Azealia Banks Has Released An Excerpt From The Book She Is Writing

Between having twitter battles and independently dropping her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, Azealia Banks has been writing a book that shares the same title of her album. She recently unveiled one of the chapters, ‘”Idle Delilah” via her Tumblr account. The chapter is named after one of her album cuts and tells the story of a Delilah, a slave master’s daughter, who lives in the deep antebellum south. The book, which is equipped with 16 chapters, does not have a release date yet but the excerpt below will surely hold fans over.

Read on below.

“IDLE DELILAH”

Delilah was a curious girl much to the dismay of her mother.

Like other little girls she had a fondness of all things feminine and had a special affinity for her mother’s fancy vanity. She spent several hours at the gold-trimmed victorian mirrors applying scented face powders, and red lipstick under the care of her mammy Ms. Maisley. She was the youngest of the Lynch children. Her next sibling, John John, 7 years her senior spent his time playing with the Bush boys leaving Delilah all alone. John John’s summers were full of days playing catch, trapping unfamiliar insects, and fishing near Broken Black river. While Delilah spent most of her days sitting on her family’s front porch idling away, playing with imaginary friends, her Jacks, and the collection of dolls she amassed from her father’s travels; she longed to travel into the fields to make friends with some of the Negro children.

Maisley was one of the Lynch family’s eldest and wisest servants, and spent her life raising several generations of Lynch children, including Delilah’s father. Much to Maisley’s surprise, as repayment for her years of loyalty and care, her own son would lose his life to one of the children she spent her lifetime caring for.  When Delilah’s father was just becoming a man, barely old enough to herd cattle or control his own horse, he beat and murdered Maisley’s son for accidentally tipping and spilling a bail of cotton. It had been 23 years since Maisley gathered her son’s body from the bottom of the Artubus tree, or spoke her last word.  Nowadays, she sat quietly, responding gently to requests made of her, and watching little Delilah when Mrs. Lynch was away from the plantation, or otherwise occupied.

Ms. Maisley heard everything and saw even more.

Delilah’s mother, Lilith; was a compassionate but suspicious woman. Her family was one of the most affluent southern families of the time. They were descendants of the royal crown and since their arrival in the Americas, built a fortune trading cotton, tobacco, and slaves for a living. While most madams of similar stature, were full of pride, basking in the glory of their good fortune and prosperity, Lilith remained uneasy and lived with a gnawing fear. Instead of hosting lavish tea and dinner parties to posture for other wealthy families, she kept watch over Delilah; making sure she never wandered off the porch into the fields with their Negro slaves.

Lilith knew that people despised her husband just as much as they admired him.

She knew the stories of her family’s wealth, and the torture many slaves endured at the hands of her husband, “Luther Luciferian Lynch,” traveled far and wide across the south… patronizing the fears of slaves, while antagonizing the wealth and egos of other plantation owners, who’s fortunes paled in comparison to the Lynch family’s riches.

Luther Luciferian Lynch was as famous as he was rich. He was a famous writer and speaker who gave spirited instruction to other slave owners who aspired to be as wealthy as he, and who wanted to control unruly slaves.

Luther was as smart as he was destructive, but had no idea that the instruction his letters provided, would survive for thousands of years, lending direction long after he and his children’s children returned to the earth, on how to mangle and control the minds of countless generations of his slaves.

Although Luther was a cruel man, he adored Delilah.  He loved her more than any of his other children, and Delilah loved him dearly. “Idle Delilah” is what he called her, because whenever he returned from business trips, he would find Delilah sitting absolutely still, waiting for him on the family’s porch. Upon return from his business trips, Luther looked forward to the first glimpses of Delilah’s two red bows, round face, peachy cheeks, and trusting eyes when she stood up, after hearing his carriage approaching the plantation’s pebbled dirt road. Delilah knew whenever “poppa” would return from a trip, he would bring new toys, exciting stories, and other treats just for her.

It was only when Lilith recognized Luther’s blistery, red, sweaty skin… which had been permanently burned from his long carriage trips under the hot southern sun and his signature ivory-white suit, would she relax her watch over Delilah and permit her to run down the porch steps to greet him.

“Poppa!” Delilah would delightfully greet Luther. And in his southern redneck drawl, Luther would return Delilah’s warm greeting with a big hug and “What has my Idle Delilah been up to since I’ve been gone?” and immediately present his precious little girl with a new gift he picked out especially for her. As he carried his Delilah back to the house, the trail of affectionate chatter between Luther and his “Idle Delilah” would stir a sense of resentment in the Negros toiling in the fields. Too afraid to show signs of their loathing, each slave would quietly bow their heads and return their focus to picking, plowing, digging, and slowly dying in the Lynch fields. Despite their efforts to conceal their feelings, Lilith knew the Negros hated Luther just as much as they feared him.  And as much as she enjoyed the comfort and luxuries that their sacrifices granted, she felt dreadful about their suffering; but was very afraid that her husband’s b###### nature would turn on her, if she ever said a word. So as routine would have it, she quietly sympathized, bowed her head and gracefully moved into the interior of the great house.

Lilith knew that Delilah was curious. Little Delilah possessed a curiosity that transcended all reason, fear, and furtive warnings from her about the dangers of journeying off, and mingling with the Negroes who she knew loathed Luther.  Ignoring her mother’s warning, it was a daily occurrence, that Lilith would find Delilah behind the Negro quarters playing Jacks withAurelia,” a small Negro girl who befriended Delilah, and Delilah’s only friend.

Despite Aurelia’s mother’s warnings about the dangers of playing with Delilah, Aurelia would sneak off behind her shack to play with Delilah before she would be caught by Mrs. Lynch.

One day Aurelia’s luck had run out when she was caught playing with little Delilah by Mr. Lynch instead of the Mrs. Lynch. After chasing Aurelia into the fields and around the Arbutus tree that stood watch over the plantation, Mr. Lynch cornered Aurelia against the Arbutus, and began delivering powerful kicks, punches, and lashes to her frail adolescent body, as her mother stood by crippled with fear, too afraid to make a sound, or any attempt to help her suffering daughter. Aurelia’s mother knew that if she moved or made a sound, Mr. Lynch’s wrath would instantly turn on her, or force the life out of Aurelia’s bleeding body.

Aurelia’s mother remained absolutely still starring past her little girl into the dense vegetation that surrounded the arbutus tree, feeling ashamed and defeated, until she heard the door slam to Mr. Lynch’s home, before quickly moving in to lift Aurelia’s body from the bottom of the Arbutus tree.

As much as Luther Luciferian Lynch knew that he was admired, he knew he was hated.

And as much as Lilith missed Luther when he was traveling, she loved it when he was home. And as cruel as he was arrogant, Luther lived without fear.  Luther knew he had built up quite a dangerous reputation and never worried about being disobeyed by anyone, lest they suffer the violent consequences. It was Luther’s careless arrogance, and Lilith’s excitement to have him home after his recent travels, which left them both distracted one summer afternoon. It was late in the afternoon after all the slaves had left the fields and the house for the day, and Lilith and Luther retired to their bedroom with a bottle of gin Luther purchased during his trip. As the sun began its descent and the darkness of night began falling on the the Lynch family plantation, Delilah quickly and eagerly moved past the kitchen and out the back door without a trace. Maisley spotted Delilah as she hastily moved past her cabin and then the Arbutus tree, but said nothing. Maisley watched Delilah continue until the back of her frilly powder white dress disappeared into the dense dark forrest behind the Lynch property.

Kyle Rapps & Hefna Gwap (feat. Aaron Cohen) – "Searchin"

No matter how far Kyle Rapps, Hefna Gwap and Aaron Cohen go, they’ll always carry their neighborhoods on their back. Produced by Fudge, “Searchin,” borrows a slick sample of Roy Ayers’ hit of the same title, as originally featured on the ’71 release off his quinquennial LP, Ubiquity. The track seamlessly blends the off-the-record narrative of all three artists, as they reflect on their upbringing, fears, and individuality, as the beat builds over a set of breezy horns, and Biggie quotables. Directed by Jason Ano of ASAP Rocky’s “Purple Swag” fame, “Searchin,” shows us that in a time when the Internet has become the stomping ground for artists to exhibit their talent, your own community is still important. “Searchin” is now available on Kyle Rapps & Hefna Gwap’s free release, European Tic Tacs, which can be downloaded via Mishka’s Bandcamp page…enjoy!

Oprah Winfrey And Ava DuVernay Discuss What MLK's Family Thought About 'Selma' And More

While the cast of the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic, Selma, were in New York City, Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay spoke about how the film has been received and why there aren’t more films like it in the forefront.

DuVernay, who directed the movie, says these engaging films have always been being made but there is a “certain gaze on them now.”

“There are some that have had a spotlight placed on them, but I mean, as a black independent filmmaker, there’s been a continuum of beautiful things made,” she said. “I think now you have a resurgence of attention around some beautiful things, whether it be Fruitvale Station, 12 Years, and The Butler last year, or this year with Belle, with Beyond the Lights, with Dear White People. I mean, it’s there. There are more coming next year, but they’ve always been. And so I think the charge is to make sure that they remain in a place of consistency. And we talk a lot about black, but what about brown, what about indigenous, what Asian? I mean, you know, it’s just there’s not enough diversity behind the camera, it’s really about getting storytellers, giving the storytellers of all kinds the ability to let their voice be heard. That’s my hope.”

Oprah, who portrayed civil rights activist Annie Lee Cooper, says that Selma has garnered a positive response from the King family. She added that Martin Luther King Jr.’s children, Bernice and Martin III, loved the film so much that they’ve seen it twice.

“They’re really impressed with Carmen,” referring to Carmen Ejogo who played Coretta Scott King. “They think that Carmen really depicted their mother beautifully and felt equally so about David’s portrayal of Dr. King. So they’re pretty pleased with the film.”

Selma hits theaters Christmas day.

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne may be in the middle of a public feud with his label Cash Money Records, but Weezy still took the time to get some new body ink. LWHQ reports Tunechi met with a California based tattoo artist named Spider, and the Young Money boss added an eye and “Mumma’s Boy” in Arabic to his face.

The new eye tat on Wayne’s chin resembles the “Eye Of Providence” or “All Seeing Eye” that is found on the U.S. dollar bill. Conspiracy theorists contend the image represents the Illuminati’s New World Order, but the Eye of Providence has also been connected to the ancient Egyptian (or Kemetian) symbol known as the “Eye Of Horus” which embodies wisdom, protection, and good health.

Besides wanting to leave Cash Money, Wayne has gone through other major changes recently as well. Game Defends Making "I Guess Y'all Can't Breathe Either" Statement After Killing Of 2 NYC Cops

(AllHipHop News) Emotions are extremely high for people across the country as the discussion over excessive force by cops and respect for police was escalated after NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were killed on Saturday. The incident caused many observers to voice their opinions on social media, including California rapper Game.

The “Don’t Shoot” rhymer used his Instagram page to post what has been seen as a controversial message. Game received backlash for writing, “I guess y’all ‘can’t breathe’ either.”

Critics took Game’s statement as disrespectful toward the lives and family members of Liu and Ramos who were gunned down while simply sitting in their police car in Brooklyn. Game returned to IG to explain the original post was not directed at the two slain officers. He contends it was a response to pro-police protesters that had been mocking the “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirts created to show support for Eric Garner.

Game IG 2

Game wrote in the picture’s caption.

The comment in my last post was a DIRECT RESPONSE to the picture above: I didn’t say it was cool that 2 cops were murdered senselessly while sitting in their car. These weren’t the cop(s) that killed ERIC GARNER so it wasn’t necessary they die in that manner the same as it wasn’t AT ALL necessary ERIC GARNER die in the way he did. My comment also suggested that #AllLivesMatter &#S**tNeedsToChangeNow but you simple minded f**ks skipped right over the real message to pull whatever negativity you could from my post… As expected. One thing about me is, I’m ME. I’m not running from my views or opinions & I’m standing firm on anything I say.. So while all of you trying to find the HATE in my post, there is NONE. What their is…. is an opinion of a man that believes the deaths of innocent people are never OKAY. Never has been !!! It just so happens, that I’m BLACK. It just so happens I grew up as a minority & have been a victim of racial profiling & police harassment in my youth the same as many so I can relate to the continuous STRUGGLE to change the way the GOVERNMENT deals with it’s own employees when they’re supposed to be highly trained professionals who loosely abuse the right to them wearing the badge given to them. “PROTECT & SERVE” does not mean “CHOKE & KILL” an innocent un-armed man…. Retaliating for Eric Garner’s murder the way the MEDIA portrays it happened wasn’t the answer either but it happened…. SO WHAT NOW… Do police KILL more civilians ??? Or do civilians KILL more police ??? Y’all can’t see what’s happening to our country ? Or all YALL still too focused on an iPhone app to get off of it to take a REAL LOOK AROUND ??? & you ask me, do I like police: NO !!! Do I hate police: NO !!! Have I experienced more police abusing their authority than not: YES !!! So that’s why “I” say F**K THE POLICE !!! That’s “MY OPINION”…. Does that mean I think it’s dope that 2 innocent cops were murdered: NOPE. But does it change my view on crooked police: NOPE !!! So… You can hate me, not like me, say F**K GAME or UNFOLLOW or never support my MUSIC again because I have an opinion… SO WHAT, I DO NOT GIVE A F**K !!! [To Be Continued..]

Report: New York City Seeking Federal Court Approval To Mass Arrest Protesters

(AllHipHop News) In 2011, the New York Police Department arrested nearly 700 Occupy Wall Street protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge. The protesters sued the city on the grounds that police led them onto the bridge and then arrested them without adequate warning.

[ALSO READ: Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye and Russell #OccupyWallStreet!]

A federal court ruled that Occupy’s lawsuit could proceed. Judge Jed Rakoff agreed that by the cops walking in front of the protesters it gave “an implicit invitation to follow.” The ruling also stated the protesters’ constitutional rights were violated and the police did not have cause to arrest them. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the ruling in August.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has now agreed to the city’s request for the case to be heard at an en banc hearing before all 22 judges. This could effectively prevent the case from going to trial.

This could have a direct impact on the current protests that have been taking place in New York. NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton stated there would not be any mass arrests of the “Black Lives Matter” protesters. Bratton explained that decision recently by saying, “When you lock up five or six hundred people all at the same time, you don’t have what the courts require to successfully prosecute.”

Despite that statement, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration is still attempting to have the Occupy Wall Street case thrown out. Legal experts on the side of the protesters see that move as seeking approval for the NYPD to have the power to make arrests in mass.

“Mayor de Blasio, even though he says that he supports peaceful protest with those rulings that held the police in check, now he’s trying to unravel them,” said the legal director for the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund Carl Messineo.

PCJF legal director Verheyden-Hilliard added, “That is what the courts were ruling on. Simply the fact that police cannot mass arrest people without notice and opportunity to comply with an order; notably as here they were led and escorted out onto the bridge. So by seeking to overturn that order New York City is seeking the power to conduct sweeping mass arrests without people having any clue that they’ve done anything wrong and are going to be arrested, and no opportunity to comply with any order that they should disperse.”

The protester’s side is wary about the upcoming hearing, but New York City representatives are looking forward to presenting their arguments before the Second Circuit.

“We are pleased that the full court has decided to hear the case,” said a New York Law Department spokesperson.
