Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Jay Z A Member Of The Five Percent Nation?

I tried to tell y’all! LOL! Jay was the “s#### that sat by the door” but now he’s breaking out! Last week, “the god” (the only context I can refer to Jay as “god”) went to a Nets game. And he was wearing a gold-encrusted Five Percenter chain. Now to put this in some context, the Five Percent Nation was very big back in the day with rappers like Big Daddy Kane, Busta Rhyme, Lord Jamar, Wu Tang, Rakim, and others embracing the ideology that the Black man was “god” and the Black woman was the “Earth.” The offshoot of Islam was very empowering and positive to the community with the sun moon and stars symbolism. White folks may feel something about it, because they were not seen in a very high regard due to racism and whatnot. Anyway, peep this! People are asking if Jay Z is now a member (or has always been one)! OR is he just wearing a dope chain?

ARM LEG LEG ARM HEAD = ALLAH

We’ve heard Jay say this a lot as of late. Maybe…just maybe. This ain’t too far off from another recent rumor I’ve published. Is this a new Jay shaping up? Is he exercising some form of Black Nationalism now that he’s amassed a certain amount of power?

SIGNS: Black Women Get Jumped By Restaurant Manager And Employees!

The heck is going on? Where is Black Superman when you need him? These Black women were apparently looking for a refund on some bad food at a Chacho’s Fast Food Restaurant. I never heard of this chain before but it sounds like Mexican to me. Nevertheless, the women appear to be pretty tame physically at the beginning of this video. But, somehow the manager and employees found reason to actually physically attack the women, seemingly without provocation! They may have been causing a fuss or something, but you pretty much damn your cause with you start grappling with your own customers. These big husky dudes were all over that one thick chick! They probably were getting their rocks off on the low!

Peep the video and let me know your thoughts.

DJ Mustard Says He Gave 100+ Beats To Kanye West & 15 Beats To Nicki Minaj

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West’s DJ Mano recently revealed that Ye’s next album will not sound like Yeezus, but it may have a DJ Mustard beat or two included. That’s because the Roc Nation producer tells HardKnockTV he gave Kanye over 100 beats during a session.

[ALSO READ: Kanye West’s Tour DJ Says Next Album Will Not Sound Like “Yeezus”]

“When I went to do ‘Sanctified’ I had like 100 beats. I took like 100 and something beats out there,” says Mustard about the track on Rick Ross’ Mastermind album co-produced by Kanye.

The Los Angeles native also explains how the original beat for “Sanctified” sounded a lot different from the final version.

“I could play you the original song, and you wouldn’t even notice that ‘Sanctified’ came from this,” added Mustard. “Kanye slowed it all the way down… The crazy s**t about it is he did it, and I didn’t know that was my beat.”

Mustard has presented tracks to another superstar rapper as well. Nicki Minaj apparently received 15 beats from the “Rack City” and “My N***a” producer. He also plans to provide some tracks for his fellow Roc Nation artists Jay Z, J. Cole, and Jay Electronica.

Lil Boosie Concert Cancelled Because Of Parole Restictions

(AllHipHop News) A planned Lil Boosie concert for April 18th at the County Fairgrounds in Jackson, Mississippi has been scrapped. According to WAPT, the rapper could not be confirmed for the performance because of his parole travel restriction.

The show’s promoter Keith Brown was in negotiations with the county for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Spring Break event, but the talks ended when Boosie’s appearance could not be guaranteed.

Boosie was released from a Louisiana prison on March 5th. Jackson County officials claim the Louisiana Department of Corrections and Parole could not give approval for Boosie to travel.

Quincy Jones Expresses He’s Not A Fan Of Lil Wayne

(AllHipHop News) Legendary producer Quincy Jones has worked with some of the most iconic figures in music. His bio is full of names like Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Michael Jackson, and many more.

[ALSO READ: Quincy Jones Suing Michael Jackson Estate For $10 Million]

Q has even collaborated with Hip Hop acts like LL Cool J, Kid Capri, Heavy D, and Queen Latifah, but there is one rapper Jones does not appear to be a fan of – Lil Wayne.

In an interview with The National, Jones said:

Let’s get real, man. When you come from the era of Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, it gets hard to get used to Lil Wayne. I just can’t handle it. There are some good singers out there. Mary J Blige can sing, so can Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. I know who they are. I also know who they aren’t, too.

The Jones family and Lil Wayne have a complicated history. Wayne lost his lawsuit against Quincy Jones III over QD3’s The Carter documentary. The Young Money leader was ordered to pay the younger Jones $2.2 million as a result.

Wayne is not the only rap artist that Quincy Jones has criticized. In 2012, he made the comment that Diddy “wouldn’t know a B-flat if it hit him.”

Jay Z Catching Heat For Five Percent Nation Medallion

(AllHipHop News) “I’m ready to chase a Yakub back in a cave,” rapped Jay Z on his “We Made It” verse with Jay Electronica. The line may have gone over a lot of people’s heads, but those familiar with the teachings of the Five Percent Nation caught the reference.

[ALSO READ: Hip-Hop Rumors: Was Jay-Z A Student Of Dr. York?]

It appears the Hip Hop mogul’s supposed connection with the Nation of Gods and Earths is now catching criticism. Most notably, the star medallion associated with the group seen around Jay’s neck at a Brooklyn Nets game has publications like the New York Post implying the rapper is supporting racism by wearing the chain.

The Five Percent Nation was founded by Clarence 13X in 1963 after splitting with the Nation Of Islam. Five Percenters believe that the Black man was the original man, the creator of civilization, and the personification of God.

Their name derives from the idea that 10% of the population (the elites) manipulates and controls 85% of the population that is unaware of the true nature of human control. The remaining 5% work to enlighten that 85% of the truth.

This is not the first time that Jay was seen with a similar medallion. He also wore a piece during an interview with The Breakfast Club last year.

Even Five Percenters are apparently questioning Jay’s decision to wear the medallion as well.

“Jay Z is not an active member — no one has vouched for him” said 5 Percent representative Saladin Allah to The Post. “It was always understood that you don’t wear the regalia if you don’t totally subscribe to the life.”

Accused Bloods Gang Leader Ronald “Ra Diggs” Herron Murder/Drug Trial To Begin

(AllHipHop News) Ronald “Ra Diggs” Herron was once an aspiring rapper, and according to the government he is also the head of a narcotics enterprise in Brooklyn’s Gowanus Housing Projects, Bloods gang leader, and murderer.

The Daily News reports that Herron’s trial for murder and drug trafficking is set to begin this month. He is charged with 32 counts of racketeering and could be facing life in prison if convicted.

Herron’s criminal case first began when he was stopped by a police officer for throwing a gum wrapper on the ground. The cop discovered Herron was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time which eventually led to a grand jury subpoena and his arrest.

Authorities then tied Herron to three killings. There is also allegedly video evidence of undercover officers buying drugs from members of Herron’s crew.

The prosecution is apparently using testimony from Herron’s former associates, his own rap lyrics from YouTube videos, and his tweets against him.

Herron aka Ra Diggs was a member of the rap group Murda Team with New York rapper Uncle Murda. He was also connected to Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did The Game Break His Fiancee’s Nose?

TMZ is reporting some heavy stuff on The Game. The rapper, known for his tender heart and giving ways, is now being accused of laying hands on his wife. BaseCamp Beats Talk Technology’s Affect on Production, Florida Music Scene + MORE

(AllHipHop News) Evan”Eagle” Gilhooly and Thomas “Motion Picture” Dulany are up and coming producers out of Florida burgeoning on the cusp of success. Cultivating Florida talent, the production duo speaks EXCLUSIVELY with AllHipHop on their beat making process and more.

AllHipHop: How does the story start, individually, for each of you making beats? Where did you grow up?

Motion Picture: Before I started producing in 2007, I was an artist tired of constantly looking for instrumentals. I felt as though it would be easier to start making my own beats. When I moved to NYC, I began to take producing more serious. I grew up in Exeter, NH.
Eagle: Much like Motion, I started rapping and engineering myself before making my own beats. At 15, I was making basic instrumentals in Fruity Loops until I moved to FL and got Logic Pro 4 years later. By then, I fell back from rapping and focused on producing. Funny enough, I grew up 45 minutes south (Nashua, NH) from where Motion grew up, but we met down here in Florida!

When did you two decided to form the duo Base Camp Beats?

Motion Picture: In 2009, we established an immediate shared interest for East Coast hip-hop and production. At that point, we were merely rapping and playing each other our individual beats. Gradually, we started making collaborative efforts on instrumentals, but without any agenda or plans. It wasn’t until late 2010 that we actually assigned a name to our production duo.

They say that it is hard for parents to choose their favorite child and artists feel the same way about all their pieces of art. So I won’t ask you which is your favorite beat but which beat has your favorite story?

Motion Picture: There’s a beat named “Loud” (circa 2011) that consists of drums and two distinct sample chops. Aside from being soulful and upbeat, the switch in the sample is indicative of our unique but cohesive styles blending on a beat. Eagle laid the original chop and the drums, and Motion found the song to sample and chopped the switch up. We occasionally still do different individual chops to this day.

After you realized production was your path, how soon did you start thinking of the business side of it?

Eagle: Although we both moved to FL to attend Full Sail University for their Music and Entertainment Business degrees, we began to expand and promote more heavily once we migrated to the west coast of Orlando in 2012. We’ve both been keen to the business side of hip-hop for a long time, but it was the validation from peers that helped us realized the potential for what we had to offer as Base Camp Beats.

Who are the music producers you look up to or seek inspiration from?

BOTH: Dj Premier, 9th Wonder, Kanye West, Just Blaze and Alchemist.

Technology has evolved tremendously over the past 10 years. Tablets, quad processors, etc. How has technology’s advancements changed your production style?

Motion Picture: When I first started producing, I was using vinyl a lot more. Although I still love the crackle of a record, I’ve learned to develop other ways to sample and achieve a similar sound.

Eagle: There are a plethora of drum sounds available now, apposed to the typical break beats that we’ve all heard recycled. Also, the processing and modulation power is amazing. If you’re so inclined, you can record voices and sounds to use as instruments, like a SFX designer on a film might do.

How has your equipment arsenal changed over the years?

Eagle: Before Full Sail, neither of us had as much equipment or know-how regarding gear, but since then, we’ve merged our collective assets to create our current arsenal. In addition to a quality condenser mic and studio monitors, we’ve been steadily working on expanding our sound banks and drum kits.

How is the talent in Orlando, FL and what are your plans with cultivating that talent?

Motion Picture: So far, most of the artists we’ve come across are very talented and determined individuals. What’s ideal about central Florida is it’s proximity to both Atlanta & Miami but it’s lack of full ‘trap’ or ‘southern’ influence. It’s not entirely populated by a certain kind of rapper, so that has allowed us to hone aspects of our production skills to accommodate the talent. In addition to one-off tracks and/or collabs with local acts, we’ve been working closely with a hand full of truly skilled MC’s with plans to create EP’s and LP’s produced exclusively by Base Camp Beats.

What artists would you want to work with and which of your beats would you think work with them?

Motion Picture: We have some grimy, up-north, boom-bap for MC’s like Action Bronson and Styles P. We’ve also got more soulful east coast stuff for artists like Talib Kweli.

Eagle: We’ve also been polishing our stoner and club-rap joints for people like Wiz Khalifa. But being in the south has given us inspiration to make beats for people like Big K.R.I.T. and Jeezy.

If you could have produced one artist’s album over for them who would it be, which album and what would you have done to help it?

BOTH: We wouldn’t want to produce an album over, per say, but we would want to make something from scratch; fresh and new. We appreciate how much time and effort goes into producing, so we don’t want to downplay anyone else’s work. But it shouldn’t go without saying that some rappers skill level exceeds the production they choose and vice versa.

What’s the ultimate goal for Base Camp Beats?

BOTH: Ideally, we’d like to launch our website (www.basecampbeats.com) and start to profit from that. Eventually, we’ll expand the operation so that most of the site is automated and can function fully without much interference. Then, sooner or later, have artists fly us in to work with them. Ultimately, the aim would be to live anywhere we wish and still collect money, make music and relax.

Check out BaseCamp Beats’ production at their official Soundcloud page. Check out behind the scene footage of the production duo in the studio below:
