A Kendrick Lamar Insider Reveals Hidden Messages In His 2016 Grammy Performance

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar further stamped his name as one of the leading voices in Hip Hop with his show-stealing performance at this year’s Grammy awards. The Top Dawg Entertainment emcee’s presentation was an artistic statement about prison reform, police brutality, and black pride. But was there more secret gems to the “Alright” rhymer’s set?

Billboard spoke with Kendrick’s friend and stylist Dianne Garcia about the Grammy night performance. The Los Angeles native addressed how involved K. Dot was in the creative process.

“He was involved in the sense that he knew exactly what he wanted. He showed me a photo of the prisoners and was like ‘This is my inspiration’. There were these guys walking in a chain gang and he said ‘I want them to look like this,'” said Garcia. “And I knew that he wanted the African guys to glow in the dark because they were going to go into a sequence where everything was going to be dark and they were going be lit with UV lights.”

The African themed portion of the performance featuring body paint was inspired by Maasai warriors. The Nilotic ethnic group inhabits Kenya and Tanzania. Another African culture served as a reference for the female dancers as well.

“You can’t really see it onstage but the girls, the dancers, they have red paint painted all over their body and that’s inspired specifically by the Himba tribe in Northern Namibia. They wear this red paint that’s supposed to represent the color of the earth and the blood,” explained Garcia. “And we picked the Himba tribe basically because [they are] really strong women who do all the labor work while taking care of their own homes and all this stuff while the men are out herding cattle and doing politics.”

As for the prisoner part of the set, Lamar and Garcia embedded layers of symbolism into the outfits worn by the dancers. TDE was written on the back of each performer in reflective 3M Paint. In addition, the inmates’ prison numbers represented Nat Turner’s famous slave revolt which took place August 21-23, 1831 in Southampton County, Virginia.

Greg Kading Speaks On His ‘Murder Rap’ Documentary About The Murders Of 2Pac & The Notorious B.I.G. (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Former LAPD detective Greg Kading is at the center of a media firestorm, because a recent documentary based on his book Murder Rap alleges Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs was involved in the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur. The film claims Puffy paid a Crip gang member named Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis $1 million to kill 2Pac and Death Row head Suge Knight.

Kading also investigated the 1997 killing of Bad Boy recording artist Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace. The former LAPD detective spoke to Hot 97 about his Murder Rap doc which presents information about the deaths of the two Hip Hop icons.

“This film is different because we’re not proposing a theory. Everything that precedes this was theoretical, was speculation, what could have happened. We’re not coming at it from that approach. We’re telling you definitively this is what took place with these murders,” explains Kading. “All of the empirical evidence, all of the facts lead you to draw this one and only conclusion. We’re not competing against theories. We’re claiming to know the truth.”

In addition, Kading stated the reason a prosecution has not been brought against Puffy is because many of the people involved in the murder conspiracies have been killed, including the respective two alleged shooters of Pac and Big. Kading believes there will never be anyone convicted of either crime.

Another former LAPD officer backed up Kading’s assertions that the deaths of Pac and Biggie were the result of a gang war involving rival labels Death Row (owned by Knight) and Bad Boy (owned by Combs). Reggie Wright – who was also a bodyguard for 2Pac –  told AllHipHop.com in 2014, “Almost everything that pretty much came out in the investigation and the book Murder Rap by Greg Kading I believe is 98-99% accurate.”

(AllHipHop News) Yesterday (Feb. 21), marked the 51st anniversary of Malcolm X’s assassination. Coincidentally, the Nation of Islam may come to the rescue for Beyoncé. The varying perspectives range from praise to protest. Veteran Hip-Hop cultural critics like Sway Calloway have lauded B’s stance. Rich Homie Quan Gets Roasted Over 17 Minute Freestyle

Photo via Rich Homie Quan’s Instagram

FREESTYLING: It ain’t for everybody! Rich Homie Quan has been getting relentlessly roasted for one of his recent freestyles on Tim Westwood’s show. He plays entirely too much. He took a shot a rapping over Bryson Tiller’s “Exchange” instrumental which contains a sample of a slowed version of the ’90s classic “Swing My Way” by KP & Envyi. He also attempted to freestyle over a few other well known instrumentals. After getting clowned, RHQ said,

“It was just a freestyle u idiots. A 17 minute one at that. Yo average artist gone spit a written verse social media is the devil, but it comes with the territory. Either you wit me or not. I really don’t give a fuxk. But wen March come, don’t be dixk riding #StayTuned.”

Do you think RHQ will deliver some new heat in March? In all fairness, how do you think RHQ’s freestyle was?

Young Thug Wants To Know Why He Isn’t On Tour With Lil’ Wayne

Photo via Young Thug’s Instagram

It seems like Young Thug wanted to be on tour with his favorite rapper Lil’ Wayne. Thug seems so disappointed that he won’t be going on tour with Wayne on Wayne’s ‘Dedication’ tour. Thugger’s obssession with Lil’ Wayne is unhealthy. It’s like some sick twisted love story fit for Lifetime or the ID network. Thug did say that Lil’ Wayne is still the G.O.A.T. though. Thug knows he isn’t in Wayne’s league!

Photo via Karrueche’s Instagram

Chris Brown promised to be releasing some new true R&B records. “Back To Sleep” was well received, and now Breezy has released 1 of 3 promised remixes to the hit. The first remix features Chris, Usher, and Zayn singing to the ladies. Breezy wasted no time letting you all know that he still isn’t over Karrueche, and he wants that old thing back. Lawd we wonder who was better Karrueche or RiRi. Karrueche must have had that good if Brown is still singing about wanting to f*ck her back to sleep. Brown sings,

“Where you been, it’s been a year, baby I ain’t seen you. You know I miss you. You want me to say your name girl, KARRUECHE!!”
