Young Blake’s music exemplifies his experiences growing up. He is a versatile artist capable of making Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop music. Young Blake has also always had a keen ear for music as he also plays the piano, drums, sax, and guitar. His latest single is a collaboration with Snootie Wild. Young Blake reached out to Snootie Wild on social media and the rest was history! Within a few weeks the two were in the studio together.
“We wanted something real, we wanted to do it the right way..not sending a track to each other you know but being in the studio with a producer and vibing.” says Young Blake. “My team was introduced to Rob “Push” Coleman a consultant out of Atlanta who put us with Grammy Award-winning Producer Magnedo 7 of We Got Hits. Magnedo constructed the track on the spot while we thought out our ideas and began writing. The vibe was great making it easy to write, resulting in us recording it and finishing it that night.”
Check out the video for the single below.
Athletic. Skilled. Undefeated. These are just some of the favorable attributed of Philly heavyweight Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs), who has the fight of his life Saturday (April 25) when he faces tenured champion Wladimir Klitschko on HBO.
Klitschko has more KOs than Jennings does fights. The champion’s current reign dates back nearly 10 years with 17 successful defenses. Overall, his 22 title defenses is second all-time behind Joe Louis (25). His left jab can be viewed as a power punch for its punishing effect on opponents. His left hooks and right hands s#### out consciousness with equal fervor. But Klitschko is an aging champ (39), and Jennings has recently developed into a legit threat via his wins over top contenders in Mike Perez and Artur Szpilka.
Is it possible the Upset of the Year is looming for Saturday?
KnockoutNation: Wladimir Klitschko’s reign has been dominant and has many debating his all-time ranking. Out of everything he does well, what has most impressed you about him?
Jennings: Hmmm… protecting that chin.
KnockoutNation: So even after going more more than 10 years without getting KO’d, you still think Wladimir’s chin is fragile?
Jennings: You can’t “improve” the chin. I guess it’s something that’s neurologically proven; you can’t just strengthen it. The best way to handle it is to avoid getting hit. It’s not something you can practice like “Oh, let me take this type of shot and see if I can take it.” Nah, he’s done a great job of protecting it.
KnockoutNation: Well something you can develop is remaining calm under fire, right? Don’t you think he’s done a good job of keeping his composure when guys attempt to go after him?
Jennings: He does stay relaxed under pressure. Now when he gets rocked it may look like he’s panicking. A lot of that is just having to think quick when you’re hurt. I’d say with him it’s more “controlled panic” now.
KnockoutNation: How concerned are you about not just Klitschko’s clinching, but his tactic of leaning his full weight on opponents to tire them out?
Jennings: I’m very concerned. My trainers are definitely on that and will be on the referee. You can’t win a fight holding. We all know how much he holds. It’s very aggravating.
KnockoutNation: Per the rules, clinching is a foul should it get excessive. If it happens and continues unabated by the ref, are you willing to make Klitschko pay for it with elbows, forearms and other methods?
Jennings: Yes, not blatantly of course. It’s a natural reaction if you keep getting held. If it happens, that’s what you get for holding. In boxing you make quick reactions. When you get out of a clinch, you’re trying to regain positioning quickly but still be smart. If I just swing wildly and hit him in the back of the head and he goes down knocked out, would I win the title? Would I be wrong?
KnockoutNation: Good point. Considering what we saw in New York a few weeks back with Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, how much of that “you gotta take the title from the champion” mentality are you bringing to this fight?
Jennings: I know I have bring it to him. I have to convince the judges in every round, no doubt.
KnockoutNation: Should you defeat Klitschko, the only other relevant belt is the WBC title held by Deontay Wilder. Considering that you’d be the lineal and recognized champ, how important would it still be for you to push the unification?
Jennings: Bring that s### over here. It is still necessary just to finalize things. You have to get in, make it hot, influence some people, get a legacy going and then you have to make decisions about how long you want to be in it. This game is not meant to be in it for a long period of time.
But this here is enough. It’s for all the belts that matter.
KnockoutNation: Madison Square Garden isn’t Brooklyn, but its close enough for Shannon Briggs to keep up his antics on fight night. How much of a distraction is he to this event?
Jennings:Shannon can’t disrupt anything, he’s cool. He can’t disrupt my energy. He can do anything he wants. Maybe it’ll take away some energy from Wlad.
KnockoutNation: Final thoughts on Klitschko and how you envision this fight going?
Jennings: He’s kind of like myself. He’s a well-spoken, distinguished guy. He’s charming but I’m not letting my guard down. I know he’s still out to take my f###### head off.
It will end in a knockout. It can go either way. I respect all possibilities and seeing who can withstand it.

If you happen to be located around Washington, DC and into hip hop then there’s a really good chance that you’ve heard of Broccoli City Festival. While Trillectro Music Festival might be the most known festival in the District, BCFest has started to become yet another festival in the city that’s garnering the attention of cool kids and festival-goers alike. Scheduled around Earth Day, the focus of the festival is to inspire guests to live a healthier lifestyle in the urban communities.
Along with the activities, vendors, and exhibits that have reinforced it’s goals for the last two years, BCFest has also brought together a plethora of dope musical artists to take the stage. Last year alone, Cam’ron, Chuck Inglish, Just Blaze, Sango, Goldlink, and Kelela are just a few of the unique talent that performed at the event, along with DC’s best talent added to an already strong lineup. This year’s festival has Grammy-nominated singer Erykah Badu headlining, with Thundercat on the bass during her set. Sounds good, right? But there’s a lot more unique talent set to perform at BCFest, and we found five artists that you need to stop and go see perform if you’re going to be there this year.

Joey Bada$$
For all you hip hop heads going to BCFest, we know you’re excited about Joey Bada$$ taking the stage. There’s a really good chance that you’ve still have his debut album B4.DA.$$ in rotation, and that’s never a bad thing. The 90’s swagger of Joey’s sound is something that hip hop desperately needed as a break from the normalities of the South and the West Coast sound. We get the feeling that Bada$$’s single “No. 99” will make the whole crowd go crazy, and turn Broccoli City Fest into an old school hip hop show.

Jaden & Willow Smith
Jaden and Willow might appear on social media and blogs consistently for their bizarre outfits and behavior, but these two siblings can back it up with their dope catalogue of music. Willow Smith has moved far away from “Whip My Hair”. Her voice and sound is a reincarnation of the soul that artists like Jill Scott & Erykah Badu had in their humble beginnings (and still do now), along with the odd personality she adds to her music. Willow’s brother, on the other hand, is one of the most underrated rappers out now. Jaden’s lyrical skills are top-tier, and uses his rhymes to tell stories about his experiences. While Willow was surprisingly showing up at performances with artists like SZA last year, Jaden was converting listeners into fans by consecutively dropping projects and loose singles. When these two are on a track together, their unified chemistry will attract your ears with both dope rhymes and beautifully crafted vocals.

Kaytranada
This Montreal producer was considered a Punishing New Age Producer in our normal column, The Odd Side, and chances are that he will kill his set at BCFest. This year alone, Kaytra’s been working with Vic Mensa, Freddie Gibbs, Mic Jenkins, and that’s only three names off the top. He just released a newly produced track with Towkio from SaveMoney featuring Vic Mensa earlier this week! Not only does Kaytranada make some seriously dope original content, but he can make some good remixes. He’s made production remixes for music by Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu, Common, Amerie, T.I., the list goes on. There’s also a chance that he’ll drop some more music from his upcoming album. When Kaytranada hits the turntables, drop whatever your doing and go see him immediately.

Sunny & Gabe
It wouldn’t be right to not a DMV artist on this list, but these two earned their spot. Sunny & Gabe is a duo out of Norfolk, Virginia. While Sunny adds her soothing voice to each track, Gabe is definitely killing it with the beats. Their sound is pretty broad, however, their catalogue can reach out to many different types of listeners. Recently, Sunny & Gabe teamed up with fellow Virginian D.R.A.M. for a their latest single “I Luv It”. Definitely excited to see these two perform and show the crowd how they get down.

Marlee In The Mixx x Ras Nesbyu
Last but not least, we have a DC rapper and a DC band collaborating at BC Fest this year. Ras Nesbyu is a rapper that’s been in the game for a while, but his track “Futuristic Black Man” is killer. Marlee In The Mixx has a cool catalogue that’ll give you chill vibes as well. It’ll be pretty interesting to see how these two acts will perform together.
After making an appearance on Sway In The Morning and talking with Boss Lady on DASH Radio, artist-on-the-rise D-Shep delivers his long-awaited Identity Crisis project. Shep’s new LP comes filled with 21 track without any features, which showcases his talents as a solo artist and further proves his capability of providing top notch work while standing on his own two. Stream D-Shep’s new album “Identity Crisis” below.
The Knux have released the first visual off their forthcoming project Eleven with the help of director Guillermo Polo (Turanga Films). The trippy late night scenario plays out as Krispy receives a late night text to hook up. Portrayed through a first person point of view, the video for “Mirage” is guided by a heavy bassline that takes us on a late night excursion to the bedroom. Produced by The Knux, with co-production from Speakerbomb, “Mirage” puts you in the driver’s seat for one wild night.
As of late, Midwest native J.R. has been busy working on his anticipated mixtape No Filter. With his single “I’m Just Sayin” getting a generous amount of love not only in the streets, but on Sirius XM radio as well, the upstart from St. Louis looks to hold eager fans over in the meantime with a mixtape before his official mixtape drops. J.R.’s new prelude tape includes 6 songs to add to your rotation and it also features a remix of his popular single with Nelly and Tiffany Foxx.
Madison, WI based Rap rebel MCity aims high with his latest street album entitled “City Lights.” It is a solid effort, and it fully exhibits his dedication to his craft. It features his trademark lyrical dexterity and riveting street flair. There are dope lyrics and plenty of food for thought on the project. Highlights on the project include “State Of Mind,” “Riding,” and “Family.” MCity is best known for his freestyles and MC battling skills. However, he does a great job on the mixtape developing solid songs and taking the listener on a journey into his world.
Bankroll Fresh releases his brand new mixtape “Life Of A Hot Boy 2 (Real Trapper)”, consisting of 20 new tracks with features from Spodee & Travis Porter and production by FKi, D Rich, Zaytoven & Cassius Jay. Listen below download here.
