Radio Personality Star Blasts 50 Cent, G-Unit, & ThisIs50 Radio (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Troi “Star” Torain is no stranger to controversy. The veteran radio personality has made a career out of being an agitator or as he describes it a “culture critic.” His latest targets are ThisIs50 Radio, 50 Cent, and G-Unit.

Star apparently took issue with Philadelphia rapper Tone Trump’s interview on Thisis50 with Hynaken, DJ Thoro, and Star’s cousin Gossip Viv. While on the program, the Trump Life emcee suggested that Star was “doing bad” and that he was “one of his three listeners.” Trump claimed the two had issues from what he saw as Star setting him up during a radio interview in Philadelphia years ago.

Star used his own show to fire back at Trump and ThisIs50 as well. The Shot97 host referred to the employees at the company as “hoe ass n***as.” Star claimed that someone from the station had G-Unit’s Nelson contact him to squash the situation. He then took shots at 50 Cent and G-unit for participating in Cyndi Lauper’s “Home For The Holidays” benefit concert for homeless LGBT youth.

“50 and G-unit are headlining some f**king gay-lesbian concert,” said Star before shaking his head at the camera. “The f**kery that G-Unit is now doing.”

While he mentioned 50 and his rap crew by name, Star’s harshest words came for the Queens rapper’s other brand.

“Viv called me to say Tone Trump was coming at me. I said, ‘Okay, when is this going to be loaded up?’ You did your little edit job. Your s**t’s not streaming nowhere. You’re a f**king big garbage can,”  expressed Star. “You thought you were just going to put a clip up on me, and I’m just going to say, ‘Ha ha. ThisIs50. G-Unit.’ Motherf**k you! F**k the whole system you got up there. You n***as make about as much money as a Burger King worker with the exception of the fact that a Burger King worker gets a f**king holiday bonus. You bum ass n***as.”

Star does add that he has does not have a problem with Viv or Hynaken. He even suggests that Hynaken could actually make more money going at 50 in YouTube vlogs than what he is currently making at ThisIs50.

Top 5 Horror Movies: Ganksta NIP Edition

Hip-Hop and Horror actually have a very storied history since the 1980’s. The man credited with creating the genre of Horrorcore is none other than Ganksta NIP, the legendary rapper from the Rap-A-Lot Records camp.

We had to get NIP’s favorite horror movie characters – all out of order. Also, if you need your audio fix, check out NIP’s new album, God of Horrorcore.

RELATED: Ganxta NIP: The Psycho Becomes A God Of Horrorcore

HANNIBAL

Hannibal has endured as one of the most gruesome characters to jump from written pages to the silver screen in 1991’s award-winning movie “Silence of the Lambs”. The movie is a classic but the character has lived on. Most recently, Hannibal showed up in a particularly graphic TV series that debuted in 2013.

Nip says: My homeboy Hannibal gotta be Number 1, man. That’s my lil’ homey right there. “Clarice.” This boy talking to Clarice so calmly and at the same time, he’s cutting the dude’s brains, putting it in the skillet. That’s my dog there. That’s my top dog – period point blank.

NORMAN BATES

Norman Bates was created by author Robert Bloch in a book Psycho. It wasn’t until Anthony Perkins played the character in the 1960 film of the same name that the legend took flight. Shout out to the Alfred Hitchcock for directing the original movie and its sequels. The Bates Motel, a TV series inspired by the movie is in its fourth season.

Nip says: You also got my homeboy Norman Bates. That’s my homey too. But, what I like about Norman is he didn’t look like a psychopath. He at the hotel. If you looked – at the hotel – he was cordial. Nice and cordial. He dressed neat. You didn’t have an idea of him being the killer that he was. That what I liked about him. [laughs]

FREDDY KRUEGER

Why mess with somebody’s sleep? That’s exactly what Freddy Krueger did. He decimated the sleep patterns of those in the A Nightmare on Elm Street movie franchise and those at home. He’s been around since 1984 and is still scaring the crap out of people.

Nip says: You know I got to say Freddy Krueger. Freddy, he might be anywhere. You can’t run from him.

JASON

“Friday The 13th” is another horror movie series that debuted in the 80’s. The killer was a guy named Jason Voorhees. You may have heard the likes of Kendrick Lamar drop the name. At this point, Jason is a mass murdering icon that has appeared in comic books, movies, books and even a cross-over movie with Freddy Kruger.

Nip says: Then there’s Jason. Jason is a straight killer.

CANDYMAN

The only Black horror figure on the list is a dark, shadowy figure by the name of Candyman. Candyman had to be summoned and when he was, the killing commenced. A infantile grad student studying urban legends brings Candyman to life and the dying begins.

Nip says: My Number Zero would have to be Candy Man. “Say my name three times like Candy Man.” Say his name. He comes out. He’s got a fly coat. He’s really a fly dude, you know what I’m saying? Then he would appeared. Once he appears, you know what it is. The best thing about Candy Man is…you had to believe it. You had to believe. That’s why with this new albums, God of Horrorcore, you gonna believe. Come into my world again. [Laughs]

Later in the interview Ab-Soul reveals that there is a CDQ version of the track “Druggys With Hoes Part 3” with Schoolboy Q. The duo debuted the song at a performance in April. Soul was asked if the official song will ever be released.

“I think the funniest s**t at the MTV Awards when we had the beef with Fat Joe – shout out Fat Joe. It ain’t no beef now,” recalls Yayo. “It was me, Ma$e, I think Olivia, and Fif in the car. Ma$e was like, ‘Yeah, I should have pulled out my ninja knife.’ I was bugging.”

Banks and Yayo also discuss the friendly jabs that takes place between themselves and the G-Unit leader 50 Cent. During the conversation, they crack a few jokes at the Queens rapper’s expense. Especially, when Envy brings up the G-Unit tank tops.

“He drew the colors on that wife-beater,” said Banks. “We were on our way to a concert, and he had the wife-beater and a regular red marker and a black marker. He just started drawing boxes. I’m like, ‘What the f**k?'”

“Me and Banks, we like Louis. We like Hermès. We like the Foams,” added Yayo. “50 the type of n***a that be like [imitating 50 Cent’s voice], ‘You know it costs two dollars to make those. You paid $200 for those. You’re crazy.”

“He’s like a rich-broke n***a,” joked Banks.

Yayo and Banks then go on to reveal that they had to convince 50 to wear a throwback cap on his 50 Cent Is The Future mixtape cover and clown him for buying knockoff Timberland boots.

Chicago Rapper Bandman Kevo Allegedly Connected To Rap Video/Bank Fraud Conspiracy

(AllHipHop News) Two months ago Kevin “Bandman Kevo” Ford was a rising artist featured in AllHipHop.com’s “Breeding Ground” section. Today the 26-year-old Chicago rapper is being charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

[ALSO READ: 5 & Done: Bandman Kevo]

NWI Times reports Kevo and 28 other defendants were charged in two separate states for an elaborate scheme that supposedly included using coded language in rap videos referring to “cracking cards” as well as social media to promote the operation. Authorities claim banks lost hundreds of thousands of dollars as a result.

Kevo and others are accused of convincing bank customers to share their debit card and personal identification numbers. They then allegedly deposited counterfeit checks into third party accounts and later withdrew money from ATMs. By the time the banks discovered the checks were frauds, the money had already been advanced to the bogus accounts.

Kevo was among six people charged in U.S. District Court in Indiana. Other people allegedly connected to the conspiracy were charged in Chicago with separate counts including bank fraud, financial institution fraud, and wire fraud.

Nurse Defies Mandatory Ebola Quarantine

Despite assisting with the treatment of Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, after returning to the U.S. nurse Kaci Hickox is now refusing to adhere to a quarantine mandated by Maine Governor Paul LePage, which would confine her to her home for 21 days, the necessary time needed to ensure that she has not been infected.

Hickox is claiming that the precaution is “not scientifically nor constitutionally just.”

Though to date she has not shown any symptoms, officials have implemented the quarantine in an effort to monitor for any potential signs of infection, however Hickox is fighting back and claims that she will not follow isolation orders. She was recently seen out riding her bike alongside her boyfriend with whom she is currently staying.

She may not have a choice however; as officials are taking a more stringent approach after the recent emergence of the Ebola virus in the U.S.

According to Maine’s Health and Human Services commissioner Mary Mayhew, “We are hopeful that the selfless health workers who are brave and caring enough to care for Ebola patients in a foreign country will be willing to take reasonable steps to protect the residents of their own country,” she added “However, we will pursue legal authority, if necessary, to ensure risks is minimized for all Mainers.”

This comes on the heels of New York physician Craig Spencer, who after returning from West Africa admitted that he had traveled throughout the city before testing positive for Ebola.

Nile Rodgers To Be Honored By Recording Academy During Grammy Week

The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing® will celebrate its eighth annual GRAMMY® Week event honoring three-time GRAMMY winner Nile Rodgers for his commitment to excellence and ongoing support for the art and craft of recorded music. Michael Ostin and Cameron Strang will serve as honorary event co-chairs at the event to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at The Village studios in West Los Angeles. GRAMMY Week culminates with the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards® on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, airing live on the CBS Television Network, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

“Our Producers & Engineers Wing members are passionate about sound quality, the importance of music creators, and most of all, the integrity of recorded music,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. “This year, it is with great pride that we honor a musical icon who is the epitome of everything the P&E Wing represents. Nile Rodgers is not only a revered member of the music community but also a founding member of the Wing and we look forward to celebrating his astonishing career, which continues to reach new musical heights and inspire generations.”

A musician, composer, arranger and guitarist, Rodgers is one of the most influential music producers in the history of popular music. He began his career as a session guitarist in New York, first toured as a teenager with the “Sesame Street” band, and played with the house band at Harlem’s world famous Apollo Theater. In 1970 Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards met and formed the Big Apple Band. In 1977 the band changed their name to Chic and subsequently generated chart-topping hits such as “Le Freak,” “I Want Your Love,” “Everybody Dance,” and “Good Times.” Chic’s success soon led to producing opportunities for Rodgers and Edwards, among them albums such as Sister Sledge’s We Are Family and Diana Ross’ Diana.

Following Chic’s dissolution in 1983, Rodgers embarked on a solo production career that launched hits for artists such as David Bowie, INXS, Duran Duran, Madonna, Sheena Easton, Jeff Beck, the Thompson Twins, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Howard Jones, the B-52’s, and Al Jarreau, among others. Rodgers’ work with a variety of popular artists soon led to opportunities to share his distinct sound on film soundtracks such as Alphabet City, Gremlins, Against All Odds, That’s Dancing, White Nights, The Fly, White Hot, and Earth Girls Are Easy, in addition to collaborating with Peter Gabriel on Laurie Anderson’s concert film Home Of The Brave. In 1988 Rodgers composed his first orchestral score for the film Coming To America.

In the ’90s Rodgers produced the Vaughan Brothers Family Style, which was released shortly after the untimely death of guitar virtuoso Stevie Ray Vaughan, along with projects for Bowie, Eric Clapton, the B-52s, David Lee Roth, Ric Ocasek, Dan Reed Network, Cathy Dennis, Patty Griffin, Jimmie Vaughan, and The Stray Cats among others, along with continued soundtrack work on films such as Thelma and Louise, Cool World and Beavis And Butt-Head. In 1992, Rodgers and Edwards revisited Chic’s roots and released a new album, Chic-Ism. In 1996 tragedy struck when, during a series of Chic concerts in Japan, Edwards contracted pneumonia and died, a blow that greatly affected Rodgers. Although devastated by the loss of his longtime musical partner and close friend, Rodgers ultimately regrouped and returned to playing live concerts and composing and producing music for film soundtracks including work on Beverly Hills Cop III, Blue Chips, The Flintstones, and Feeling Minnesota (including a collaboration with Bob Dylan).

Prompted by the Sept.11 tragedies, Rodgers created the We Are Family Foundation to help promote the healing process and organized a rerecording of “We Are Family,” the GRAMMY Hall of Fame®-inducted song he and Edwards wrote for Sister Sledge. The rerecording was performed by more than 200 musicians, celebrities, and personalities and included a music video filmed by Spike Lee, a documentary filmed by Danny Schechter and a video version for kids that included more than 100 beloved children’s characters. Rodgers has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts as well as music achievements by being honored with innumerable awards, among them The Recording Academy’s NY Chapter’s Heroes Award, induction into the Dance Music Hall of Fame, No. 1 Singles Producer In The World by Billboard, and the Winter Music Conference Lifetime Achievement award.

Rodger’s career has seen a strong resurgence in the electronic dance community through his work with such acts as Avicii, Disclosure and Tensnake. His collaboration with Daft Punk on their album Random Access Memories garnered him three GRAMMY Awards for 2013 including Album Of The Year and Song Of The Year. Rodger’s continues to tour worldwide and remains one of the most in-demand producers and artists of his time.

As the Producers & Engineers Wing 2015 honoree, Rodgers joins an impressive list of past honorees: Chris Blackwell; T Bone Burnett; Tom Dowd; Ahmet and Nesuhi Ertegun; Jimmy Iovine; Quincy Jones; Arif Mardin; Al Schmitt; Jerry Wexler; and Neil Young.
