Snoop’s Son Gets Scholarship Offer from UCLA

(AllHipHop News) West Coast Hip-Hop legend, Snoop Dogg, is a proud father, as his son was offered a scholarship to UCLA’s football program recently.

While his son Cordell Broadus is still a sophomore at Diamond Bar High School, the young footballer is listed at 6’2″, 185 lbs and is expected to lead his team this fall.

“We’re expecting him to really lead us the next three years,” Diamond Bar High School football coach Ryan Maine explained to ESPN LA. “Hopefully [our athletes] get bigger , stronger and keep leading this team.”

This is the second high profile offering from UCLA this off-season, as Hip-Hop mogul Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, is expected to attend UCLA this fall after his highly publicized signing with UCLA

Combs looks to turn things around for UCLA this season as the Bruins have struggled over the last few years.

Last year the Bruins won six games, competing in the Pac-12 championship only to lose to Oregon.  The Bruins did make it to a bowl game, but came up short losing to Illinois in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

FASHION FORWARD: From TV To Camera-Ready Looks, “Bad Girls Club’s” Elease Donovan Is Making Her Mark

The daughter of a beauty pageant queen and fashion’s love child, Elease Donovan is following the path set before her at a young age. The designer and former “Bad Girls Club” star currently has a line of glamorous, jungle-inspired swimsuits, with a touch of Miami influence.

Donovan says she has plans to follow in the footsteps of Tory Burch and Kimora Lee Simmons, putting it this way: “I admire their business sense and immaculate styles. That’s why I’m molding my steps as a businesswoman after those two. They have shown the world what fashion should be about.”

From the looks of things, she is headed down the right path – in fly gear, of course! Donovan’s days of cutting up clothes – to reinvent looks as a youngster – has lead to her revamping the feel of swimsuits. Her line is sexy and standout, just what summer calls for.

The Kingston, Jamaica native’s future plans include a line of high end dresses, shoes, and accessories. Donovan also envisions creating a line of men’s swimwear and trunks, as well as accessories. She is working hard to get her pieces in retail and online stores.

“For any of you all in Miami, or when you come to visit, check out Elease Donovan Swimwear at AGS Miami. Stop in and shop,” encourages the designer.

When asked what she would tell any aspiring stylist or dreamer, Donovan shares, “Planning is vital. Know what you’re doing and what you want. Think it through, take your time, and everything will come together.”

It’s evident that she is taking her own advice.

There’s fashion, and then there are those who know what it takes to make fashion what it’s meant to be. Elease Donovan has always had a clear understanding.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Are Drake And Chris Brown Going To Duke It Out In The Ring?

Drake and Chris Brown got into a now infamous nightclub bottle fight a few weeks back, and now we hear they are being offered big bucks to take the fight into the boxing ring. According to Celebzter.com, Celebrity Boxing Founder Damon Feldman has offered Drake and Chris Brown $1 Million each to step into the ring and fight each other like real men. The winner will get Rihanna! Just kidding.

The fight, if the two accept, would take place on Saturday August 25 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. A portion of the proceeds would go to a charity for abused women.

Feldman says that he has left voice mails for both stars’ reps and is waiting for them to return his calls.

Do you think either Drake or Breezy would even consider this offer? C.B. may not even entertain it since the charity is for battered women, and he may take that as a subliminal diss. I think they should organized a boxing match themselves, put it on pay-per-view and donate all of the proceeds to Tony Parker, ha ha!

But seriously, if they set it up themselves and donated the funds to a charity of their choice, they may be able to come out of this scandal unscathed. Would you pay to see Breezy and Drizzy in the ring together?

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian Sued For “Conspiring With Al-Qaeda”

(AllHipHop News) A man who holds the Guinness Book of World Records as “The World’s Most Litigious Man” is at it again.

Jonathan Lee Riches, who has filed over 5,000 lawsuits in the past eight years, filed his latest against Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

The lawsuit, which was filed in the Northern District of West Virginia on June 21, claims that he and all American citizens are an eminent danger and bodily harm from the defendants.

The lawsuit, which also names Kris Jenner, Bruce Jenner, Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian, claims that all of the defendants are “terrorists.”

“On 6/17/2012 I was in West Virginia, deep in the hills and I stumbled upon the defendants who were all at a Al-Qaeda secret training camp,” Riches wrote in his latest frivolous lawsuit.

Riches, who filed the lawsuit under the alias Gino Romano, claims that the Kardashian’s and Kanye West pleaded their allegiance to Al-Qaeda, burned the U.S. flag and stomped their feet on Barack Obama’s picture.

The lawsuit claims that Kanye West then performed a concert for all Al-Qaeda members and shot AK-47s in the air.

Riches, who was recently released from prison for fraud, also claims that Kanye West is now the new leader of notorious Chicago Street gang, the El-Rukns.

The Gentrification of Rap: Did Hip-Hop Sell Us Out ?

“a.k.a. a sellout /rap definition/get off that boy/change your mission” – “Crossover”, EPMD

Although broken glass was everywhere, unemployment was at a record high and 911 was a joke, Clive Saddler’s Sedgwick Avenue neighborhood was not the jungle the media portrayed; it was home and full of promise. But everyday the six o’clock news would run stories about drugs, murder, and falling property values. That was until Universal Development Corp. came in with the bulldozers. One year later, the streets are clean, new businesses are on every corner, and the police know everybody by name. Clive still lives there, behind the garbage bin of Sal’s Deli. But what happened to the rest of his neighborhoods who couldn’t afford the rent of the new brownstones? Nobody knows and nobody cares….

If you live in any ‘hood in America chances are you have heard of gentrification. In every city it’s the same story, businesses close down, property values drop, and the local news starts reporting about how dangerous the neighborhood has become. Then one day, a development company rolls in and buys up all the property dirt cheap. A few years later, the projects have become a
paradise, and the news is reporting how it is one of the best places to live in America.

The same can be said for Hip-Hop.

In the early years, rap music was seen as the authentic voice of “inner city” America. Groups from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to Run DMC made records about the trials and tribulations of growing up in the proverbial “ghetto.” Within five years, rap music had grown from just an obligatory observation to a critical analysis of the socio-economic conditions that created the ‘hood in the first place.

Although Hip-Hop has had a small group of hip, suburban fans since the early years, for most of mainstream White America, rap music was something to be feared and best avoided. However, by the end of the ’80s, MTV and major corporations had come to realize that the money that could be made from what they once considered ghetto garbage outweighed the risk of getting mugged in some dark alley way in the South Bronx.

As the popularity of “Yo! MTV Raps” began to grow, so did White America’s acceptance of Hip-Hop. So, by the time Treach of Naughty By Nature issued the chilling warning, “If you ain’t never been to the ghetto, don’t ever come to the ghetto,” White America saw it as a party invitation. If you watch some of the throwback Hip-Hop documentaries, the climax is always when a teary eyed Ol’ School rapper reminisces about that glorious day when his majority Black
audience turned lily white.”

But, in retrospect, was that a good thing?

Of course, the added exposure meant more money in the bank, but at what cost? Contrary to the title of LL Cool J’s classic album, “bigger” ain’t always “deffer.”

Crossover kills.

Probably, the area hardest hit by crossover was Afrocentric, conscious Hip-Hop. While it was briefly tolerated by White America, it was never truly accepted by the mainstream. There were just so many times that Poindexter was gonna allow himself to be called a “slave maker and bloodsucker of the poor,” regardless of how funky the beat was. Thus, answering the great philosophical question, “can a man condemn himself?” with an emphatic no.

While much attention has been given to “gangsta rap” as the cause of the demise of pro-Black Hip-Hop, it must be remembered that the the less racially “offensive” De La Soul and the Native Tongue Movement, as well as the dance music of MC Hammer and the rise of Vanilla Ice, played a role as well.

During that era, while the average Black rapper rejoiced in his newfound suburban fans, it was, actually, white rappers, MC Serch and Pete Nice from 3rd Bass, that warned of the change that was coming on songs like “Gas Face” and “Pop Goes the Weasel.”

So, as time progressed, the measure of the success of a rap artist became how many middle class White kids bought his CDs. And eventually “Yo! MTV Raps” eclipsed the popularity of shows like BET’s “Rap City”. For instance, although many rap fans are familiar with Ed Lover, Dr. Dre, and T-Money, only a true Hip-Hop head can tell you about Chris Thomas, Joe Clair, and Big Lez.

While many may point to money as the motivating factor behind crossover, that is not entirely true, as one cannot put a dollar value on the psychological need for White acceptance in the Black psyche.

Have you ever wondered why the superstar rapper who always shows up grinnin’ at the Grammy Awards is always missing in action at the Soul Train Music Awards? There is that annual awkward moment when the nervous presenter has to say,

“And the winner of the Lifetime Achievement/Hip-Hop song of the year award is……Well, um, he couldn’t be here tonight, so…um..I’m gonna accept this on his behalf…”

It is said that, “Once you go Black, you never go back,” but once you go White forget about it. If Biffy leaves Sally Ann for Shaquana, he may get a little more swag in his style and start listening to “some Marvin Gaye, some Luther Vandross, a little Anita to set the party off right,” but he’s basically the same dude.

But when Rasheed leaves Bonita for Becky, he loses his darn mind. His whole world perspective changes. All of a sudden, even the most culturally aware brotha develops cultural amnesia and becomes a colorblind, Hip-Hop hippie, vehemently attacking any discussion of “Black” issues as outdated and racist.

As we wind down another Black Music Month, the point here is not to whine about what happened to our culture. But to develop ways to save it.

Or else, one day when our children ask us what happened to real Hip-Hop, we’ll just shrug our shoulders and sing like Joni Mitchell:

“They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kelis Finally Comments On Nas Using Her Wedding Dress On His Album Cover!

Singer Kelis has finally decide to share her thoughts on her ex-husband, rapper Nas, using her wedding dress on his Life Is Good album cover. The bossy singer surprisingly had only good things to say:

“My feelings about it are not really relevant, but you know at the end of the day Nas is an artist. And for whatever it’s worth he’s one of the greatest, and especially for what it is he does.”

“So for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it’s awesome. So my feelings about it aren’t really necessarily valid, it’s just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve.”

Check out the full interview below:

Hmm, are you taking her comments for face value, or is she really trying to say something else here?

I wonder what ever happened to all of the footage from Na and Kelis’ Mr. and Mrs. Jones reality show. I bet that footage would be very interesting.

EXCLUSIVE: Jimmy Henchman’s Publicist Statement On Murder Indictment

(AllHipHop News) A representative for incarcerated Hip-Hop mogul James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond has responded to recent news that he has been indicted for a 2009 murder.

Rosemond is currently incarcerated in a federal prison in Brooklyn awaiting sentencing, after he was convicted on 13 charges on June 4, relating to cocaine distribution charges.

Rosemond, who is facing a life sentence in October, was indicted on Friday (June 22), for the September 2009 murder of a man named Lowell Fletcher.

Lowell Fletcher was an associate of 50 Cent, Tony Yayo and G-Unit.

He was also a top leader of a faction of The Bloods gang street gang in Far Rockaway, Queens.

Fletcher, aka Lodi Mack, was involved in an infamous incident, in which Tony Yayo allegedly smacked Rosemond’s son as they left the offices of Violator Management, which handles the career of 50 Cent.

“This new indictment is no surprise, we heard it was a possibility,” Sibrena Stowe de Fernandez told AllHipHop.com. “Again his family and supporters are standing by Jimmy and we’ll let his attorneys do their job.”

Both Lowell Fletcher and Tony Yayo pleaded guilty to the crime of striking Rosemond’s son.

Fletcher served two years for the incident and unrelated charges, in addition to the ultimate price – his life.

In February of 2008, criminal charges were dismissed against Tony Yayo, who was ordered to do public service announcements denouncing violence.

The rapper’s grandmother’s house was also shot up in an incident in April 2007 and 50 Cent’s Dix, Hills mansion was firebombed and burned to the ground in May 2008, while his family was inside.

Tony Yayo addressed the incident on the track “Straight Outta Southside” from the album T.O.S.: Terminate On Site.

Federal prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against James Rosemond for the murder of Lowell Fletcher.
