50 Cent Talks Watching "Empire", Compares The Show To "Glee" (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Before the new Fox series Empire even aired, 50 Cent was throwing a few jabs at the program. Back in December, Fif accused Empire creators of stealing the marketing campaign of his own show Power. The social media dig led to a back-and-forth exchange between 50 and Empire star Taraji P. Henson as well as fans of the respective hit series jumping into the debate.

Now that Empire has become a ratings behemoth, many viewers want to know what 50 currently thinks of the Lee Daniels produced music drama. He was asked about the show during an interview with Ebro In The Morning.

“The first episode – I didn’t know what it was until I got a chance to see it,” said 50. “The show moved so fast it felt like my whole season [of Power].”

He was then asked if Empire was similar to the other Fox music-based show Glee. 50 responded, “It is. When it stops and takes the ambiance in the room out, it just plays the music. So it feels like you’re watching a play.”

The G-Unit boss did admit that Empire and Power are not the same type of program. However, he still believes the success of his Starz show influenced Empire‘s strategy of appealing to an African-American audience.

“It’s so different from Power,” 50 added. “If you have a successful Black television show –  they’re targeting that demo. This is why they did similar things in the artwork and tagline for the show.”

Action Bronson Talks Why He Throws His Fans Off Stage (VIDEO)

Action Bronson stopped by ESPN’s Highly Questionable to talk about his upcoming debut album Mr. Wonderful and his onstage theatrics.

After one overzealous fan jumped onto the stage during one of his concerts, the big man picked him up and threw him back into the crowd. Now, trying to to crash the stage at Bronson’s shows is a norm and he continues to toss fans left and right to prevent the unexpected.

“Who knows what they are trying to do,” he said about the fans who hop on stage while he’s performing. “I know they are coming with open arms…I’m not getting yoked up on stage while I’m doing my show. You know how many people got their phones out? Every move is filmed at this point so I usually have to be the aggressor.”

Not all them are nice to watch and he says that one time he thought he seriously injured someone.

“In Europe some kid jumped on stage and tried to hug me but really around my neck. So me and my cousin, Big Body, we both disposed of him at the same time. We threw him into the crowd and everyone just parted so they could see and you hear is a ‘thud’…I thought the kid was paralyzed for sure but he wasn’t.”

Watch to hear the “Easy Rider” rapper talk about his transition from cooking into rapping, that one time he rapped from a portapotty and more.

Ferguson Police Officer Fired, Two Suspended For Racially Charged Emails

One Ferguson, MO police official has been fired and two others are on administrative leave after the Department of Justice uncovered racially charged emails during an investigation of the Ferguson Police Department, according to NBC. Seven of the emails between police and court employees were highlighted that showed constitutional violations and revealed that there was excessive use of force towards African Americans and that they were targeted disproportionately. The senders were not publicly revealed.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated in the Ferguson Police Department or any other department,” Mayor James Knowles told the press yesterday (Mar. 4). “We must do better not only as a city, but also as a state and country.”

After these emails were unveiled, Attorney General Eric Holder bashed the city of Ferguson for being a “highly toxic environment” of racism and misconduct.

Ferguson became a media hotbed for racial tensions to run high after former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed unarmed teen Mike Brown last August. With the discovery of these emails, which date back to 2008,  it shows that their was corruption and racial bias within the police department long before Brown’s death.

Here’s a rundown of what the emails said below.

  • A November 2008 email stated that President Barack Obama would not be president for very long because “what black man holds a steady job for four years.”
  • A March 2010 email mocked African-Americans through speech and familial stereotypes, using a story involving child support. One line from the email read: “I be so glad that dis be my last child support payment! Month after month, year after year, all dose payments!”
  • An April 2011 email depicted President Barack Obama as a chimpanzee.
  • A May 2011 email stated: “An African-American woman in New Orleans was admitted into the hospital for a pregnancy termination. Two weeks later she received a check for $5,000. She phoned the hospital to ask who it was from. The hospital said, ‘Crimestoppers.'”
  • A June 2011 email described a man seeking to obtain “welfare” for his dogs because they are “mixed in color, unemployed, lazy, can’t speak English and have no frigging clue who their Daddies are.”
  • An October 2011 email included a photo of a bare-chested group of dancing women, apparently in Africa, with the caption, “Michelle Obama’s High School Reunion.”
  • A December 2011 email included jokes that are based on offensive stereotypes about Muslims.

Method Man Says Waiting 88 Years For The Next Wu-Tang Clan Album Is Stupid

Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA shocked fans when he said that their Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album would not be released for another 88 years. Apparently, this was not a decision made with input from all eight members of the Clan.

In a sit down with XXL, Meth seemed unaware when asked about the timetable that RZA had laid out. “What do you mean 88 years?” he initially said when asked about the album. After he was filled in about the plan, he snapped.

“F–k that album,” he said. “I’m tired of this s–t and I know everybody else is tired of it, too. F–k that album, if that’s what they are doing. I haven’t heard anything like that, but if they’re doing crap like that, f–k that album. Straight up. I’m just keeping it 100. When music can’t be music and y’all turning it into something else, f–k that. Give it to the people, if they want to hear the s###, let them have it. Give it away free. I don’t give a f–k; that ain’t making nobody rich or poor. Give the f–ing music out. Stop playing with the public, man.”

The rapper/actor said he liked the idea of selling the album for a large amount but feels that making the fans wait 88 years for music is less than smart.

“I dug the whole idea in the beginning,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Wow, this has never been done before.’ I was cool with s–t. But now, this is ridiculous. 88 years? Really? If that s–t is true, that s–t is stupid. You have to wait 88 years to hear some s–t? By that time, it’s going to be f—in’ played out. If it ain’t already played out. I hope that’s a rumor. Whoever said that, that s### is f—in’ stupid.”

Tical is currently working on his next album, Methlab.

Department Of Justice Will Not Charge Darren Wilson In Mike Brown's Death

Darren Wilson was not indicted by the grand jury and he will not be charged by the Department of Justice either. An 86-page memorandum has been made public that states that Wilson acted in self-defense and did not violate any rights of the unarmed teen Michael Brown, according to USA Today.

Attorney General Eric Holder said he stands behind the DOJ’s decision.

“I concur with the investigative team’s judgment and the determination about our inability to meet the required federal standard of proof,” Holder said.

According to the investigators, several witnesses said that Brown approached Wilson in a threatening manner and that he shot in self defense and continued shooting until Brown fell to the ground.

“There is no evidence upon which prosecutors can rely to disprove Wilson’s stated subjective belief that he feared for his safety,” the report states.

The report also concludes that though some witness said that Brown lifted his hands in a sign of surrender, those accounts were not consistent with physical and forensic evidence.

Lesley McSpadden and Mike Brown, Sr. released a statement with their disheartened feelings about the decision.

“Today, we received disappointing news from the Department of Justice that the killer of our son wouldn’t be held accountable for his actions,” Brown’s parents said in a written statement. “While we are saddened by this decision, we are encouraged that the DOJ will hold the Ferguson Police Department accountable for the pattern of racial bias and profiling they found in their handling of interactions with people of color. It is our hope that through this action, true change will come not only in Ferguson but around the country. If that change happens, our son’s death will not have been in vain.”

5 & Done: John Depp

Today mixtapes can garner the same importance as the elusive début album. Queens Native, Jonathan “John Depp” Ruiz, continues erecting his creative legacy with his Should’a Been An Album mixtape series. Depp exudes a visceral talent that’s rooted in a celebrated Hip-Hop history.

Standing firmly on two sturdy legs Depp refuses to look to a relative to pave his way. This AllHipHop exclusive poignantly expresses his stance on everything from maintaining a healthy penis, releasing his next project, Should’a Been An Album 3, and sharing his perspective on surviving being shot.

Given the potential and possibility that you possess, how do you continue to challenge yourself to make an impact while striving to remain humble?

Just knowing how powerful my music is it puts me in a humble state. When I don’t call everybody whose number is in my phone like, ‘Yo, bro can you do this favor for me. Yo, I need you,’ or, ‘Can I come to your show?’ Yo, I don’t do none of that.  I just know what I got to do. And I work on what I got to do. Remaining humble it plays a big part into what I do. If I wasn’t  humble I probably would have jumped out the window 20 times already. Just the fact that I didn’t and nobody knows what I’m capable of doing I feel more powerful. Everybody thinks I fell off or I stopped rapping, but once they get a load of this sh*t.

Respected artists like Juelz Santana and Drake have taken a keen interest in your creativity. So far, this year what have you been working on?

Right now, I got a single out “Buss A Move.” I did a joint venture deal with TNF the record label. They had put out that record. That’s the first single off the tape. I’m treating the tape like an album. I got so much confidence in it. I  know what I’m capable of doing. With these mixtape records I’m going to have everybody wondering why I put so much good music on a mixtape. But, I have a following already that’s looking forward to hearing them. They’re looking forward to the next Shoulda Been An Album: 3.

Up to this day, when I’m out and about in the streets – when I bump into people in the streets that’s all they talk about. ‘I didn’t get part one, but I love part 2,’ or, ‘I didn’t get part 2 yet, but part 1 is my sh*t.’ That’s the only reason I stuck to the title, Shoulda Been An Album, because the 3 is my last tape. I feel like this is my last mixtape. If they don’t get the point after these projects, then fu*k it maybe I should be a songwriter. I’ll never stop doing what I do. I’ve been doing this for 12 years. It’s just timing. I’ve been humble this whole time.

You’ve had the experience of growing up with Jam Master Jay’s nephew and your cousin, Lloyd Banks, is an essential part of G-Unit. Initially, what about Hip-Hop compelled you to contribute your efforts to the genre; so far, what’s been your favorite Hip-Hop memory?

I’ve been humble from a kid watching 50 Cent and the whole G-Unit. I’ve been in that circle since I was a kid. They helped a lot. Just with me being from the neighborhood. I’ve lived on Hollis. I’m from Southside of Jamaica Queens. I’ve got a lot of experience of just being so close to them guys. Every neighborhood that I’ve lived in I’ve looked up to somebody. Everybody had their own person that they looked up to. I happened to be on both sides where we looked up to people like the Lost Boyz them being Southside dudes. And then Biggie, Puff, 50 Cents and them guys. So, that was a lot of motivation.

But my greatest Hip-Hop memory is tied to Summer Jamm 2011 when I performed on stage with Julez. I didn’t have my own record at the time, just the energy of me running out on that stage — that’s been my greatest impact in Hip-Hop.

A tenacious work-ethic combined with organic talent has perhaps delivered you to the eve of your creative revolution. Being an independent MC requires investing a tremendous amount of energy into your profession. Regarding your creative, financial, spiritual, and physical health what do you do in order to operate to your fullest capacity?

Good question. It’s a part of what I said earlier with remaining humble, but I study the industry. I read books – just things to keep me ahead – like with my wordplay just certain things to keep me hip to what’s going on. I grew up in a holy household. My grandma and everybody is Catholic. Help from God has put me in the position I’m in. He gave me he drive that I do have. I feel like I don’t talk to Him as much I need to though. Sometimes just going to church is not enough. When I’m waking up I don’t pray as much as I need to. I thank God for everything that I do have and for everything that I do have coming.

I’m still getting booked for features, and for little things like walk-throughs. I invest my money into certain things to where it comes back. I put everything towards my music, though. I hardly buy gear; I only buy clothes. Everything is studio time – buying beats, or for the production –everything goes towards the music. Any little money I make or profit goes straight to my career, definitely. I make sure I work out. I go to the juice bar and things like that. When it’s time to go to the club that’s when I get my system dirty. I use protection every time. I’m not a big fan on raw sex or sh*t like that. I use protection and not just for the babies for the rabies, too.

[laughs] According to Mr. Ruiz, as you use the mic to share your evolving maturation as a man and as an MC is there anything you’re unwilling to share your thoughts on?

Yeah, glorifying the whole fact that I got shot. That’s not the message that I’m trying to put out there to people. I’m not that type of guy. I was the victim in the situation. There are certain people that look at these different interviews and they act on what they see. And they believe what they see. They think you got to behave a certain way to get somewhere in life.

Basically,  you don’t have to get shot to be a rapper.  I’m not trying to glorify that whole situation. I’m totally against what happened. It’s not cool. If this is your dream there’s other ways to go about it. You don’t have to get shot. Some people think it’s cool like, ‘Yo, you got hit?’ What if I wasn’t here. My leg is okay. I still got the bullet in it though. When it gets like real cold outside, you know, my leg tends to numb up on me in that certain area where the bullet is. But I’m getting it removed sometime later this year.

Guess What Mobb Deep Is About To Do?

Mobb Deep has been doing this rap thing for a hot little minute these days! I am thinking they are always doing something dope – keeping it moving. The next album they do will be completely produced by Alchemist. He’s the executive producer and they are also letting him produce every single song on the unnamed album. This is an exclusive MOBB rumor! LOL! Seriously, this is previously unknown.

El Gant (feat. Ras Kass & DJ Devastate) – "Razor Ramon"

NY native El Gant, and SoCal’s Waterproof MC, Ras Kass, join forces on the bicoastal banger, “Razor Ramon.” The track is released just in time for the duo’s six city tour that starts tonight in Seattle, where the two will end up in Austin for a week of debauchery at SXSW. Ras Kass spits with reckless abandon, between El Gants’ rapid fire flow that fuses cultural analogies with tales of industry shenanigans. To make the cypher complete, Sweden’s DJ Devastate add his razor sharp scratch chorus over Jake Palumbo’s synth heavy production.

Threesomes, Fake Friends, & A Baby More To The Chris Brown Baby Mama Drama

Soooooooooooooo it seems to be MORE to the Chris Brown BABY MAMA DRAMA. So out of nowhere, a 9 month old baby has emerged by model Nia Gonzalez. The crooner’s on and off girlfriend Karrueche took to her twitter today to say that there is only so much one can take and she wishes Chris and his family the best because she doesn’t want to participate in any baby mama drama. But there is allegedly more to this story. Rumor has it that Karruehe knew about their short lived love affair and that Gonzalez and Chris’ ex boo Rihanna were friends. It has even been said that Karrueche’s BFF Christina Millian is friends with the girl too. So when this baby was conceived were Chris, Karrueche, and Nia having threesomes or was this one of the infamous “celebrity break” babies? The problem with the break baby theory is Brown and Karreuche’s breaks usually only last 24 hours. Karrueche was asking who is Nia, but apparently she has been hanging out with her lol. Even though Karrueche says she’s done with Brown (for the millionth time) we believe she will be babysitting the child next week. We’ll keep you posted.
