Birdman isn’t the only one in hip-hop with a Marvel cover. Rap twosome Run the Jewels have been cartoonized for two issues of Marvel Comics’ Issue 45 of Deadpool and Issue Two of Howard the Duck.
“We didn’t know it was happening,” El-P told Rolling Stone. “We just got told it was happening and we were like, ‘You can’t be serious, that’s not possible, how is that even possible?’ Then they showed us the covers. And it’s f###### crazy.”
Killer Mike says that’s not exactly how things went and that he could recall a conversation Marvel had with their management team. Either way, he was stoked about the cover. “I was dancing around the room in my Polo underwear,” he said.
Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso said he got inspired to use the signature pose after watching his son celebrate winning a football game.
“Seeing the way that my 11-year-old son and his friends were improv-ing off of this really vibrant, iconic image. . .It got me thinking. If you’ve got this movement around the world from Bangladesh to Taiwan, people are doing their interpretations of this logo, and I got these roughnecks doing it on the sideline of a football game. . .Maybe Marvel could weight in on this and have some fun.”
Eric Bellinger released his latest single “Focused On You” last month and now the Grammy award winner has followed up with the video featuring 2 Chainz. Mya, Tyrese, Love & Hip Hop Hollywood’s Mally Mall and more make a cameo in the video which was filmed at a dope mansion in Sunny LA.
“Focused On You” samples Nas & The Braveheart’s classic hit “Oochie Wally” and will be released on Bellinger’s forthcoming album, Cuffing Season.
Triple OG Percy Miller, aka Master P, never claimed to be a great rapper. He never wrote the wittiest punch lines, hottest lyrics or most mesmerizing metaphors. In fact, the CEO/ film maker/ mogul/ actor known to millions as Master P may never even be mentioned for his rapping abilities at all.
But P’s grimy ghetto tales and rowdy, raw delivery made you feel his pains of coming of age in New Orleans’ poverty-stricken, drug-infested Callio Projects. Added to that, Mr. Miller has always had the A&R expertise to surround himself with the rawest, untapped talents to transform his one-time fledging No Limit Records into a heralded hip hop institution.
Now, some 15 years since NL dominated the radio, tore up Billboard charts and influenced every rapper-turned-entrepreneur in the rap game to follow, the Colonel resurrects his empire with No Limit Forever Records. And he unleashes a roster full of hungry rappers and producers with brand new group Money Mafia and banging mixtape ThePurpleTapeFiles
In usual No Limit fashion, the mixtape is jam-packed with 21 sizzling hot trunk-shaking tracks by way of in-house production guru BlaqNMild. From the mixtape intro, “Hell of A Life,” when P’s unmistakable baritone introduces tank dogs Ace B, Eastwood and BlaqNMild atop a mid-tempo groove and mellow piano chords, it’s evident that No Limit is back and ready to take over the game all over again.
And the HNIC proclaims his dominance past and future on the aptly titled “Guess Who Back” with Romeo and Playbeezy. Over a slick Eminem sample, amped-up production and Peavy-popping 808 kicks, P boasts: “I got five Grammys, n####, but I didn’t change/ The first n#### to bling, bling an album cover, mayne/ The first n#### to go independent/ And sell platinum records, n####, and I’m still winning.” P sounds like it’s 1995 all over again!
From the Internet favorite single “Power” featuring Gangsta, Ace B and Young Money/ Cash Money CEO and one-time nemesis Lil Wayne to the gritty “I’m Just Tryin” to gangster love story “What You Be On,” We All We Got is reminiscent of an updated No Limit Records. Then, there’s the futuristic, slow-moving, synthesizer-driven “If U Ain’t With Me.” Even the 21st Century remake cut “We Bout It” featuring P, Ace B and Calliope Popeye is just as noisy, raucous and rowdy as the original version.
Get to know more about Money Mafia with an exclusive video
There was a time in rap music when the world belonged to No Limit. Amassing an arsenal of gold and platinum plaques, Master P and his NL crew set the standard in business, music and marketing. And We All We Got marks the resurgence of a dynasty.
Mike Epps hasn’t seen Top Five and he probably won’t anytime soon. Before he questioned why Hollywood keeps giving the movie’s director, Chris Rock, a chance in a recent interview, he put down all the comedians in the film’s cast.
“I don’t know why they called it Top Five,” he said on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. “There wasn’t one good comedian in the whole movie.”
Now one of the film’s stars, J.B Smoove, is speaking up about Epps’ comments, saying he hopes those weren’t his exact words.
“I know Mike very well and I am never one for negative thoughts,” he told VIBE. “I just hope it wasn’t true because there was, maybe, 15 comics in the movie doing amazing things and I don’t see anybody hungry. I don’t see anybody having eggs thrown at them on stage. I don’t see anybody getting booed. I see everybody doing their own thing, having a good time and taking advantage of the blessings we have as comedians to have this amazing voice. To have someone silence that voice, whether directly or indirectly, is not cool.”
Top Five came in at number four at the box office during its opening weekend, grossing over seven million.
Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have officially hit splitsville.
According to reports, the Wild N’ Out creator quietly filed for divorce from his wife of six years on Dec. 12th. However, Mariah had allegedly already been in talks with her lawyers about the terms of her divorce before Nick filed. The “Fantasy” singer was reportedly on the phone with lawyers negotiating about her property settlement on Dec. 2nd, which caused her to be three hours late to her performance at the NBC tree lighting ceremony.
Back in August, the America’s Got Talent host had revealed that he and Mariah had not be on good terms.
“There is trouble in paradise,” he told The Insider With Yahoo. “We have been living in separate houses for a few months.”
The two married in 2008 after knowing each other for six weeks. The estranged couple has three-year-old twins together, Moroccan and Monroe.

A new album isn’t the only thing Tyga is dropping this year. It’s reported that the former YMCMB spitter has signed a deal with MTV to launch his own reality television show.
The show, which we do not have a title of, is set to focus on his turn up lifestyle with his friends and will leave out his love life. His former girlfriend and mother of his child, Blac Chyna and his rumored boo Kylie Jenner will not be popping up on any of the episodes.
Though his past and present bae won’t be making appearances, his BFF Chris Brown will and has reportedly already filmed a scene with him.
Pittsburgh Rapper J-Haze is back with his new single of “Does It Really Matter” featuring Feli Fame. The song is off Haze’s upcoming Heroin Habits mixtape.
(AllHipHop News) The battle over the supposed DMX album Redemption Of The Beast could be headed to a court room. HipHopDX reports the Dark Man’s brother/manager Montana has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Seven Arts Entertainment, the company releasing the project. X’s team claims 7Arts is in breach of contract.
“[Seven Arts Entertainment] had no right to put out a new album,” Montana told HHDX. “The only contract DMX had was for Undisputed and that came out two years ago. He don’t have a contract with them to [release] another album.”
Seven Arts promoted the project under DMX’s name even though the artist claimed he was not involved in its creation. The company’s CEO Peter Hoffman sent out a statement saying, “DMX and his team fully cooperated on the production of this album.”
Montana contends Redemption is simply songs from X’s Undisputed LP with a few extra records that were not included on the New York rapper’s 7th official studio album.
“The owner called me said he’s stuck with a couple of albums. He wants to push them out. He needed our help, so he had to sit at the table with us and he never did that. He decided to take it upon himself to do what the f**k he did,” added Montana. “He was supposed to take care of some business with me and he took it upon himself not to do it, so he’s gonna have a lot of problems if he does. He’s already got problems.”
(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent may not officially be part of the Shady/Aftermath family anymore, but that did not stop the G-Unit leader from teaming with his old boss Eminem for another track. 50 revealed during an online Q&A that he worked with Em for the upcoming Street King Immortal album.
The exchange with fans was part of 50’s duties as guest editor of the New York Daily News. The live chat session also included the Queens mogul sharing his biggest musical influences (Run-DMC, Jam Master Jay, Nas, Juice Crew), the coolest actors he has worked with (Robert De Niro, Forrest Whitaker), and his pick to win the Super Bowl (Seattle Seahawks).
(AllHipHop News) After nearly a decade in the rap game, Lupe Fiasco says he no longer wants to play the role of a starter. He would rather just work as the back-up. He first made this admission on Twitter when he stated he was finished addressing the public. Lupe reiterated that notion in an interview with Billboard.
The Chicago native told the publication he is not upset that his relevancy in today’s music scene has diminished. In fact, he claims to welcome it. Lupe said:
I don’t want to be relevant today. I don’t want to be the go-to guy for the club song or to speak on all the dumb s**t that’s going around. I’m happy being that somewhat sophisticated, overly deep weird guy making powerful music — but just two or three degrees away from the center of attention. There is a new generation speaking to a new generation, so you have a Kendrick Lamar and a J. Cole and the other people who are the new Lupes. I don’t have the same lingo. I don’t sip lean or smoke weed. I can’t compete with a Wiz Khalifa for the attention of a 12-year old.
The “Deliver” rapper was also questioned about his involvement in the highly publicized Twitter exchanges with Iggy Azalea, Azealia Banks, and Kid Cudi. Lupe caught backlash from some users that felt he was wrong for defending Iggy. According to Fiasco, the whole ordeal was not about offering a defense for the Australian performer, it was just him using social media to drive a discussion.
You realize, “Oh, this is a game. Let’s play this controversy-sells game. Let me just engage this fan and have people watch this conversation,” which is what happened. My tweet was literally, “Iggy Azalea has her place in hip-hop,” which is so open-ended. Half the people are coming at her throat, the other half are supporting, and I’m more in the middle — it’s like, I don’t even care.
Lupe Fiasco’s Tetsuo & Youth (his final album on Atlantic Records) is scheduled for release on Tuesday, January 20.
Kimbo Slice made his name fighting in the backyards of Florida, but he’s got another job in mix martial arts.
The intimidating pugilist has signed to Bellator, according to MMA Junkie’s John Morgan.
A formal announcement is expected to be revealed today, as the line-up of Belabor 132 is unveiled.
Kimbo, real name Kevin Ferguson, rose to prominence as his backyard brawls were streamed on the internet.
Slice has not fare well when he tried to transition into formal fighting, in both professional boxing and MMA. And at 40-years-old, he’s got his share of skeptics.
Nevertheless, critics and supporters agree overwhelmingly that Kimbo is a huge draw, despite his limitations. Slice was formerly in the UFC.
Check out one of his infamous backyard boxing matches.
(AllHipHop News) Funkmaster Flex was feeling some type of way recently about a few of Jay Z’s brands. The Hot 97 DJ went on a bomb-filled rant about his dealing with Hov’s Life+Times website and 40/40 Club. It appears the tirade was an extension of the longstanding feud between Jay and members of Dipset.
That website is trash by the way. I figured I’d say that trash so you take me serious on where I’m going. They do this interview after I drop my app, asking me a lot of key questions about apps – building apps, how, why, how’d you launch it? But all of that didn’t get put in the story though. But a lot of that information got put into that new Jay Z app. But I was good with that I ate that. I understood it. Everybody’s out here hustling…
Fast forward to today. My assistant gets an email – “We would like to do a story about your involvement in the Dipset reunion” from Life+Times maga… What is it a site? Site’s trash. A bunch of dumb big pictures and no numbers. Y’all can’t move with me in this digital space….
I’ve always been super neutral in this situation. But I don’t understand how somebody from that site can ask me about my involvement in the Dipset reunion. But when I used to go to 40/40, I was told not to play any Dipset records. I’m so confused.
And I’m gonna tell you something about that 40/40 in Atlantic City. There was a security guard that came up to me and told me to change that record, because of my respect for Desiree I changed it. We was gonna wear you out in that club that night. Your whole security is my Tunnel security. I made them dudes rich.
We were gonna press you that night. And just in case you’re feeling lucky, I’m back in Atlantic City this Sunday. You know who I’m talking to. You’re funny looking and you’re a clown. We were gonna take you down that night. You knew it. That’s why you were crying.
Funk Flex goes on to accuse Life+Times’ request for an interview as a ploy to find out Dipset’s next move. He also says Jay’s Samsung “Magna Carta” app may not have crashed if they actually used the information he gave about his own application. Flex then repeats “Don’t play with me,” and says “I let you live in this town, don’t think I can’t ruin you.”
(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn emcee Joey Bada$$ is prepping to release his debut studio album B4.DA.$$ next Tuesday, and the 19-year-old rhymer is making his media rounds. One of those stops was with Bloomberg TV.
During the discussion with Pimm Fox on “Taking Stock,” Joey recalled his path to becoming one of the most watched young Hip Hop stars at the moment. He also addressed the picture of President Barack Obama’s daughter Malia wearing his group’s t-shirt. The photo caused controversy after it appeared on Pro Era’s Instagram page, reportedly leading to an investigation by the White House.
“It was amazing,” said Joey when asked about seeing the young lady sporting a shirt with his crew’s logo. “I was in Australia. I pretty much woke up one morning, looked at my phone, and I seen a whole bunch of my friends posting this picture of this girl in the Pro Era shirt. I was like, ‘What’s so special about this?’ I didn’t even know who she was.”
Joey goes on to add that it was not until after he read the picture’s comments that he understood the magnitude of the photo. He then posted the pic to his own IG page.
B4.DA.$$ is scheduled for release Tuesday, January 20. It includes production by Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, J Dilla, Kirk Knight, Chuck Strangers, and more.
(AllHipHop News) Items once belonging to emcee/actor Tupac Shakur will be on display at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles starting next month. The Los Angeles Times reports the “All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur” exhibition will include Pac’s handwritten notes, lyrics, poems, interview and performance footage, and outfits.
The Tupac Shakur estate provided the items for the exhibit. The late entertainer’s mother, Afeni Shakur, is overseeing the project.
“It means a lot to me that [Grammy Museum Executive Director] Bob Santelli and the Grammy Museum have chosen to honor my son with their upcoming exhibit of his works,” stated Afeni. “Tupac’s writings are an honest reflection of his passions for, and about life. His timeless messages have instilled hope for those who have little, and for others, they serve as a catalyst for change. His words continue to motivate and inspire new generations.”
Pac memorabilia was previously part of the Grammy Museum’s “Hip-Hop: A Cultural Odyssey” in 2011. The California representative’s legacy has also been covered in Grammy Museum workshops such as “An Introduction to Hip-Hop” and “The Art Of Songwriting: Hip Hop.”
“All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur” will run at the Grammy Museum February 2 through April 22.
(AllHipHop News) The on-air marijuana debate between 2 Chainz and Nancy Grace went viral almost instantly after hitting the net. The Atlanta rhymer and the former lawyer’s weed face off attracted millions of hits, and Grace now says she wants another round with the man formerly known as Tity Boi. The HLN television host took to Twitter to challenge Chainz to a rematch.
The “Feds Watching” performer has not publicly responded to Grace’s request for another head-to-head, but he recently called out another cable news commentator. Chainz posted a picture of he and Grace on his Instagram page with a caption that included, “That was a great debate, thanks Nancy. [Fox News host] Bill O’Reilly, you up next!”
A judge has totally revoked Chris Brown’s probation in the Rihanna case.
A pair of shootings at club appearances prompted the action, even though Brown was not directly involved in either incident. Authorities feel the singer should serve time, because the shootings happened at his shows.
Sunday in San Jose, five people were shot at a Chris Brown event. And then, Suge Knight was infamously shot at a Breezy party, along with several others at a VMA party in August.
Additionally, a judge said that the singer left the county for San Jose without the permission of the court, which constitutes a violation of his probation.
The singers probation officer said, “There is also concern that when he performs or attends at some of his public events, people will get shot or seriously injured.”
Furthermore, Chris has been arrested a couple of times while on probation, an offense that would normally warrant jail time.
The probation officer recommends jail time, because the singers demonstrates a “pattern of making choices that are counterproductive.”
