RZA Addresses Martin Shkreli Owning Secret Wu-Tang Clan Album (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Many Wu-Tang Clan fans were not pleased to find out pharmaceutical CEO-turned-public villain Martin Shkreli was the one that purchased the legendary group’s one-of-a-kind, secret album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. Wu member RZA spoke with Bloomberg TV about Shkreli being the sole owner of the exclusive LP.

“He bought it. He can do what he wants,” said RZA. “If the greatest man in the world was the one who wanted to possess it, it would have been his objective. If my enemy came to an auction and said, ‘I want that picture of RZA just to throw darts at it.’ It’s being auctioned. So I could never discriminate who appreciates art.”

According to RZA, Shkreli expressed to him that he was a big fan of Wu-Tang prior to buying Once Upon A Time. Shkreli later blasted RZA as arrogant and stated the idea of selling one album backfired. The music producer/filmmaker chose not to return any insults.

RZA also revealed Shkreli does have the power to share the songs on the secret project, despite reports the album was banned from commercial use for 88 years.

“He could do something that could allow more people to hear the record,” added RZA. “If he concurs to that, then that would be something really good for art and really good for the Wu fans.”

Safaree Says "Can't Lie" Isn't About Nicki, Continues Stunt Gang Movement

For many people in the Hip-Hop world Safaree is known for his 12 year relationship with the famed female rapper Nicki Minaj. But, Safaree also has a buzz going with his Stunt Gang movement. In a recent interview with Billboard Safaree spoke about his new song called, “Can’t Lie,” stating that the song is more about different types of situations and him giving advice to others.Check out the song and the quotes below and decide for yourself:

When asked if the song was about personal experiences, Safaree said, “No, not necessarily. I just really put myself in the situation of like a guy or female who could have been in those types of situation and I’m sure everyone can relate to that type of situation where you feel like you didn’t tell someone the 100 percent truth and now you just wanna come out and tell them. “You know what? I did lie. I’m sorry about it. Let’s work past this and keep going.” I don’t know why but a lot of people come to me for like relationship advice like I’m Dr. Phil. I just feel like I mix some inner feelings with a combination of situations that people I actually know that have dealt with and gone through.”

“There was a situation where I was with some people and this guy met a girl. The girl he met was with one of his friends, so when they first met, he was cordial because he himself was with a girl [at the time]. It was kind of like a quadruple date with four couples and it was weird. They connected without even really saying much and they ended up falling for each other. It’s a real crazy situation. The guy ended up having to go to jail and doing a whole bunch of years. That left her in a vulnerable open space and he’s been disconnected.”

MOVIE REVIEW: “Out Of Darkness”

“Suddenly, everything you have been taught, everything you believe comes face to face with the truth…but in confronting this truth, it upsets the internal belief system upon which your life has functioned. Its when you have been raised in a certain religion, or a certain political ideology and someone brings you a morsel of truth that shock the hell out of your intellectual belief system. And the truth they gave you is so powerful that it disrupted and uprooted almost everything that you believed.” – Dr. Umar Johnson.

“Out of Darkness” is a beast of a documentary.

When I first heard of it, put on from a good friend, I thought it was a documentary rooted in how Hip-Hop was taken from the people that started it. I soon realized it was much more. “Out of Darkness” i far more expansive and Hip-Hop is merely a segment – a representative of what has happened to people of color for centuries.

“Out of Darkness” is a full length three-part documentary directed by Amadeuz Christ (Δ+), that – at great length – investigates the history of African people, the the vast contributions of people of color, and how so-called White Supremacy has permeated throughout the world. Furthermore, it plunges deep into eras of antiquity, the impact of Egypt (Kemet), the Nubian/Kushitic origins of Nile Valley Civilization, the Moors in Europe, and how racism continues to be a scourge of the modern day.

The doc features a gumbo of activists, professors, communal thought leaders and philosophers including narrator Prof. Kaba Kamene, Dr. Umar Johnson, Dr. Claud Anderson, Tim Wise, Prof. James Small, Dr. Joy DeGruy, Anthony Browder, Sabir Bey, Atlantis Browder, and Taj Tarik Bey. Their commentary is powerful. They do not hold back and nearly all notions are backed up by fact, even referring to mainstream references like the movie “1492: Conquest of Paradise.”

Hip-Hop as a movement is represented and contextualized as well. “What allowed whites to get a hold of your music was integration,” says Dr. Claud Anderson. “White folk were always attracted to Black folk, but we cause of segregation they couldn’t get to it.” They denounce the capitalism that serves as the backdrop and state – to varying degrees – that rap artists have betrayed their people. “The minute you let white people in Hip-Hop, they come to control it,” Johnson says. “Just look at jazz.” He does not let Black people off the hook, blaming us for giving away the art form. Ultimately, Anderson, Bey and Johnson charge that modern, commercial Hip-Hop was co-opted and now serves largely as a means to oppress people. “Out of Control” does an excellent job at re-connecting Hip-Hop to the griots, truth-tellers and artists before them.

“Out of Darkness” is an educational revolution that will make parents ashamed their kids are in “their” schools, but also give everybody a historical crash course in systemic racism. Institutional racism exists, but there has been a concerted effort to hide it and socialize all people that it does not exist. “Out of Darkness” contradicts almost everything you have learned and be raised in. It even challenge the notions of multiculturalism. “The new racisms wears a Brown face,” says Dr. Umar Johnson. Johnson says that people will try to calm the mind when exposed to the truth. He is likely correct.

The movie is one that should be seen by every person here in America, not just Black people. It is a must see for its educational qualities, its unbowed stance against racism and the unapologetic manner of speaking truth to power. “Each one of us is God having a human experience,” Prof. Kaba Kamene says.

Top 5 DOA: Jadakiss Names His Top New York MCs

(AllHipHop News) Recently, Jadakiss shared his list of New York MCs whom he considers to be the best. Before delivering the concise list, the “Y.O.” native contemplated why “Hip Hop is the only genre of music that gets semi-categorized.” To strengthen his point he then added, “Hip Hop is the only genre of music that they break it down by the coast or demographically — West Coast rap; East Coast rap; Down South rap.”

“If I was Kelly Clarkson right here you wouldn’t ask what’s your top five New York country artists,”  he told HipHopDX. Kiss then offered, “They don’t say West Coast country or down south R&B, every other genre just is what it is.” Later he gave this matter-of-fact reply,  “But if you must have [my] top five New York artists it would have to be Biggie, Nas, my brother Styles P, Jay Z and the dog DMX.”

What elements must an MC possess to be considered a Top 5 contender?

Rap & Radio: Rapsody Visits NPR For 'Tiny Desk Concert'

Rapsody continues to flex her lyrical prowess. Yesterday, (Jan. 5), the Southern spitter stopped by NPR to bless the mic with unabashed bars. Joined by The Storm Troopers and 9th Wonder, the Tiny Desk Concert was amplified by her incredible creativity. “Hard To Choose,” “The Man,” and “Godzilla” from the critically-hailed Beauty And The Beast, were delivered to a receptive Howard University audience.

Building upon consistent growth, last year the established MC enriched Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. The Good Kid and Rap came together to create “Complexion.” Snoop was the only other MC featured on that heavily lauded project. The North Carolina narrator is already showing 2016 how nice she is.

Is lyricism slowly creeping back into mainstream Hip-Hop?

Purrp was once closely associated with A$AP Rocky, but SGP’s Raider Klan and Rocky’s A$AP Mob became involved in a feud. It appeared the beef was over in 2014 when Purrp and A$AP Yams reportedly spoke and settled the issues between the two camps.

“White people who are watching, Google Jane Elliott. She has an experiment called the [“Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes” exercise]. I encourage you just to simply watch that. It will actually grow you,” said Mike after Colbert asked if the white community becoming aware of the police killings around the country changed the national dialogue.

The Run The Jewels member went on to add these issues have been talked about for over five decades, so the systemic problems facing black people in America should not be a surprise to anyone at this point. Mike then spoke about how he goes to colleges and explains to the white students why they need to help a child from a different ethnicity attend college.

“Teach them the path you were taught to help them become a successful human being,” offered Mike. “What you’re going to get out of that experience is another human being that’s taking full advantage of an educational system that can help them in their community. But more than that, it grows you as a human being to have empathy for someone that doesn’t look like you, who’s culturally not from your background.”
