(AllHipHop News) It is almost 2014, but Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse and the responses are still a big topic of discussion in Hip Hop. The latest artist to weigh on the matter is B.o.B of Hustle Gang. When asked by DJ Vlad who he felt had the best response track, Bobby named MMG’s Meek Mill.
“I just like the ‘ooh, kill ’em.’ That was the best part,” said B.o.B. “Meek always comes with bars. He always comes with energy. He never lets you down, so I wasn’t expecting nothing less.”
B.o.B released his own “Control” response titled “How 2 Rap.” The Atlanta emcee also just dropped his third studio album Underground Luxury. The LP features appearances from T.I., Juicy J, Chris Brown, Future, and 2 Chainz.
(AllHipHop News) When Cee Lo Green and Danger Mouse joined forces to become Gnarls Barkley, the music world was treated to a soul/alternative hybrid that won over critics and fans. According to Cee Lo, the duo is set to make a return in the near future.
Speaking with TMZ, the star of NBC’s singing competition show The Voice revealed he and Danger Mouse are planning to get back together in 2014. Cee Lo was not clear whether the reunion would include new music or tour dates, but Gnarls Barkley is apparently scheduled to reappear in some fashion.
Gnarls Barkley released the international hit single “Crazy” in 2006. The song was included on the group’s debut album St. Elsewhere which picked up the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2007. Their last project was 2008’s The Odd Couple.
(AllHipHop News) Young Money performer Drake is headed back to Saturday Night Live. The Toronto native will take on the duties of host and musical guest on the January 18th episode of the long running late night sketch comedy show.
January will be a big month for Drake. Besides appearing on SNL’s 2014 debut, the OVO leader’s Nothing Was The Same album is up for three Grammys awards later that month. He will be competing in the Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album categories. The Grammys air January 26th on CBS.
(AllHipHop News) While performing his hit single “Type of Way” in Columbus, Ohio Rich Homie Quan had to rush off stage after shots rang out in the venue. In the end one person was left dead.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that 24-year-old Jeremiah I. Frazier was shot at the Red Zone bar where the concert was taking place. The shooting happened around 2:30 in the morning. The victim was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
So far police have not provided any further details about the incident.
(AllHipHop News) After deciding to end his business ties with Nike, Kanye West moved on to the next one and inked a deal with Adidas. The Chicago emcee spoke with his hometown radio station 107.5 about working with German shoe company. During an interview with Tony Sculfield and The Morning Riot Show Kanye revealed that he also designed 20 sneakers for the Adidas and the should be available for purchase in September of next year.
“I just got back from Germany. It was one the greatest creative days of my life. We designed the entire women’s collection. We designed the entire men’s collection. And we designed 20 shoes,” said Kanye. “We coming in September, and it’s about to be a paradigm shift.”
The “Bound 2” rapper also addressed his former partners at Nike.
“Listen at the Nike campus, that methodology, that’s not going to work. All of this leveraging and extortion is not going to work now because I’m at Adidas,” said Kanye. “The game is flipped now. There’s nobody you can run to and nowhere you can hide right now.”
Mr. West also explains his recent highly criticized comparisons to police officers and military members.
“If I compare myself to a soldier or cop, that’s saying I’m going to work everyday and I’m on my grind,” explains Kanye. “I’m on my grind like I’m an officer. I’m on my grind like a soldier. I’m a solider when I’m in that booth.”

The founding member of Three 6 Mafia, the Memphis collective, died of a heart attack.
Infamous, real name Ricky Dunigan, died in his sleep at the age of 40 on Friday.
As previously reported, DJ Paul said that his friend was tired. “He said he was tired, he wanted to sleep. He sat down at the kitchen table, put his head in his arms to lay down … to get some sleep.”
A ways back, we saw that Drake and Zoe Kravitz were hanging out tough on the tour bus. Well, the pictures weren’t totally telling the story at that time. Why? Because it just wasn’t. But, that’s all different now. Over the weekend, Drake and Zoe were seen completely “making out” at a Beyonce concert. They were all up in VIP with J. Cole enjoying the show like a herb. LOL!

Talib Kweli released his sixth solo album, Gravitas last Sunday (December 15th) exclusively on his KweliClub.com website in a move similar to Beyonce’s iTunes-exclusive release of her self-titled album two days prior. Kweli expresses how these moves and others are just indicative of a larger shift in distribution:
I think that’s where it’s at. People don’t respond to corporate marketing plans. Kanye did the same thing with Yeezus. He just dropped it out of no where. People respond to the actual artist. So as an artist we have to take responsibility into what we put out.
A few weeks ago, the outspoken lyricist caught flack from Hot 97’s Program Director Ebro Darden over stating ” New York radio does not support New York music.” Kweli further elaborated on his stance
I got respect for Trinidad James. I think he was trying to make a point and he made it poorly. I understand where he’s trying to get at. I think that Maino was making a point and made it correctly. That’s my man. Me and Maino got records to goetehr. But you know, I understand there’s a difference between saying ‘the south runs New York’ and saying New York radio play mostly down south records. Now if you want to get into the cause and the rudiments of that there’s a lot of different reasons. It’s not always the fault of the artist or the radio station. Sometimes the fans have to take some responsibility in what they purchase and what they listening to.

(AllHipHop News) For the first time since his partner Lord Infamous’ sudden death on Friday (December 20th), DJ Paul spoke on Infamous’ last moments alive, funeral plans and if he saw signs.
During an interview with XXL, Paul says Infamous’ girlfriend was planning on returning to his home to take them to her mother’s house. However, hours after she left his mother found him slumped over at his kitchen table:
He told her he was tired and was going to lie down. So she was like, “Just make sure you be ready in the morning, we got to be there at 9 o’clock.” He was like, “Yeah OK, I’m just going to lie down.” I guess he was fixing himself something to eat and put his head down on the table and she had left. Then when his momma came, that’s how she found him. Still lying with his head on his lap on the table. He had died from a heart attack in his sleep.
According to Paul, besides walking with a cane as a result of a 2010 stroke, his half brother showed no signs of ill health. However, Paul does reveal that Infamous was attempting to make amends with anyone he slighted in the past after receiving a grave diagnosis from his doctor weeks before his passing:
He told me like two weeks ago. And I don’t know if the doctors told him this for real or he was f###### with me. He was like, “I got like four months to live, doctor told me because of my kidneys started back up from the stroke.” I was like, “Get out of here.”
A funeral date has not been set and Paul stated in the interview he is still questioning whether to hold a public viewing for the fans.
Marcos Maidana utterly destroyed Adrien Broner a week or so ago. The internets were happy, because they wanted the cocky boxer to get what they thought he deserved. But, Broner my have a silver lining in this mess. There is now an investigation on Maidana! People saw (I didn’t) that during the fight the Argentina sensation took some sort of pill. He would go on to beat up the former WBA Champion Broner. In fights, you cannot take any sort of substance what so ever during a fight. Broner expects to eventually find proof that his adversary cheated.
Now, Alex Ariza the strength and conditioning coach of Maidana has been in the hot seat many times, charged with using performance enhancing drugs and the such with fighters. He has maintained that he did no wrong and what he gave Maidana was some sort of cotton gauze to wipe his nose and eyes. There was no inhalant, he said, and that Maidana will pass all drug tests.

AIDS is no joke and some feel it was engineered to kill “undesirables” like Blacks, browns and gays. And if you want to be nice, perhaps its just there for population control. (AllHipHop News) Lord Infamous, a founding member of Three 6 Mafia, has died.
At press time, the cause of the death was unknown, but several members of have confirmed his passing.
DJ Paul verified that Infamous died December 20 at his mother’s house in his native Memphis, TN.
Gangsta Boo tweeted, “Rest in Peace Lord Infamous. Please respect the family and dear friends during this tragedy.”
Lord Infamous was on the earliest recorded albums from Three 6 Mafia, dating back to the early 90’s.

(Allhiphop News)Amazon may one day will be able to fly your package to you in 30 minutes with a flying drone…unless it’s Beyonce’s new album Beyonce. Due to Beyonce’s unorthodox album release, Amazon has joined Target as retailers refusing to release the CD of Beyonce.
Apple iTunes was the exclusive distributor of Beyonce for the first week of its release, a move that kept Target from selling the CD as they “are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats,” according to an official statement. Amazon has not released a statement on their refusal to sell Beyonce’s CD other than through third party retailers.
Industry insiders speculate that Beyonce’s surprise release is the reason for Amazon’s decision. Reportedly, Sony Music Entertainment denied Amazon pre-order rights to the new album due to its surprise release. The Beyonce album is being featured in the “New Releases” section of Amazon’s Music department, however a few fan reviews on the site complain about not receiving the 17 videos that came with the iTunes-exclusive of Beyonce.

(AllHipHop Features) The saying “absence make the heart grow fonder” is not a phrase that most music insiders would agree applies to their business. In today’s ADD entertainment climate, if a music act is not feeding its fans with constant quality material their base is likely to move on to another artist who fulfills the Millennial generation’s need for instant gratification.
For those reasons, making a successful comeback to the game after a seven-year hiatus would appear to be an unachievable goal, but the early signs show Los Angeles Hip Hop group Jurassic 5’s reunion is on the path to defying music industry norms.
The creators of well-received albums like Quality Control and Power In Numbers are set to drop a new LP in 2014. Besides crafting their first project since 2006’s Feedback, Akil The Mc, Zaakir, Mark 7even, DJ Nu-Mark, Chali 2na, and Cut Chemist have also returned to rocking stages around the world including a set at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest that received rave reviews. According to Akil, it was a power greater than J5 that initiated the group’s return.
“We’re just going on the Creator’s time. The Creator said it was time for us to split up, and the Creator brought us back,” says Akil. “It was up for us to accept what happened and see the benefit in it. So us getting back together was beautiful.”
While group members have not publicly expressed exactly why Jurassic 5 parted ways, Akil reveals that the separation had to do with a combination of things like lack of communication, mismanagement, and poor decision-making.
Jurassic 5 was able to move past those personal issues and get back in the studio to complete their long-awaited fifth album. They plan to release it around July 5th, 2014 or “J5 Day.” The collection will include new cuts as well as previously unreleased tracks featuring production from Salaam Remi from the Feedback sessions. Even though those songs were recorded when most of the college aged kids now were still in middle school, Akil is not worried about the work sounding aged.
“The unique thing about us is that our style is old school. For us to have songs that are so-called ‘dated’ it doesn’t matter. It’s kind of like an oxymoron,” says Akil. He also expresses J5’s electric onstage chemistry and the renewed interest in the culture’s essence will be the ultimate selling point for J5 to still effectively stand beside today’s younger rap stars.
“Our newest song is like seven or eight years old, and we’re still rocking like that s**t just came out yesterday,” adds Akil. “The person that just came out two years ago or even five years ago ain’t even been to where we have catapulted to right now. Yeah, it’s because what we’ve done in the past, but just because you’re an old school group that doesn’t necessarily mean you can fit within right now. It’s beautiful that we fit into what’s going on right now- this resurgence of Hip Hop.”

Hip Hop heads not only can expect a new studio album from Jurassic 5 in the near future, but also a live album and a DVD documentary as well. Each member is also working on individual projects.
Akil produced about 75% of the tracks on his own upcoming independent debut solo album Soundcheck. To round out the soundscape for Soundcheck, he also connected with a cast of international producers including California’s Exile, New Zealand’s P-Money, and an unknown beatmaker from a small southeastern European nation.
“I was in Macedonia, and I ran into this guy in a bunker in Eastern Europe. This dude had some of the dopest beats I ever heard,” explains Akil. “I was there to do a project for somebody else, but he was playing me these beats and was like, ‘Hold on. Don’t play no more. I have to write a song to this.’ I got a couple of heaters from him that’s on the album.”
The Jurassic 5 projects and “J5 Day” are still a several months away. In the meantime, supporters can satisfy their J5 craving by checking out the Morrison, Colorado performance scheduled for January 31st or their Auckland, New Zealand concert on March 26th. Akil testifies it is that face-to-face experience that will ultimately guarantee Jurassic 5 complies to the new age need for having everything right now.
“I think that’s the plus we have with our live show. We’re able to pull of that instant gratification right there in front of you,” says Akil. “Regardless if you’ve heard of us or not, that’s been our history with our group. We have been able to tap into the human spirit wherever it’s at and give them what they need.”

Judith Hawkey was found guilty of aggravated murder and multiple counts of child endangering in connection with the death of Robert Breininger. She will receive her sentence Thursday afternoon in Defiance Common Pleas Court.
Authorities initially ruled Breininger’s death accidental until new evidence re-opened the investigation two years ago. Prosecutors said Hawkey physically and emotionally abused the child for many years prior to the shooting.
