Just this week, Twista’s single “Wetter” from his last album Category F5 was certified gold, after moving over 600,000 ringtones. Me and Traxster just got back in the studio and went to work like we did in the past, Twista told AllHipHop.com. The Perfect Storm is an album that definitely has tracks for everyone,” Twista revealed. “Weve got tracks like ‘Make A Movie’ with Chris Brown and then some grimier tracks like The Heat with my boy Raekwon. Kanye. Swizz Beatz. Jay-Z. Power. The remix is here and it is nothing shy of brilliant…if you this sort of Hip-Hop. Seriously, the Power remix is a throwback in many regards, because it evokes the original but also reworks it as well. Jay-Z’s been very passionate as of late and this verse is streams from the same vein as other features with Rick Ross and Drake. Swizz Beatz deserves credit for the remix which certainly reaches epic proportions with the inclusion of heavy synths over thumping drums, choirs and guitar wails. There is also a surprise ending! Check it out.
(AllHipHop News) Lauryn Hill appeared in the Billboard charts for the first time in 10 years this week, as the former Fugees singer’s “Repercussions” landed at #94 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song leaked online last month and it’s unclear if it’s a future release, or an unfinished track from previous efforts. “Now it’s a difficult process, a matter of perception/ When I look in the mirror, what is it that I see?/ Is it my reflection?” she sings on the Billboard hit. Hill was last on the Billboard charts in 1999 when her single with Bob Marley, “Turn Your Lights Down Low,” notched the #49 position. In June, the reclusive singer granted a rare interview to NPR and said she was excited about performing again. She appeared at a New Zealand music festival in January of this year. “There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it,” Hill told NPR. “In fact, as musicians and artists, it’s important we have an environment and I guess when I say environment, I really mean the [music] industry that really nurtures these gifts.. Hill went on to the describe the ways in which the music industry pushes its artists to peform and entertain the world. Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society, or at least some aspect of society. And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected. Oftentimes, I think people are forced to make decisions prematurely.” This weekend Lauryn Hill will be performing at the Rock the Bells concert in Los Angeles.
You know him well we all do.
His name is Shad Bow Wow Moss, and he is confident. So confident
that he could make the average soul uncomfortable. Dont be
Bow Wow is humbled. You could even say that hes a little scared.
To a young man which had his career laid out for him since the age of
5, 2010 and beyond could be his great unknown.
Alas, 2010 marks the 10 Year Anniversary
of his debut album Beware of Dog. Yet there is an aura Bow Wow
gave off; 6 albums, 8 movies to his credits, and 2010 is only the beginning?
In his voice, the answer was yes. And the beginning is August 20th
when Lottery Ticket arrives at theaters across the country.
Part 1 of our Lottery Ticket feature
gave us total access and unfiltered perspectives to Cube Visions
visionary, Ice Cube. Part 2 delivers on an extremely vocal leading man,
ready to put the boy behind him. Bow Wow talks about his preparation
for the role of Kevin Carson, his respect for the leading lady Naturi
Naughton, and the Ambassador of his next album.
AllHipHop.com:
Take us back to when you were approached about
Lottery Ticket. Was the role of Kevin yours from the very start?
Bow Wow: My agent called me. Told me
that there was this project pending. They wanted to get me over to the
office for a meeting. I met with Erik White. I was familiar with from
his music video directing. Erik told me that if Im going to do this
movie that he needed me attached to the Kevin role. He said, When
I think Kevin, I think you. I remember taking that long flight back
to Miami, reading the script. And by the time I landed, I was in. We
contacted Erik and from there, all the dominoes were put into place.
Here comes (Ice) Cube, here comes (Mike) Epps, here comes Charlie (Murphy)
and here comes Loretta (Devine). The momentum kept growing. From day
1, I knew that this would be a home run for us. Im just excited to
be on board.
AllHipHop.com:
In which ways have you prepared for this role?
Bow Wow: I watched a lot of movies.
Ive watched Juice, one of my favorite movies. Watching Tupac,
watching Bishop and Q, the roof scene and all that. I needed
all of that as far as the moods of the movie. And you can tell. I wanted
to show people that on screen. Weve watched a lot of duo movies like
The Pineapple Express, Bad Boys, and of coarse weve watched
Friday. We wanted to watch some of the greats. Weve taken bits
and pieces from every movie. And it helped us out a lot.
AllHipHop.com:
Talk about one of the goals youve set for yourself in taking on this
role.
Bow Wow: I just wanted to nail it.
I wanted to show the audience that this is not the rapper, that is the
actor. I wanted people to believe it. And so far, so good. People are
telling me that its believable and that its a good film. I put
all of my all into this. I shut down my schedule for two and a half
months. It was a dream come true working with Cube and Mike. I didnt
want to let anybody down.
AllHipHop.com:
I talked to Ice Cube the other day about the climatic scene of the movie,
the moment between you and Brandon T. Jackson. Cube said he received
a call once you were done taping the scene and he was told that you
and Brandon nailed it. Without giving too much about the scene, what
was it like working with Brandon and talk about what went into
it.
Bow Wow: There was really no preparation
for that particular scene. That was the first scene of the morning.
Brandon and I were laughing and joking. But when they called out, Action,
we ripped it. To me, when youre acting, youre trying. I become
the character. If you become the character, you could be doing anything
at the time someone yells, Action, and youre back in character.
Thats how it works for me. Brandon and I just tapped into the moment.
And when we heard, Cut, we were back having fun. I was back tweeting
to my fans.
AllHipHop.com:
The leading lady for the film is the lovely
Naturi Naughton. What have your learned from and about one another while
working on Lottery Ticket?
Bow Wow: It was very easy working with
Naturi. We both started our music careers around the same time (Naturi
with 3LW). I remember being on tour in London early on in my career
with them. Its funny how God works. I never wouldve imagined that
wed be working together after all these years. She held her own in
this movie. She has so much experience. She pays a lot of attention
to detail, wanting to make sure that every scene is perfect. Shes
very dedicated to the craft. I can really work with an actress like
that. She made my job easier. I have eight films under my belt, as well
as the Tyler Perry film that Im shooting right now. I learned from
Naturi. She didnt need any advice.
AllHipHop.com: Is the Tyler Perry
movie youre speaking of Big Happy Family?
Bow Wow: Correct. Ill have the pleasure
of working with Loretta Devine once more. Its another huge cast.
Im very excited about how my acting career is taking off. I am taking
on all challenges coming my way. The pressure of carrying a Cube Vision
film on my shoulders to working with Tyler Perry; man, skies the limit
for me. No telling whats going to happen next.
AllHipHop.com:
You grew up in front of millions of people. And with that comes advice
from all directions. Everybody seems to know whats best for Bow Wow.
What is some of the best advice youve received and maybe some advice
youve ignored over the years.
Bow Wow: I dont mean to sound stubborn
or anything like that, Im not to fond of taking career advice. I
am fine with personal life advice. As far as the business, theres
nothing that no one can tell me; Ive been doing this since 5. Ive
been fortunate enough to have amazing mentors like Snoop and Jermaine
Dupri, now I have Baby as a mentor. These are guys that I have been
around my entire career. This is why I dont have to ask about anything.
When you have greatness around you, you never have to ask for advice.
The only time I ask for advice is when its personal. Otherwise, I
hold my own.
AllHipHop.com: So how is everything
coming along with Cash Money? Any albums or
mixtapes slated to drop in between your movie endeavors?
Bow Wow: Its simple, Im moving
in any direction that God wants me to move. This Hollywood thing is
taking off for me right now. And its scary because I dont have
as much time as I once had to get into the studio. But Im writing
and I do have the Green Light Mixtape dropping on August 22, 2010.
Its all about making sure that its the right moment. Im bringing
in Jadakiss as the ambassador of my album. Ive decided to bring him
on because I know Kiss. Were close. I remember going to Yonkers for
a basketball event that he had. He brought me to the hood and we hung
out. There are some personal things that he knows about me. One of my
closest friends is from Yonkers. And when he went away, I held him down.
When Kiss heard about that, he gained even more respect for me. He hadnt
a clue of how loyal I am. So that brought us closer. I said to him that
it would be a blessing to have him in the studio while I was working
on my new album, to just push me. This is what I meant by bringing him
on as the ambassador for the next album. I wanted to have someone on
my side with a true respect for Hip-Hop. Kiss is someone that people
wouldnt normally pair me with. But we all know that Kiss is dope.
He is one of the illest emcees of our time. I wanted someone in the
studio like that to push me. If I wrote something that was wack, I needed
someone to tell me that its wack. I need that type of coaching around
me, and why not from a Top 5 emcee of all time, without any doubt. I
cant wait.
AllHipHop.com: You have a very busy
schedule ahead of you, so I dont want to take up too much of your
time. What would you like to end this conversation on?
Bow Wow: Definitely go and check out
Lottery Ticket, support it. We have a great cast. People will
love what weve done with this. I got a brand new mixtape on the way.
I got a brand new album on the way, the beginning of next year. Jadakiss
will be on the album, my Cash Money family will be on the album. I will
be in NBA 2K11 with Michael Jordan on the cover. I have a playable character
in the game (Bow Wow). Its amazing being a part of one of the largest
NBA video game franchises, and to be in it is a blessing. I got a lot
of big things going on right now. And I just want to continue to have
fun and remain humbled. Im working extra hard right now to be the
best I could be.
Wyclef Jean’s name has not been included on a list of approved presidential candidates for his native Haiti.
The entertainer-turned-politician sought to run for presidency and announced with much international fanfare. Jean needed to prove that he was a resident of Haiti, one of the requirements for the high office of the embattled land.
A list was released today and it included dozens of candidates, but not Jean says news service Reuters.
Earlier this week, the mega star had revealed that he was receiving death threats from those that opposed his looming campaign. Earlier Thursday, he met with the current president of Haiti and told the Associated Press the meeting was positive.

While his mentor and label mate Lil Wayne serves his time on Rikers Island until what many believe is this coming November, Lil Twist is steady at work on his debut album Dont Get it Twisted. Already garnering the support of his other label mates Nicki Minaj, Drake and Tyga on featured tracks, the youngest in the Young Money camp is learning a lot about the game and growing up fast. But the features dont stop with the Young Money emcees, Twist has also developed a strong relationship with his fellow young breakthrough artist Justin Beiber. The two spend lots of time together doing the things that kids their age do; playing basketball, swimming, chasing girls and just enjoying life. But the life of a young and up and coming rap star isnt easy, as according to Twist its a lot of work. Take a look at this sit down with the next in line of the Young Money camp and see whats going on inside the head of a 17-year-old emcee on the verge of his debut album and living amidst the craze for anything Young Money. AllHipHop: So, whats been up with it Twist? Lil Twist: Just working. Working on the album. Still working on some solo songs of myself, because I have a lot of collaborations on this album. So I been really focusing on banging out songs just by myself. AllHipHop: Right. So, who are some of the collaborations with? Lil Twist: You know, the whole Young Money Camp, Including Wayne, Drake, and Nicki [Minaj]. Justin Beiber, Sean Kingston. I got a reggae feel with Sean Paul. Its a few more man. I really cant even think of all of em off the head. AllHipHop: I understand. Thats crazy and a good look. Now, how old are you now? Because I know you got started early in the game. Lil Twist: Im 17 years old. I make 18 in January. AllHipHop: Wow. We thought that you were younger than that. Honestly, I thought you were 16 or something. But, none the less, Howd you end up linking with Young Money and how did all of that come together? Lil Twist: Well, Lil Wayne actually had a show that was about an hour away from Dallas. I drove down to the show. And I already knew my management that I have now, Cortez Bryant, and I ran up to him, and I was like, Yo, man. You have to let me get on the show. And so, he was like, Okay, lets see. Put the little dude on stage So, I got on stage, and I ripped it! So, after that, Cortez started calling and talking to Wayne, Wayne got back to me, and I been down every since. AllHipHop: Thats crazy, man. So, obviously, everybody in the Young Money camp is real close knit; sort of like a family. Can you tell me what its like being with Young Money, and being surrounded and able to work with such talent. Lil Twist: Man, Its a lot of fun. But, at the same time, its a lot of work too. All of us are different, so we bring our own thing to the table, you know what I mean? But, yeah, its a lot of fun, and basically its just a family. Thats all it is. AllHipHop: So, you had mentioned that you have got some work wit Justin [Beiber]. And, he is a good friend of yours, right? Lil Twist: Yeah, Justin is one of my best friends. We like brothers, for real. AllHipHop: So, when you guys have free time, what do yall do together? Lil Twist: We just chill. Kick it with each other when we both dont have anything to do. Like, this past weekend, we didnt have anything scheduled to do, so we all just caught a flight to Atlanta, and was just chillin in Atlanta. You know, and being able to be young and be able to kick it with out all the work we have to do. Take a day or two just to play basketball, or go chill with girls, you know. AllHipHop: [Jokingly] I know thats treating you right, them girls Lil Twist: Yeah. Them ladies man . AllHipHop: So, have you had any contact with Wayne or saw him since hes been locked up or anything? Lil Twist: I talk to him every chance that we get. Every chance that I get. You know, my phone line is always open for him to call. He calls a lot, and sometimes its just for the blog and stuff. And other times, he calls just to talk about the whole process, and what hes thinking about, and what hes going through. But overall, a lot of times its just to call and check on me. AllHipHop: Thats a bet, man. Okay, if you could say a couple things that you have learned from being in the Young Money Camp, either from Wayne, or Drake, or Nicki, as far as lyricism, and spitting, what would you say are some of the things that youd say that you picked up on being around some of the other emcees? Lil Twist: Just music as a whole. You know, all of them are very musically creative. And thats all they care about when it comes to music. Being the most creative and innovative artist that they can be. So that they can make sure their music sounds great. Me being the next one off the label, they want to make sure that Im the same way. So, they will be in the studio with me a lot. Just making sure that my album is quality. So they do give me feedback and I have the opportunity to ask them questions. AllHipHop: So, how much feedback have you been getting so far? Lil Twist: They Love it! I feel that my album is going to be great. AllHipHop: Now, talk to me about some of the production that youve been kind of using for this project. Who are some of the producers you feel are going to make the album? Lil Twist: I havent been using any major producers like that. Because I honestly dont feel that I need to. Because there are times where you may reach out to a major producer, and I feel that they dont put they all into the beats. But, it can be a young and hungry guy, thats tryna make it in the game, and he goes so hard in the studio, and puts everything that he got into a beat. And those are the type of producers that I work with. Because I know hes trying to come up, and I can help him. They help me, and I help them. Thats how I look at it. Also, I hate going for the big names, because they like negotiating a dumb high price. AllHipHop: Thats true. And thats where the business sense comes in. And when you have big names like Drake, and Wayne, and even Nicki to do features, you really dont any names that are bigger than that. So, going forward, who are some of the artist that you would like to work with? Whether it be producer or artist. Lil Twist: I would love to work with Andre 3000 of OutKast. Thats my favorite rapper in the whole entire world! So, if I got a chance to link with Andre, I would definitely be on a whole different level! AllHipHop: Whats it like working for them at Cash Money Records? They brought up Wayne at a young age. Are they doing the same thing with you? Lil Twist: Its the same process. Because Drake and Nicki are the first two artist off the label, and Me and Tyga are the next two. Its the same process with everybody. The goal is to make all of us as strong and as great artistically as we can be. AllHipHop: Has there ever been a time when you guys have a freestyle session? Lil Twist: Sometimes on the tour bus, just joking around. We may throw on a beat, because I make beats too, and we just go! But we dont just do it out the blue all the time. AllHipHop: So, Imma say a word or name and you tell me the first thing that comes to mind. Lil Twist: Cool, lets do it. AllHipHop: Dallas, TX. Lil Twist: Great City. Home. AllHipHop: Tyga. Lil Twist: Beast. AllHipHop: Baby. Lil Twist: Game Spitter. AllHipHop: Wayne.. Lil Twist: The Best. AllHipHop: Drake Lil Twist:: The Best. The Next. AllHipHop: Last Question . What is Lil Twist listening in the iPod right now that is getting heavy rotation? Who would the readers be surprised to know you are listening to? Lil Twist: Dont Get it Twisted, which is the name of my album, which doesnt have a release date as of yet. Thats what I am listening to right now. I am also listening to I Am Not A Human Being, which will be Lil Waynes pre-album, that will be releasing on the internet.

Hate is the new love.
Recently, the hate levels have risen faster than a wave in a Tsunami.
Why do the fans hate their own artists so badly? I don’t have all the answers, but I sure have a lot of observations. This strand of hate isn’t new, but it sure is pervasive as an epic epidemic. The hate in Hip-Hop began as external forces sought to extinguish rap. Then, as Hip-Hop music grew, there was an attempt to police itself. Acts like Too Short, The Luniz and later B.I.G. would call this “player hating,” because the haters were attempting to stop people from getting paid. These days, thanks to the internet, there’s a unique hate being spewed and I dont mean I just dont like that persons music. I mean hate.
So, bear with me as I talk about Drake, a case study in this editorial. Just try to read this, because there is a message afterward that you may find more engaging. Fight through the hate.
I’ve seen the venomous loathing of Drake. Some people have valid remarks, but more often that not, the critiques are tarnished with unproductive comments. When he gave me his Top 5 Dead or Alive (Click here for that) and started to mention actor Leonardo DiCaprio, I tried to warn him about the backlash that would result. (He knew too.) I’ve never been particularly fond of dude’s singing and clearly that material is for the ladies. Anybody with iTunes can adjust to that. As I hear it, when he flows, most current commercial rappers can’t see him. I mean, come on. Listen to the radio and you will know exactly what I mean. Joints like “9 Am Freestyle” are proof that he’s listening to the fans and proof that he can cater to whoever he wants, especially in a free environment like the internet. So Far Gone and Comeback Season – which were released before the wave of hate – are pretty much proof of his appeal to a broad spectrum.
As we continue, let us discuss Jay-Z, “real” Hip-Hop head. If you hate him, again..try to fight through it. There is a greater point at the end of this editorial that speaks to you.
There are the OG’s like Jay-Z, surviving the rigors of Hip-Hop for decades and they are not exempt from the hate. It seems like every other song Jay does is fending off haters (“Haters” with Kanye is the first song that comes to mind.). But it doesn’t stop with these pop phenoms, it goes down well into the underground. Murs is one of the dopest artists in the underground and yet after reading comments on him, you would think he was Jay-Z. Hate.
Day in and day out, fans proclaim to hate everybody in some form or another. Obviously, not everybody but the loudest voices are those of the verbose hater. They hate B.o.B. and Drake for changing up. They hate on Jay-Z for not willingly giving up the crown. They hate Murs for not being more mainstream. They hate Soulja Boy for being wack lyrically. Nicki Minaj is too expressive and cartoonish. Rick Ross makes great music, but he was a C.O. I mean, the lists and the reasons go on and on and on endlessly.
But, here is a question: who do you love? I ask again…who do you love? WHO DO YOU LOVE?
Keep the answer to yourself for now.
Here is why hate is the new love.
Everybody you hate, you actually support his or her ascension. Everybody you say you love, they stay down with us close to home. They dont sell as many records as the subjects of hate. Everybody was raving over Slaughterhouse last year and then they sold a paltry18,000 units their first week. Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Drake, Lil Wayne are bigger than ever. Meanwhile, Big Boi, who has unquestionably one of the best albums of the year, sells under 65,000. Hes also one of our Hip-Hop heroes – an artistic, lyrical genius and one half of Outkast. Do you hate or love him?
Since coming in the game as a fan, my people have supported The Roots, Redman, Master P. Public Enemy, Jay-Z, Snoop, Dr. Dre, Mobb Deep the list is literally endless. I mean ENDLESS. Wed buy a TAPE til it popped. Then buy a CD til it scratched. Then buy another CD. Now, I buy at least two copies of my favorite rappers, clean and regular versions (LOL). But, when you talk about supporting, I am a fan of HIP-HOP so I can shout out Jean Grae (Dopes Femcee Ever!), my homey Murs, B. Rossi (one of our new Breeding Ground artists), Bun B (Classic!), Joe Budden (waiting for MM4), Talib (Dont Sweat Bloggers!), Mitchy Slick (Triggeration Station), TiRon (MSTRD is crazy), Ras Kass (A.D.I.D.A.S. is a comeback indeed), Black Milk (Interview is coming) the list remains endless.
So, again I ask. Who do you love? One of Lil Bs fans beat him up a few weeks ago. Then in the strangest move ever, he went back and apologized in a viral video, all the while expressing his love of dude. Really? So, is this the way you show adoration for somebody in Hip-Hop these days? Beat them up or dis them nonstop? Now, Lil B is an even bigger star than before the beatdown. Strange.
If you look at the average hater, you notice they inadvertently support the ones they hate. They clearly listen to every song, they comment on every article and I would go so far as to say they probably buy/listen to the music in secrecy. They follow the online crowd even though their identities are generally shrouded in mystery. And when its all said and done, the artists you claim to love stay suffering. They don’t even get comments.
I love to champion the artists that are able to play the numbers game. This is a business and somebody has to go out there and sell units to convince these shirts that Hip-Hop is the viable, vibrant art form we know it is. We know these artists are dope even if they flop. So, I also champion the artists that arent able to play the numbers game the way Drake and Jay-Z do.
Have you ever seen an unknown rapper talk endlessly about their haters?
They not only talk about them, they make songs about haters they dont really have. Why is this?
It is simple. Hate is the new love and these people want all the hate they can muster, because it is a sign of your success in this era. These people don’t even have haters, but long for them like Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. longed for unity among the races. Somewhere, Willie Lynch is laughing hysterically.
This hate is killing our Hip-Hop community. In the 90s, everybody hated MC Hammer. In 2010, Rick Ross is MC Hammer (by his own admission). But, they didnt stop MC Hammer in the 90s. He overcame that and remains as active as ever. So, now everybody hates Rick Ross in 2010 how does that set him up?
Dont answer that.
Just answer this:
