodney King or it could be driving a red car and getting pulled over all the time like I did. But early on Joe told me THEN that it was important to be in those institutions to implement some level of change inside. I remember one time, him speeding on the way home from Philly after he became a police officer. We got pulled over. This cop was so MAD after Joe flashed his badge. He couldn’t do a thing. No ticket, just angst from somebody that really wanted to stick it to us. 😉  I got it after that. We didn’t talk a LOT about the job, but I know he went through a lot including physical injury. The idea sticks with me, especially in these days.

Continue On…Keep Moving Forward…Life Goes On…

When I left Delaware, I had this grand mission of a group of us all going to New York City and taking over. At the end of the day, only two of us left, me and Steve Raze Julien. But Joe was one of the people that I recruited. Joe kept it real, “Go on without me.” I should have known, he had a higher commitment to Shanda and his family-to-be. But, I appreciated that. He told me to go on. There are far too many people that will act as an anchor, hold you back or pretend to be with you. Joe’s mission was different. He knew that and kept it moving.

On another instance, when one of our college comrades died of cancer, I was tore all the way up. At the funeral, Joe really eased my spirit. I was questioning everything in that moment, even God. I just couldn’t understand. Joe was mourning too, but he was calm at that moment. I cannot remember his exact words, but he implored to me that she’s still with us, just in a different form.

Evolve

Later in life, Joe became spiritual and deeply religious. He was on my mind the day before he passed. I had a strange incident with a security guard at a super market and I immediately thought of Joe. However, I called Ken Swain, as it dealt with fraternity and masonry (the Joe part). But, Joe was a different person and I appreciated that evolved person as well. In fact, although I know we will miss him, it is great to know that he found solace, comfort and peace that only the Creator can bring. “Keep God first,” he told me in our last conversation. He also told me that he was proud of me, which means everything to me.

In closing, I just want to say that to Joe’s Family, Shanda, The Kids and extended family, stay strong and in prayer. Joe was a LIGHT. We’ll see him again. Stay blessed. This isn’t easy for me, so I know its hard[er] for others. I just pray we all know God, know growth and know it is our duty to SHINEJust like Joe.

Nas Praises Fidel Castro In Death, Criticism Ensues

(AllHipHop News) Fidel Castro has died at the age of 90. The long-living, former president of Cuba has garnered a number of comments from critics, supporters and people all walks of life.

Some regard him a revolutionary that stood up to governmental bullies and others regard him a dictator that oppressed his own people.

Rapper Nas offered a decidedly noncommittal view that bordered on support. The community that follows the QB rapper seemed to overwhelmingly chide him for his commentary.

“RIP KING FIDEL CASTRO #revolutionary only 5% understand. Im not Cuban, I don’t fully know how he effected my Cuban family, so I’m sending strength and power for your pains,” Nas said. “But lots Of us, as Black people, n some others in the USA, we saw him as an Ally in the Struggle.✊??

What seemed like a conciliatory remark that catered to both sides, sparked a voracious debate in the comments section of the rapper’s Instagram.

One poster said, “This is disrespectful to so many people. Your words carry immense weight and apparently you don’t care about the cost of your factually inaccurate post. When you admittedly don’t know what your talking about, it might be wise to say nothing at all.”

“Oppressed the Cuban people and brought them to their knees and brought the country to ruins. So the 5% that you claim to understand his “revolutionary” antics are straight comepingas,” another person said. “Ask your cuban family what that phrase means. Dont speak on sh*t you dont know about.”

It wasn’t all bad for Nas. Some commenters offered varying degrees of support or the rapper.

One person: “No disrespect to you or your people’s dealings but I know when it came down to dealings with my personal African American heroes and Fidel, he was always an ally and comrade. For people to come on here and cuss out others for their personal views/beliefs is just preposterous to me.”
