Hip-Hop Rumors: Kelly Rowland Shows Off Baby Belly, Illseed Cries

Illseed_loves_kelly_rowland
Y’all don’t know. A few years ago, I felt like I had a shot with Kelly Rowland. AllHipHop writers were putting a word in. I gave them my actual real face and picture. He seemed to show some interest back in the day. Well, now Kelly is all married and happy. I failed and I’m straight up hating like a playa hata. Anyway, below is a pic of Kelly doing her thing with Mama Knowles.

Damn. People are all happy and sh*t. And I’m miserable with no company.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Will “Holler If Ya Hear Me” Tour America?

Just because “Holler If Ya Hear Me” didn’t quite smash it on Broadway doesn’t mean it is over. I am hearing some rumors that the musical play, based on the lyrics of Tupac Shakur, may find new life outside of New York City. The word is it MAY continue to tour America as a roving production in other urban areas.

For now, it is ending its relatively brief run on Broadway next week. It is essentially the first “Hip-Hop” production to have a run on Broadway. There is a lot of chatter as to why things didn’t work out, but that all speculation.

Joe Budden Explains Why He Dropped The Mic During Total Slaughter Battle With Hollow Da Don + MORE

(AllHipHop News) Winners never quit, quitters never win and rappers never like to get booed. Yesterday (July 15th) Joe Budden addressed the performance of himself and Hollow Da Don during their Total Slaughter battle, explained why he dropped the mic at the end of the battle and more.

The Hollow Da Don vs Joe Budden rap battle surprisingly ended with Budden being peppered with a chorus of boos from the fan and the veteran Jersey rapper paused his final verse and dropped the mic. According to Budden during a recent interview with Angry Fans Radio, he was doing what he feels rappers have always done:

It didn’t get to me mentally at all, which is the thing,” he added. “In my profession, you don’t rap over boos. It’s like Rapper 101 to know that if you at a show and n##### is booing, ‘Ya’ll, go ahead and boo. I got paid already.’ I’m either gonna wait for ya’ll to stop or I’m getting the f### outta here.

Budden also placed some of the blame on his premature stoppage on the subpar sound quality of the microphones him and Hollow were using before admitting that “in battle rap, it’s different. You gotta deal with it. You gotta rap over it. You can’t let it look like it is affecting you.” Budden graded the battle as “underwhelming” due to the mic issues. Joe also addressed a criticism he faced following the battle that his rhymes sounded as if they were written to a beat and not the free-flowing form normally employed by modern day battle rappers:

I wasn’t writing rhymes to beats at al. But, because I’m a professional rapper, it sounded like that. It sounded like there was a beat there.

NBA Comissioner Says Donald Sterling May Still Own The Los Angeles Clippers By Start of Next Season

(AllHipHop News) Justice, ironically, is preventing justice. Yesterday (July 15th), NBA Commissioner Adam Silver informed the media that banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling could possibly still be an owner at the start of the 2014-2015 NBA season.

Donald Sterling is currently on trial in Probate Court fighting his wife, Shelly Sterling and the NBA on their force sale of the Los Angeles Clippers after he was removed as a trustee from the Sterling Family Trust which owns the Los Angeles Clippers. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver remarked that while the NBA “can say with certainty that we are doing everything in our power to move Donald out as an owner”, he does admit that the current legal battle could ensure Sterling remains an owner by the start of the NBA season:

I can’t say with certainty because it’s in the hands of the probate court right now, and Donald is in the process of suing us for lots of money and we’re defending ourselves against those lawsuits.

Sterling’s Probate Court legal hearing with his wife was postponed to July 21st. Shelly sold the team to Microsoft’s ex-CEO Steve Ballmer on May 30th, with a clause in the contract that stipulated the NBA’s approval of the sale by July 15th. With the NBA waiting on the Probate Court’s decision, Ballmer’s lawyers maintain the sale deadline can be extended by a month since the trial is still ongoing.

The 2014-2015 NBA season will begin on October 28th, 2014.

Rick Ross: I Talked To Both Wale and Meek Mill As Soon As The Twitter Beef Started

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross is a label owner, but to him he’s also a mentor, a friend and now a beef mediator. During a recent interview on the day Meek Mill and Wale engaged in a Twitter feud, Ross explains how he nipped that disagreement in the bud.

On July 8th, Meek Mill went on his personal Twitter account to accuse his Maybach Music Group artist Wale of hating Meek for years after he alleges Wale did not tweet out the Dreams Worth More Than Money release date. In an interview with Bullet Media hours after the Twitter back-and-forth began, Ross explained that he squashed it long before it grew into a bigger media frenzy:

It’s a misunderstanding. As soon as the tweets went out, I spoke to both of them on the phone. Those two guys, they’re brothers. At the end of the day, they’re brothers and it’s time to turn up right now. It’s time for all of us to turn up and stay turned up, you know what I mean? But it’s all love between those two and everybody knows that.

Back in 2010, Rick Ross announced he would be releasing a Spliff-TV directed Teflon Don: The Movie that summer, the first film to be released through his production company Maybach Films. After a trailer was released the movie never saw the light of day. In an April interview with DJ Skee, Ross explained that a new film from Maybach Films had its script completed and would be released “early next year.” While Ross still contends that the movie will be released, the release date has changed:

We just finished writing our first film. We’re still in the final works. We haven’t released the title or nothing like that, but I want to begin production and filming before the year’s out, so maybe as early as next summer we can do something.

Over 750 Indie Labels Unite To Support Artists With "Fair Digital Deals Declaration"

(AllHipHop News) The Worldwide Independent Network has set up a new initiative centered around their “Fair Digital Deals Declaration.” Over 750 indie labels from around the world – including Rostrum, Stones Throw, Tommy Boy, XL and Glassnote  – have signed onto the agreement.

WIN’s Fair Digital Deals Declaration commits the signatory companies to “treat their artists fairly in agreements relating to digital exploitation of artists’ work in recorded music agreements with third parties.”

The announcement of the agreement coincides with the “Worldwide Declaration Signing Day” social media campaign scheduled for today (June 16). Updates will be shared via the @winformusic Twitter feed and awareness of the campaign will be spread using the hashtag #fairdigitaldeal4artists.

The declaration contains the following five key points:

  • Ensure that artists’ share of download and streaming revenues is clearly explained in recording agreements and royalty statements in reasonable summary form.
  • Account to artists a good-faith pro-rata share of any revenues and other compensation from digital services that stem from the monetization of recordings but are not attributed to specific recordings or performances.
  • Encourage better standards of information from digital services on the usage and monetization of music.
  • Support artists who choose to oppose, including publicly, unauthorized uses of their music.
  • Support the collective position of the global independent record company sector.

Alison Wenham, Chairman of WIN said in a statement:

A healthy commercial relationship based on mutual trust and partnership between artists and labels is critical to the long term financial health of our industry. We believe that this new initiative, which seeks to put in place simple, fair and transparent guidelines for labels dealing with third party digital partners is a template for best practice. We invite companies – majors and indies – to join the hundreds of companies who have already signed and put a stop to the practise of diverting revenues from the artists without whom we would not have a business.

Mpulse "OG LOAF" (P###. by Don Cannon)

Chicago artist Mpulse flows effortlessly over the classic boom-pap sounds of Don Cannon. This song shows why Mpulse stands out from a lot of his peers. While not compromising to whats trendy, his ability to step back, go back to the basics but still keep it modern and fresh, is a breath of fresh air. Mpulse is currently finishing his free album, “Be Incredible” that will be releasing in early August. OG LOAF will not be featured on Be Incredible.

R. Kelly Announces Plan To Drop R&B For Another Genre On Future Album

(AllHipHop News) The self-proclaimed “Pied Piper of R&B” is looking to jump into another genre of music. R. Kelly announced at Chicago’s 24th Annual Chosen Few Picnic Weekend that he plans to go in a different direction for a future album.

“I’m working on a house album right now, and I want y’all to know, it’s coming,” said Kelly. “Y’all know I love music, and I feel like I can do anything when it comes to music because I am music. Just like y’all.”

Kelly’s last LP was 2013’s Black Panties. He is also working on an album called White Panties. It’s not clear if White Panties will be the house music project.

When speaking about White Panties with V Magazine earlier this year, the singer-songwriter said, “You can expect a whole other level.”

He added, “I always follow what my spirit tells me to do. When I get into the studio I write from my heart. I try to write life and not songs. People live life and when you write life you’re going to mess around and touch somebody’s heart, and they’ll relate to you and what you’re singing about.”

Chuck D Explains Why He Called Hot 97's Summer Jam A "Sloppy Fiasco"

(AllHipHop News) The ever outspoken Hip Hop representative Chuck D became a target of Hot 97’s morning show hosts when the Public Enemy member tweeted the station has made a “sloppy fiasco” of Hip Hop.

The social media post led to a response tweet from Hot’s Ebro Darden. It also sparked Peter Rosenberg’s “The Realness” segment accusing Chuck of trolling on Twitter and not actively helping the culture. Rosenberg has since apologized for his comments, but Chuck D visited the Combat Jack Show to discuss why he took aim at Hot 97 to begin with.

[ALSO READ: Peter Rosenberg Apologizes To Chuck D (VIDEO)]

“This was something that was simmering a long time ago. When we first did the Hot 97 Summer Jam 2009 or whatever, and the host of the show came out and said, ‘These are the [n-words] that brought on the revolution. Give it up for these [n-words],'” said Chuck.

Chuck goes on to explain that he took issue with the fact the large crowd made up of a mostly non-black audience was using the n-word so freely.

“You’re looking at 50,000 people. Largely not black – white or whatever. They’re out there and the n-word is being spit. You can see and understand the artist in their music. If they ain’t got no better presentation to bring it across – and that’s all they know because they ain’t taught by nobody – but when the host starts doing that, it’s a problem. So this is five years later, and it’s just got worse,” continued Chuck. “And when you see the artist and the host, and it’s 50,000 people, 60% white people, and they’re also yelling the n-word, quite frankly it’s going to be one of those things that I’m going to say was sloppy.”

The New York legend adds that he did not “go in” on Hot 97 like he could have, and the situation is indefensible and undebatable in his eyes.

“I don’t know what sparked them off. I didn’t say it was wack… You don’t want to hear me going in. I just said, ‘sloppy fiasco,'” stated Chuck. “I don’t know if it was the ‘sloppy.’ Now that we’re living in these metro times, you call somebody sloppy their vertebrae starts collapsing. Or was it ‘fiasco.’ Maybe they thought I was talking about Lupe Fiasco. No, I’m talking about you. It’s sloppy, and these dudes tried to defend it.”

Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert Explains $40 Million Investment In Genius (Formerly Rap Genius)

(AllHipHop News) Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has not been afraid to spend part of his reported $3.8 billion dollars net worth in recent days. First, he was able to bring LeBron James back to the Cavs with a $42 million deal, and then he invested another $40 million, alongside Andreessen Horowitz, in the “Genius Project” formerly known as Rap Genius.

[ALSO READ: Rap Genius Releases New iPhone App]

Gilbert wrote a blog post titled “I’m Hoping It’s Smart To Invest Genius” explaining why he made the move to back the website with a mission to “annotate the world.”

Read portions of Gilbert’s post below:

Have you heard of a newly released app, web site, business concept or technology and thought to yourself: “Why doesn’t this already exist?” The gap it fills and problem it solves seems so simple and common sense that you start asking yourself: “Why didn’t I think of that?!” That was my response when I first heard of Rap Genius, originally a crowdsourced platform for decoding complex rap lyrics.

For nearly four decades, rap (and hip-hop culture in general) has been one of the most influential music genres of our time. Rap and Hip-Hop have transcended from music into fashion, sports, politics, film and pop culture.

Since its debut in 2009, Rap Genius has caught on in a big way among artists and the public, allowing everyone to dive into the lyrics of hip-hop music to find a deeper and better understanding of the creators’ original intent. In addition, the burgeoning company has entered into licensing partnerships with all of the major music publishers, as well as dozens of smaller ones.

Friday, Rap Genius took their concept to a completely new level by re-launching the platform as ‘Genius’ (genius.com). With a new name and a broader scope, Genius takes a huge step toward fulfilling its mission to crowdsource the annotation of ALL TEXT on the internet (that’s right—the entire web)….

Genius is a place where community and technology combine perfectly to revolutionize the way we read and consume information. I am excited to invest in Genius (through Detroit Venture Partners (DVP)) along with Andreessen Horowitz, among others. I am also looking forward to joining the Board of Directors with Ben Horowitz and the company’s founders, Tom Lehman and Ilan Zechory. From the moment I met them, I knew the creativity and passion of Ilan and Tom, as well as the other team members of Genius, would propel them to build something very special. Sometimes you can ‘feel’ a winner even before they speak a single word.
