Grammy Rap Committee Allegedly Didn't Want Macklemore Nominated In Rap Categories

(AllHipHop News) Macklemore himself said he felt that Kendrick Lamar should win this year’s Grammy award for “Best Rap Album” over him, and it appears that some members of the Grammy committee felt that Macklemore should not have been nominated in the category in the first place.

According to an AP report, an unnamed source claims rap committee members asserted that the Seattle native’s The Heist album (with Ryan Lewis) was more reflective of pop music than rap. The controversy became a topic that had to be addressed by the entire Grammy committee. The general committee, which is made up of representatives from all genres, eventually voted to keep Mack and Lewis in the rap categories.

“If you strip away being influenced by the popularity or by who their fans are or by the amount of radio traction their songs got… and just dissect musically what it is, there’s no question it’s a Hip Hop album,” said the group’s manager Zach Quillen.

Macklemore and Lewis have other backers as well. The report cites frequent Drake producer Noah “40” Shebib and Hot 97 program director Ebro Darden as supporters of the duo being nominated for rap Grammys.

“If you’re rapping over a beat, it’s Hip Hop,” said Darden.

Macklemore and Lewis are up for seven awards at this weekend’s Grammy event. They will compete for the “Best Rap Album” (The Heist) and “Best Rap Song” (“Thrift Shop”). They were also nominated for “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year” (“Same Love”).

Jay Z Named In $600 Million Lawsuit Over The Name "Brooklyn Nets"

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z is not even an owner of the Brooklyn Nets franchise anymore, but the rapper-turned-mogul is still one of the defendants in $600 million trademark lawsuit. Radar Online is reporting that a businessman named Dr. Francois de Cassagnol is suing Jay, the Nets, the NBA, and developer Bruce Ratner for unlawfully trademarking the name “Brooklyn Nets.”

De Cassagnol claims that he trademarked the name over a decade ago in Louisiana, and the defendants “fraudulently conspired” to manipulate the U.S. Patent Office. He also alleges that he contacted Nets and NBA officials before the team moved from Jersey and was told the franchise would most likely use the name “New York Nets.”

The NBA won a previous appeal to the Patent Office. A review board ruled that de Cassagnol’s paperwork was filed after the announcement that the Nets were moving to Brooklyn and that none of the uses of his Louisiana businesses conflicted with the NBA’s federal trademark application. De Cassagnol went on to file his current multimillion dollar complaint in New York on December 9th of last year.

Besides being named in a $600 million lawsuit, Jay is tied to another potential case as well. According to Uproxx.com, the Magna Carta Holy Grail creator had his lawyers contact Bohemia Interactive, the makers of the game DayZ, about changing the name of their zombie multiplayer to ZDay or possibly face being sued.

“We declined. But it did make me laugh,” shared DayZ developer Dean Hall during a Reddit AMA.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kenya Moore Rides For Kandi and Todd?

We’re not sure when Kenya and Kandi got so cool but apparently, Kenya says she went in on Natalie over Christoper Williams marriage gate because she felt that Natalie was trying to hard to get her 15 minutes of fame.

Here’s what she wrote in a blog on Bravo’s site:  I found it odd that Cynthia manages to find random chicks and call them her friends. I found Natalie to have an agenda when she was speaking so negatively about Todd.

I’ve worked with Christopher Williams, (Natalie’s common law husband) on a play called “Gossip, Lies, and Secrets” years ago. There was more drama behind the scenes than on the stage. During that time, he told many of the cast that he was not married but they consider themselves “common law” married. Meaning…they lived off and on as husband and wife but never walked down an aisle nor had any legal ceremony

I could not care less about their arrangement or her gift certificate of marriage, LOL! It wasn’t my business, but Natalie made it my business when she chose to blatantly lie about being married for 18 years and trash Todd. Trust me, there is a lot of tea I know about Christopher from being on a play with him for 3 months, but those are his secrets and he’s not relevant. As for Todd, I like Todd and Kandi together. They are happy so no one should care about his past or what relationships didn’t work.

When Natalie tried to insult me for exposing her… someone should have told Natalie, DON’T COME FOR ME UNLESS I SEND FOR YOU! And shame on Cynthia for taking her side in her interview. I’ve been a loyal friend to her and proven myself. With that said, at least ALL of the ladies rallied together to put Natalie in her place. I lived for Kandi, who got her together and sent her weathered face packing back to obscurity.

And boom goes the dynamite.

Epic Win of the Day: Dancehall Remix of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's Fake Jamaican Patois

Toronto’s mayor Rob Ford is quite to character. That is an understatement. First it was the crack scandal, then he was denying that he had sexual relations with one of his staffers because he had “enough to eat at home,” but lately he’s been attempting to speak in terrible Jamaican patois.

Guess what? Someone created a dancehall mix video compilation of it because the Internet has no chill.
