White Folk and the N-Word: Use at Your Own Risk!

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names [words] will never hurt me!” That’s what we were taught as children, but as adults, we now know that was some nursery-rhyme b#######! Many-a-dude has gone into rehab behind a chick telling him he has a teeny-weenie pencil-neck p##### and many-a-chick has gone into depression behind a dude calling her a “thot” and a “jump-off.” Yes! Words can sting and touch us to our core!

Thus, it was, in 1839 that Englishman Edward Bulwer-Lytton wrote a play entitled “Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy” where he coined the phrase, “The pen is mightier than the sword.”No truer words have ever been spoken! The “pen” (or words) are powerful!

The idea that we “give words too much power” is ludacrisp preposterous! This seems to be the new thinking of this generation of youngsters who would tell us old-heads that we are living in the past, as though the word “n#####” (or even “n####”) has lost its sting and wretchedness coming from the moufs of white people. Meanwhile, it’s been 2,000 years and you’re still harping on the murder of one man (Jesus), but bringing up a pogrom (look the word up!) of slavery that ended less than 160 years ago is hanging on to the past?

When did it become okay for white people to say n#####/n####? Yes! I know they are just parroting, mimicking, aping and regurgitating black hip-hop cultural aesthetics. Hip-hop (rap) is partly responsible for the desensitization of the N-word, but when did it become okay for white people and white rappers like V-Nasty (and I’m hearing some scuttlebutt about Iggy Azalea) to use the N-word? When did this shift occur? What coonerific black rapper cosigned the usage—Mister Fab?

Surely, every white rapper, from the Beastie Boys to Third Bass to Vanilla Ice to Eminem (and please don’t bring up Benzino’s supposed outing of Em!) knew that using the N-word (whether it be n##### or n####) on wax was a no-no—a faux pas (misstep) of the highest order! They weren’t trying to reinvent the wheel and take the power away from the N-word. They knew full-well the ramifications that lie ahead for trying to adopt the N-word.

But now some whites argue that blacks are hypocritical because we can call each other “n#####,” but a white person can’t. (Awww! Poor Baby! You want in on our cultural ignorance. Tough!) They’ve become philosophical. This has to be the lamest argument ever, but I say to any white person who feels as such to freely used to the N-word, and expect that overhand right to come a-calling from Bum-f### Egypt at any given moment when used around enough black people. Go for it! I want to hear you tell some hood cat that he’s “hypocritical” while picking up your teef dental off the ground. By all means, go for it!

Listen to me white people! You know damned well it’s wrong to use the N-word in any form! Don’t let this industry, ignant-assed rappers or the black kids you grew up around you make you think any differently! You will never be the homie (as in, “my n####!”).

N#####. Nothing stings a race of people more than the word n#####! Not cracker, s###, w######, P######, k###, Ginny or any other ethnic slur! Why? Because the word “n#####” is rooted in a history so wretched, so shameful, so painful, so degrading, and so murderous—a word that is the bedfellow of the worst hell-ocaust “holocaust” in the annals of human history, euphemistically called “That Peculiar Institution”—f###### American slavery!

The word n##### is still fresh in the minds of young and old African Americans/blacks today. Those are fighting words! How dare you even think that after 400 plus years of human servitude and a mere 150 years “Up From Slavery” (Shout-out to Booker T Washington!) you think you can come along with your pseudo b####### cultural interloping and “culture vulture” self and undo the legacy of the N-Word? That’s just like a white person to think such idiocy! You can’t devalue or take the sting off a word that sent hundreds, yea, thousands—doff! Millions to their deaths! You can’t erase that in the name of Freedom of Speech or artistic licensure or rap music or ‘cause your ignant black friends told you it was all right to use the N-word! The proof is when a black person steps to you (white person) and verbally and/or physically checks you! Don’t get a “n####” (me!) wrong! I’m not (per se) against white people using the N-word, but I’m also not (per se) against black people knocking the s### out of white people for using “said” word. How’s that? (“For every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction.”)

If only we’d read a book or two! We might find a way to a clue! This subject really isn’t worth a lengthy blog. Black action will speak louder than any white pontificating.

Justin Bieber, Iggy Azalea, V-Nasty, etc. Keep it up! I assure you there’s a Worldstar moment with your name on it! You can use the N-word, but be warned—use at your own risk!

TV Star Disses Kanye West In New Interview

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is once again the target of another celebrity’s disrespectful comments. First it was Stacey Dash saying West should go to the jail to experience what rape is really like, now actor Nick Wechsler is apparently jumping on the diss Kanye West train in an interview with Bleu magazine.

“If the choice is between Kanye and anyone else, I’m picking the other guy,” said Wechsler. “Just his personality… It’s hard not to want bad things for him.”

Wechsler stars on the ABC series Revenge. He has also appeared in other TV shows including Team Knight Rider, Roswell, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Last week Dash slammed Kanye during a segment on Fox News. The actress-turned-pundit responded to West’s comparison of paparazzi harassment to rape by saying, “For Kanye to say ‘rape,’ maybe he needs to spend some time on Rikers Island. Go to Rikers for a little while, and then he’ll know what rape is.”

While other entertainers have been speaking out against Kanye in recent days, the Chicago rapper/producer has reportedly been focused on his next album. According to attendees, Ye debuted 20 new tracks at a party in London earlier this month.

Hollow Da Don Speaks On His Battle Against Joe Budden (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The main event of Saturday night’s Total Slaughter featured the rare battle that pitted a full-time battle rapper against a high-profile signed artist.

Hollow Da Don versus Joe Budden was one of the most anticipated battles of the year with fans, other emcees, and media personalities taking sides on who would walk out the victor.

[ALSO READ: Total Slaughter Battle Rap Event Recap]

Hollow was named the winner of the bout, but the NYC emcee is still not proud of his performance that night. Speaking with ThisSh*tIsHotSun, Hollow revealed he felt technical difficulties played a part in him not doing his best.

“I’m my worse critic. So I’m going to definitely feel disappointed because I didn’t feel like I did my best potential because of the mic,” Hollow said. “I don’t want to make excuses, but people don’t understand when your s**t is off and your words are going in and out – you’re hearing that s**t. You’re thinking in your head, ‘this f**king mic is f**king…’ And you’re still trying to rap.”

Issues with the microphones were a major problem during the Hollow-Budden match. The two competitors had to switch handless mics at one point, and Budden eventually decided to use a hand-held mic.

Even with Hollow saying the audio problems threw him off, he still believes the judges gave the victory to the right person. He just to did not demolish Budden the way he would have like to have done.

“I’m not going to sit here like all these other battle rappers, and be like, ‘I killed it. Easy body. 3-0,” said Hollow. “I don’t feel I lost. I just felt like I could have did better and killed him.”

Rick Ross reached out to MTV to address his MMG artist’s latest stint behind bars. In a written statement Ross said:

I created MMG years ago, my desire was to create a space where the most talented artists in the world could be nurtured and supported. With that came a commitment. I vowed to support these artist, through the good and the bad. Every individual signed to MMG is not just an artist, they are my family. And with family you ride, or you die. Yesterday, my brother, Meek Mill ran into some unfortunate legal issues. It happens. However, his team, our team, will continue to execute Meek’s plan as close to schedule as possible.

Meek’s sophomore album Dreams Worth More Than Money is currently scheduled for release on September 9. According to Ross, the LP is still “coming.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay Z Passes The Nation To Jay Electronica, Video of the BK Hip-Hop Festival

The reports are rolling all the way in on yesterday’s outing at tar Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. Jay Z showed up on Jay Electronica’s set last night and they both proceeded to tear it down. Now, Jay-E came out with the full force of the Nation of Islam and the Fruit of Islam (security) and he was even dressed in full FOI gear, which was a sight to see. AHH’s Jigsaw, Keith Nelson and Frsk Purp were out there and got an all access pass to the event. It was a sight to see.

But, what I found to be most dopest, was that Jay Z gave Jay Electronica his controversial gold chain that represents the 5% Nation. White folk and the media were hating on Jigga man for that one. But he bestowed it to Jay Elec.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Robin Thicke Catches An L!

I don’t really keep up with R&B and all that, but Robin Thicke did everything in his white power to get his wife Paula Patton back. I thought it would happen, but it ain’t looking good. The album he recently released named after HER flopped in a major way. He sold about 25k in the first week and even less in the UK – 530 copies, bro. I think he failed to remember that his fan base is all females, which also buy records. Even though he cheated, so I guess they like it even less that he’s begging for his Ol’ Earth back. Now, Paula gotta definitely feel a way about the album named after her going double wood.

Total Slaughter Battle Rap Event Recap

(AllHipHop Editorial) For weeks the first annual Total Slaughter event presented by Eminem and Slaughterhouse was built up as the “biggest event in battle rap history.” For diehard fans of the battle rap scene, the line-up on paper set up a potential milestone showcase of some of the culture’s elite.

The card included Arsonal vs. Big T, Daylyt vs. T-Rex, Loaded Lux vs. Murda Mook, and of course the main event: battle rap royalty Hollow Da Don vs. mainstream underdog Joe Budden. The night also offered an opportunity for many new fans to witness the amazing display of verbal jousting in this form for the first time.

Unfortunately, Total Slaughter ended up falling flat. Starting from the very beginning when purchasers of the online stream were not able to even view the event.

After paying $20 dollars to witness the show live via the totalslaughter.tv website and mobile app, consumers were completely shut out from watching the show when the site crashed and never recovered. This fail was basically a metaphor for how the rest of the night would turn out.

There were also issues with the microphones throughout the event as well. For the last match they actually had to revert to using a hand-held mic even though it has become customary to use lapel microphones during battles.

Numerous famous Hip Hop names were on hand as part of the event. Sway Calloway served as host, and DJ Kay Slay as referee. Ebro Darden and Royce da 5’9” provided post match commentary. Kid Capri, Poison Pen, and Drect were judges for the evening.

Despite having shined in other leagues like Smack/URL, King of the Dot, and U Dubb, it did not seem like many of the competitors on the card came fully prepared for Total Slaughter. The opening bout saw New Jersey’s Arsonal face off against Chicago’s Big T. The lopsided matchup ended with Ars easily taking down T in what many saw as a 3-0 victory.

Up next was the final round of the Total Slaughter tournament that initially started on the reality show aired on Fuse. What began as eight battlers was dwindled down to two. T-Rex and Daylyt survived to compete against each other at TS1.

After suggesting on the Total Slaughter series and announcing in a pre-match interview before the event that he would not being using any of his infamous gimmicks (ie: stripping down to a thong in one battle and pretending to fall asleep on his opponent in another), Day showed up for his Total Slaughter battle dressed as the character Spawn. But that was just the beginning.

Daylyt

During his final round, the Los Angeles emcee told the crowd he was out of his schizophrenia medication and proceeded to rip off his costume. Daylyt then just laid down on the stage in his boxers without spitting one bar.

Obviously, T-Rex was named the victor, but Day later claimed on Twitter that his “forfeit” was part of his Machiavellian game plan all along. With Daylyt’s choice to throw in the towel, it does seem proper to wonder how the other tournament competitors felt about not having the opportunity to appear on the big event’s undercard since Day did not seem to take the moment seriously.

One of the most hyped battles of the night was up next. A rematch of a classic battle between Loaded Lux and Murda Mook. The two titans helped elevate battle rap with their Smack DVD masterpiece in 2003. A decade later Lux/Mook II was nowhere near the same level of competition as the first contest.

Besides a 50 Cent reference (“Damn, homie. On Smack DVD you was the man, homie. What the f**k happened to Mook?”), Lux was not able to land many lines effectively. The audience even showered Lux with boos during his second round.

In contrast, Mook won over the crowd. The rap world expected to see an epic battle but was given a one-sided landslide that set one of the legends of the culture back. Lux must now comeback and prove his resilience in his next battle which he is fully capable of doing.

Finally, the main event. In what was billed as: battle rap professional versus signed platinum artist, underground versus mainstream, street versus corporate – Joe Budden stepped out of his element to go against the rebuttal king Hollow Da Don.

Firstly, Budden and Hollow should be commended for even taking this match as they both had a lot to lose. A victory for Budden could have be seen as proof that battle rap as an art form is not on the same level as the talent needed to be a successful recording artist. A Hollow win may have been perceived as a permanent foul mark on the resume of an established rapper like Budden. hollow-budden Hollow opened up by taking shots at the Total Slaughter organizers – Shady Records and Paul Rosenberg. He claimed the battlers on the card were not given a proper share of the profits from the event. But Shady Records co-founder Eminem was given a pass from Hollow’s wrath when the New York native shouted out the Hip Hop icon to close out his verse (“Eminem, you’re still my favorite”).

Hollow’s final two rounds were filled with personal disses toward Budden. His ex-girlfriend and Love and Hip Hop co-star Tahiry Jose became a center point when Hollow stopped rhyming at one point to yell in Budden’s face that he would  “f**k him up” if he ever hit a woman again. Hollow also took aim at Joey for being a “one hit wonder”, blogging about getting punched in the face, and being Eminem’s lackey.

Budden’s first round saw numerous pops from the audience when he spit lines like “Here I go again making another b***h famous” and “You asked where’s my last hit? N***a, where’s your first one?” His second round went over well with the people in attendance too.

After having the crowd for much of the first two rounds, the audience turned on Joe in the third. In perhaps the most surprising moment of the night (save Daylyt’s faux freak out), Budden did not complete his third verse because he got upset at the audience’s reaction to some of his bars.

The Slaughterhouse member turned to the fans in the venue and said, “If y’all don’t stop booing, I’ll stop rapping.” The boos continued and Budden put his microphone down on the stage.

This was reminiscent of Budden’s friend Tsu Surf’s UW match against Calicoe. Surf took issue with that crowd making noise as he was rapping and eventually halted his performance during his second round. Calicoe called it a choke, but Surf did at least complete the battle.

Budden’s stop left the door open to award an otherwise close match-up to Hollow. Budden later claimed on Twitter that he felt he took the battle 2-1, but it’s hard to see judges rewarding him with a win when he effectively quit the match.

Budden’s move is the equivalent of Floyd Mayweather walking out of the ring in the middle of the 12th round. Or LeBron James storming off the court in the 4th quarter of the NBA Finals game seven. It’s difficult for any impartial person to call you a winner after doing that, regardless of the scorecard.

With visual and audio trouble plaguing the entire event, Budden’s decision to drop the mic is another metaphor for how unprepared and unprofessional Total Slaughter came across. Add in two uncompetitive battles and two unfinished battles, and you get an event that did not go off as well as it could have. Even with the lackluster display from TS1, this should not be seen as representative of battle rap culture as a whole.

For years the artists on this card, and many others, have worked extremely hard to present amazing examples of lyricism, showmanship, fortitude, and drive. Seasoned fans may be the most disappointed in how things turned out in Hammerstein Ballroom last night, but at least they should take away battle rap culture is seen as important enough that a huge show like Total Slaughter was even possible to pull off in the first place.

And new fans to the culture hopefully got somewhat of an idea of why millions of people around the world pay to attend battle rap events and watch videos on YouTube featuring these talented emcees. Maybe they will now go back and view other big bouts like Arsonal/Math Hoffa, Big T/Tsu Surf, T-Rex/Young Ill, Daylyt/Chilla Jones, Loaded Lux/Calicoe, Murda Mook/Serius Jones, and Hollow Da Don/Hitman Holla.

Total Slaughter was not a win by a long shot, but hopefully the show’s organizers, participants, and competitor leagues can learn from the mistakes of this event and continue to build upon the battle rap culture for future presentations. We’ll be watching.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Guess What 90’s Hip-Hop Girl Group Is Reuniting?

TOTAL! Remember them? Yeah, Total, y’all!

It has been a long time, so let me explain a bit. Total was a group that was signed to Sean Combs and Bad Boy Records. They were one of the more popular acts back in the 1990’s and were making moves. I am not fully clear on why they broke up, bit I know Keisha got with Omar Epps and rode out! Now, the reunion only includes Kima and Pam, the remaining members. I heard lil’ sis Vita may be tagging along. Remember Vita was down with Murder Inc back in the days. But, yeah, they can’t seem to get Keisha back in because she is secure with the crew over there in Epps Land. I heard they got together earlier this year and are working on a new album. Hoping they make some moves in the current era. Its pretty open for singers.

By the way…they were as Hip-Hop as singers got so don’t come at me with that “they ain’t Hip-Hop.” Here are a few classics!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is MMG Being Torn Apart By Internal Beef?

We all know that Rick Ross has chilled out on the eating, but it seems like he’s dealing with nothing but beef inside the ranks of MMG. Yep. This is what I am hearing…that the ranks of one of the strongest crews are at odds like A.M.F.! This all seemingly started with Meek Mill popping off at Wale for allegedly not supporting him. I don’t know to what extent this purported beefing has carried on, but my sources say its pretty deep. Furthermore, there seems to be some frustration that the crew hasn’t experienced some of the meteoric highs that other groups have even though they are one of the strongest collectives out right now. I don’t know. Hoping Ross can bring some order to this chaos.

On the flip side, the FREE MEEK MILL campaign is in full swing.

I didn’t even realize it, but Meek is going away for about 3 months or 3 weeks. EITHER WAY – Relax, y’all…he’ll be home before you can say “Dream Chasers.”

Meek Mill Sentenced To Serve Jail Time Over Probation Violation

(AllHipHop News) Earlier today (July 11th) Meek Mill was sentenced to serve time in jail over a probation violation.

According to reports, prosecutors were concerned about Meek’s recent behavior which they claim involves Meek taking a picture with a gun. No word on which photo the prosecution is referring to, however the cover art for Meek’s remix to “Chiraq” back in April may be the one in question which Meek posted on his personal Instagram account back in April:

b6dffd79cec2222bd73ec66b35209b5c

Multiple reports have Meek serving between three to 6 months in count jail. However, Karen Civil reports that sources with Meek Mill’s team state the rapper will only be serving three to four weeks in jail.

Meek is currently in custody but details on the start of his jail term have not surfaced. Meek is scheduled to perform at Temple University’s Liacouras Center on July 19th as a part of his “Homecoming Tour”

Fluent (feat. Action Bronson) – "Medallion" (p###. by J. Cardim)

From Run DMC’s Dookie ropes to Kanye West’s Horus piece, chains have always been essential part of Hip-Hop culture. But while anyone can rock some gold around their neck and think they’re as fly as Eric B and Rakim, medallions are only worthy of a chosen few. Over this Rocky-esque “Gonna Fly Now” beat from J. Cardim, “Medallion” has Fluent revealing the inner-workings of his hustler’s ambition from a hard working youth, to his surreal, lavish lifestyle. Coupled with a hook from Action Bronson, the track is an ode for those who are moving fast from the bottom to the top, a mentality that is frequently showcased on Fluent’s upcoming LP, Supreme Victory, which is produced entirely by J. Cardim. With appearances from Nipsey Hustle, Joe Budden and Guilty Simpson, Fluent is prepared to show and prove that he can last a full 12 rounds and come out victorious.

Cleveland Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert Explains How He Got Lebron James To Return

(AllHipHop News) For four years, the name Dan Gilbert instantly conjured up thoughts of an inflammatory letter directed at Lebron James after James announced he would Cavaliers for the Miami Heat. Today (July 11th), hours after Lebron James announced he would be returning to the Cavaliers, Gilbert explains how the reunification process happened and how James forgave him for the letter.

According to Yahoo, last Sunday (July 6th) Gilbert met with James and his agent Rich Paul in Miami and began discussing James signing with his former team, but not before the apologies were exchanged:

I told him how sorry I was, expressed regret for how that night went and how I let all the emotion and passion for situation carry me away. I told him I wish had never done it, that I wish I could take it back.

Moments before James’ announcement was posted on SI.com, Gilbert received a text message from James’ agent that read “Dan, congratulations. LeBron’s coming home.” According to Gilbert, he first heard of Lebron’s interest in possibly returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers three years ago, but still is incredulous of the turn of events:

I went back and forth in my mind, thinking: Could this really happen? It was a volatile thing for years, and now that it’s happened, I’m still in shock.

No word yet on the terms of his deal with the Cavaliers. Read the full story of Lebron James and Dan Gilbert’s meeting here.
