Omarion Calls Bow Wow’s Comments Following His Breakup With Apryl Jones “Wack” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last summer, Shad “Bow Wow” Moss made news after he made a public comment about Omarion’s breakup with the mother of his children, Apryl Jones.

“Let’s go knock some b-tches bro. U single now. So many ig and aod dancers out here waiting on you bro. We throwing you a I just became single party,” wrote Bow Wow soon after Omarion announced his relationship was over.

Omarion was a recent guest on The Breakfast Club, and the Maybach Music Group representative spoke about his Face Off album collaborator’s words on Instagram.

“I thought that was kind of wack,” responded O. “He didn’t really have no regard or no respect for the position that I was in. Whatever I was going through, you’re supposed to support that.”

The “Post to Be” singer revealed he has not spoken to Bow Wow since that ordeal.

“That’s still the bro. We made a lot of money together. We got a lot of history together,” said Omarion. “It’s just the music means something different to me now.”

The ex-B2K member is preparing to release his fifth studio album, Reasons, later this year.

Birdman Promises New Music From Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, & Drake This Year

(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like new music from the trio is certainly on the way.

The NBA All-Star weekend was certainly action-packed as it took place down in New Orleans this year.

Since it took place in the NO, it was only right to have the Hot Boys/ Cash Money involved in the festivities.

Both Mannie Fresh and Birdman chatted with Billboard, revealing their plans for the rest of the year.

Their plans include their Apple Music documentary, ‘Before Anything’ that will chronicle Cash Money’s journey, life, and semi-success before their label deal.

“I thought it made more sense to put it out this year on our 20th anniversary. Anybody that been in this business and this industry for 20 years with the same company, it just don’t happen. We was honored, blessed and fortunate enough to be able to do it and I thought this would be the perfect time to do it. I remember the fame that come with the glory, all the numbers and the sales but the struggle, the obstacles, the situations, the sh-t that we been through — that would make a man,” said Birdman.

Birdman also gave some promising details and updates on forthcoming music from Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Drake.

He claims they are, “coming with their projects”. He also says he’s coming with first solo project in seven years, ‘Ms. Gladys’.

Birdman still claims that he is going to make it right with Wayne, and Weezy’s much- anticipated ‘Tha Carter V’, project is actually coming out this year too.

“You will get it this year. Me and Wayne will be aight. I’ma make that work. That’s my son and I love him, and we’ll make it happen,” said Birdman.

Would you like to see several collabs from Drake, Wayne, and Nicki in addition to their independent projects?

Rocko Fires Back At Future For Calling Him A “Con Artist”

(AllHipHop News) Rocko and Future are currently in a full-blown feud on social media.

The current conflict between the two Atlanta natives appears to stem from a lawsuit over revenues from Future’s association with Rocko’s A-1 Recordings.

Rocko addressed the issue on Instagram by offering support to the “Draco” rapper.

That was followed by Future claiming the label head is a “con artist.”

In another social media post, Rocko fired back, writing, “I wasn’t a con artist when I made sure you got a look in all my videos tho… ole camera shy n-gga.”

Seriously Bruh: What’s Lil Uzi Doing Here?

(AllHipHop Rumors) To say Hip-Hop has changed through the years, is an understatement. Still , everything changes. Anything else would be uncivilized. Lil Uzi Vert has people talking with his new dance. Check out his dance and let me know what you are thinking about this lil’ jig.

22 Savage Beats Murder Case? LOOKS LIKE A CELEBRATION!

(AllHipHop Rumors) The news section will certainly clear this up, but until then…rumor. The rapper known widely as 22 Savage has apparently beaten his murder case. Yep! A Jury has decided against indicting Young 22 on murder charges. Last year, ol’ boy known for trolling 21 Savage was wanted on murder charges. But, he is now such a happy camper, he’s posting pics with white kids to express his joy on beating the case! Dude is only like 20 years old. This is good news. Now, we’ll see if his rap career stands on its own two feet. He apparently rejoiced and said, “After waiting hours in that b#tch #godisgood #22gang.”

Look at lil duders in the front. LOL!

Don’t sleep though. He’s still beefing with 21 Savage.

Diddy: “About Those Billionaire Claims…”

(AllHipHop Rumors) I knew that Diddy wasn’t the first rap/Hip-Hop billionaire, but people kept wanting us to report on it. Well, the furor got all the way to Diddy himself. And, in the classiest way, he offered a retraction on IG, shouting out Jay Z and Dr. Dre.

“Hey guys I appreciate the congratulations but it’s a little bit premature I still have a lot of work to do. At the end of the day it’s not about the money it’s about the impact that you have on the world! Money doesn’t make you rich but it sure does pay the bills! Love to all my entrepreneurs and fellow hustlers out there. Keep Grinding and taking care your family’s. And of course keep God first above anything!”

Detroit Loves Dilla: They just do it a little differently.

(AllHipHop Editorial) February is a rough month in Detroit. Dark, drab, and you are more than likely to encounter sloppy, heavy, wet snow. It is not a city where a winter event easily draws tourism, our turn at the Super Bowl in 2006 was a snowy disaster. I haven’t lived in my hometown in eight years. But, I still like to visit at this time of year. It’s Dilla Month, after all. Efforts to celebrate James Yancey in Detroit have struggled, and celebration of him in our hometown has long been marred by infighting and inconsistency. This year, there was no snow, instead the Dillatroit 2 event this year was overbooked and underpromoted. In the early years after Jay Dee died, the event was small and intimate some years, then in large concert halls other years. One year, it moved to Miami.

2006 devastated the Detroit hip-hop scene. It was a scene that was still making good noise at the time. Eminem had made it incredibly hot, Slum Village was making good music. There were producers and rappers coming out regularly for years. Then the rug was pulled out when Dilla died in February and Proof died in April. The losses left the formerly close-knit scene and community reeling, and it still hasn’t completely recovered.

There were the hip-hop losses, then a great recession which led to the first bankruptcy of a major U.S. city. In 2008, the charming and well-loved Mayor of the City of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick-at age 38 and in his second-term, was indicted and convicted of RICO charges and sentenced to 28 years in the Feds. Twenty-Eight Years. Detroit has been through some s###.

It looks like it. It feels like it.

The neighborhoods are still struggling. Schools are struggling. Crime is high. People drive too damn fast and many illegally. (Ask about Detroit car insurance rates). And, yes, you could’ve bought a house for $500. But most of those houses are torn down now and prices of the rest are steadily improving. Detroit is organically shrinking. It is a city that went from a population of 2 million to a population of 700,000 in less than 20 years. There is more green space, and no lie, more little animals like rabbits and possums. It’s like Detroit is returning from a major metropolis to the smaller town it always believed it was on the inside.

It is improving.

There is a strong downtown. Little Caesar’s Pizza founder, and owner of the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers, Mike Illitch-who recently died, broke ground last spring on a new arena. The Detroit Pistons are moving downtown as well. Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert is snapping up downtown property. There is a renewed commitment by businesses, and citizens alike, and there is no lack of the one thing that Detroit has always had: Hope. The motto of the city is Speramus Meliora Resurgent Cineribus, “We hope for better days, it will arise from its ashes.” Like a phoenix, Detroit has burned and rebuilt itself numerous times since its founding in 1701 by a French fur trader whose last name was Cadillac. The city is in a rebirth phase. Detroit is coming back slowly, but in an organic and meaningful way.

The hip-hop scene is still producing national talent like Boldy James, and legacy artists like Danny Brown, Black Milk, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, Big Sean, Royce and posthumously Dilla himself are still making great music and money. There are also a multitude of other great rappers coming up, including almost a half-dozen dope female emcees. This is still Eminem’s hometown. Like the city itself, there is renewed dedication to (and interest in) Detroit hip-hop as a scene and community.

On Valentine’s Day, I went to Dilla’s Delights for the first time. The donut shop opened by Dilla’s Uncle Herm really is delightful. The shop sells vegan and regular donuts. The Fantastic Fritter was amazing. There was a lemon-filled one named after Aaliyah. Dilla’s photos and spirit grace the small store, and depending on when you come in you might find one of his daughters, Ty-Monae’ or JaMya, behind the counter. By my noon visit, they were nearly sold out and there was a light, but steady stream of people dropping by. I sat, and ate my fritter, and drank coffee. I could have sat there staring out at the downtown view all day. I took pictures of everything and talked for a long time with Glenn, the retail manager. Dilla’s Delights is a beautiful brick-and-mortar tribute to Dilla’s greatness (and his favorite snack food).

The store is in Harmonie Park, a historic neighborhood that is about to see exponential expansion and growth as it officially declares itself a hub of Detroit music. The new Detroit Institute for Music Education is walking distance away. The DIME offers full-time courses in Commercial Songwriting, Music Industry Studies, and Commercial Music Performance.

Dilla and Detroit had a rough relationship when he was alive. As much as he is loved around the world, he is still virtually unknown to the average Detroiter. But then, even Luke 4:24 says, “Truly I tell you no prophet is accepted in his hometown.” His music was never really supported on radio, he wasn’t talked about or appreciated except in small circles. So, big parties to celebrate him don’t turn out very well.

Yet, this year at Dilla Youth Day Detroit held inside the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, pre-teens played his music on musical instruments. Kids made t-shirts, and posters, and played around with production equipment and software. They are learning his music in school and after-school programs. His legacy is being rediscovered by a younger generation in Detroit. It is being preserved by his friends and peers, some better than others, here and around the world. It is being served across a counter by his own daughters in the form of the best apple fritter that I have ever had.

The legacy of J. Dilla will always have its roots in Detroit. The man and the place are forever entwined. Like the city, it is changing shape. It looks different. It feels different. It’s improving.

Parties celebrating the life and legacy of James “J. Dilla” Yancey are still taking place all over the world.

Tank Checks Ja Rule Over Popular Hashtag!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Tank said NOT TODAY!

In interesting news, singer Tank & rapper Ja Rule exchanged words on Instagram over a hashtag that is actually supposed to celebrate joy and excellence.

BET’s American Black Film Festival Honors was a star-studded event and of course many wanted to share previous moments from the behind the scenes on social media, especially the award show’s presenter, BET.

BET posted a photo of some of the cast of the New Edition movie, Maxwell, and Omari Hardwick with a caption that included a popular Chance The Rapper-inspired hashtag, #BlackBoyJoy.

It was all good until Ja Rule got offended, instead of him taking the time out to celebrate the black excellence in the photo.

Ja Rule addressed BET asking who was behind the hashtag as he felt that it wasn’t cool as it was very demeaning and goes all the way back to slavery and segregation. Ja Rule says no man should be called a boy as it’s very disrespectful.

Tank who also was one of the New Edition movie’s stars took time out to address Ja in the comments.

“When one Black man tears down another Black man for simply doing things a little different than what he would, that creates the divide. How in God’s name can you find something wrong with that? It’s not like you’ve been the beacon of hope for our community, so I think you should rethink your position. Let these young men live in the success of their hard work! Please!,” said Tank!

Tank felt that Ja should be reinforcing the positivity and not negatively creating a divide. What are your thoughts on the hashtag?

Childish Gambino Talks Creating Joint Project With Chance The Rapper (AUDIO)

(AllHipHop News) Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover and Chance The Rapper have been hinting about doing a collaborative project for a while.

During a 2016 Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session, Chance confirmed the joint album/mixtape does exist.

Then fans were even more curious about the two emcees joining forces after Chance posted a picture with Gambino on Instagram.

The caption for the photo read, “Hawaii then LA, back to work.”

Gambino was asked about the potential project with Chance while speaking with Real 92.3’s Big Boy.

“We definitely met up before. I don’t know if I’ll see him again now that he’s won a Grammy. We’ll see what happens,” joked Gambino. “We actually sat down in the studio and were talking for a little bit. We’re both busy, but I think when he has a moment, we’ve been sitting down working together. I think it’s about catching a vibe.”

The Stone Mountain, Georgia native added, “I just want to hang out with him. I don’t work with people over email anymore. I think it doesn’t make good work. We have to find a time to sit down together.”

Both Gambino and Chance had breakout years in 2016.

Glover won several awards for his FX series Atlanta, and he released the critically acclaimed “Awaken, My Love!” album.

He was also picked to play Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Star Wars film centered around Han Solo.

Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book mixtape became the first streaming-only project to win the Grammy Award for “Best Rap Album,” and the Chicago native took home the trophy for “Best New Artist.”

In addition, the Save Money collective member arguably had the rap verse of the year with his contribution to Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam.”

Nick Cannon Blasts ‘The National Enquirer’ For Report About Alleged “Nervous Breakdown” & Mariah Carey

(AllHipHop News) Nick Cannon is fighting back against the rumors.

The show business veteran blasted gossip magazine The National Enquirer on Instagram.

According to Cannon, the tabloid is set to publish an article that claims he is suffering from a nervous breakdown and his ex-wife Mariah Carey is considering to petition to get custody of their two children.

In a pre-emptive reaction to the yet-to-be-released story, the 36-year-old Wild ‘N Out host threatened to sue the  Enquirer.

Cannon wrote on IG:

MORE LIES!!! So the @enquirer wants to play around with my children. Only Evil operates in this manner. What is the purpose? Except to exemplify pure immoral wickedness. If you report these lies expect a slander and defamation lawsuit. Look everyone, see how the media is trying to break a King? It’s all good though, I’m a warrior! I was built for this! Me and my family, my mindset, and my spirit are all stronger than ever. I felt like releasing this so called “journalist” info to the public so you all can get at them, but instead I release nothing but positive energy into the Universe. No weapon formed against me shall prosper! I receive help through prayer and patience! #Blessed #Awakened

Last week, Page Six reported supposed insiders connected to Cannon were also concerned about “recent dramatic behavior” involving the actor/rapper/comedian.

These stories of alleged mental health problems involving Cannon began after he announced his departure from NBC’s America Got Talent.

The San Diego-raised entertainer stated he was leaving the talent competition TV show because of backlash from the network over an America Got Talent joke during his “Stand Up, Don’t Shoot” comedy special.

Jay Mizz Takes His Life To New Heights On “Leveled Up”

The Midwest rap renegade, Jay Mizz, managed to amalgamate the skills of classic Hip Hop with the bouncy, club oriented music of today while maintaining his integrity and realness. His subject matter does cover the harsh realities, but he goes out of his way to let his fans know that these things are to be avoided and not glorified. Jay Mizz accepts social responsibility and wishes to push the envelope when it comes to subject matter in Hip-Hop.

The track “Leveled Up” came about from Jay reflecting on good moments of one’s career such as getting the support of family, friends, and even the public, whether it be kind words, campaigning, accolades, or revenue…then the downfalls of life just hitting you out of nowhere. Jay speaks from the mindset of dealing with your heartbreaks, job losses, or losing out on something major in life. Instead of falling victim, Jay uses the song to chronicle one saying enough is enough, and it’s time to level up. The song is essentially an anthem for those who are ready to take whatever they are doing to a whole new progressive level! It’s for the innovators, the speakers of the youth, the motivators, the leaders of the free world!

“We will unite and bring this to a whole new level!” says Jay Mizz.

The 2017 American Black Film Festival Honors was certainly one for the books!

The star-studded event, presented by BET, took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

The very comedic and beautiful actress Regina Hall kept the audience thoroughly entertained with a number of funny jokes and hilarious monologues.

ABFF celebrates Black excellence and Black culture by honoring individuals with extraordinary achievement and individuals, movies, and television shows that have had a significant impact on American entertainment.

Actor and director Denzel Washington was honored with the “Hollywood Legacy Award,” musician and actress Queen Latifah with the “Entertainment Icon Award,” writer, producer and actress Issa Rae with the “Rising Star Award,” film director and producer F. Gary Gray with the “Excellence in the Arts Award” and actor, Terrence Howard with the “Excellence in the Arts Award.”

Those in attendance cheered with excitement each and every time a highlight reel of the the honoree’s accomplishments flashed on the screen. For most, it was moments of nostalgia as Denzel, Terrence, Queen Latifah, and F. Gary Gray have all had incredible longevity creating and or contributing to art, film, and performance staples in Black culture. Issa Rae was an inspiration to all as she served as a reminder that instead of waiting for your opportunity to come, you can go out and create it!

Viola Davis, Common, Pharrell Williams, Lee Daniels, Morris Chestnut, Omari Hardwick and Anika Noni Rose took the stage as presenters while Maxwell and Dionne Farris performed their hits “Sumthin’ Sumthin'” and “Hopeless” from the film “Love Jones,” which received the “Classic Cinema Award.”

Cecily Tyson took the stage to present Denzel Washington with his award, and Pharell Williams added his own magic to the evening as he presented Issa Rae with her honor. The cast of the New Edition Story biopic [Luke James, Keith Powers, Elijah Kelley], Jay Ellis, Kofi Siroboe, Nia Long, Larenz Tate, Alexandra Shipp, and many more were also in attendance.

The awards special was produced by ABFF Ventures founder Jeff Friday, Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones for de Passe Jones Entertainment, Jesse Collins for Jesse Collins Entertainment, and Connie Orlando, Stephen G. Hill and Debra Lee for BET Networks.

The Game Claps Back Over Fans’ Pedophile Claims!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Allegedly The Game has a new boo, who is an 18-year-old. We need more evidence than Game liking the little girl’s photos, but that didn’t stop the fans for trying to call out Game for his alleged “predatory” ways.

You know they say that Game likes em young. I can’t remember if people came to this conclusion before or after he was spotted f######## a teenage India Love in the park.

They say Game has a type with his type being barely legal. Game has since clapped back at all of these claims explaining that he’s against pedophilia, but he doesn’t like to date older women because all he can do with them is play bingo. An Instagram user inquired as to why Game couldn’t find any models his own age, to which Game replied by saying,

“@Quietstormv you don’t know me and you don’t know her to assume anything about either of us. & all of these weirdos on here throwing that “pedofile” and “molester” sh-t around need to check themselves. I ain’t never in my life had sexual relations with anyone under age & never will.”

Ummmm define older and younger in your own words Game? LOL. What are your thoughts?

Kanye West Gets Immortalized With Gold Life-Size Crucifixion Sculpture In Hollywood

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Kanye West has been immortalized thanks to a new giant Jesus sculpture in Los Angeles by a street artist ironically known as Plastic Jesus.

The art was unveiled today (February 22), at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Ave and emphasizes a giant Kanye nailed to a gold cross, with nails in his hands, a wreath on his head, along with some bling around his neck.

The sculpture, which is called “False Idol,” is the latest in a series of wild art pieces Plastic Jesus has been putting up since 2015.

In 2015, Plastic Jesus made a life-size figure of the Oscar snorting cocaine on all fours, in addition to doing a controversial graffiti piece of Lance Armstrong cycling with an IV bag.

“He’s a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him,” Plastic Jesus told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve seen it before with people like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. The same people who put him into a God-like place are the same yapping at his heels for a piece of flesh when something happens.”

Cool & Dre Working To Break UK Rapper A.M. Sniper With “Foreign Dreams”

Miami icons Cool & Dre and their label Epidemic Music are working with 29-year-old artist A.M. SNiPER who has been called “The Hybrid of the Year” in the U.K. where he’s a huge success.

No stranger to the charts, A.M SNiPER has performed and collaborated with superstars from both sides of the Atlantic such as Kanye West, 50 Cent, Memphis Bleek, Akon, Julian Marley, Juelz Santana, N.O.R.E, Sway, Mutya Buena, Curtis Young, Rick Ross, Lethal Bizzle, Sway, JME, Ghetts, Wiley and more.

“Foreign Dreams” features The Game and Dre3000.

Shying away from the usual classic style of Hip Hop videos, the team traveled around northern Nigeria to search and find a way to contact this specific tribe featured in the video – a tribe that had never listened to rap or hip-hop music before or speak any words of English.

Only one member was able to translate.

Curious, collaborative and motivated by the project and song, the tribe was incredible and the video bypasses trends and fashion – motivated for the art.

Gucci Mane Sits Talks Prison Stint With Rocker Marilyn Manson and Says Music Kept Him Sane

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Gucci Mane channeled his energy into his music and writing his memoir while incarcerated to “protect his sanity.”

The hip-hop star, real name Radric Davis, walked free from prison in May of 2016 after spending almost two years behind bars on weapons and drug charges.

During his prison stint, the 37-year-old released several albums and started writing his memoir.

In an upcoming interview with rocker Marilyn Manson for CR Men’s Book, Davis explains being creative helped him keep his mind clear.

“When I was locked up and they put me in the hole, this is what I was doing to keep my sanity,” he told Marilyn Manson. “This is how I was protecting myself.”

Gucci Mane is now gearing up to hit the road for his first tour and he will release his 11th album later this year.

The rapper has been pouring all of his focus into the trek and has a specific vision.

“I want to look like Liberace (on stage), just big diamonds, shining,” he says. “But I want the production to be like the (Flaming) Lips. I want the crowd to feel that sweat, like Hendrix.”

“I ain’t gonna lie, I think I could be a hell of a rock star,” he adds. “I’m a free spirit, I love having fun, I don’t give a f##k. Even the way I record, the way I perform, I’m unstructured. I just let the wind blow through me.”

Gucci Mane’s tour will kick-off this week and in October, he will tie the knot with fiance Keyshia Ka’oir.

The hip-hop star popped the question to Ka’oir in November during the Atlanta Hawks/New Orleans Pelicans basketball game at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

They have been dating since 2010.

Great Spirits: Cali Queen ill Camille Returns To Rap With Newfound Dopeness And Depth!

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/heirloom/id1207044201Heirloom : something of special value handed down from one generation to another

Ill Camille is an heirloom of Hip-Hop. First of all, those that know the California emcee realize her unique worth inherently. She’s oozes “special.” Secondly, her talents as a lyricist and writer are in the rich tradition of African griots of old that have recorded our stories through the generations. So, it is more than fitting that Camille’s new album is called Heirloom.

Heirloom is a heavy, lengthy gaze into the growth of a warrior woman, with a depth that’s rarely represented in rap these days. “I am a makeup of everybody that raised me. Everybody I been around. Everybody I been in a relationship with. Friendship. So the conversations…experiences. The time. All heirlooms,” ill Camille tells AllHipHop. “I put it in the music and created an heirloom of my own and realized we are an heirloom of our ancestors.” It is also the culminate of her many collaborations with the luminous likes of Kurupt, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Bobby Valentino, Damani Nkosi, Ty Dolla$ign, BJ the Chicago Kid and others like Robert Glasper.

When the album hits on March 06, 2017, it undoubtedly continues a renaissance rap music experienced just a couple years ago. We are talking evolution and honesty and patience with the likes of Camp Lo, Deion, Mmykk Shevy, TDE’s SiR, Damani and others contributing. It has been years since ill Camille blessed listeners with an audio saga. This is the culmination of the past, present and, believe it or not…the future.

AllHipHop: What can fans (old and new) get from this album?

iLL Camille: A sense of maturity. I haven’t put out an album since 2012, rightfully so. Needed to grow and go through things. I needed to play the back a little bit and get back to myself. I changed the title from illustrated b-sides, something DJ Battlecat prompted. He told me the name of my album doesn’t match the soundscape…undermines it. And I felt that was true, but was too afraid to make the change. For a whole two years I kept talking about “illustrated b-sides” and now I’ma change it? (laughs) I didn’t wanna look indecisive. But the title change was necessary. More fitting.

AllHipHop: Rap has changed a lot and maturity seems to be an afterthought. What do you think of “the game” these days.

iLL Camille: Rap seems to be the only genre that isn’t friendly to evolution…to the grown folks. And I don’t know why…I don’t have the answer for that but I can only do my part, as I grow, to reflect my growth in my music and show love to others that do. Well it was really a photoshoot. I wanted to recreate the “Great Day in Harlem” shoot right here in the neighborhood I grew up in for most of my life. My father’s side …View Park.  All of my family and friends…people that contributed directly or indirectly to this album and, my life in general, were there. My photographer homeboy captured this and I wasn’t fully aware that he did that. Pleasant surprise. Peace to Slaucienega.

AllHipHop: How was it working with Georgia Anne Muldrow on Home? And Damani was there when we first met in LA.

iLL Camille: Working with Georgia Anne is a blessing because she’s always her and she’s always rooting for me to be me. That’s where we connect. Damani too. They are different types of people, and the music just comes out naturally when working with them both. “Home” brought us three together.

AllHipHop: I know this is cliche – be we are all longing for other “feminine” voices in Hip-Hop. Does this matter to you any more?

iLL Camille: If there were only representation in music coming from women, I’d be wondering where the brothas are. That balance is necessary. Aint no yall without us and vice versa. Our stories matters. They are unique and our own. I got my own thing and I just wanna be able to say it in a way that makes sense to me, in my lifetime. It matters to communicate it through music. Yes.

AllHipHop: The album cover is pretty iconic, classic. Talk about that a bit.

iLL Camille: Thank you so much. My brotha in Brazil did it. We built a solid friendship over a 4 yr period. Guisoares aka “I Chase Ballons” found me after Snoop Dogg posted my video for “Live It Up” on his Underground Heat segment. He’s a visionary from Rio. We stayed in communication. We talked about our lives. Families. His new baby girl “Lizzy.” Our cultures. Politics. Real friendship. He is the reason I love Brazil and ain’t never been. So much meaning and ancestral connection in the cover. He can explain it better than me…but he created an heirloom of my own.

AllHipHop: Is Heirloom your “Miseducation”?

iLL Camille: “Miseducation” is still “Miseducation” to me and for me. It still has that effect on me. But no, this is my Heirloom. The first time I accepted my responsibility as a woman, and as an artist and did an album based on acknowledgement of that. I’m just starting.

AllHipHop: Boom. You mentioned in an interview that kids can listen to this. As a father, this is important. Why is that important to you?

iLL Camille: Believe it or not, it’s some kids that are more self-aware than adults. We spend our whole lives getting back to ourselves. It wasn’t until I got around some of the smartest, honest, intuitive kids, that I realized, I need to tap into my inner child again. That’s when I loved the music and me more. I thought more practically. Talked to God more. I put kids throughout this record. They taught me a lot, and I think I can teach them a lot. Let your daughter listen to it

AllHipHop: You know I will!
