New Documentary Will Tell The Story Of Native Tongues: De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah and More

“Speaking in Tongues: The Legend of the Native Tongue Posse”

(AllHipHop News) A new documentary is slated to reveal the untold story of Native Tongues, the eclectic group of artists that truly blossomed in the early 1990’s. The Native Tongues Posse consisted of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, Black Sheep, Chi Ali and The Jungle Brothers.

A new documentary called “Speaking in Tongues: The Legend of the Native Tongue Posse” is forming, but has erected a KickStarter campaign to fund the remaining production process.

The press release states:

The film is a celebratory tale – told by the Posse’s original members – of what happens when a group of proverbial “new kids” choose individuality over conformity to become hip hop’s new “cool kids.”  It’s the first ever, complete look at a collective that not only made timeless art-filled masterpieces in the form of recorded music, but also championed individuality while spreading messages of Afrocentrism and self-awareness.

The film is led by Omar Akil (NBC, ESPN, BET and MTV),  famed movie/video producer Benny Boom, producer Norman Parrish and director of photography Ramulas Burgess. “Speaking in Tongues: The Legend of the Native Tongue Posse”needs $48,000 to complete the process of film making.

Akil explains:

“Quite honestly we’ve taken this project as far as we can on our own. We’ve invested our own resources for more than 8 years, and have captured more than 40 hours of exclusive footage during that time. However, most successful feature films are the result of a group effort – sometimes the size of a small community. In this instance, we’re expanding that community to one of global proportions because we believe people all across the world have been positively affected by the existence of the Native Tongue Posse and want to see a film that successfully tells their story in their own words.”

Supporting the film offers a number of perks, including merch, spa day with Monie Love, Golf with Dres from Black Sheep and even producer credits.

OG Disses Young Thug And UZI Vert, On Blood!

I don’t know who Boskoe is, but he has a significant following and he’s also what I would call and OG. He just looks like an OG. I cannot confirm that he is a real OG. However, we know that OGs speak a certain way and they speak out against perceived violations to the G-Code. Well, this new era is coming up and out like a Diana Ross song. Check this out.

50 Cent vs Baby Moms / Drake vs Jay Z / Michel’le Vs Dre & More!

50 Cent Smacked His Baby Moms?

This situation with 50 and his ex Shaniqua is steadily getting worse. Just when you think it can get worse, it gets worse-er. This time, she drops a bombshell that stays 50 physically assaulted her and has a police report to back it up. The other post she explains what happened with a property that she supposedly sold. I personally don’t care about any of this, but I supposed people are interested.

Drake Shades Jay Z.

What is “shading” in the year 2016? That’s a weak way of dissing somebody – sort of like a passive way of dissing somebody. No shade to Drake, but that seems to be the issue. People are making a “thing” out of Drake “liking” this pic of Jay, Diddy and him.

They were out to get him? I guess Diddy was since he put the “beats” on him.

Michel’e Can’t Be Stopped!

If you thought Michel’le’s take down of Dr. Dre in her horrid movie was the end, forget about it. The “Surviving Compton” actress just signed a deal that will increase her viability more than when she was a singer.
Did Suge Knight Jr. Beat Up His Mom? About 2.3 million people watched that movie of abuse and degradation and it got her another show about her life and her family. It may also get her more voice over work and a book. Last but not least, she is about to drop a new album.

Uhm….

Michel’le’s new movie just dropped and it shook up the world for Dr. Dre. But, it also shook up things for Suge Knight too. As you know, Michel’le has kids from both Suge and Dre. What a QUANDARY that is, right? Well, Suge Knight, Jr. allegedly attacked his own mother, but his mom is not the Death Row singer. His mother is Stormey. Stormey hates Michel’le and seems like she stole him from their family. Sure Jr. is 30 years old and pretty sturdy at 200 pounds. He did something to his mom, but we don’t really know why. Did I mention this happened earlier this year? No? I just realized that right now. So this is kind of pointless.

The Final Word…

STOP TRAPPIN’ OUT YA MAMA HOUSE!

Kendrick Lamar & Mary J.Blige Link Up For Outspoken Cover Track “American Skin (41 Shots)”

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige have teamed up for their own version of Bruce Springsteen’s politically outspoken track “American Skin (41 Shots).”

Springsteen was originally inspired to record the track after the controversial police killing of Amadou Diallo in February of 1999, but he continued to perform it during similar circumstances, such as the unjust shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Unfortunately, the issue of police brutality and racism is still as prevalent as ever with black men like Terrence Crutcher, Alton Sterling, and Keith Lamont Scott becoming casualties of police violence within the calendar year.

Mary J. Blige recently sang a portion of the track during a conversation with former First Lady and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton on her Apple Music show, 411 when discussing the issue of racial inequity.

The Truth Is Out: Jay Z Really Hates Kanye West?!

While it seemed like Jay Z loved Kanye West for being Kanye, the truth is, all hasn’t been well with The Throne for a while.

Even Hov is tired of Ye’s wild antics and rants. PageSix has learned via insiders that Kanye and Jay Z haven’t exactly been the best of friends or on the best of terms.

Kanye is particularly upset that Jay Z didn’t come by his house and truly check on him after his wife, Kim Kardashian, was robbed in Paris, and that their kids have never even played together, like they are truly brothers.

A source claims that the two rappers’ friendship was never genuine.

“Jay can’t stand him. He looks at him as this crazy, eccentric motherf-cker he can tolerate in small doses. Kanye is a nut job. Everyone knows that,” claims the insider.

The source also claims that Jay only tolerated Ye during the ‘Watch The Throne’ tour because there was so much money to be made.

For millions, we are sure many would tolerate Ye.

The insider claims that although it seems like Jay appreciates Kanye’s genius, it’s all just perception. The source says Jay is a very laid back guy and Kanye West craves the spotlight; they are very different.

Do you think Jay really despises Kanye. I ain’t gone lie. I always thought Kanye probably got on Jay Z’s nerves.

Blac Chyna Believes Tyga Has Been Spying On Her!

Uh oh! Blac Chyna seems to believe Tyga and Kylie Jenner were spying on her when they threw a matching Ferrari themed birthday party for Chyna and Tyga’s son King Cairo!

Blac Chyna threw King Cairo a Ferrari themed birthday party with a mini Ferrari car, Ferrari bedroom, and a Ferrari cake.

Blac Chyna showed off the party live via Snap Chat only to be outdone the next day by her baby daddy with the exact same theme.

For King Cairo the birthday festivities were nothing short of awesome, but for Chyna it had to suck as she planned the party for 2 months.

Tyga’s version was held at Kylie Jenner’s mansion and included Ferrari decorations, a ferris wheel, and special guest, North West. Lol.

Blac Chyna’s party had more kids, but Tyga’s clearly won for extravagance.

Blac Chyna doesn’t believe the parties were a coincidence. In fact, she believes someone on the production team of her reality show tipped Tyga and Kylie off.

We wonder why they didn’t just join forces to do one big party especially since the whole family claims to be on good terms now.

Coincidence or petty? LOL.

How Lil Wayne’s Riker’s Island Journal Intersects with Ava DuVernay’s “The 13th”

Image result for lil wayne wennIn 2010, Lil Wayne and Kalief Browder were both in Rikers Island.

One was a famous rap star, and the other was a poor teenager from The Bronx. Lil Wayne was sentenced to Rikers to serve a one-year sentence for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He entered the prison in March of 2010 and was released in November of 2010. His experiences, which are at once sad, scary, funny, and moving have recently been published in his memoir, “Gone Til November.”

Kalief Browder, who was arrested on false charges of second-degree robbery was held on $10,000 bond. For three years. Unlike, Lil Wayne, Browder was not convicted of his charges. He was literally sitting in jail because he and his family could not afford to bail him out. Without a trial, Browder was held for three years and two of those years were spent in solitary confinement. He was eventually released when his charges were dismissed, and two years after his release he committed suicide by hanging. The horrific conditions of Browder’s detention contributed greatly to his terrible depression, and eventual suicide.

The two stories which happened at nearly the same time have some surprising parallels, and many major differences. Wayne was held in restrictive custody, that means that he was in a unit that was fairly insular. In his book, he writes about his fellow inmates and captains as if they are a cast of recurring characters on a sitcom or at least a dramedy. While Browder was booked into the Robert N. Davoren Center which houses male adolescents ages 16-18. The jail is known for having a “deep-seated culture of violence.”

Rikers Island is New York City’s main jail complex. It sits on a 400-acre island floating halfway between Queens and The Bronx. There are eight jails for men, and one for women. At any given time, on any given day, there are about 11,000 people housed at Rikers. Most are awaiting trials are serving short-term sentences. Rikers has repeatedly been ranked one of the 10 worst correctional facilities in the United States.

Rikers also has the dubious distinction of having one of the country’s highest rates of solitary confinement. Both Browder and Wayne both experienced solitary confinement. In solitary, Browder was deprived of food, and was only able to leave his cell for showers, which were not daily. Wayne was taken to solitary during his sentence for possession of an MP3 player, which is writes about in the book as one of his greatest sources of comfort. He went to solitary confinement in the infirmary ward and writes in detail about being taken to the showers to discover pools of blood.

Both Lil Wayne and Kalief Browder contemplated suicide at Rikers. The bleak circumstances that he was in, without conviction, Browder became depressed and attempted suicide after sitting in Rikers for two years.

Wayne did not attempt suicide, in fact, early in his sentence he worked as a Suicide Prevention Aide where his job was to walk the unit with a flashlight at night, and shine it into cells every half-hour to ensure that no one is “hanging up.” However, toward the end of the book, he did ruminate on his thoughts about suicide in jail:

“I ended up thinking about all types of s###. One thing that stood out was how I’ve never been this close to suicide before. It’s truly a new reality for me. I was actually there when this kid that was in mental isolation tried to hang up. What’s really f##### up is that it all could’ve been prevented if the [correctional officers] would’ve just brought him some water. P. 139”Image result for gone til november book

One could only imagine what would have happened if their paths had crossed. If they had known about the other, if they had been able to speak. Would the young Browder, who entered jail a 17-year-old student, and would depart a 20-year-old man, have been impressed to hear from or meet a famous rapper? Would it have helped at all? We will never know.

After Wayne’s release from Rikers Island in November 2010, he was back partying at Liv in Miami the following Sunday. When he left, he rode out in a Phantom. He would go on to record more music and make more money.

Kalief Browder was a different story. He returned home to his family, quieter, sullen, broken. He would stay alone in his room with the door closed, often pacing the same way he did in solitary. While Wayne asserts in “Gone Til November,” “they can lock up our body, but not our mind,” Browder’s mind was still locked up even though his body was free and in June of 2015 two years after being out ofRikers, Browder hung himself at his Bronx home. His body was discovered by his mother, who herself passed away this week, of what the New York Daily News calls, “a broken heart.” (Editor’s Note: New York Mayor de Blasio terminated solitary confinement for 16- and 17-year-olds, a move highly influenced by the Kalief Browder case.)

The intersection between the release of Lil Wayne’s memoir, the debut of DuVernay’s The 13th on Netflix, and the death of Venida Browder are all unrelated coincidences, or are they? Could they be the universe nudging us to act? To make prison reform the next, and perhaps, most important next step of the Black Lives Matter Movement? Either way, they are all evidence that we are living in the midst of a moment. A moment where we, the generation who grew up writing book reports on Martin Luther King, Jr., have to become activists. We have to become more than social media activists and hashtaggers, we have to take action. We have to save lives, and by saving others, we may just save ourselves.

Lil Wayne’s moving memoir, Gone Til November is available now in stores and online, published by Plume Press. Ava DuVernay’s outstanding documentary, The 13th is streaming on Netflix.

Rest in Peace to Kalief and Venida Browder.

Jaheim’s New Hairdo Earns Him The Donkey Of The Day!

Last night R&B singer Jaheim set social media on fire just like he did at Whitney Houston’s funeral with that royal purple suit.

Jaheim debuted a new curly/ wavy hair style for the world to see. As you know this already went south for Yung Joc.

The singer became the subject of social media roasting and memes for over 12 hours! Fans of The Breakfast Club usually can predict who will be the Donkey Of The Day when something goes down.

Well Ja certainly earned the spot. Jaheim jumped on Twitter to defend his new ‘do with some pretty crude remarks.

Charlamagne Tha God “awarded” Jaheim the “Donkey” of the day, and this p##### the singer off.

Jaheim sounded off on social media saying he was going to break Charlamagne’s rib cage and make him p### blood.

Oh my! Let me fill y’all in though. Jaheim is from the hood and had a rough/troubled life before this music stuff popped off, so it may be safe to say that he is about that life.

Ludacris Still Has His “Break” Baby Mama On Lock!

Welp Ludacris still has his side chick baby mama or break baby mama, Tamika Fuller, on lock.

Luda has the final say as to what Fuller can post on social media about their 3-year-old daughter.

According to TMZ, documents filed on Wednesday in Luda’s child custody case with Fuller show that the judge said Luda can force Tamika to remove any photos of their daughter from social media if he doesn’t approve.

Neither parent is allowed to use the child in articles, interviews, or GoFundMe pages….Remember Tamika once made a GoFundMePage #Lawd.

Luda also has the final say in regards to his daughter’s religious upbringing, school, and doctor.

Fuller has been battling Luda for a while now over custody, and she allegedly tried to frame him for child abuse with some allegedly photoshopped photos. Well, hopefully they’ll get along soon for the sake of the child.

Rick Rubin Interviews Kendrick Lamar About Making A Non-Rap Album, Being Inspired By Eminem & More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) GQ Style  commissioned legendary producer Rick Rubin to sit down with Kendrick Lamar for an in-depth interview.

Rubin questioned the Grammy-winning rap star about numerous topics including whether Kendrick would ever be interested in creating an album where he is not rapping.

“I think I got the confidence for it. If I can master the idea and make the time to approach it the right way, I think I can push it out,” responded Kendrick.

The discussion also included Rubin and Lamar talking about the clarity of the TDE representative’s lyrical content as opposed to many of the modern-day rappers’ focus on “vibe” over bars.

“I got my clarity just studying Eminem when I was a kid,” explained Kendrick. He continued, “The day I heard The Marshall Mathers LP, I was just like, How does that work? What is he doing? How is he putting his words together like that? What’s the track under that? An ad-lib? What is that?

Eminem annotated part of the GQ feature via Genius. The Detroit spitter praised K Dot’s first major label album good kid, m.A.A.d city.

“When I first heard Kendrick’s debut on Aftermath, I couldn’t believe it. The fact that it was his first real album and he was able to make it into a story which intertwines with the skits like that was genius,” wrote Em. “That hasn’t really been done that many times, let alone on someone’s first time up. The level of wordplay, the deliveries, the beats—it’s just a masterpiece.”

Azealia Banks Doesn’t Want To Press Charges Against Russell Crowe

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Azealia Banks is no longer planning to press charges against actor Russell Crowe over their alleged hotel bust-up.

The “212” star sensationally claimed the Australian choked her, spat at her and hurled racial insults following a dispute in his suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel over the weekend – allegations which sources close to the actor have denied.

Azealia filed a police report for battery on Sunday (October 16) but she has now revealed she is no longer planning to press charges against the “Gladiator” star because she wants the drama to be over so she can focus on her music.

“Realistically, to be honest, I really don’t want to. Because I just don’t want this in the media,” she told Us Weekly. “I want my music out. I just want to f##king put my music out… I just want my music to shine. I don’t want to be dealing with another episode, another thing, another whatever.”

Despite this comment, Azealia is still determined to get an apology from Russell, after making repeated calls on social media and in the press for him to say sorry after the incident.

“(Russell) feels that he did nothing wrong, so I’m just like, ‘OK, if you want to pay a bunch of litigators and a bunch of people to apologize to me, then I guess that’s what you want to do,’” she adds. “You could apologize to me for free now and make this all go away.”

During the interview, Azealia, who has become more famous for her celebrity feuds and controversial remarks than her vocal talents, said she knows her reputation is “already f##ked” but she doesn’t have the energy or time to fight those who don’t believe her.

It was reported the rapper cut ties with Wu-Tang Clan star RZA, who she had just signed a recording contract with, for not backing her over the scandal but RZA wrote in a lengthy Facebook post that the deal was never finalized.

He also laid the blame on Azealia, who he claimed was acting like an “obnoxious erratic individual” who physically attacked someone for “no logical reason” at the hotel.
