EXCLUSIVE: Peter Gunz Explains How Working on Shaquille O'Neal Album Put Him In Jail (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Peter Gunz’s most recognizable song, “De Ja Vu (Uptown)” with Lord Tariq resulted from a probation violation, Rikers’ Island stay and Shaquille O’Neal’s 1996 album You Can’t Stop The Reign.

Peter Gunz appeared on Cipha Sounds’ Hip Hop improv show Take It Personal and told the story of how him working on Shaq’s third album resulted in him being sent to Rikers. According to the man formerly known as Pete Lova, after catching a gun charge(and subsequently changing his name to Peter Gunz) he had mandatory probation. What happened after a young Peter Gunz was called to work on Shaq’s album is a mixture of complicated serendipity.

The UCB improvisers turned his frequent probation visits into a hilarious sketch in the futility of fighting a probation officer’s request.

Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal is every Friday at 9pm at 153 E 3rd St in New York City.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Akon Discriminating Against Dark-Skinned Women?

Akon has seemingly been chilling, just doing his thing and living off his GaGa money. But, over in Africa, he’s still as major as ever. But, there are new reports that suggest that darker skinned African women have had a hard time getting opportunity in ‘Kon’s videos. Apparently there is a new video being shot over there with Akon and WizKid. Some of the Ghanaian models say that when they got there, the person that initially asked them to come out said that their lovely faces were no longer needed. Why? Seems like they only wanted “half cast” girls for the video aka women of mixed race. Now, Akon and WizKid are never directly implicated, but people assumed the “they” was them as the artists. The other side is this…and this is the sad part. Women in other regions such as Africa and The Caribbean are bleaching their skin to become lighter – or less Black…or perhaps more White. Now, people are looking to boycott Akon from what I heard. I don’t know if Akon has addressed this, because I heard he’s a good dude. But, this sucks.

The “Hi Hater” rapper decided he wanted to speak to Trinidad directly, so Maino called the Atlanta entertainer. The conversation was recorded and has now hit the internet.

“Whatever your intention was it was different from what your actions was that night,” Maino can be heard telling Trinidad. “We can get to a better place all you need to do-  I ain’t saying you need to apologize to me cause it ain’t about me, it’s about my city- you need to apologize to my city.”

“It’s coming out tomorrow,” responded James referring to his video message titled “The Truth Will Set You Free” that he released earlier this week.

Chief Keef Partially Pays Off Back Child Support To Avoid Arrest

(AllHipHop News) It appears that Chicago rapper Chief Keef will not be getting arrested for missing child support payments. TMZ reports that a Cook County judge offered Keef the opportunity to pay back $11,000 of the reported $20,900 he owed to his child’s mother in order to avoid more jail time. He apparently paid the portion required.

New York Cop Files Racial Profiling Lawsuit Against Macy's

(AllHipHop News) Ever since the racial profiling allegations against Barneys and Macy’s became public the retailers and the police have gone back and forth about exactly which was responsible for the discrimination. The stores implicated the New York Police Department as the instigators. The cops claimed it was the stores that asked them to stop customers. Now it is a former cop that says she was the victim in a case of profiling at one of the sites.

The HuffPost reports Hispanic officer Jenny Mendez is suing Macy’s for $40 million because she believes was arrested at the location because of her race. Mendez was shopping at the NYC flagship store on Black Friday last year when a bag with clothes she had not paid for yet was stolen from her possession.

Store security caught the accused shoplifter, but when Mendez arrived at the security office with more items that she had not paid for yet she was then detained for shoplifting. The police were called and she was arrested.

Eventually, Mendez was acquitted of the charges in September because a store detective admitted during the trial that her supervisors told her to file a false confession from Mendez.

“Your boss is telling you to lie on this report?” Mendez’ lawyer Philip Karasyk asked the detective in court.

“I guess so, yes,” the detective responded.

Mendez says the whole ordeal caused her to lose her job with the NYPD. This suit comes after Treme actor Robert Brown sued Macy’s and the NYPD last month for profiling as well.

The suit even states that Antney placed herself as the chief financial officer of Gucci’s 1017 Brick Squad Records without him knowing and then created splinter companies from 1017.

The 33-year-old rapper alleges that Antney and Waka’s business practices have caused him serious financial problems including tax issues. He also names DJ Xavier “Zaytoven” Dotson, Khia Stone, and OJ da Juiceman in the suit.

Ol' Dirty Bastard's Documentary Gets Complicated, Family Gets Accused of "Greed"

(AllHipHop News) Last Friday’s (November 15th) screening of the Ol’ Dirty Bastard documentary Dirty Platinum at Brooklyn Academy of music went from a celebration of the life of one of the most celebrated figures in Hip Hop history to a near violent mess.  During an interview with XXL, NuHo Film Festival’s owner, Chris Kanik explains how the alleged greed of ODB’s family is what kept the documentary from being screened.

[ALSO CHECK OUT: Ol Dirty Bastard’s Estate Stops Brooklyn Screening of ODB Documentary]

At the event, Kanik informed the packed crowd that the film would not be shown due to the lawyers of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s estate filing a cease and desist order. However, in his interview, Kanik reveals that he knew of the cease and desist order a full day before the screening was supposed to happen and attributed its failure to ODB’s family’s “greed”.

I thought everything was handled, and then 24 hours before the event, their lawyers contact us again and start spelling out all the money and damages. It’s an issue of plain and simple greed. It’s plain and simple greed. These people are not interested in enhancing the legacy of ODB, they’re more interested in putting up front money in their pockets.

According to Kanik, he was under the assumption that Raison Allah had secured all the rights for the documentary he brought to Kanik in March due to the fact that some of the documentation had the signature of Icelene Jones, ODB’s widow on them. Kanik alleges that ODB’s son, Young Dirty Bastard sent text messages to Kanik demanding $50,000 and a percentage of the DVD sales. Kanik offered the estate and ODB’s family 25% of all the money made from the film and was allegedly never counter offered by the family.

The family has not issued a formal comment, countering Kanik’s claims.

Barneys Cancels Jay Z Event Originally Planned To Kick Off Partnership

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z may be going ahead with his exclusive apparel line with Barneys New York, but apparently the new partnership is not one for a celebratory party anymore. The Daily News is reporting that the high-end retail store has scrubbed their planned charity event for Jay’s Shawn Carter Foundation.

Barneys issued a statement that read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the event has been canceled.”

The store came under fire after two separate African American customers accused the retailer of racially profiling them for buying expensive items. Calls for Jay Z to end his ties with Barneys came soon after the news broke, but the Brooklyn mogul announced recently that he will continue on with his holiday collection with 100% of the proceeds now going to his nonprofit organization.

The “Empire State of Mind” rapper also plans to take on leadership role on a council reviewing the customer profiling policies at Barneys.

Rick Ross Says "F*ck XXL" On Big Sean's "10 2 10" Remix

(AllHipHop News) This looks familiar.

Today, Big Sean released the remix to his Hall of Fame track “10 2 10” with new verses from himself as well as Travis Scott and Rick Ross. It is Ross who delivers a moment similar to Kendrick Lamar’s on “Control”, as he takes aim at XXL”:

16s are coke, all my verses be dope/F*ck X-X-L, ’cause I’m The Source to these quotes

While there is no official word on why Ross would have sent such a inflammatory bar, it should be noted that Ross emphasized the letters “X-X-L”. That could be in reference to the L-rating XXL gave to Maybach Music Group’s Self Made Vol. 3 back in September. In addition, Rick Ross has not had a solo cover on XXL since gracing the cover of the July/August 2012 issue.

Eminem Calls "My Name Is" An Anti-Pop Song, Talks Life After Addiction + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The second installment of Zane Lowe and BBC Radio One’s interview with Eminem centers around the rapper’s analysis of his career from the perspective of both a pop icon and a recovering addict.

The first song to put Eminem on the nation’s radar was “My Name Is”, his inaugural single from his 1999 debut album The Slim Shady LP.  While Eminem fully comprehends the humor, he is still dumbfounded at the irony of an “anti-pop song” becoming a hit:

The whole record was tongue and cheek. I’m still doing alot of records like that to this day that are tongue and cheek. You know what I’m saying? But that record in particular was just like…it was almost like my anti-pop song, because it was my hello to the world but was my ‘f*ck you’ to the world at the same time. So I never understood when all that started happening it was like ‘holy sh*t how did that become …I guess a pop song?’

The interview turned somberly reflective for a few minutes as Zane Lowe asked Eminem about his feelings on not joining the list of recently deceased megastars such as Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson:

I’m able to be more focused now than I’ve ever been. But I’m also able to, I guess put it in perspective. But the problem is I can’t put a lot of perspective because I don’t…there was a lot…there was a lot that I don’t remember. Maybe that’s cool too. I don’t know, man. I know that there’s so many addicts in this world, and people who have problems like that that don’t make it. So I’m thankful for that.

Check out Eminem speak on his lyrical ability, song structures and more in the full second installment of Zane Lowe’s four part interview below:
