Croatian producer Koolade is hosting a worldwide contest offering lyricists the chance record versus over his album Koolade Beats Rocky. Emcees will have the opportunity to work with Koolade, who has crafted tracks for artists like Masta Ace, Bow Wow, Flo Rida and Omarion. “The reason we went with the instrumental version was the huge feedback reaction to the album. So many MCs were asking me if they could rock demos to those beats. So we figured we do an official best acapella competition. It’s going to keep the buzz going, and I just love the whole Koolade Beats Rocky thing going interactive! It’s good for the community and scene in general.” The best track will be featured on popular Hip-Hop radio show Blackout Radio and the winning MC will receive a free beat from Koolade. Jay-Z is a man who does not seem easily shook. He’s been performing live for over 15 years, has played to sold out crowds at Madison Square Garden. and even sold out Yankee Stadium. This guy is a pro.
Well, according to several reporters who attended Jay-Z’s Amex Sync Show on Monday night in Austin, Texas during the SXSW Music Festival, Jay-Z forgot the lyrics to two of his biggest songs! Reports are saying that Hov forgot the words to his Grammy winner, “Empire State of Mind” as well as to the classic “Jigga What, Jigga Who”.
The concert received mixed reviews, with one reporter commenting, “The concert’s first half gave the impression of a man performing for a corporate-sponsored promo event. This was not the rapper’s finest 90 minutes.” – Wow, really?
Maybe Jay had an off night. We’re all entitled to those, aren’t we? Anyone see the show? Did Jigga really flub his lyrics?
The Princess of Hip-Hop and R&B is back! Ashanti returns with an all new video for her latest single “The Way You Love Me”, slated to be on her new album Braveheart.
This is Ashanti’s first album since 2008’s The Declaration, the last album on the now infamous label, The Inc Records. Busta Rhymes also makes sort of a public return in the video, with his fast-spitting rhymes and vocal delivery.
Last week during Paris Fashion Week, Diddy and Shyne finally ended their feud , and now Shyne is talking about their reconciliation and comparing their beef to Tupac and Biggie’s.
“You can’t overstate the cultural significance of what Shyne and Diddy reconciling means. You know I’m about it when it comes to them hammers, thus unfortunately this could have ended like Tupac and B.I.G. But what if Tupac and B.I.G ended like this and reconciled? Let’s celebrate this moment as a historical event and a victory for hip-hop and Afro and Latin American men trained to exterminate each other, It’s a new day! L’chaim!!!”
I can definitely feel where Shyne is coming from. If someone took away 10 years of my freedom, I may have wanted to go get “them hammers” as well. I’m glad Shyne was able to forgive Diddy and move on.

The legendary SOB’s night club has been a staple for the Hip-Hop community over the ears in New York City. Since the release of his mixtape “Krit Was Here”, Big K.R.I.T.’s been one of the premier underground artists to watch. His unique Southern drawl accents a plethora of his talents; his bass-heavy, melodic instrumentals, catchy hooks, and relatable lyrics drive his music in almost every aspect, but even all of that understates the impact he’s had and the loyal following he’s amassed.
From ESPN anchors like Michael Smith and Bomani Jones to Hip-Hop heads and rap connoisseurs alike, K.R.I.T’s music has grown legs to say the very least, and the quality of his music is undeniable. It is with that realization that Krit releases “4Eva N A Day”, the last mixtape to usher us into his debut LP “Live From The Underground”, and although it’s not as impactful as his last two (due to timing, not quality), it’s still by far one of the best projects to drop this year.
In comparison to his previous entries, 4Eva is more of a concept project than a traditional mixtape. The album begins with him waking up, and throughout the songs K.R.I.T. essentially walks us through a “day” of his life. From his reflective mood in the early mornings concerning his passed loved ones in “Yesterday”, to his resolve to achieve greatness in “Boobie Miles”, to riding in his car (“Me & My Old School”, “1986”), to his late night habits explored on the last half of the project, when played as a whole he completes the concept solidly.
Of course, there’s more details to it than that, as K.R.I.T. manages to somehow make all of it sound as authentic as his last few projects, even dropping in personal heartfelt rhymes (most notably in songs like “Red Eye” and “Handwriting”, which deals with his relationship issues concerning his girl and his label, respectively).
The production here is still stellar, and K.R.I.T. continues to diversify his sound, evolving from the generic trunk-rattlers from his early “See Me On Top” mixtape days into making beats that are just as well conceived as his lyrics. The only true flaw here is the thing that makes 4Eva stand out; K.R.I.T. chooses to go this one solo, but he holds his own and it didn’t seem to be a need for a guest appearance to mess up the concept. Although some may think tracks like “1986” are bland, K.R.I.T. more than makes up for that alleged “misstep” as he powers out yet another remarkable mixtape/album that shows just how consistent he is.
K.R.I.T. doesn’t have anything else to prove in the underground circuit after the release of “4Eva N A Day“. All that’s left now is for Mr. Justin Scott to drop the album, right?
(AllHipHop News) The start of its inaugural season is less than two months away and the newly-formed Lady Arena Football League (LAFL) already has a celebrity supporter in rapper Snoop Dogg.
WENN reports that the West Coast rap veteran has become a part owner of the Los Angeles Rideretts by buying shares in the team. Tryouts for the Rideretts were held last Saturday (March 10) in Carson, California.
The LAFL is an 8-on-8 full contact football league that incorporates female athletes who will play in lingerie-style uniforms. According to the leagues’ website, players will compete under the same bylaws and rules of the National Arena Football League.
In addition to the Rideretts, LAFL teams include the Lady Houston Panthers, New Orleans Lady Dollz, Kansas City Tease, and St. Louis Sting. More teams are “coming soon” from Oakland, Atlanta, and Las Vegas, the website states.
Snoop Dogg’s part owner status with the Rideretts marks his latest venture into the world of sports. The entertainer’s Snoop Youth Football League has become a nationwide success with its focus on providing inner-city kids with a chance to participate in youth football, while promoting the importance of academics and the value of teamwork, good sportsmanship, discipline, and self-respect. The youth league, founded by Snoop Dogg, holds its “Snooper Bowl” championship every year on the eve of the Super Bowl.
The inaugural season of the Lady Arena Football League is set to begin in May.
