Dynas already has history with Dilla, as he produced the title track, “The Apartment”, from Dynas’ 2009 LP on BBE (which also included production from Illmind, DJ Jazzy Jeff, S1 & DJ Spinna) and on “What Up”, Tony Galvin channels his inner Dilla for this heart-felt ode to the beloved artist.

Alicia Keys To Be Honored At The Grammy's On The Hill Awards

Alicia Keys may have not snagged any gramophones at this year’s Grammy’s but they are honoring her in a different way.

According to reports, the “It’s On Again” singer is being honored at their Grammy’s On The Hill Awards ceremony on Apr. 15th in Washington. D.C at Hamilton Live. The native New Yorker is being presented with the Recording Artists’ Coalition Award for her musical influence and philanthropic accomplishments.

“We know that she will bring the same dedication to creators’ rights as she does to her global philanthropic efforts,” said Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow.

She’s also a founding member of The Academy’s new GRAMMY Creators Alliance.

Keys is slated to have a new album drop this year that will focus more on social issues.

“With this album, I find I have much more I want to talk about”, she told WWD last year. “This album is more about the concept, the thought I’m trying to get across, where in the past it’s been more about the melody. This time it’s more about what we’re going through as human beings.”

Are Bey-Z Having Marital Problems?

Photo via Beyonce’s Instagram

Queen Bey and King Hov’s relationship seems to be perfect…. well there was that elevator fight and another paternity suit for Jay lol. The latest buzz about Hip-Hop’s royal couple, Jay Z and Beyonce, is that they allegedly had a public dispute while dining at a restaurant.

According to Crazy Days And Nights:

For the first time I can remember, the two lost their cool in public where at least four other diners and a couple of waiters in a private room witnessed them having a blowout fight. Granted, this only comes from two people who were in the room but once tabloids and wallets start digging perhaps they can get the waiters to spill. The two were at dinner and had just had appetizers brought to the table. A bodyguard was in one corner of the room seated at a table looking around but mostly looking at his phone. Beyonce started speaking louder and louder and Jay tried to get her to be quiet while looking around. The bodyguard started watching the scene and stopped looking at his phone but did not get up. Things settled down when Jay whispered in Beyonce’s ear. About ten minutes later Beyonce said something else and whatever Jay said didn’t seem to work. He shrugged his shoulders and Beyonce started pointing at him and leaned over the table and got closer to his face and started talking louder. She then said one last thing, pushed back her chair and threw her napkin on the table before getting up and headed towards the door. She motioned for the bodyguard to follow her and walked out the door to the room to the main part of the restaurant. By the time she got to the door, Jay had thrown literally a stack of money on the table and was chasing after her.

If there’s any truth in this, it’s not like married couples don’t have disagreements anyway. Hmmmm we wonder is this the same public spat from February or something new?

PREMIERE: Accent Ft. Kxng Crooked & King Deco – "Starshine"

New York City rapper Accent garnered serious attention with his Skyzoo-assisted single “Paper Game.” The East Village representative follows up that track with the new cut “Starshine” featuring Kxng Crooked and King Deco. Produced by Judge, “Starshine” will appear on Accent’s upcoming free album The Last Lyricist.

Accent tells AllHipHop.com:

“Starshine” is about providing relief to Hip Hop fans with standards for lyrics and content. In an age where the easiest rap to access is dominated by whatever style or flow may be trending, it’s refreshing to find that there are still rappers who want to show their ability and talk about real issues.

It’s really crazy to me that I landed a collaboration with such a juggernaut of a rapper, and a member of Eminem’s Slaughterhouse team at that. Kxng Crooked’s delivery is so fierce, his already reputable tenure has obviously not affected his hunger. I just couldn’t get over how clean his verse was on “Starshine”; despite the intensity and speed of his recital he maintains control all throughout it.

As for King Deco, some of the themes that came up in the conceptualization of “Starshine” overlapped with key elements of what she calls the “decosphere” which I tend to think of as the aesthetic she creates with her imagery. In the hook, she almost personifies the North Star, offering a guiding light to those spiraling through a seemingly endless circle of desert. This idea is a metaphor for what Crooked and I speak more literally about.

Kylie Jenner is reportedly releasing a song with her boo Tyga and adding the not-so fan favorite rapper Iggy Azalea. "Life After Death" 18th Anniversary Tribute

Life after death? We all strive for something more when we leave this earth, whether it’s eternal life through our faith, living forever through our impact on the masses, or simply leaving our loved ones with fond memories to remain forever in their hearts. 18 years. That’s how long it’s been since Biggie’s eerily prophetic Life After Death was unveiled to the world. The last chapter of a legacy, the end of an era, and yet the effects of this gifted MC’s rhymes continues to reverberate through the Hip Hop community, like a forever beating drum, marking the everlasting presence of one of the greatest MC’s to ever bless the mic. Lifestyle or shortcomings aside, Big has certainly achieved life after death.

With vivid imagery worthy of the box office and tales of street woes conveyed with such sincerity and realism, listening to LAD would almost make you believe that you were a witness to all of the chaos on the Brooklyn block. Biggie really displays this ability on the track “Somebody’s Gotta Die” in which he details an attempt for revenge gone much awry- an occurrence which is still very much a harsh reality in many communities across America. And still he manages to release this dark tension through much of the album with tracks like the chuckle-inducing “Kick in the Door” and “I Got a Story to Tell”. Biggie also lives up to his playa rep by making sure not to leave the ladies in the cold, with the feel good sing along “Hypnotize”, “F*ck You Tonight” featuring R. Kelly, and the all too relatable “Another”.

Also, included in this project is an all-star ensemble of features such as R. Kelly, The Lox, Jay- Z, and Too Short. Certainly making their presence felt on the album are Bone Thugs-N- Harmony, being featured on what in my opinion is the standout track of the album on the better disc of the two. In fact, “Notorious Thugs” displays about the best combination of lyricism, flow, and production that you will ever hear. The chemistry between Biggie and Bone Thugs is brilliant; all delivered over beautiful pianos and roaring bass lines. Another standout track that displays such skillful production is the inspirational “Sky’s the Limit”. I always get an unexplainable feeling from this one and find the inspiration to achieve my goals in times of doubt. This track is also a great change of pace from the harshness and hedonism of much of the album, no matter how great the production and flows are throughout. “The World is Filled” is also of note in the change in pace of the production. Too Short, true to form, provides classic commentary on “the world being filled with pimps and hoes” and Puffy delivers a solid verse as well.

So where does Life After Death sit in the annals of time? A classic delivered by a gifted man, pivotal to the development of this profound, diverse culture we call Hip Hop. I often times find myself in debate over which is greater, Ready to Die or Life After Death, but does it really matter? Both are landmarks of a great talent, which ironically mark the beginning and end of an influential career. And despite this overarching theme of death, he still lives on. Life After Death.
