#AlternativePick – Tee Flii “Act A Fool” (VIDEO)

What do you get when you mix the new ratchet sounds of South Central LA with a singer that sounds like The Dream or The Weeknd? The answer is Tee Flii and his new genre of music he calls “Flii & B” – not R&B. It works too, with posts across the net and California clubs going crazy, Tee Flii sits atop the ratchet movement of LA with Problem, YG and host of other artists that are quickly defining the “New California” movement of artists.

Not only can Tee Flii sing, but he also produces his own music and he can dance having learned moves alongside Chris Brown in the flick Stomp the Yard.  It’s only a matter of time before Tee Flii gets his deal, the only question is how much are the labels going to have to fork over the get this kid on the team?

As showcased on ANNIERUO’TAY I and II, its clear Tee Flii will be setting the standard for hooks and melodies on songs for a long time. Fans of his Flii & B style can look forward to features with YG, Nipsey Hussle, Badd Lucc, Problem, Skeme, Pooh Bear and many others on his ANNIERUO’TAY projects.

Until then take a look at his new video for the song “Act a Fool” below:

March Madness: Florida Gulf Coast University Rap Song?

As the NCAA tournament rolls into the Sweet 16, one of the most impressive stories of March Madness has been the small 15 seed, Florida Gulf Coast University. Surpassing the hyped up #2 seed Georgetown and beating San Diego State University to move on, FGCU is undoubtedly the Cinderella story of the tournament. Now as the Eagles are set to face the University of Florida, a rap song has surfaced by FGCU fans, flipping Tyga’s “Rack City” into “Dunk City,” aka Ft. Meyers, Florida.

Before the tournament, the MGM in Vegas gave 2,000 to 1 odds for FGCU to win the tournament. Now the Eagles’ gave 40 to 1 odds. According to ESPN, The Las Vegas Hotel said it has one person who placed a $10 bet on FGCU to win its region at 1,000 to 1. EXCLUSIVE: Vanessa Simmons Talks First Leading Role in “My First Loves”

(AllHipHop News) Vanessa Simmons has transformed from a reality show star in Run’s House to a leading lady in My First Loves, an upcoming film that highlights her skills as an actress.

The spotlight in nothing new to Vanessa, but she admitted that this feeling was quite different from her other ventures in TV and fashion.

“I’m very excited, I’ve definitely had a chance through these couple of years to experiment and do some indies and some TV work and I’m excited that I was cast to be the lead in this role. I think that it definitely is broadening my horizons and I think it has taken me out of my comfort zone, but I’m excited to tell this story.”

Published author and accomplished filmmaker Dominga Martin chose Simmons as the leading lady in her new film that Vanessa describes as “honest.”

“It gets real honest from a female’s point of view. Its just real honest, I’m just excited to be working with Dominga, and not only did she write it but she also is directing it as well,” Vanessa told AllHipHop.com. “I think that its bold and courageous and definitely inspiring”

Vanessa says that the character that she plays in the film is a woman that many women in today’s world will be able to relate to.

“I think that Starla is just really relatable, she is a hard working, young lady, who I feel like is looking for love. It sounds sort of chick-flickish, but that’s our story aside from our contributions back to the world, I think we are here to find love and to share that with somebody else, and I think that her story is very relatable to other people in what we go through as women in finding that one person we can share our life with.”

Dominga Martin said she was instantly impressed with Vanessa.

“She had [the right] demeanor, voice, characteristics…we hit it off and she loved the script,” she said. “I met Vanessa Simmons about two years ago and she looked just like the character in my head”

The movie is gaining funding from Martin’s production company, House Of Ming’s crowd funding campaign on IndieGoGo.com started in February of 2013 and plans to begin filming this summer.

A$AP Rocky Talks About Hip-Hop and ‘The Gay Thing’ In New Interview

(AllHipHop News) A$AP Rocky is one of the hottest rappers in the industry right now. His latest album Long.Live.A$AP landed at number one on the charts and since then he has become a fixture at fashion shows and mainstream media outlets, but despite all that success the Harlem native continuously has to addressed one area of criticism that he cannot seem to avoid- the perceived “gay thing” because of his fashion choices.

Late last year Rocky appeared on BET’s 106 & Park in what many thought was a women’s dress. He later explained that the attire was a high fashion oversized designer t-shirt, but that didn’t stop the critics from pouncing on the “Fashion Killa” performer for his abstract apparel.

“Fashion was a natural thing to me,” Rocky is quoted telling Interview Magazine according to a report by the New York Daily News. “It was just one of those things that helped me be an individual … and it helped me get the attention that most people try to get with publicity stunts or by doing other crazy things.”

But does what a person choose to wear represent their sexual preference, and does it even matter? Rocky says it shouldn’t.

“One big issue in Hip-Hop is the gay thing. It’s 2013, and it’s a shame that, to this day, that topic still gets people all excited. It’s crazy. And it makes me upset that this topic even matters when it comes to Hip-Hop,” says Rocky.

A$AP Rocky also tells Interview that the Hip-Hop community’s negative focus on homosexuality is a black eye on the culture.

“It makes it seem like everybody in Hip-Hop is small-minded or stupid — and that’s not the case,” says Rocky. “We’ve got people like Jay-Z. We’ve got people like Kanye. We’ve got people like me. We’re all prime examples of people who don’t think like that.”

In the March 15th edition of Rolling Stone A$AP Rocky even called himself “the least homophobic cat in rap.”

Rocky wants to not only represent a new more socially progressive emcee, but he wants his fans to join him in being more accepting of different lifestyles too.

“I treat everybody equal, and so I want to be sure that my listeners and my followers do the same if they’re gonna represent me,” says Rocky. “And if I’m gonna represent them, then I also want to do it in a good way.”

Mos Def Performs Unreleased Track Produced By Kanye West

(AllHipHop News) Most people still know him as Mos Def, but the man who now professionally goes by Yasiin Bey took it back to his pre-name change days when he performed at The Shrine in Chicago recently.

The G.O.O.D. Music member debuted the previously unreleased song “The Light is Afraid of the Dark” during the show. The Kanye West produced track was originally planned to be on Bey’s third studio album, True Magic, released in 2006, but it did not make the final tracklist.

True Magic featured production mostly by Minnesota and Preservation with a couple of tracks produced by Mos Def himself.

Bey and West have worked together numerous times including “Two Words” off The College Dropout, “Drunk And Hot Girls” off Graduation, and “Lord, Lord, Lord” from the G.O.O.D. Friday series.

Kanye also produced Mos Def’s “The Rape Over” and “Sunshine” from his The New Danger album.

Yasiin Bey has been in the studio working with legendary southern Hip-Hop producer Mannie Fresh for his next LP which is tentatively titled OMFGOD, and there has been talk for years that Bey will hook back up with his Brooklyn counterpart Talib Kweli for a follow-up to their classic collaborative album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star.

Lupe Fiasco Takes To Twitter To Address Violence In Rap Music

(AllHipHop News) Notoriously outspoken emcee Lupe Fiasco used his Twitter account on Sunday to speak out against violent content in the media and rap music in particular.

In a series of tweets that were posted over a 20 minute span, Lupe argues that there is a definite connection between violence in music and violence in the real world.

He goes on to call out rappers who he feels uses violent imagery in their music and says they need to take responsibility for the content they produce and its effects on the public.

This latest social media lament by the Chicago native appeared to be sparked as a reaction to the ongoing violence playing out in his hometown as well as a news story about the killing of an infant in Georgia.

This is not the first time the “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” rapper has shared his belief that there is a connection between the violence in music and the violence in the streets.

Last year during an interview with 92Q in Baltimore, Lupe spoke on fellow Chicago rapper Chief Keef and his brand of rap music.

“Chief Keef scares me. Not him specifically, but just the culture that he represents,” said Lupe. “When you’re at high schools speaking to students, telling ‘em how to survive the summer and you turn on the radio and you hear that? You like, ‘Aw nah.’”

Those comments set off a twitter beef between the two rap stars (though Keef later said his account was hacked), and Lupe even contemplated leaving the rap game all together. Eventually Lupe apologized for his remarks.

Lupe concluded his twitter manifesto yesterday by retweeting over 50 reactions to his statements, and then he touched on the comparison to violence in today’s entertainment to the violence depicted in Shakespearean plays.
