Eminem Fans Think “The Death Of Slim Shady” Deluxe Is Coming Featuring 50 Cent & More

Eminem released his twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), on Friday (July 12). Features on the 19-track project included Big Sean, Babytron and J.I.D. But some fans are wondering why 50 Cent—who was included in the album’s video teaser—and Dr. Dre weren’t rapping alongside Marshall Mathers.

While it’s true Dr. Dre contributed production work to the album, Dre’s lyrical absences has fans thinking a deluxe version of The Death of Slim Shady is right around the corner.

As one person asked, “Wasn’t 50 Cent and Dre confirmed they had features on Eminem’s album during the Jimmy Kimmel appearance? @Eminem what you’re up to? Side B all over again [thinking face emoji].” The same fan also questioned why Eminem’s fellow Detroit native and longtime friend Royce Da 5’9 wasn’t involved either.

“pretty sure 50 said they got something coming and they were talking about Em’s album at that point, not sure about Dre though, maybe he was talking about production,” the post continued. “Also no Royce on the album is wild, I feel like they worked on several songs in the last few months.”

Dr. Dre, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg were guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March, right after Dr. Dre received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During the interview, they were asked about the possibility of a new Eminem album. Dr. Dre confirmed Em was working on The Death of Slim Shady project and that he had production on the album—but nothing more.

As for 50 Cent, it’s possible he was just plucked to star in the promo for the project. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Eminem did drop a deluxe version of The Death of Slim Shady. He did a deluxe for Music to Be Murdered By shortly after its 2020 release.

Yo Gotti Gets Dragged Into Angela Simmons Oreo Cookie Bathgate Over ESPYS Outfit

Yo Gotti is being roped into his girlfriend Angela Simmons’ Oreo cookie “bathgate” saga following his appearance at the ESPYS award show.

In case you missed it, Simmons was recently targeted by trolls on social media after debuting images and clips of herself, seemingly bare-skinned and submerged in a bathtub of Oreos, in promotion of her cake mix product. In light of the incident trending across multiple platforms, the CMG Music mogul was inadvertently dragged into the saga after images of his outfit from The ESPYS award show began going viral on social media.

Primarily, it appears as though users who initially reacted to Yo Gotti’s fit, which consisted of an all-black suit highlighted by a military-style jacket, made remarks about his perceived weight gain.

“Has Yo Gotti always been this big? I swear bro gained like 50 pounds,” a Twitter (X) user reacted, while another responded, “Yo gotti done got sum thick.”

Another drove of users went off on the outfit itself, picking apart the style of the asymmetrical jacket by referencing professions that require individuals to wear uniforms with similar silhouettes.

“Yo gotti looking like he finna make some fried rice with that damn outfit on,” a user wrote in a tweet.

Another user added, comparing the “Rake It Up” rapper to the Supreme Leader of North Korea. “Yo gotti jong un He out here looking like Kim Jing un,” the user wrote.

Overall, though, the majority of the discourse surrounding Yo Gotti’s outfit appeared to be from users referencing his relationship with Simmons, and the aforementioned Oreo cookie incident.

“Angela Simmons over there feeding the FAWK out of yo gotti, he big af,” a user tweeted.

Another user added, “LMFAO they said yo gotti on the red carpet lookin like he just ate all the Oreos outta Angela tub.”

One user appeared to go against the grain, highlighting that Yo Gotti’s alleged weight gain could be the sign of a healthy relationship between he and Simmons.

“I think it’s funny that yo gotti put on the happy weight & Angela still been in the gym giving body,” the user wrote.

50 Cent Reacts To Trump Assassination Attempt As President Biden Suspends Ads

50 Cent and President Joe Biden has weighed in on the assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump on Saturday (July 13).

Donald Trump was rushed off stage during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after loud bangs were heard, and he fell to the ground, prompting immediate intervention from the Secret Service.

The incident occurred Saturday night, just minutes into Trump’s speech.

Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded Trump, guiding him to the ground before whisking him off stage and into an armored vehicle.

Photos showed blood on Trump’s ear as he was led away, though the extent of his injuries remains unclear.

Multiple witnesses said they saw the shooter firing from a nearby roof. The unidentified gunman was killed and so was a Trump supporter.

50 Cent took to Instagram to sympathize with Trump in a series of posts that leave no doubt about who the rap star is supporting.

“I know the vibes we are all in trouble now,” 50 Cent said, showing the viral photo of Trump with his fist raised amid the chaos.

Elena Treen, a reporter on the scene, told CNN of the chaotic moments following the noises.

“At first, I thought it was fireworks,” Treen said. “Everyone started screaming and Secret Service agents were on the ground, telling people to get down and move.”

The rally was intended to be a significant event leading up to the Republican convention.

President Biden has issued a statement from his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

“I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania,” Biden wrote. “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

President Biden also revealed he was suspending all negative campaign ads about the shooting as well. Biden’s campaign was ripped on social media, where many people blamed him for today’s violence.

“Your violent rhetoric caused this Joe Biden. RESIGN,” one user said to President Biden, while another added, “You incited this by saying that Trump and his supporters would end democracy. You have blood on your hands. Resign in disgrace.”

Meanwhile, others are accusing Trump’s team of staging the entire thing for sympathy votes in the upcoming election.

Trump’s campaign team has yet to release a detailed statement on his condition or the nature of the incident.

Donald Trump Shooting: Foes Angry As “They Missed” Trends Despite Two Casualties

Former President Donald Trump was shot at during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, causing chaos and leading to the former president being swiftly escorted off the stage.

The incident occurred during a speech in which Donald Trump addressed his supporters about the nation’s current state.

The rally, which was attended by a large crowd, quickly descended into panic as the sound of gunfire echoed through the venue.

Security personnel responded immediately, ushering Trump to safety and ensuring the crowd was moved to secure areas.

Two people are confirmed dead: the shooter and an audience member.

Pictures of Donald Trump clutching his bloody ear along with a raised fist were captured as the president was whisked away by Secret Service agents.

Reports indicate that the shooter was quickly subdued, and there were no immediate reports of casualties among the attendees.

However, Trump’s security team’s quick reaction was crucial in preventing any potential harm to the former president. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Social media erupted with various opinions almost immediately after the incident occurred – with many people wondering how the shooter missed.

“False flag. The shooter was one of Trump’s own guys,” one user on Twitter wrote, while another said, “That shooting so f###### staged dawg they clipped Trump’s ear with a damn rubber bullet now this n#### gon act like he 50 Cent in 2003 omfg he just won the election.”

The hashtag #staged started trending on X.com, with many people saying the entire shooting was set up by Trump’s team.

Another hashtag, #theymissed popped up as well, with messages from Trump’s supporters and his haters.

“If you want to see how evil democrats are, search ‘too bad they missed’ No hyperbole. The Left is evil,” one user posted and another said “Liberal accounts are celebrating the assassination attempt and saying they’re sad the shooter missed…This is what we’re up against.”

Candace Owens Reacts To “Death Of Slim Shady” Disses: “Eminem Is Obviously A Gay Man”

Candace Owens is firing back at Eminem after he dissed her on his new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)

On Friday (July 12), the controversial conservative pundit went live on her YouTube channel for the first time ever to respond to Eminem just hours after he dropped the new album.

“Eminem is obviously a gay man,” Owens began. “It’s very sad that Eminem cleaned out his closet but never came out of his closet,” referencing the song from his 2022 album The Eminem Show

She went on to read some of Em’s “Lucifer” lyrics that refer to Candace Owens as “this MAGA dirtbag in a skirt.” He also gives her a few nicknames, including “Klandace” and “Grand Wizard,” among others.

“And Candace O, I ain’t mad at her,” Owens read. “I ain’t gon’ throw the fact b#### forgot she was Black back at her, laugh at her like them crackers she’s backin’ after her back is turned.”

“I would like to again remind people that he in fact is a struggling internally gay man,” Owens continued. “He’s actually recycling things that Black women have said about me on the internet.”

Elsewhere on “Lucifer,” Eminem drags Candace Owens for her far-right conservative ideologies.

“In a cute MAGA hat with her brand-new White Lives Matter shirt (Haha, nope)/Or say this MAGA dirtbag in a skirt/Just opened the biggest can of worms on the whole planet Earth,” he raps.  Em also calls Owens out on “Bad One,” claiming “she turned her back on her own race.”

On her livestream, Owens branded the Detroit rap icon an “out-of-touch elitist.” She also called him “the white rapper that we all used to listen to when we were prepubescent and we wanted to feel edgy,” before suggesting he should retire.

This wasn’t the first time Candace Owens has questioned Eminem’s sexuality. She blasted Em after he sent Vivek Ramaswamy a cease-and-desist letter to block him from using his music on the campaign trail.

Donald Trump Reportedly Shot During Presidential Rally In Alleged Assassination Attempt

Donald Trump was reportedly shot in the ear on Saturday (July 13) during a presidential rally in Pennsylvania. Some people are calling it an “assassination attempt.”

According to MSNBC, Trump was escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents and into his motorcade just minutes into his rally in Butler after a series of gun shots. Trump’s ear appeared to be bleeding heavily as he was rushed away.

At the time of the incident, Trump appeared to fall to the ground as he was giving a speech. He was quickly surrounded by agents and stayed down for around a minute. He then jumped to his feet and pumped his fist in the air and shouted “fight” before being driven away from the scene. Members of the Secret Service are kicking out the press and declaring it a crime scene.

The crowd was immediately cleared out of the seated area of the rally, and the police put up caution tape over a section of the left side of the bleachers as they try to determine what happened. Rallygoers said they saw the military chase out someone on the lefthand side of the bleachers. A medical helicopter arrived and headed south, likely to the medical center in Pittsburgh.

The Team Trump Twitter account, citing Trump’s spokesman Steven Cheung, wrote, “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.”

President Joe Biden said he wasn’t briefed on the reported shooting, speaking to reporters as he walked out of church in Delaware.

This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for further developments.

Kim Kardashian Shows Off Graphic Finger Injury In New Episode Of “The Kardashians”

Kim Kardashian has disclosed an excruciating injury she sustained, describing the pain as surpassing that of childbirth.

Fans will get a glimpse into her ordeal in an upcoming episode of Hulu and Disney+’s “The Kardashians.”

In the episode shows Kardashian having her injury examined by a doctor who, to her astonishment, comments, “Oh, it looks great.”

Viewers were puzzled when Kardashian was seen with heavy bandages on two of her fingers in February.

Unraveling the mystery, the latest footage reveals that she had sliced the tips off those fingers, leaving bloodied stumps behind.

Expressing her disbelief, an alarmed Kardashian responds to the doctor’s comment with, “You think that looks great?”

In a candid, confessional-style clip, Kardashian reveals the severity of her injury.

“The, like, tip broke off. It was like, more painful than childbirth,” Kim Kardashian said.

Kardashian’s journey as a mother has not been without challenges.

She shares her four children—North, 11, Saint, 8, Chicago, 6, and Psalm, 5—with ex-husband Kanye West.

Kim Kardashian gave birth to North and Saint but turned to surrogacy for Chicago and Psalm due to health complications.

In a sentimental reflection shared in a 2019 video for her Skims brand, she explained, “I’m so thankful for my beautiful kids, no matter how they came to me—they came to me. I’m so thankful for surrogates… I would have gone through the same pain and back for the result of having my babies. It was all worth it.”

Foolio’s Instagram Account Continues Taunting Fans Weeks After Death: “I’ll Shock The World”

Either someone close to Foolio is sick in the head or his Instagram page has been hacked. Weeks after the Florida rapper was gunned down outside of a Tampa Holiday Inn, his social media account remains active.

On Friday (July 12), a message that read “I’m still here…guess might have to go IG LIVE SOON” appeared in Foolio’s Instagram Stories. The next post noted Foolio’s monthly Spotify listeners had increased by 600,000 since his death. The caption read, “I’m happy during this experience ppl are tappin in, but I got a question. Who dead?” The final post was Foolio talking and encouraging fans to click on a link to his music.

In a previous post, someone pretending to be Foolio also vowed, “Just know I’m still here. Once the time is allowed I’ll shock the world. U can’t kill a Demi God.”

The bizarre activity has been ongoing since Foolio’s murder on June 23, which just happened to be his 26th birthday. People were quick to point out his friends and family just hosted his funeral in his hometown of Jacksonville, where mourners sang along to Foolio’s Yungeen Ace diss track, “When I See You.”

Yungeen Ace, Foolio and their respective gangs, Ace’s Top Killers (ATK) and Kill Them All (KTA), have been feuding since roughly 2015. At least seven Jacksonville rappers have been killed, and both Yungeen Ace and Foolio were shot at various times during the war.

Yungeen Ace and three others—including his brother Trevon Bullard—were celebrating a birthday in June 2018, when someone opened fire on their car. Bullard and two others were killed, including Ace’s brother, while the rapper managed to survive after being shot eight times. In 2021, Foolio was grazed by a bullet and targeted in another shooting last year. He was hit in the foot and, in fact, was still in a walking boot in recent Instagram photos.

Foolio’s Instagram account has been taunting Yungeen Ace, continuing their contentious and fatal feud. On June 28, Yungeen Ace dropped a new song and video for “Game Over” on his YouTube channel in which he (once again) seems to be dissing Foolio.

Yungeen Ace plugged the video and song on Instagram and someone using Foolio’s account instantly labeled it “trash,” although the comment has since been deleted. Yungeen Ace replied, “You still f###### with me dude? I love you 4EVA.”

Young Thug Trial: Former Judicial Chair Calls It “A Dumpster Fire”

Judge Rachel Krause refused to recuse herself from a legal dispute over Judge Ural Glanville, the judge overseeing Young Thug’s RICO trial, in a July 9 court order. Defense lawyers sought Glanville’s recusal due to a controversial meeting between the judge, prosecutors and a key witness in Young Thug’s trial.

Krause was tasked with deciding whether Glanville must step down from the case. Young Thug and his co-defendants questioned her impartiality. Defense attorneys filed a motion requesting Krause’s recusal, citing Glanville’s $2,000 donation to Krause’s re-election campaign. Krause denied any conflict of interest.

“The only consideration for the Court is whether Judge Glanville’s campaign donation to this Court’s re-election campaign warrants recusal,” Krause wrote. “The Georgia Supreme Court has held that the mere fact of a campaign contribution to a judge — even from a party to the case — does not warrant recusal where the contribution was not exceptionally large … This Court does not relish the task to which it has been assigned, but ‘[i]t is as much the duty of a judge not to grant the motion to recuse when the motion is legally insufficient as it is to recuse when the motion is meritorious.’”

Georgia’s former Judicial Qualifications Commission chair Lester Tate criticized Krause’s decision.

“Given the dumpster fire the YSL trial has become, I’m really shocked she has not recused herself,” Tate told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Even if the letter of the law allows it, to benefit the judiciary and protect its image to the public, the better practice would be for her to voluntarily recuse.”

Chuck Boring, another former chair of the JQC, disagreed.

“No judge would want to be put in this position and have to decide this sticky issue,” Boring noted. “However, it is her job and it appears she is not taking the easy way out and just recusing when legally it is not necessitated.”

Young Thug’s trial is on hold until Krause – or another judge – decides if Glanville must recuse himself. It is already the longest trial in Georgia history.

Amber Rose Feels “Protected” By Donald Trump As Conservatives Question Her RNC Gig

Amber Rose explained her support of Donald Trump after getting invited to speak at the 2024 Republican National Convention. Rose appeared on the former president’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump’s show The Right View to defend endorsing the convicted felon.

“Donald Trump is the epitome of an alpha male, right?” Rose said. “He’s there to protect, provide, make sure the citizens of the U.S. are in a good economy, protecting us. I feel protected by Donald Trump. That’s why I wanted to come out and publicly endorse him because I just feel safe.”

Rose unmasked herself as a Trump supporter in May. Critics called the SlutWalk organizer a hypocrite and questioned if Trump’s campaign paid her. She denied receiving any payment.

“I was just as ill-informed and brainwashed as you all are in these comments,” she wrote on Instagram. “I didn’t and don’t get paid for s###…. Y’all love to jump to conclusions. I’m just happy to be on the right side of history.”

Anti-Trump conservatives were outraged by Republicans inviting Rose to the RNC. Republicans Against Trump and The Lincoln Project called out the RNC on social media.

“George W. Bush, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Liz Cheney, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis weren’t invited to speak at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next week,” Republicans Against Trump wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “But no worries. Rapper and model Amber Rose will give a speech.”

The Lincoln Project added, “Fake elector delegates. Sponsored by Project 2025. Amber Rose and Kyle Rittenhouse as speakers. This is what the Republican Party has become.”

Trump will officially accept his nomination as the Republican candidate for president at the RNC. The convention will be held in Milwaukee on July 15-18. Rose will be one of the many speakers at the event.

Remy Ma Roasted Over Lyrics On Fat Joe Single: “Why Would She Start The Song Off Like That?”

Remy Ma served six years in prison after being convicted of assault, illegal weapon possession and attempted coercion in connection to the 2007 shooting of Makeda Barnes-Joseph.

So when Fat Joe’s new single, “Outta Control” featuring Remy Ma arrived earlier this week, she quickly became a trending Twitter (X) topic for her questionable bars.

“They say I shot my friend over a band, AND?/Imagine what I’ll do to a b*tch I can’t stand,” she raps.

Immediately, people were wondering if she even thought about what she way saying. As one person asked, “Why would Remy Ma start the song off like that?” Another added, “Remy Ma deadass said ‘I shot my friend over a band… and?!’ Sis that’s not the flex you think it is wtf. It’s giving broke.” One even compared her to Sexyy Red, saying, “If you ask me Remy Ma is a worst role model than Sexyy Red. Do your own Googles iykyk.”

Remy Ma initially gained fame in the early 2000s as a member of the Terror Squad led by Fat Joe. Her notable collaborations with Fat Joe include “Lean Back” and “All the Way Up.” In 2008, Remy Ma faced a significant turning point in her life and career when she was convicted of assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion. The charges stemmed from a 2007 incident where Remy Ma was accused of shooting a former friend outside a Manhattan nightclub over $3,000.

During her six years behind bars, she married fellow rapper Papoose, who frequently advocated for her release. Upon her early release in 2014, Remy Ma returned to rap, determined to rebuild her career and life. Her comeback was marked by the success of “All the Way Up.”

But in recent years, Remy Ma has faced several other challenges, including her split with Papoose and trouble with her son, Jayson Scott. On June 18, police arrested Scott and another man for a 2021 murder in New York. Cops charged Scott and Richard Swygert with first-degree murder for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting of Darius Guillebeaux. The pair is also facing weapon possession and reckless endangerment charges, while Scott was given an additional charge of second-degree murder. Police are reportedly investigating the possibility that it was a murder-for-hire plot.

Remy Ma spoke out following her son’s arrest saying, “We stand by Jayson’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove Jayson’s innocence.”

42 Dugg Told Yo Gotti GloRilla & Sexyy Red Should Join Forces Like Drake & Future Did In 2015

Yo Gotti’s CMG artist 42 Dugg could end up being the reason we get a significant collaboration between Sexyy Red and GloRilla.

During his recent interview with the Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM, Dugg spoke on a flurry of topics including his incident with Offset, why the new generation of Detroit artists and music fans may not identify with Eminem, and of course the new music he’s been working on since being released from prison.

As he navigated the myriad of talking points thrown at him, Dugg took a second to explain why he believes his labelmate GloRilla and Sexyy Red need to join forces.

“But I’m like, man, what they should do is how the dudes do,” Dugg said.

“Like, Sexyy [Red] need to go make a mix table with GloRilla. You know what I’m saying?” he said.

42 Dugg backed his theory up by remarking on Drake and Future’s 2015 mixtape What A Time To Be Alive (WATTBA), revealing he’s even petitioned Yo Gotti to help make it happen while both artists have the momentum trending in the right direction.

“They need to uhh, I was telling Gotti they need to do it while they can do it,” he said. “You know what I’m saying?”

42 Dugg concluded by suggesting that GloRilla and Sexyy need to create a moment like Drake and Future did with their project that to truly assert their dominance among their competitors in mainstream rap.

“Like how Drake did deal with Future? I don’t know if they think like that, but that’s what I was like. Like, that’s how you really put your foot on this s##t.”

A post shared by AllHipHop (@allhiphopcom)

It goes without saying that there is likely some bias in Dugg’s suggestion, given that he and GloRilla are label mates. However, Dugg recently collaborated with Sexyy for their single “N.P.O” so it’s obvious he has a vivid idea of the St. Louis rapper’s creative process and consistency from first-hand experience.

On the other hand, Drake and Future’s collaborative mixtape, What a Time to Be Alive, achieved significant commercial success and broke numerous records upon release.

The mixtape debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making it Drake’s second number-one album of 2015 and Future’s first. It sold 375,000 copies in its first week, including streams, and was certified platinum by the RIAA within a year of its release. It would be hard to generate numbers like this now, but GloRilla and Sexyy Red could sure give it a try, and we’re sure fans and listeners wouldn’t be mad at it.

“My P.O. say the charges terminated,” Boosie declared as his guests whooped and cheered. “And I can cut my ankle monitor off.”

Boosie’s legal issues stemmed from a traffic stop in May 2023 when police found two loaded handguns in his car. Cops charged him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. A judge dismissed the case weeks later, but Federal agents nabbed him moments after the dismissal. The feds also charged him with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Desiigner Appears To Blame Veganism For Indecent Exposure Incident On Plane

Desiigner has opened up about his physical and mental state during his indecent exposure incident on an international flight in 2023.

During his recent interview, the “Panda” hitmaker addressed in detail the incident that occurred last year in April after he was arrested for exposing his genitals and a flight from Tokyo to Minneapolis. While recounting the events that unfolded while he was on the flight, Desiigner explained that he believes his diet, coupled with a drastic change in his medication regimen were partially to blame for the incident.

“I didn’t know what I was doing,” Desiigner said.

“Yeah, didn’t know what I was doing. I was fully tweaked out of my mind. This is when I was vegan. I didn’t have enough sugars and and s##t. Stuff like that. Yeah. So it was like, I was kind like out of my body. It was a OBE [Outer Body] experience, word. It really wasn’t who my character was. And it’s just like word bro. I was on medication, I took medication and Word and just went to sleep on the plane.”

Desiigner, whose real name is Sidney Selby, was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. His sentence included 120 hours of community service and an order to undergo a psychological, psychiatric or mental health evaluation.

As a result of taking his plea deal, Desiigner avoided jail time, which could’ve landed him behind bars for up to 90 days. Though he has managed to deal with the legal repercussions of his actions, Desiigner went on to explain that he’s focused on rebuilding his image as a result of his worries people may label him a predator.

“I’m just like, yo, just thinking like, damn, I hope nobody thinks I’m, I’m a pervert or anything,” he said. “That’s not what I’m all about. You feel me? I’m all about just love and just keeping things going and stuff.”

Authorities said Desiigner exposed his genitals multiple times and masturbated at least once on a flight from Tokyo to Minneapolis. As a result, he was charged with indecent exposure on an aircraft. Desiigner previously made a statement on the matter on his personal Instagram account following the occurrence.

“For the past few months I have not been OK, and I have been struggling to come to terms with what is going on,” he wrote on Instagram Stories. “While overseas for a concert I performed at, I had to be admitted into a hospital, I was not thinking clearly.

“They gave me meds, and I had to hop on a plane home. I am ashamed of my actions that happened on that plane. I landed back to the States and am admitting myself in a facility to help me.”

Multi-Hyphenate Social Impact MC Nikki Lynette Rises Out Of Rap To Make Moves With Spike Lee And Jamie Foxx

Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur catches up with an old friend to discover how much things have truly changed with Nikki Lynette.

You’ll never forget Nikki Lynette. She’s such an interesting, weird, and genuine person that any contact with her becomes a permanent instant impression. We became friends a little over 13 years ago in a period when there was an entirely new community emerging within Hip-Hop. Nikki, a native of Chicago, was one of those active participants. Very much counterculture, even within Hip-Hop, she stood out. After that period, often regarded as “The Blog Era,” things changed.

Nikki Lynette’s film “Happy Songs About Unhappy Things” recently had a sold-out screening in Los Angeles in front of a decidedly Hollywood crowd. Nikki reveals the movie’s premise and how a mental health crisis had her face to face with death in an attempted suicide after the mixtapes, parties, and events subsided. A multifaceted performer, writer, and visual artist, Nikki has fought on numerous fronts for equity and inclusion, but now finds real purpose as a mental health advocate. Transitioning from an indie artist to a playwright and film director, she has “Get Out Alive” and “Happy Songs About Unhappy Things,” both of which deal with depression and mental health. Nikki serves on the board of directors for the Chicago chapter of NAMI, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. Her work is being developed with the support of the Tony Award-winning production company Octopus Theatricals.

AllHipHop: So tell people about it and what prompted you to create this visual work of art.

Nikki Lynette: Again, my name is Nikki Lynette. I don’t know if some of y’all remember me from the blog era where I had this really crazy mixed tape series called Roses and Guns. I was having the time…

AllHipHop: Oh, by the way, you used to call yourself the other Nikki because Nicki Minaj was out almost in a similar timeframe.

Nikki Lynette: I like the name the other Nikki. I still like it. So I had a really bad mental health crisis between 2015 and 2017 and I had a mental break and I took a long time away from performing or creating anything. One of the first things that I did when I came back was license my music to Spike Lee for “She’s Got To Have It.”

AllHipHop: That’s right. I remember that. The Netflix series

Nikki Lynette: Yes. And so when I met Spike and I went to the, she’s got to have it premiere. I told him I had this idea to create a film, but I was a little nervous because the idea was weird and I felt like it might alienate some folk, but call in others. And Spike was like, “So what? You just need to make it unapologetic. Other people don’t mind when you left out and they not unapologetic, so you shouldn’t be apologetic what you want to do.”

And so I was mad energized. Yeah. Other people ain’t apologetic and I’m going to just do it. And I didn’t realize how expensive making films was and I was poor. I was super poor because I had had a mental health crisis. I hadn’t been working in that long. And so it took from 2018 until 2023 for me to finally raise the money to do this film the way I wanted to do. And that’s partially because I have my musical about depression Get Out Alive. That started popping. And so my film had to take a backseat to the play and now I got the budget. It’s in festivals and it’s starting to get love. I’m excited.

AllHipHop: You stuck with it and I applaud you for that because it takes a lot just the creation process. But then when you start looping in funding and producers and support, and this is a very hearty piece of art. It’s not just iPhones and simple cameras. Talk about the production value and all that.

Nikki Lynette: As we know as people who consume Hip-Hop, who are in the culture, we know that our aesthetic, our style, our music has always been used to sell and further other people’s agendas. And so after my mental break, I realized I couldn’t just go back to doing art for the sake of art. It wasn’t enough to make me want to deal with the f#ck sh#t like the Hollywood stuff, the industry stuff. It wasn’t enough. And so I decided to make my work about mental health advocacy. I’m a social impact artist and in that way, it makes me a little bit better with tolerating that stuff. I have social anxiety. I don’t really like to be outside like that. I like to do it. I’m a performing artist. I like to do it on my terms and then go home. But in this piece, you see Hip-Hop used as a vehicle for communication.

We built sets, we built costumes, we created props. It was fully full-on creative. There was actual production value. And I feel like when it comes to a lot of times with black art, we don’t get to do that because we don’t get the budget. We don’t get to get our full idea out of our brains. There are people watching this right now who are just as capable as me and the only difference between them and me is they didn’t get their budget yet.

AllHipHop: What’s next for the project? And we’re going to get, you see, I don’t want you to shun Black people or give up on us because you have this Hollywood situation going on.

Nikki Lynette: I’m screening at Dream Con. Dream Con is a Black con. Yeah, that’s July 26-28.

AllHipHop: I think that the general population needs to see this. In general, I think that you’ve resonated with people, even my daughter, and people that you might not realize that you impact.

Nikki Lynette: I have no concept of my impact or my reach until I go outside. I’m an introvert, so I never know that people know me or have seen my work, or are affected by my work until I go to a screening or until I go to an event and people know who I am. I don’t assume people know me. I don’t assume anybody cares. I know that people with mental health issues know my work. And that’s what’s most important to me. Fame as a concept terrifies me. Clout as a concept terrifies me because it’s something that has to always go. You have to lose it in order for clout itself to have value. And I don’t want to shoot for those metrics. They feel like small wins. So, I never know how many people know my work, but then I get, I don’t know if you noticed, but Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner are producers.

AllHipHop: Was going to get to Jamie Foxx, but I didn’t want to lead with that.

Nikki Lynette: No, it’s because Ari has been following my work for a while. It started with him. He saw the film adaptation of my musical that I’m in the midst of optioning “Get Out Alive.” And he’s been following my work since then. And so they came on board with this project when they saw what I was doing with it. And we’re in the process of working toward actually getting a series for it. And so I never know how people react to my work until moments like that are very validating and inspiring.

AllHipHop: But I want to ask you real quick about being so vulnerable and being so open and authentic. It is refreshing on one end. And then for someone like myself, I can never put my insides out to the world the way you do and also online because then there’s an exchange. And sometimes people can be mean or judgmental or you know what I mean? And that’s something I’ve never gotten used to.

Nikki Lynette: Well, it’s okay, because I’m mean. So you know what I’m saying? I am equally as capable of being loving and warm and compassionate as I am of being a b#tch who you really shouldn’t f### with. I am not the one. And if you’re kind and sweet, I love you and I’m here for you and I’m supportive of you, but don’t f#ck with me because I’m here to do something. And it’s not to pay attention to you. You know what I’m saying? And so I don’t really mind, for me, it helps keep me accountable to my recovery because I am a suicide survivor. I do live with C-P-T-S-D (Complex post-traumatic stress disorder). I’m considered treatment resistant because f###### meds don’t work for me. So I have to stay on my wellness plan. I have to stay in therapy. I have to stay in conversation around my wellness. It’s important. And so I don’t really mind talking about it.

Another thing is I’m actually on the board of directors for NAMI Chicago, which is a pretty prominent mental health organization. I know the numbers. I see the statistics in real-time. So I understand that although there are a lot of voices online talking about mental health, not a lot has changed in terms of legislation, in terms of access to care. And the mental health numbers right now are abysmal. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 29. They are struggling. They are having a hard time Men account for 70% of all people who die by suicide. But women are half of all suicide attempts. The numbers are terrible across the board. And so I understand that the work that I do is important because I just don’t want nobody to struggle. I struggled.

I don’t want nobody to go through what I go through. Even now, I live with symptoms that are hard. I can go months without only getting two hours of sleep a night and nothing fixes it. Nothing changes it. I have to believe in wellness. I have to believe that things can get better or what the hell do I have?

AllHipHop: No, I feel you don’t understand. Yeah. But first of all, you’re not new to the entertainment or the performance. You’re a veteran.

Nikki Lynette: I’m new to theater and film in that space. They’re like, ah, nice to meet you man. You never know your worth until you go outside of your community. And then in other communities and other countries, people respect your talent and value you and put money towards stuff. Only in Hip-Hop do we downgrade the value of each other’s work.

Nikki Lynette: Yeah, I’m not available for that. I’m not available for that. And so that’s kind of the reason why I like to take this culture into other mediums. I take it into film, I take it into theater. I already got buzz as a rapper. The first money I ever made as an adult and life was off rap. I feel like if I can make it in this s###, I can make it anywhere. Can’t nobody gatekeep and treat you worse than in Hip-Hop. So I did it and I brought that hustle to film and theater and I feel welcome in those spaces and where I find closed doors, I always find a way to open. And I definitely feel like I learned that through Hip-Hop. So in that way, the culture has benefited my career.

AllHipHop: You’ve always been a bit counterculture anyway, even within Hip-Hop.

Nikki Lynette: Yeah. And now we got the people. We got Rico Nasty and we got people like Doja Cat. They know right? Back in the day, they wouldn’t have given them no play. They wouldn’t know. That’s a fact. Because I went through hell in them days to get my Ws. But they can’t keep us from getting them now. They can’t. Everybody emo now. Everybody alternative now. You know what I’m saying? Everybody got their nose pierced. I was ahead of my time.

AllHipHop: Nah, you were. That’s a fact. That’s a fact. That’s a fact. What’s next? What’s next? I mean you kind of told us, but tell us again.

Nikki Lynette: We are screening at Dream Con. I don’t know the date yet. We’re still sorting it out. I have a West Coast college tour. Well, let’s just say I’m doing a tour in September because there is a Chicago date as well. So there’s this tour in September for Suicide Awareness Month. And then I’m screening in London for World Mental Health Day. And I’m very, very excited about that. I love London. If you are a Black artist, go to London. Go, just go. Just go and check out the scene. Go to their open mics, go to their theater scene, go where you are celebrated – go.

AllHipHop: I know some incredible people in the UK. I have to make it over there.

Nikki Lynette: You do. Well, thank you so much. And for everybody that’s watching this: “Happy Songs About Unhappy Things.” You come to check it out. I’m trying to get it into New York, so hopefully. Thank you so much, and thank you for the love.

AllHipHop: Onward upward.

Young Dolph’s Alleged Murder Mastermind Catches Big Break

A Tennessee judge decided not to revoke the bond of Hernandez Govan, the man accused of ordering a hit on Young Dolph, at a court hearing on Friday (July 12). Govan avoided a return to jail despite getting arrested while out on bond in the murder case.

Judge Jennifer Mitchell allowed Govan to remain out of jail since prosecutors did not ask to revoke his bond, per FOX 13 Memphis. Govan is scheduled to face trial for Young Dolph’s 2021 murder in September.

Govan was arrested in Southaven, Mississippi on June 23. He was charged with stalking, driving with a suspended license and having an improperly mounted license tag. He secured his release from the DeSoto County Jail by posting a $2,250 bond.

Young Dolph was shot and killed at a Memphis bakery in 2021. Four men were charged in connection to his death.

Govan, Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith faced first-degree murder charges. All three men pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors said Govan was the man behind the plot to kill Young Dolph. Johnson and Smith allegedly carried out the hit.

Johnson and Smith remain behind bars. Govan was released on a $90,000 bond in 2023.

A fourth suspect, Johnson’s brother Jermarcus, accepted a plea deal in the murder case. He pleaded guilty to three counts of accessory after the fact. He awaits sentencing.

Trial delays and Govan’s bond upset Young Dolph’s longtime partner Mia Jaye. She said the legal process was “disheartening, unfair, triggering and hurtful.”

“My love’s life was taken… and to be left behind to see NO ONE be held accountable in the court of law for the act… is INSANE,” she wrote on social media.

Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., is survived by Jaye and their two children. He was 36.

Diddy Allegedly Threatened To Leave Editor “Dead In The Trunk Of A Car”

Former Vibe editor-in-chief Danyel Smith grappled with her history with Sean “Diddy” Combs amid his legal issues in a New York Times Magazine essay. Smith recalled Diddy threatening her over a 1997 magazine cover.

“My assistant received a call on my line,” Smith wrote. “’It’s Puffy,’ she said. I got my mind right and picked up. He was still on message: He wanted to see the covers. I was still on message: It’s not what we do. It was then that Combs told me, as I’ve retold hundreds of times over the years, that he would see me ‘dead in the trunk of a car.’ Not missing a beat, I told him he needed to take that threat back. ‘Take it back,’ I said, sounding as if I were 10. ‘Take what back?’ Then, with a vile laugh, ‘F### you.’

She continued, “’Take it back now,’ I said. ‘Or I’m calling my lawyer, and you’re going to jail.’ He said: ‘I know where you are right now. Right on Lexington.’ I called my personal lawyer. I do not know what he said to Combs. Within two hours, Combs faxed over an apology. One of my male bosses was furious that I had not involved him. Combs had called him to complain that I sicced my lawyer on him, as if I somehow wasn’t playing fair.”

Smith detailed how she walked into work one day after the threats and discovered the magazine’s servers had been stolen. The Diddy cover issue was saved on the servers. Rumors spread claiming the theft was an “inside job.” Someone from Vibe supposedly let Bad Boy Records movers in the building. Reps for Diddy declined to comment.

Diddy is the subject of a federal investigation and faces multiple lawsuits. The disgraced mogul has been accused of sexual assault and sex trafficking.

The Bad Boy Records founder’s downfall began when his ex-girlfriend Cassie sued him for rape and years of abuse in November 2023. They settled out of court, but Cassie inspired more women to come forward and file lawsuits against Diddy. Homeland Security raided his homes as part of a federal investigation in March.
