EXCLUSIVE: Mayor Cory Booker Says Goodbye to the New Jersey Nets as Jay-Z Unveils New Team Logo

We can already hear it now:

“Where’s Brooklyn at? Where’s Brooklyn at?”

Or maybe just the chant: “Broooooooookkkkkklllllllyyyyyynnnnnn!!”

Whatever it may be, the Nets are no longer New Jersey’s own. Whether it’s the billboards in New Jersey wishing the team goodbye, or a famous Mayor lamenting the loss, everyday, something makes the team’s move to Brooklyn seem more real, and it’s also a sign of the demise of another New Jersey team.

Last week, Jay-Z unveiled the new Brooklyn Nets logo, which he designed himself. We gotta give it to the man, it’s a pretty great looking logo. But where does that leave New Jersey? Will Jersey EVER get a sports team for themselves? The New York Giants and New York Jets both play in New Jersey but hold New York names.

Despite the move, Jay-Z brings a fun twist with multiple Hip-Hop references on the new team gear including classic Jay-Z rap titles such as “Hello Brooklyn” (Jay-Z ft. Lil Wayne) and “Brooklyn’s Finest” (Jay-Z ft. B.I.G.).

AllHipHop.com spoke to someone who is taking the loss quite personally – Newark, New Jersey’s Mayor Cory Booker. During our “Politics & Pizza” chat with him last week, we asked the superhero politician how he felt about the transition. Watch the exclusive video below:

While it’s a downer for New Jersey fans (and Mayor Cory Booker), we are pretty stoked for the Nets to go Brooklyn. The logo is dope, and it’s a new beginning. Hopefully, this will inspire the Nets to continue to be great.

The Barclay Center will officially open in September 2012.

“The Dark Knight Rises” Wants You to Forget All About “The Avengers” With Its New Trailer

With less than 72 hours until the rest of the world gets to feast their eyes on The Avengers, which we’ll be having a great review piece on in the coming days, the good folks over at Warner Bros. decided to unveil the new trailer for their summer tentpole and fitting conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

Although the trailer was meant to be seen in front of theater prints of The Avengers, a very brilliant viral marketing campaign has allowed fans to unlock the trailer early so we could all see it just a few days earlier than expected.

The official plot in short, which takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight is as follows: “When Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) stumbles upon a plot to destroy the city from within, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) gets back into action as the Batman. Waiting for him is the mysterious Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy), a lethal adversary on a crusade to tear apart Batman’s legacy piece by piece.”

Rick Ross To Sign Shawnna or Somebody Else?

Rick Ross To Sign Shawnna or ????

(Rumors) So, on Wednesday Rick Ross is hosting some kind of big time press release to make a major announcement. WELL, the strong word on the street is that he’s about to sign Shawnna. Now, that’s interesting, but cool. Why? It’s about time the boss got a woman in the crew. I think that Shawnna is the one for the gig. Why? Lyrically, she’s bonkers. She’s just as or more lyrical than the guys in MMG. She’s shined in other places, i.e. her former affiliation with Ludacris. I’m not sure what happened with her and T-Pain, but T isn’t bringing the pain on the charts any more. So, that’s that.

House Of Blues Backtracks; Says Chicago Police Did Not Force LEP Bogus Boys To Cancel Show

(AllHipHop News) A representative for the House of Blues has issued a statement denying that the Chicago police forced the venue to cancel a performance featuring rap group LEP Bogus Boys.

The Chicago Hip-Hop group made headlines earlier this week, after they were removed from the lineup of the “Been Trill” concert at the House of Blues on May 3, featuring A$AP Rocky.

Group members Moonie and Count stated that representatives for the House of Blues told them they were pulled from the lineup, because of their gang affiliations.

In a statement released to the Chicago Tribune, the House of Blues denied that the Chicago police forced them to cancel LEP Bogus Boys’ performance.

“The House Of Blues made an autonomous decision, one not influenced by the Chicago Police Department, to remove LEP Bogus Boys from the May 3 A$AP Rocky concert,” a House of Blues spokesman told the Tribune. “Unfortunately the decision was initially communicated to the artists’ representation via an e-mail that inaccurately cited the reasons and source of the cancellation. We apologize for any misunderstanding surrounding this decision.”

While the local police department does keep track of rappers who are affiliated with street gangs, a rep said they were not responsible for removing the group from the “Been Trill” lineup.

LEP Bogus Boys’ manager Eric “E” Alvarez, told The Chicago Tribune that the House of Blues still owed the group an explanation either way.

“House of Blues has got to tell me why they would cancel us,” Alvarez said. “You lied on the Chicago police Department, or you’re trying to cover up for the Chicago Police Department.”

“Think Like A Man” Soundtrack Dares to “Be Epic”

For the past few months, I have waited anxiously for the “new” Epic Records to unveil projects from its fresh line-up of R&B singers. Much of this excitement was fueled by Antonio “L.A.” Reid’s attachment to the label, as well as his meticulous selection of executives to assist him with its rollout.

Adding an additional layer of excitement, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart was designated as the president of A&R; his brother, Mark Stewart, was named EVP of A&R operations. On April 10, 2012, the label released one of its first major projects: a soundtrack to the comedy film adaptation of Steve Harvey’s “Act Like A Woman, Think Like A Man”. For this particular release, “Tricky” served as executive producer.

Considering the massive success of the original New York Times bestselling non-fiction text, the pressure was on to match the literary predecessors accomplishments visually – and sonically, with original music for its motion picture soundtrack. In both respects, the mission was soundly accomplished – and the Think Like a Man soundtrack is worthy of residence in the penthouse suite of Billboard’s top albums chart.

To be expected, the compilation includes songs from a few veteran acts:

Inclusions of this sort are to be expected. However, the real gems – and the album’s best-kept secrets – belong to a group of young, aspiring talents. My favorites include: Marcus Canty (“Won’t Make A Fool Out of You”), Quadron (“Baby Be Mine”), RaVaughn (“Same Old Bullsh*t”), and Brandon Hines (“Fire”). Each performance is executed with perfection. Songwriting credits are attributed to Canty and Hines on their respective tracks, too.

Such amazing talent will be the key to Epic Records “takeover” – and “makeover” – of the contemporary R&B landscape. On February 14, 2012, Billboard.biz announced that Sylvia Rhone will be launching her own label under the Epic Records umbrella. With in-house access to the professional guidance and dedicated mentorship of esteemed industry veterans, like L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone, this group of aspiring artists will undoubtedly be pushed – and expected – to maximize their full potential.

I am particularly excited about Brandon Hines, who recently released a video to his very own non-soundtrack single: “Yes You Are.” The song and accompanying video treatment are simply marvelous.

Viewers of the 2011 edition of The X Factor may also remember Marcus Canty from his dynamic cover of Boyz II Men’s “Song for Mama” – featuring an emotional on-screen moment with his mother.

Time and time again, through unparalleled artistic development techniques under their watch, L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone have produced – in their respective careers – a musical legacy of Midas-like proportions with sustainable acts over the years: Reid (TLC, Usher and Outkast) and Rhone (Drake, Lil’ Wayne and Erykah Badu). Expect nothing subpar from this Epic “dynamic duo.”

Think Like A Man is in theaters now. For more of Clayton Perry’s “views” and interviews, browse his “digital archive” – www.claytonperry.com – and follow him on Twitter (@crperry84).
