Tory Lanez Explains His Decision Behind Remixing Drake’s “Controlla” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) When Drake rapped “All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little” on “Summer Sixteen,” many listeners concluded the line was directed at The New Toronto mixtape creator Tory Lanez.

The two Canadians have seemed to be involved in a subliminal war of words dating back several months. It appeared Lanez was adding to the feud by trolling Drake with a remix to the OVO leader’s “Controlla.”

That led to Drizzy changing the lyrics to “Summer Sixteen” to “All you boys doing fake ‘Controllas’ wanna be me a little” during an Austin tour stop in July.

So what was Tory’s intention when he released his own rendition of Drake’s radio smash? The rapper-singer stopped by Sway In The Morning, and he was asked about the “Controlla” controversy.

“I just like the song. That’s all it was. I’m not a hater,” replied Lanez. “We like you. We just want to be #1. Is there a problem with that? Can I be the best? Can y’all watch me be great? Will y’all allow me to do that? That’s all it is. Damn.”

He added, “I was just trying to hop on somebody’s beat. I’ve been hopping on everybody’s beat. If you go back to my discography of music, there’s a wide part of it that’s just freestyles, just me ripping people’s beat.”

Lanez went on to offer that his approach to remixing other act’s songs is similar to Dancehall artists recording over the same riddim. Last year, Drake gave a similar explanation to why his “Hotline Bling” was so similar to D.R.A.M.’s “Cha Cha.”

Tory Lanez’s debut studio album I Told You is scheduled for release on August 19. The LP’s tracklist includes the singles “Say It” and “Luv.”

Snoop Dogg Talks Tupac Smashing One Of His Main Chicks!

We all know it went down in the Death Row days, and this is why hearing stories from the era never gets old.

Snoop Dogg took time out to chat with The Drink Champs podcast about his good ol’ Death Row days. The podcast hosts wanted to know how much p-ssy Snoop got during his ‘Doggystyle’ days, but Snoop revealed it was really when Tupac joined Death Row that he got the most a-s!

Snoop said he had another playa to roll with when Pac came along! Snoop even says Pac hit one of his main chicks! According to Snoop, one of his girls always wanted to meet Tupac. One night both of them were in the club, and Pac said he wanted to meet this girl who happened to be one of Snoop’s main chicks.

Snoop says he introduced his girl to Tupac, and he walked off. He says he guesses the girl (at the time his sidepiece) exchanged numbers with Pac because one night, Snoop says he wanted to creep on by and see his girl on the late night tip, and the girl hit him with,

“I don’t think Pac would like that.”

Snoop even talks about Pac having Madonna. Pac was the real Mr. Steal Your Girl!

Desiigner Says Old School Hip-Hop Helps Bolster His Creativity

(AllHipHop News) Even though some old head Hip-Hop followers are not fans of Desiigner’s brand of music, the New Yorker claims he is actually into rap from past eras.

Desiigner was one of the performers at Adidas Original’s one-night event at the iconic NYC Hip-Hop club known as The Tunnel.

The G.O.O.D. Music representative spoke about being inspired by previous generations of emcees.

Billboard reports:

The Brooklyn native and “Panda” hitmaker told Billboard exclusively that listening to old-school Hip-Hop helps bolster his creativity, adding “my creative process has no boundaries, and I think that represents the future of Hip-Hop.”

As a product of Bedford–Stuyvesant, Desiigner was raised in the same neighborhood that produced Hip-Hop legends Big Daddy Kane, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z, Lil Kim, and others.

However, the “Tiimmy Turner” rhymer has expressed he does not subscribe to having a Brooklyn sound.

“Nobody can put a barrier on music, period. Just cause you come from Brooklyn, you’re supposed to sound like you’re from Brooklyn?” he stated in a recent interview. “I don’t know what a Brooklyn sound is.”

Desiigner has also revealed that he was influenced by the Funk, Reggae, and Trap genres.

GoFundMe Campaign Created To Finance Movie About Cop-Killed New Yorker Sean Bell

(AllHipHop News) This November will mark ten years since Sean Bell lost his life at the hands of NYPD officers.

In 2006, cops fired 50 bullets at the unarmed 23-year-old and his friends outside a Queens, New York club. Bell was killed just hours before he was set to marry his fiancee Nicole Paultre.

Three detectives were indicted for the shooting. Gescard Isnora and Michael Oliver were charged with manslaughter, assault, and reckless endangerment. Marc Cooper was charged with reckless endangerment.

All of the defendants were eventually acquitted of any crimes. Many observers – including the Bell family – felt the legal outcome was a miscarriage of justice.

Tru Vision Films is now in the process of telling Sean’s story in a new movie. The filmmakers are asking for donations from the public to help see the project come to fruition.

The current fundraising goal is set at $2 million. To donate money to Tru Visions’ Sean Bell movie visit gofundme.com.

Mariah Carey Lands Role As “Kitty” On “Empire”

(AllHipHop News) Mariah Carey is expanding her acting resume after signing on to appear in an upcoming episode of “Empire.”

The diva will portray Kitty, “a mega-superstar” who collaborates with Jussie Smollett’s character “Jamal Lyon” on a new song recorded for the show.

The episode, which will air on October 5th, has been a long time coming – her “Precious” director Lee Daniels told fans at Mariah’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling last year that the singer would feature in his hit drama.

Carey’s “Empire” role won’t be her only TV appearance this autumn – she will also launch her new docu-series, “Mariah’s World.”

The series will take fans behind the scenes of her ongoing tour as she plans her wedding to Australian businessman James Packer.

The “Fantasy” singer recently visited the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills to talk about the forthcoming E! project, while sipping champagne.

Carey insisted “Mariah’s World” is not a reality show, stating, “I don’t consider it reality… I haven’t been on tour in Europe in about 10 years. So I thought, let’s just show the behind the scenes, what it really takes to do a tour… and mainly, watch how the music evolves, watch the process, and watch how the different personalities clash. I don’t even watch reality – I don’t even know what reality is, literally.”

She is working with producers to ensure the eight-part series is as authentic as possible, revealing she is using discretion to decide whether or not her fiance, ex-husband Nick Cannon and their twins Moroccan and Monroe will appear.

“I think we’re still drawing lines,” she explained. “I think in the beginning I was withholding the amount of access because I’m never sure who to trust. I just didn’t know how things were going to be perceived… We’re still in the process of filming and getting more real moments. But my goal is to make this a lasting piece of work for my fans.”

The show will premiere on America’s E! network on December 4th.

Meanwhile, “Empire” returns to U.S. TV September 21st.

Season three guests also include Taye Diggs, rapper French Montana, and rapper/producer Bryan “Birdman” Williams.

Has Frank Ocean’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ Album Release Date Been Pushed Back To November?

Well it looks like the wait is far from over for Frank Ocean’s forthcoming album. His sophomore album was slated to drop this past Friday, but clearly Frank and his ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ is nowhere to be found.

Rumor has it that the album actually won’t drop until Nov. 13. This is a date implied by yet another library due-date stamp on Frank’s website.

Fans have been patiently waiting for new music since Frank dropped his Grammy Award-winning debut album, ‘Channel Orange’ back in 2012. Since the album failed to drop over the weekend, fans have been freaking out.

Many are fearing that the album won’t even live up to the hype by the time it is released. The due-date image is the only piece of “info” and hope that fans currently have to hold on to. As of right now, it looks like Frank is certainly gone ’til November.

Judge Orders Tyga To Reveal Finances and Assets or Face Arrest

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Tyga is scheduled to appear in court today (August 9), over allegations that he failed to pay a $480,000 judgement over damage to a house he rented in Malibu.

The rapper, born Michael Ray Stevenson, is supposed to be questioned about his financial affairs and his assets during today’s hearings in a Santa Monica Courtroom.

Tyga rented the pricey Malibu mansion in 2011, which came with a price tag of $16,000 a month.

In addition to missing one month’s worth of rent, the rapper is accused of breaking his lease early and trashing the place.

The landlord claims Tyga installed a custom stripper pole in the master bedroom, and ruined the hardwood floors and showers in the pricey residence.

Tyga was sued over the issue in 2012, and lost a default judgment. According to the L.A. Times, Tyga refuses to pay, but the landlord attorneys are pushing the issue and continuing their pursuit of the default judgment.

Last month, Tyga was served with a lawsuit while he was on stage during a performance at Comic-Con in San Diego.

If Tyga doesn’t show up today for a “debtor’s examination,” which will examine his income sources and assets while under oath, an arrest warrant will be issued for the rapper.

Drake Takes More Shots At Hot 97: “This Is The Real Summer Jam” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Drake ended his four-night run at New York City’s Madison Square Garden by taking another shot at Hot 97.

Drizzy and the radio station – DJ Funkmaster Flex in particular – have been sending disses at each other for several days.

At last night’s show, the OVO Sound leader suggested his “Summer Sixteen Tour” is a better representation of NYC than Hot’s highly publicized annual Summer Jam concert.

“Shout out to everybody tonight that touched this stage. It was a lot of people,” Drake told the crowd. “This was the real Summer Jam. What have they done for New York lately? I don’t know, but this is the real Summer Jam.”

Several surprise guests made appearances at MSG. J. Cole, Dipset, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, and T.I. all performed during the show.

Bow Wow Gets Roasted For Announcing That He’s Retiring From Rap

Legendary rapper Lil’ Bow Wow recently took to Twitter and Instagram to announce once again that he is retiring from rap with his last album that will be executively produced by Snoop Dogg. It seems like no one needed the announcement and no one cared as the rapper and actor was immediately roasted relentlessly.

Bow has sold millions of records, won a few awards, put out 7 studio albums, and he’s finally hanging up that microphone.

Shad Moss’ announcement certainly caused him to take another “L” soon after the one he took for saying he can’t relate to black issues or the struggle of black ancestors because he’s mixed.

Although you may have to see Bow Wow host a few more awards show carpets, appear in random movies, and beef with his reality star exes on social media, you will never have to hear the man rap again! Check out some of the funny moments from the Bow Wow roast session below.

Drake and Charlamagne Tha God Finally Meet, The Former Adversaries Post Photos Together

(AllHipHop News) The saying goes, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

The message of that expression may be partially behind Drake posting a picture of him with Charlamagne Tha God to his Instagram page. Charlamagne added his own photo from the final night of “The Summer Sixteen Tour” at Madison Square Garden as well.

Over the last week, Drake has been feuding with Hot 97 and Funkmaster Flex. Hot is a longtime rival of fellow New York City radio station Power 105, and Charlamagne has spent years making fun of Flex.

According to DJ Envy, last night was the first time Drake and Charlamagne met in person.

They also had a rocky relationship at one time, because Drizzy was a regular target of CTG’s jokes.

The testy situation between Drake and Charlamagne was first addressed in a positive manner when the Toronto performer mentioned the radio host on “Back To Back.”

“You gon’ make me buy bottles for Charlamagne,” rapped Drake on the Meek Mill diss record. Champagne Papi eventually sent bottles of champagne to his former antagonist.

(AllHipHop News) Fugees alum and proud Haiti representative Wyclef Jean is currently gearing up top release a new EP September 30 entitled J’overt.

The soon to be released EP finds the inspiration in its name from the official start of Carnival in the eastern Carribean.

“Every day when I wake up, I go into the studio and record,” Wyclef told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “There’s always a guitar and a piano nearby. I’m always writing, that’s my survival. I don’t go to a therapist. My therapy is when I pick up my guitar and sing.””

Along with Jean’s latest single “Hendrix,” the crooner has dropped a Spanglish version of the track “Hendrix (Spanglish Remix)”  along with the track “My Girl,”leading up to the release of his J’ouvert EP.

“The devil, or the streets, offered drugs and cartel and I chose music,” Wyclef continued. “Some homies chose the NBA, or we would see people like Shaq who are from Newark and see how they made it out the danger zone.”

Bankroll Fresh’s Cousin Street Money Boochie Responds To No Plug’s Comments About Fatal Shooting (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) There were a lot of rumors surrounding the killing of rising Atlanta rapper Trentavious “Bankroll Fresh” White immediately following his death on March 4.

Months later Bankroll’s longtime friend No Plug admitted he was involved in the shooting at Street Execs studio which caused the death of Bankroll.

No Plug has insisted the incident was the result of him trying to defend himself. 2016 XXL Freshman class member 21 Savage even backed up Plug’s claim in a sit-down at The Breakfast Club last week.

Bankroll Fresh’s Cousin Street Money Boochie has now conducted his own interview with GRIP Magazine

“We all grown. It don’t take a rocket scientist to figure out it’s lies being told,” said Boochie.

He added, “Y’all know who Bankroll Fresh is… That’s just like if you see Jeezy with a gun in his hand and you’re like, ‘Jeezy’s trying to kill me.’ You know damn well this man got sh-t going on, family to feed. He ain’t got time to waste his life over yours.”

According to No Plug, Bankroll came to the studio the night of the shooting with the intent of confronting him over past issues between the two rappers. They reportedly got into a physical altercation inside the building.

At one point a shootout began outside the facility. Plug alleged it was Bankroll that fired first.

New reports suggest the Fulton County District Attorney’s office is still considering pressing charges against No Plug. His recent Q&A with VladTV may play a part in the D.A’s  investigation.

Atlanta MC Killer Mike Urges Michael Jordan To Invest Jordan Profits Into Black Owned Bank (PIC)

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta MC Killer Mike has made himself a name as an artist who is very adamant on addressing the social ills in the Black community, and now he’s urging NBA legend and owner of Jordan shoe wear brand Michael Jordan to do the same.

Killer Mike, born Michael Render, isssued an Instagram post and challenge to Jordan to invest his profits from the Jordan brand into a black owned bank.

“We know that with your example other Players will follow.I’m sure Jim Brown, Kareem & Bill Russell will agree. Love ya man. U truly were/are the greatest,” stated Mike in the post encouraging Jordan to invest his money directly into the community.

Jordan made headlines July 25 after the icon donated $1 million a piece to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Institute for Community-Police Relations due to his concerns of growing tension among minority citizens and law enforcement across the nation.

Although the donations were of good intentions they drew much criticism, as many felt that Jordan was riding the fence to keep his image intact as opposed to displaying an interest in the ills of the black community directly.

Taking the initiative to support black owned banks is nothing new to Mike, as the MC recently started an account at Citizen’s Trust Bank in Atlanta, along with Young Thug, Young Dolph, T.I., and others.

Master P Says You Have To Stay Strapped In Hollywood, Plans To Expose The Fakes

Master P recently explained that the affluent have to stay strapped even in Hollywood because there are so many fake accountants, fake financial advisors, strippers that say they are models and actresses etc. He also says there are still a lot of haters in Hollywood as well, so he chooses to stay to himself.

Master P went on to say that even professional athletes will come to other entertainers trying to get investments, but they want to invest in something like weed. Master P says,

“If I wanted to be a dope dealer, I could’ve stayed in the projects. My motivation to get out.”

P says he’s going to create a show called ‘The Real Hollywood’ where he will be exposing the fake and the phony people. He wants to teach people how to invest their money and make the right choices.

Master P says DJ Khaled has nothing on him as he is really about to give people the blueprint to the game. We’ll be on the lookout for Master P dropping this knowledge.
