Riley reportedly filed papers in a Brooklyn Federal Court on Wednesday (Mar.18) claiming that Hannibal allowed the Blackstreet trademark renewal to expire and then fraudulently applied for registration under his name and listed himself as the owner of the group’s name.
The producer/songwriter wants an injunction to keep Hannibal from claiming the name.
Blackstreet’s last album Level II was released in 2003.

Drake is now under fire for not supporting the rock doc, Homecoming: The Lost Footage. The company that is distributing it, Specticast, has slapped the Young Money emcee with a lawsuit for tweeting out to his 21 million followers that he was not supporting the project, according to TMZ. The flick chronicles Drake’s rise and features footage of his 2009 performance at Toronto’s Sound Academy.
The Drake Homecoming film is not something OVO or Drake have any part in. I feel it is my responsibility to inform and protect my fans.
— Drizzy (@Drake) March 16, 2015
In their lawsuit, Specticast claims that Drizzy posted that tweet to draw attention to his page so he could plug his upcoming OVO Fest in Toronto. The “Energy” rapper also said that Rap-A-Lot Records’ Jas and Jas Prince, who appears in the movie, were boycotting the project.

A black University of Virginia student was brutally beaten by police over a ID discrepancy early Wednesday morning, ABC reports.
After 20-year-old Martese Johnson was denied entry into a bar on St. Patrick’s Day for allegedly trying to use a fake ID, Alcoholic Beverage Control agents approached him and decided to arrest him. During his arrest his injuries were sustained, according to officials. The ABC agency, who is enforces alcohol laws, would not reveal any other details around the arrest.
A smartphone video shows the UVA junior being detained by the agents as a bystander screams “His head is bleeding!” and Johnson shouts expletives while on the ground. “I go to UVA you f—-g racists!” he yelled.

— UVAProblems (@UVAProbs) March 18, 2015
Students who witnessed the beating said that Johnson never resisted arrest and became injured when he was slammed into the ground. In a letter written by concerned students who witnessed this, they revealed that Johnson needed 10 stitches and described the officers’ behavior as “animalistic” and “insensitive.”
“After Martese was denied entry to the bar, he found himself suddenly flung to the ground, ” read the letter.”The brutish force used resulted in his head and bodily injuries. His treatment was unprovoked as he did not resist questioning or arrest. In confusion, with blood painting his face and creating a pool on the bricks of the corner, he yelled out for mercy. Though he lay bleeding and crying out, officers continued to hold him to the pavement, pinning him down, twisting his arm, with knees to his back until he was handcuffed.”
Johnson was charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice. According to the ABC agency, Johnson was treated for his injuries at the UVA Hospital Emergency Department.
In a statement, Johnson’s lawyer Daniel P. Watkins revealed that Johnson is a double major studying Italian and Media Studies and is a member of the Eta Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
The violent arrested sparked a rally at UVA’s campus, which Johnson attended.

UVA president Teresa Sullivan released a statement about the incident.
“The safety and security of our students will always be my primary concern, and every member of our community should feel safe from the threat of bodily harm and other forms of violence,” Sullivan wrote. “Today, as U.Va. students, faculty, and staff who share a set of deeply held values, we stand unified in our commitment to seeking the truth about this incident. And we stand united in our belief that equal treatment and equal justice are among our fundamental rights under the law.”

Fox’s television series Empire, about a family in the music and entertainment business, is a smash-hit. It has not only received rave reviews and high numbers of viewers week after week, but also weaved its way into popular culture – from being parodied on Saturday Night Live to being referenced in ads for other shows (Weird Loners). Public figures have even claimed that elements of their lives were used as inspiration for certain characters. And that is not totally without merit. Therefore, with the premiere season set to conclude tonight, AllHipHop.com has compiled a “who’s who” list to see how some members of the Lyon family and Empire Entertainment compare to the real world Hip-Hop moguls and artists who have made an impact.
Lucious Lyon is Diddy and Jay Z: Lucious is the patriarch of the family of who parlayed his life experiences in the streets into a music career and helped turn Empire Entertainment into an amazingly successful company for which he sees his children being able to benefit from. Last month, Diddy said he was suing the show for basing parts of the show on his life and the events of Bad Boy Entertainment and not compensating him for it. Luscious Lyon and Diddy certainly share some similarities (i.e their white parties and kids who see the spotlight, having two sons involved in music) , but there are other elements of Luscious’ life that are more Sean Carter than Sean Combs. For example, just like Hov, Luscious became a mogul because he found success initially as a recording artist discussing hustling which helped build his brand, whereas Puff made an album after Bad Boy was already an established entity.
Cookie Lyon is Lil’ Kim: By her own admission, Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie, has said that “she [Lil’ Kim] was a champion, and she’s certainly Cookie’s champion.” All it takes is one scene and it’s clear to see the similarities between the two women. In addition to their beauty and outspoken attitudes, they also both did prison time to protect the ones they care about. In 2005, Lil Kim was convicted for lying to the grand jury to protect people in a 2001 shootout and went to jail for a year. On Empire, Cookie has just been released from a 17-year sentence for drug dealing while Lucious benefited from the profits of those sales by using that money to build Empire Entertainment.
Andre Lyon is Damon Dash: Andre is not musically inclined like the rest of his family, but it is largely because of his business acumen that Empire Entertainment is at the level of success that it is. Similarly, Damon Dash helped Roc-A-Fella Records and Jay Z thrive in the late 90’s and early 00’s in the same manner. When Jay and Dame’s business relationship soured, many perceived that Dame got the short end of the stick. And in a recent episode of Empire, Lucious voted against Andre running the company if/when he were to become incapacitated.
Jamal Lyon is Frank Ocean: They’re both very talented R&B artists who can sing and play instruments. It’s 2015, and so their open homosexuality, while it did get some attention initially, really isn’t an issue. And just as how some in the music community ( Jay Z and Beyonce) showed Ocean support for discussing that personal detail with the public, Cookie and his brother Hakeem have been there for Jamal.
Hakeem Lyon is Tyga: Hakeem and Tyga are both mediocre rappers with upbeat energy that gives them an appeal to younger audiences, yet they both want to complete creative freedom. Hakeem is asked to do a pop record at a Teen Choice Awards nomination ceremony (and Tyga has been linked to Kylie Jenner who co-hosted a music awards show for teen audiences), but later insists on not watering down his music. And while Tyga has been linked to mainstream gossip because of his aforementioned connection to Jenner, he also took a no-hold barred approach to his image by working on an adult film, Rack City: The XXX Movie back in 2012. And because the age gap between Tyga [25 years old] and Kylie [17 years old] has gotten attention, Empire flips that and has Hakeem, presumably in his late-teens, fall for an older woman instead, Camilla Marks (played by Naomi Campbell).
What do you think of Empire? Will you be tuning in tonight for the season finale?

While Bobbi Kristina remains in an unstable condition in the hospital, one of her family members is trying to make money off her and the situation. SMH! Jerod Brown, Bobby Brown‘s nephew, has asked everyone to support a tribute song he made based off the social media hashtag #PrayforBK. As he sent the song out via social media, he claimed that all proceeds would be going to Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘Be A King’ Foundation. Several people began to comment on the post including those affiliated with the King Family and foundation. Brown then edited his original post and deleted any reference to proceeds going to the King’s organization, but he had already been called out by several. He even got called out by Tricia Harris who works closely with the family. After making one comment on his post stating that the foundation had nothing to do with his effort, Tricia Harris returned to the post later to confirm that the proceeds were definitely not going to any King entity. SMH what has the world come to?

Allegedly Beyonce’s lawyers have been in litigation to block a book being published about Beyonce by Grand Central Books. The book is an unauthorized biography from author J. Randy Taraborrelli, and it’s supposed to be borderline… juicy tell all.
Some of the details that will be allegedly shared in the book include:
-Details of Beyonce’s early childhood with Matthew Knowles life long cheating
-what really happened between her and Matthew Knowles
-her ups and downs with Kelly Rowland
-all of the Destiny’s Child drama
-the celebrities that Bey dated before Jay Z
-her rocky relationship with Solange over the years
-her weight and self-esteem problems over the years
-details surrounding her miscarriage
This could all be fluff but remember late last year there was an announcement that Beyonce’s unauthorized biography would hit bookstores in 2015. Being that Beyonce wouldn’t be participating in the project, the material would have to be gleaned from interviews with secondary sources. Readers may have to look at the book with some sort of skepticism, but seeing how Bey has tried to tightly control her image over the years, this version could be more true than one she would put out.
