Twista: Second Chances

With the curiosity surrounding Pinky-Gate, Twista has penetrated Hip-Hop’s interest and is whetting its appetite with the Traxter-produced, “Wetter.” Category F5, a verbal tempest will be fully unleashed this July. Twista is learning to harmonize the tasks of being the CEO of his imprint, Get Money Gang Ent., along with being its flagship artist. “It’s hard. I love doing it and I knew what was to expect out of it. There’s so much to do and so much competition out here…you really have to go hard and be organized and professional,” admits the undaunted lyricist.

Twista openly voices his goals saying “longevity is a thing that I want to obtain. When people ask me what’s the legacy I want to leave, that’s the one word that I would use, longevity. I look at my career, I dropped an album in ’90 or ’91, and I’m still right here with a jam.” Dedicating almost twenty years to his craft, Twista is constantly striving to improve his sound. He isn’t adverse to implementing new, respected styles that keeps his sound fresh.

Category F5 is the album and Second Chances is the mixtape that will continue to deliver the raw to the masses. In an unbridled interview with AllHipHop.com, Twista exposes everything from his ability to massacre anyone on the mic, to which artist he’d like to work with in the future.

AllHipHop.com: “Wetter” is another Twista hit. How long did it take you to complete the track from its conception to having the master on wax?

Twista: We decided that we would go back and use a lot the original sounds that we used in Adrenaline Rush to create new beats—new ideas and everything. Off of the conversation, he [Traxter] had already had a track put together, with the whole vibe going… Instead of me just banging it out in the studio, I did one of my traditional things I do, which is go back to the hotel room, [and] throughout the day I started to write the track. [I] came back the next day. That’s what I did I just took it with me. I vibed on the song real good and wrote the whole song then came back the next day and laid it. Even then, we still didn’t look at it like a big jam…We knew it was a song with that original sound, but we didn’t know that we didn’t had one like we had, until it started doing what it was doing…

AllHipHop.com: When is Category F5 being released?

Twista: On July 14th. Category F5 is a dope definition that I picked up from the encyclopedia. That’s the reason why I titled the album Category F5. The F Scale [Fujita Scale] is a scale that’s used to describe different levels of tornadoes or twisters. The range goes up to category F6, which is unconceivable. Category F5 actually has a description, it describes cars being thrown through the air as missles, at 100 MPH; it describes bark being ripped from trees; it describes houses being ripped from foundations. It’s like a real fierce, dope description of how things get tore up. At the ends it says it like an incredible phenomenon…

AllHipHop.com: Do you feel capable of ripping up the industry?

Twista: Not ripping up the industry, just killing them on the album, killing them with these lyrics and these songs like how I be doing. [I’m] able to come with hits, jams, stuff for the streets—and doing what Twista do. If you would consider that ripping up the industry then that’s what it is. I’m not really with continuing the trend of rating myself with numbers and first weeks and stuff like everybody else does; I survive no matter what my first week is. I’m still here eating off rap. I don’t be focusing on that. I focus on it on the business end; but, on the artistic end I don’t focus on it.

AllHipHop.com: Adrenaline Rush 2 didn’t meet the commercial success of some of your previous albums. Was that one of the reasons you left Atlantic Records?

Twista: I would say the industry started to take a slight change… It was hitting everybody on different levels. [The] record labels [had to think] how can we make money if people can get this music other ways, digitally and other ways now? They had to transform from just regular record labels into these multimedia companies to be able to do what they do and make money. I didn’t fit in the scheme of a new artist. A 360 deal really didn’t fit an artist who already had a fanbase or whose been grinding and has released records. A artist like me or Fat Joe, or somebody like that, it would be more easier for us to make money and to benefit [with] us doing our thing on the independent level.

With me it was a business move more so than a personal move. It wasn’t me thinking my record didn’t blow up. I knew part of the reason my record didn’t blow up was due to financial decisions that had to be made by the company. As long as we were all on good terms, and they felt that as long as I gave them what they needed, then they could let me go. I went that route. I already went the negative route and lost three or four years out of my career before. I didn’t want to take that route…

AllHipHop.com: Are you the premiere lyricist from the Chi?

Twista: I used to be, but at a certain point I started hearing these little n****s and I realized, okay—the real snappy punchlines and coming with it like the young ones like it. I feel like I might have lost a step on that level. But as far as what I’ve learned through experience, and how to put a song together, and how to work in the studio and have a good ear; I think I’m better on that level.

Lyrically and being able to put together patterns and styles, I’ve got you to death. I definitely can make a song with a ill pattern or crazy style to it. But, as far as them punchlines, and how these shorties bring it; they got me feeling like they go harsh. It’s hard for me to say that just know that my man Skooda Chose is in here. Some of the lyrics that I’ve heard from him [have me thinking] I could do that s*** when I was young. But, I can’t do it no more, not like that.

AllHipHop.com: [laughs] Is there a difference between being an MC and being an entertainer?

Twista: Definitely. I would say [pauses] Rakim or Kool G Rap would be my description of an MC. Slick Rick or Doug E. Fresh or some type of flair personality would be more of an entertainer; when you got both of them it’s the best. But, it’s definitely a difference. Some people who entertain might not have great lyrics, they just might have the look and the swagger, [and with an] MC they don’t really have that flair or that desire to be out there. When you get them in the booth or in a battle or on the street they can kill somebody [lyrically].

AllHipHop.com: Overall, within Hip-Hop, has your public and has your peers recognized your contribution to the game?

Twista: To a certain extent. It’s unfortunate to say that sometimes when you’re not around, or when something bad happens, that’s when everybody looks up. They don’t recognize you for the good. Right now I would consider myself as an underrated MC. You know, you got some MC’s that get all the accolades and all the props. When it comes to the one’s who consider themselves a judges of, or one of the people who describes who is Hip-Hop or what really counts, I feel like those people who make those assumptions don’t really recognize me the way they should.

But when I walk down the street every person that I see that recognizes Twista, I feel like they will recognize it, I’m happy with that. They’ll see my face and start thinking, ‘Damn, man, you did this and you did this, man. You really pioneered that style.’ They recognize that when they see me. With every fan I walk up to it’s love. But all of the writers and some of the people, who are so called the-sources-to-see of what Hip-Hop is or what real rap is, I feel [that] they don’t.

AllHipHop.com: If you didn’t get paid for doing Hip-Hop would you still do it?

Twista: [pauses] If I didn’t get paid? Yeah, that’s the reason why I still do it because I love it. That’s the beautiful part about it. I love going in the studio and making songs. I love going on stage and performing for the people. All of the positives about being a rapper; I love it. The thing I love the most is making songs in the studio. The act of making a song, writing lyrics, coming with a style, that’s the thing that turns me on the most. So, hell yeah!

AllHipHop.com: On June 27th Rock The Bells will be in Chicago, will fans be in for a surprise performance; will you be a hometown addition?

Twista: If it happens to where I can come out for a surprise performance it’s definitely going to happen. But, just to let you know how much I am a fan of Hip-Hop, me and Trax and Toxic, my guys that produce, we already plotting about how we’re going to post up backstage.

AllHipHop.com: [laughs]

Twista: To me, this is the honest to God’s truth, this the first time where, being Twista on some clout s*** really matter to me. I’m like I’m Twista. So, I’m going to take my ass up in there under the Twista act and be like, okay, woo woo woo, and post up. But, really, inside I’m going to be like the biggest Rap fan ever; and be real happy to meet all them.

AllHipHop.com: If the situation presented itself who would you invite on your All-Star tour?

Twista: I love the Drake music right now. So, I would invite Drake on my tour so I could stand on the side of the stage and listen to his show. Maybe Andre 3000—I would even invite Cee-Lo. I would want to invite Cee-Lo under the Gnarles Barkley act. The tour wouldn’t match up good but that’s what I would be on.

AllHipHop.com: In the spirit of competition, which three MCs would you like to battle?

Twista: To be honest, I’m so past the battle days, I would be more willing to do a song with them. But just for the fun of the battle, you want to see Twista and Tech N9ne rapping fast against each other, you want to see just all of the fast rappers, really. So, I would say me against, Busta, Tech N9ne, and Ludacris, and have it on the fast lyrical tip.

Just so you know, them all my homies, I don’t want to battle none of them n***** because, whoah. [laughs]

AllHipHop.com: [laughs] Let me find out Twista’s scared.

Twista: Ah, nah it’s never that, now you trying to kick of that other—

AllHipHop.com: Let’s keep it nice; we’re not trying to start any mess. [laughs] For nearly two decades you’ve been connected to the mic. Are there any artists that you haven’t worked with that you’d like to get on a track? I think a Twista / Big Daddy Kane track would be crazy!

Twista: You snapped with Big Daddy Kane; he’s one of my top five MCs. That’s a good one. Somebody that I would just like to work with is Eminem I would definitely love to do a track with Eminem.

AllHipHop.com: To your audience, you have the last word, what would you like to say?

Twista: I would like to say, to my audience, thanks for helping me to continue my journey of longevity. [We’re] showing them how you can be a James Brown in this game, and break the whole mold of people thinking that an R&B artist or another category of artist can outlast a Hip-Hop artist. I’m trying to break that whole vibe. I feel like as long as you [are] a generally good man and a good person, if you continue to make good music, then you can do that.

I gotta say thanks to the fans for helping me to continue that journey. I gotta tell them Category F5 is the s***. I got new things on there with people like Akon and Static Major. I got classic things on there from Do Or Die and Buk from Psychodrama. I got something on there for the ladies [and] I got thug stuff for the fellas. It’s dropping July 14th, live with it. I got a couple of mixtapes coming that probably go harder than the album.

Friday Fashion Feature: Meet Miguel Perdomo, the new face of Sean John

Known as “the first Dominican Male Supermodel”, Miguel Perdomo sort of “fell into” modeling about five years ago.

Miguel Perdomo

After repeatedly being stopped and asked whether he was a model, he decided to try his hand at it.

Chris Collins, a Ralph Lauren model and friend of Miguel’s, helped the aspiring model get his foot in the door by walking the runway at a Phat Farm show.

The rest is history. Since then, the Paterson, NJ native has had constant work for brands like COOGI, Calvin Klein, AZZURE and more.

Azzure got Miguel’s face on nationwide billboards and publications, which lead to his increased popularity.

Eventually, Sean John expressed interest in the aspiring model. Diddy met with Miguel himself and signed him on.

He has since been referred to as the “face of Sean John”, being one of the brand’s top models. He was in their ad campaigns for the past two years, and is currently working on the 2009 fall campaign.

Miguel also spends time participating in various charitable organizations, such as lending a hand to youth at his local YMCA, and contributing to the “Dominican Tornado Relief”.

Find out more about Miguel Perdomo below, such as his style turn-ons and turn-offs, as well as tips for our male readers on how to dress!

AllHipHop.com: What career could you see yourself in if it wasn’t modeling?

Miguel: I would be a graphic designer. As we speak, that’s what I’m working towards, so when I’m done modeling, I will be very much involved in graphic design. I’m also currently working on my own t-shirt line.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve mentioned that you’re grateful for being one of the key faces of Sean John since you’re a fan of the line. What other brands are you into?

Miguel: I’m into a lot of brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Public School, KAWS, Billionaire Boys Club, Ice Cream and my new favorite Play Cloth. I like underground brands much more than mainstream ones. I appreciate the passion that goes behind them, as opposed to a shirt that just says “GUCCI!”. I’m a graphic head, so I need some creativeness to my clothes!

Play Cloth Spring 2009

Miguel: Well, I have a lot of different looks that I rock. I can be corporate, casual, collegiate…but my overall favorite has to be Pharrell. He dresses like he doesn’t try hard. He’s random with his style, I love that! I also like Fonzworth Bentley‘s style. Will.i.am – I love his style as well as Andre 3000‘s because they’re not scared to be all over the board. A lot of dudes can’t pull that off! My favorite designer and the person I look up to is Tom Ford. Just clean, sleek, and clever; my favorite style. Like James Bond.

AllHipHop.com: What are your top three wardrobe essentials for summer 2009?

Miguel: My top accessories are definitely my Dolce & Gabbana or DITAS shades, G-Shock watch and bucket fedora hat.

G-Shock G-Force Glide Military Watch by Casio

AllHipHop.com: Can you give our male readers a few of your personal style tips?

Miguel: My personal tip on how to dress is to basically be yourself and be comfortable with your style. You have to feel your outfit. There’s a lot of men who are insecure with their personal style. If you don’t feel right in it then its not for you. I’m my own personal stylist, so before I leave my house I have to feel very secure about what I’m wearing. Fashion is your personal expression, that’s how I see it. Tom Ford actually said it the best – Always dress like you came from somewhere important!

AllHipHop.com: With you having many female fans, we would like to know what your biggest turnoff is in terms of a woman’s personal style?

Miguel: If a woman can’t dress in 2009 I don’t know what to tell her! She has to know all the essentials. I love a woman who doesn’t wear a lot of make-up. She has to be classy and have that sexiness about her without being raunchy. I hate when women smoke too, that’s a big turn off. I see smokers and just imagine what their lungs look like! I’m very much single and just waiting for “her” to arrive! So let’s just say I may be single for a long time!

Wednesday Fashion Feature: Get To Know: Dres of Black Sheep

Born in New York City, Dres was raised in North Carolina where he met fellow NYC native Mista Lawnge. The two became the 90s hip-hop group, Black Sheep.

The duo was part of NYC’s Native Tongues hip-hop movement, which also included De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.Black Sheep’s 1991 debut album A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing went gold, with classic hits like “The Choice is Yours” and “Strobelite Honey”.

Dres

Dres and Mista Lawnge were quickly recognized for being intelligent and creative lyricists, expected to embark on a long and successful career.

Black Sheep

After lack of promotion and resulting poor sales of their follow-up album, Non-Fiction, the duo split up to took on solo projects.

Although they did re-unite on a couple of projects including the 2006 album 8WM/Novakane, Mista Lawnge eventually left to pursue a solo career. It has been noted that his contribution to 8WM/Novakane was limited.

Dres has since started his own record label, BumRush Records, and continues his solo music career.

AllHipHop.com got a chance to speak with Dres and get an 80s/90s “hip-hop style 101” as he reminisced about fashion in Black Sheep’s heyday. He also discusses his upcoming album The Black Pool of Genius and more.

Check it out:

AllHipHop.com: You came up in the 80’s and 90’s. What were you rocking back then in terms of brands and trends and how has your style adapted since?

Dres: In the 80’s I rocked Wallabees, silk shirts, mock neck shirts, Adidas and gold chains. We were extra with the hair. It was definitely the quintessential project kid, young hustler look. We wore stuff that differentiated us from the average cats.

Waxy Leather Wallabees by Clarks

In terms of my style now, it’s pretty close to what it was like back in the 90’s. I was never “Afrocentric”, rocking dashikis, etc. I became more of a Polo kid – clean cut and almost preppy. You would have [A Tribe Called] Quest or De La Soul in dashikis, African garb – safari clothes. You might have seen me in a Missoni sweater and Timberlands.

A dashiki

I still wear clothes that are over 10 years old. I got my stuff cheap, we used to hustle. We did everything we could do to make people think that we didn’t hustle whereas these days, kids do the opposite, like wear a shirt that says “I SELL CRACK” with pants that are way too big. They try to make a statement that isn’t even true in most cases.

When we were coming up, we wanted to be well versed, walk into any room and be able to garnish a certain level of respect from whoever is in there. I know grown men who don’t even own a pair of slacks. We always had a realization of Manhattan. It was always the place, the breeding ground for where we wanted to be – successful. We wanted to play on Park Ave and Fifth Ave as well as the projects.

AllHipHop.com: What do you think about current trends kids are wearing? Like skinny jeans and heavily embellished clothing?

Dres: Definitely not a fan. I kind of understand youngsters trying to find their identity. They are so far away from recognizing opportunities, they just walk right by them. I definitely see the evolution of urban designers though. I mean I never owned FUBU or Cross Colors. Nothing wrong with them, but I just never got into it. Those clothes look buffoon-ish to me. Like I remember Karl Kani bringing me clothes that stopped at my knees when I was on Arsenio Hall. That type of stuff was never part of my pallet.

It probably didn’t come across well that I didn’t support many urban brands, but now they’ve evolved into something I might actually look at. Like stuff without logos plastered all over it – that’s more up my alley, I might just take a second look. If I like it, I wouldn’t be afraid to wear it at this point.

“Have the balls to just be yourself. One of the hardest and easiest things to do in live is to just be yourself” – Dres

I didn’t see my father in anything but a suit and he was a heroine dealer. He would be taking off his suit jacket and playing basketball in the middle of the day. I came from chic and stylish projects. Girls in my projects boosted [stole] us clothes. Guess Jeans at $200 a pair, stuff from Nordstrom and Saks. They would take our sizes, go shopping and sell us whatever they got for like a third of the cost. They actually would pick out stuff based on what we would look good in. These girls had a good eye for fashion.

When I got into music, I had a good sense of style and what looks good on me. Not only in the hip-hop world, but also outside. Kanye looks at me and tells me I need to be dressing him. At first I wasn’t sure if he was messing with me.

I was always comfortable in my own skin. I never owned a pair of Jordans. What kids do for Jordans now reminds me of what kids used to do for minks and sheepskin back in the day. It makes me think why our kids are fighting each other to achieve a status that is so impossible to maintain? I mean they’re not lowering prices, they’re raising them. In these times, it seems everybody has stepped their style game up. Sean John is not only competitive with other urban brands, but also with Ralph Lauren. That’s very cool. It took a minute for urban brands to get there.

In our “Flavor of the Month” video, I wore a Hugo Boss suit. But I don’t rap about what I’m wearing, or my car. What I’m wearing should just be a given; those aren’t things you should be rapping about. When I was very young, hip-hop didn’t exist. I learned from my parent’s music. Music always took me where I wasn’t. The music that was always relevant to me showed me what I couldn’t just look out my window and see. It had a lot more to do with a “mindscape”, somewhere that I needed to be and would fight to get to.

AllHipHop.com You’ve successfully been touring all over the world. After the warm reception your brand of hip-hop gets in other countries, have you ever considered packing up and moving away permanently?

Dres: Yes I have, and I haven’t totally ruled it out. I just got a lot of hope in me, I try to be an optimist. I think its important that I stick around. I left NYC for awhile and felt it was important for me to come back. After all that east/west coast thing, I was like “is this really happening?” But right now, I have my own label, I have some things on the table. I don’t look for other people to do things that I should be able to do for myself. I pick myself up and do it again. Whether it’s bigger or smaller, it’s at least authentic and high quality.

AllHipHop.com When are you releasing The Black Pool Of Genius and what can we expect with this new album?

Dres: It releases November 11th 2009 on my label, BumRush Records. The album is ridiculous. Produced by Ski from Roc-A-Blok with many guest appearances. I’m supposed to be getting a track from Pete Rock, De La Soul, and more.video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsfree video player

Jay-Z Brings Roc Nation To Sony

Superstar rapper/mogul Jay-Z has officially signed a new distribution deal with Sony for his new label Roc Nation.

According to Billboard, the rapper’s new solo album The Blueprint 3 will be distributed by Atlantic, although that deal is only for the third installment of the rapper’s Blueprint series of releases.

Jay-Z offered to have the Roc Nation imprint be distributed through his longtime home Def Jam over four years ago.

Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJ) also distributes Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella imprint, which has such superstar artists as Kanye West, Jadakiss, Beanie Sigel and others.

“You have to figure, this is like four years ago, and to them it was just like, ‘Are you crazy? No! Make a song,’ ” said the mogul, who bought his way out of his Def Jam contract for an estimated $5 million.

The rapper also revealed that executives at IDJ were not fully capitalizing on Jay-Z’s entrepreneurial abilities.

“To me it was like, I’ve sold companies for huge amounts of money. I’m an entrepreneur – that’s what I’ve been all my life,” Jay-Z told Billboard. “I can’t just sit here and make records and not do anything else. Why wouldn’t you want to do this with me? I felt under-utilized.”

On the management side, Roc Nation handles the careers of Wale, Melanie Fiona, Mickey Factz and others.

Cassie: Hi Haters

Cassandra Ventura, better known as Cassie, burst onto the

music scene in 2006 with her infectious hit, “Me & U”. Though the former

model had a huge first single, after some less than stellar live performances,

many were quick to doubt the talents and the staying power of Bad Boy’s

resident bad girl. However many had to admit there was something special about

Bad Boy’s new princess. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years it would

seem that Cassie has made more headlines for her personal life than for her

music.

The gossip blogs have been ablaze with rumors of a supposed

secret relationship between her and label head P.Diddy Combs. Most recently on

the heels of promotion for her upcoming album Electro Love, naked pictures of the singer surfaced on the internet.

As the release of her sophomore album creeps closer and closer, one question

has yet to be answered: Can her music entertain us as much as her

personal life?

AllHipHop.com Alternatives: It’s been a little while since your debut. If you could, just talk

about how you have evolved and changed in the past couple of years.

Cassie: It has been

quite a long time, but since the end of the last album cycle I went overseas

and performed and did promo out there. Then started re-recording, and then I

shot a film [Step Up 2: The Streets]. And these little things,

they build you up and build your character. I went through a lot of different

stuff. I went back after the film and continued recording. The sound is fully

developed, I’m excited about it. The album is called Electro Love.

AHHA: If you could

just kind of touch on the title. The mind definitely goes certain places when

you mention the title.

Cassie: The last

album, it was self-titled. It was a fast release because I had the single out

and I just had to put an album out almost immediately. It was like I had no

choice, kind of. And it wasn’t that it was bad. It was a great album, but I

wanted people to be able to see who I was and the kind of music I like and what

I really like to listen to. Electro Love is not really supposed

to be taken literally. DJ Cassidy gave me the idea, and I just thought it fit

the sound of the album perfectly with where it was going. It’s not electro

music/house like hardcore but there is a good beat to dance to. And the lyrical

content is dope. It’s all different. So I have a record with Pharrell that he

wrote on. Tricky and Dream, Akon, like it’s just a good mix.

AHHA: Do you think

anything on this album will surprise people? Or do you think the album in

general will surprise people?

Cassie: I think the

album in general will surprise people. It’s hard because of records getting

leaked and stuff like that. I try to refrain from talking about that to people.

Like if I see a record out, what I immediately want to do is be like “Oh My God

that’s my record it got leaked blah blah” but it takes away from what people

will know on the album. So hopefully they will forget that it got leaked and

came out. But I’ve remixed and revamped everything that I’ve done. I have a

cool record actually with Jadakiss called “Make You a Believer” and it’s just…it’s

hard to explain. I’m having such a hard time trying to describe my album to

people. But I think they will be surprised.

AHHA: Talk about the

single and how that came about.

Cassie: The single

is “Must Be Love”. It was a record that was kind of already in Bad Boy. Day 26

had recorded it. They didn’t keep it for their album. So it was just there, and

I was like I love this record. This record is amazing, can I please try it?

I’ve never like really had a soulful R&B record, something that just gave a

good Bad Boy vibe. I’ve never had a record like that. I had “Me And U”, “Long

Way 2 Go”, “Official Girl”- they were all different. So I tried it and it

worked. Puff got on it, which is really an honor to have him on the record or

want to be on the record. And that’s what we stuck with. It’s a great R&B

record.

AHHA: Within the

last years since your initial release there has been a lot that has happened in

general in the music business. Has that made you change as an artist in any

way?

Cassie: The industry

itself has changed so much since I first started. That in itself is serious.

Everybody always asks me are you nervous to put out a release because people

aren’t really selling albums anymore. But I feel like I have a good fanbase and

I feel like I’ve evolved as an artist, and if I can get the opportunity to let

people see that and what I’m all about they’ll get it.

AHHA: How have you

changed as a person? How has the “celebrity” changed you?

Cassie: I never have

really tapped into that side of it. I’m not running to the store calling the

paparazzi to come follow me. I don’t do any of those types of things. The

celebrity part of it has never really been apart of my life. I might get talked

about and things happen but I’m always the one at home watching movies with my

friends. I’m not going to the club and trying to act a fool or anything. But I

don’t feel like I’m a celebrity or I’ve changed. I feel like I’ve acted the

same way my entire life.

AHHA: We live in a

celebrity-obsessed culture. We want to know everything that goes on in a

person’s life who is on television or who is on the radio or whatever. And

there was a situation that occurred recently where there were some personal

photos of you that leaked on the internet. What was you reaction to how that whole

situation went down?

Cassie: Um. I was in

shock because they weren’t meant for anyone to see, Number 1. It hurt for the

few days that it happened and the few days I had to deal with it and then I

just moved on because there was no other way to handle it. People assumed

whatever they wanted about how the pictures came out and what exactly happened.

But how I explain it to people is, I have a mother and a father and brother and

little cousins that are high school and middle school and it was just really

rough. It wasn’t a good situation at all. But I just handled it. It was for my

man.

AHHA: We live in a

culture where everything gets leaked. Everything comes out when it isn’t

supposed to. Photos get leaked, videos get leaked. When you were taking photos like

that did you ever think this would happen?

Cassie: I can say

that I definitely did. But with the situation I was in, I was as safe as I

could be with it. I didn’t know that someone was up in my email like that. I

don’t even know what the case is. It’s being investigated. So I don’t know

exactly what happened. I no longer had the pictures. And my boyfriend no longer

had the pictures and it wasn’t something that was really thought about. And I

don’t think he would sell me out like that. It definitely makes you rethink

things. I’m not saying that I’m never going to take pictures for my boyfriend

ever again because that’s how our relationship is. But I’m not going to email

them. [laughs] Because clearly that was really stupid.

AHHA: That brings me

to my next question. Recently, there has been a lot of speculation about your

relationship with the head of your label. I wanted to give you a chance to

address that in any manner you see fit.

Cassie: Puff is my

friend. We are not dating, and that is it. There just so many other things

and ways to say it to try to get through to people but everyone is going to

believe what they want to believe. That’s what it is for me. We are not

together. We never have been together. He’s my friend. I hang out with him.

AHHA: Let’s talk

about the hair. That’s another thing that caused a big stir on the internet.

What led up to you shaving half of your head?

Cassie: I had thought about it for awhile. My uncle used to listen

a band back in the day, and the lead singer had this cut. I’d never seen it on

anyone else. I’d never seen a girl do it. And I didn’t know how much I was

going to shave; I didn’t know how low it was going to be. I just did it. I just

woke up one morning and decided I wanted to do it. What am I holding out for?

I’m not modeling anymore. So I can shave my head. What do I need that side of

hair for anyway? It’s just taking up space on my head. I wanted something

different.

Since I was 12 I’ve been modeling and I’ve always had that

same hair. Never colored it or changed it. Actually I colored it once. It was

blonde, it looked really weird, I changed it back. And it was just my moment of

being a teenage and doing something my parents wouldn’t really approve of. My

Mom actually really likes it though.

AHHA: Why do you

think it caused such a stir?

Cassie: I have no

idea. I think people had a certain perception of me. They thought that I was

just this girly girl. All the glam the hair and make-up and the sexy dresses

and whatever it is and they had it wrong. I’m not 24/7 in hair and make-up. I’m

a t-shirt and jeans girl and some boots. I feel more comfortable now. This is

just a reflection of my attitude towards life right now and just who I am.

AHHA: What would you

say has been the hardest part about working in this industry for the years

you’ve been in it?

Cassie: Things have

definitely been difficult. It’s hard to break through. And you don’t want to

spend all your time trying to prove yourself to people. I enjoy making music. I

don’t care what people think about if I sound like Aretha Franklin or whatever

it is. I think I’m numb to being criticized which is fine. Sometimes I’m like

damn did they have to go that deep, but it doesn’t affect me like it used to. I

don’t really look at anything as a negative anymore. Because most of the time

people are just sitting behind their computers hiding.

AHHA: Where do you

see yourself going from here as an artist, as an entertainer, as a personality?

Cassie: I’m so

focused right now on getting this album out this year. I really do want to

continue making music. I love making music. Even if its just behind the scenes

helping create stuff. I did a film which I loved. I loved being on set and that

whole environment so I definitely want to try that again. I definitely need to

get more experience and take some classes. I’m really happy where I am now. I’m

going to be 23 years old this year and I’m just having a great time.

AHHA: Do you feel

like you’ve been targeted in anyway by the online blogs or certain press

outlets?

Cassie: I think

everyone is a target. It’s just life. They get on everyone. Everyone has an

opinion. Even the people that are right in my circle. It is what it is. The

streets are Gossip Girl right now.

AHHA: What do you

think is the biggest misconception about you?

Cassie: I think the

biggest misconception about me is that I’m not talented, because I clearly

would not be here if I wasn’t.

AHHA: Twenty years

from now if they had to sum up your life and career and all that you’ve

accomplished with one word. What word would you want that to be?

Cassie: Spontaneous.

Hip-Hop Rumors:Did Rakim Write For Will Smith? Chris Brown Mad At BET! MiJac Rumors!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor

and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have

whispered in our ear. Read on.THE DAILY TWO SENSEI cannot wait for the 4th of July aka Independence Day! MICHAEL JACKSON’S KIDS…I am sure that I am going to catch a bit of flack for even reporting this, but it is what it is. Right now, the word on the street is that the kids of Michael Jackson are not his. Now, I know some are going to say “DUH, we can see that.” But, I am actually talking something else. I am being told that the kids are not his in any form. They came out of that chick Debbie Rowe, but the man that fertilized it was not Mike, according to rumors. Also, what I am hearing is that the EGG wasn’t even Debbie Rowe’s. Basically, neither Mike nor Debbie were the father or mother. Here is the most bizarre aspect of it, from what I understand, the kids were never adopted by Michael Jackson, but he was taking care of them. Furthermore they are totally in his will, as is Mike mother. No mention of Papa “My New Record Label” Joe. I think I said it before, this is about to get too interesting. There is a rumor that the boy that accusing Michael Jackson of being a pedophile admitted to lying on MJ. That’s not true. He never recanted, QUINCY JONES TO SAVE VIBE?I heard Quincy Jones is mad! The founder of VIBE reportedly saw his face on AllHipHop.com and go totally p##### that it was associated with something that was closing down. KIDDING! Well they are saying that Q is about to shut down the shut down and rescue VIBE. There is a quote somewhere online where Quincy accused the current VIBE staff of ruining the magazine. I am not trying to say who he is dissing at the Vibe magazine team. Well, see if VIBE is to be saved or not. DID A MEMBER OF BLACK WALL STREET ROB DJ UNK?Nobody seems to know anything about who robbed DJ Unk! I can’t call it man, but I can call this: There is a rumor in circulation that a member of BWS robbed him, but who knows how true that is. If it is true, he may not be seeing it too soon. Unk is looking for the person and he said that people are giving him leads on twitter. Does that mean people are snitching to help him? Anyway, he’s saying that he is going to find the person, beat them up and tape the beat down.MAINO RUMOR!Hey, yesterday Maino’s CD hit stores. Please support. I don’t want this brother slapping nobody else up. And, I got this alert from a fan in Canada:THIS IS NOT A RUMOR..THIS IS REAL!!!Im from the East coast of Canada and none of the music retailers are carrying a single physical copy of Maino’s new released debut “If Tomorrow Comes”. I’m a Maino fan and this is straight up BS. I had to order it from Amazon.com, because even Amazon.ca didn’t have it. ChrisGo out and support Maino and Ace Hood too.DEAR KID CUDI,I meant no disrespect when I said “What happened to Kid Cudi?” I was talking aloud about your very promising career. I would like to see a bit more momentum from you, my brother. On your twitter, you said, ” dear allhiphop.com, thanx for shittin on me and then complimenting my mother.wit ya b#### a####.” Next time, could you acknowledge me as a the “b****h a$$? That would be cool. Seriously, your mother, who is so nice, would not like to see that lingo coming from her son nor the middle finger. Seriously, respect the music. Want to see more. As for AHH, the site, they have covered you quite a bit. No need to be so nasty.Your friend, illseed.DAMN YOU SOULJA BOY!!!!!You helped me help ruin a family’s life in the UK. Apparently, there is a family in Oldham, UK and they are p##### that fans continue to call their house thinking they are actually going to talk to Soulja Boy. Not! Soulja Boy featured the number to the home of Gerry Matley and his wife Catriona Howard Smith on some rap song he did. Well, they have received thousands of phone calls and now average about 60 or so per day. They just say that Soulja Boy doesn’t live there. “They have asked if I am his girlfriend but I think I am a bit too old, even for Soulja Boy,” said the 50-something year old Ms. Smith. Mr Matley broke it down even more. “What’s the chances of our phone number appearing in a US rap song? Probably as likely as winning the lottery, but without the money.”TWO-PIECE CALLS OUT JAY-ZI know you are like, “WTF is a Two-Piece?” Two Piece is the homey and he has a few really good points about the allegations that there were boycotts about Chris Brown performing at the BET Awards. A lot of people forgot that Don Cornelius was also recently in trouble for beating up his wife. Check him out below. Illseed, It’s your boy Freddy Two-Piece. Don’t stop what you’re doing man. I wouldn’t be able to get through the day. No h###. But I had to speak on the hypocrisy of society one time. I recently read that Jay-Z informed BET he wouldn’t perform if they allowed Chris Brown on stage. I guess he told them (BET) Beyonce wouldn’t either. Talk about pressure. I’m good with that. That’s what I call taking a stand. A man shouldn’t hit a women unless it absolutely necessary. Like if she pulled out a knife, gun, nun-chuks, or a blow dart. Any man who decides to go that route should be ashamed and should be ostracized by society (to an extent). I’m just saying be consistent Hov. Do you really care about domestic violence or just Rhiana? Stop grand standing and keep trill. I love Don Cornelius. I don’t know what I would have done on Saturday morning without Soul Train and the Baseball Bunch….But he’s a 73 year old Chris Brown and Jay-Z didn’t give two s#### about it. And it wasn’t like he caught his case in 1974. It was last year. Let me end this by saying, I’m not a women beater or a Chris Brown fan. I’m just a fan of consistency. I don’t like Raiders. It wouldn’t matter if my momma played for them…I would still wouldn’t like the Raiders. My favorite player of all time broke my heart and played for Raiders after playing for my team for 15+ years. I still couldn’t cheer for the team. That’s consistency. Two-Piece OLIVIA’S LIVING OUT IN THE WORLD! NEW NEW SONG!I just ran across this video of former G-Unit songstress Olivia doing a duet with African Superstar Fally Ipupa from Kinshasa, Congo. Olivia of course sings in English and Fally sings in Lingala and French. The title of the song is entitled “Chaise électrique.” In the chorus they sang, “Baby, I’m on Fire.” Check it!

RAKIM WROTE “SUMMERTIME?”Look at the first minute of this video and tell me what the hell just happened? I swore the Fresh Prince crafted a classic, but did a ghostwriter named Rakim do it?!

Listen to the song right here and tell me this doesn’t sound like it COULD be Rakim.

WHAT HAPPENED TO KANYEI was told – before the BET Awards – that Kanye West was supposed to perform at the BET Awards. I am wondering if anybody knew what happen to Kanye’s performance at the BET awards? He was a confirmed performer and was one of the reasons I tuned in to see it! There are rumors are saying that he was too upset to perform because of MJ or that he volunteered to not perform in order to make way for last minute MJ tributes. Do any of you have a clue? THE NEW LEVERT?You know Levert right? This is one of the most popular group’s and it had Sean and Eddie Levert in it. Tragically, both of them have passed on to the essence. Well, I am hearing that there is a new CD coming out call “LEVERT II” Levert II’s new album “Dedication” drops on July 13th, Gerald Levert’s birthday. If you didnt know, Marc Gordon (the last founding member of Levert) and Blaq Rose the newest member are releasing the project (Blaq Rose has worked with Dr. Dre, Anthony Hamilton, K – Ci and JoJo and Christina Milian.) Originally, it was to be a reunion album with Gerald, Sean and Marc. After the untimely death of Gerald, Sean and Marc decided to do a “Dedication” album. After adding Blaq Rose and continuing the development of the album, Sean passed away. JEEZ! ILLSEED’S QUICKIESIf you have a G, I heard you can book the rest of the members of Crime Mob. Check the features section for our new story on Princess. They are saying that Soulja Boy uses a phone number “Kiss Me Through The Phone” and if you call it you will get SB. They are going to cremate Michael Jackson so they can house his remains at Neverland. Crazy! This is floating around that Jay-Z and Beyonce stayed in separate hotels during the BET awards. I just don’t see the big deal for these titans of Hollyodd. Somebody told me that a classic street flick of the 90’s is about to get a sequel. I wish I could tell, but I have been swore to secrecy. “They” are now saying that neither Jay-Z nor Covergirl blocked Chris Brown’s performance. He was never confirmed…. HhmmmmmmRihanna is reportedly seeking to remove an order of protection between her and Chris Brown. There are rumors saying that CB is heated at BET for pulling his performance. Rumors have it that Lil Wayne is going to address the incident with his daughter and other underage girls coming out on stage at the BET Awards. A press release is supposedly on the way. Blanket’s real daddy wants her back. SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN ENDI can’t take it.

AllHipHop Chartwatch: Here Comes MJ, Maino, Ace Hood

This week’s chart watch comes at a time when many people are taking time to reflect because of the losses suffered in the entertainment world. The deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon were of course shockingly sad but it is Michael Jackson’s death that seems to have affected, well….everybody and everything. His death strained cell phone networks, almost doubled chatter on Twitter, and consumed the news networks.

Mike had such a monumental impact on music and it’s interesting to see how he affected so many artists. (If you get a chance go over to the rumors page and check out Dwele’s tribute to MJ.) Without Michael we would never hear Nas’ “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” or Jay-Z’s “Izzo (H.O.V.A)”. We would not have Usher, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, most young male singing groups, most young female singing groups, etc…you get the point. MTV would probably not be the same because Michael was an artist that reinvented the music video. Is there a popular Jackson song you can hear without picturing the video?

So now after watching a few days worth of Michael Jackson videos, news coverage of Michael Jackson, and (sigh) the B.E.T awards/tribute to Michael Jackson it’s time to chart the albums of the week. (I don’t know who said it but the quote of the week: “I wish B.E.T would die and Michael Jackson had to do a tribute to it”. But I digress).

Jackson’s influence was so strong that he literally controls the charts this week, forcing everyone in the top ten to drop three spots. He actually sets a record with this being the first time a cataloged title sold more than a current release in a week. (Jackson actually does it three times). Thriller, The Essential Michael Jackson, and Number Ones each sold over 100,000 copies putting them in the top three spots for this week. (Take note that Mike passed away on the on June 25th and the sales week ends on June 28th so the bulk of his sales happened over a three day period.) Number Ones is at number one selling 108,000 copies followed by Essential with 102,000 and Thriller with 101,000.

The Black Eyed Peas were to come in at number one but fall to four selling 85,000 copies of The E.N.D. Michael’s death also appears to have covered that ridiculous feud between Will.I.Am and Perez Hilton which was just starting to get annoying.

The Jonas Brothers come in at the fifth spot with their fourth album Lines, Vines, and Trying Times. They are followed by Regina Spektor who enters the charts at number six with her fifth album Far.

The Dave Matthews Band comes in at number seven with their album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King which is a tribute to one of their own fallen band members.

Eminem’s Relapse comes in at number eight. A few weeks ago I mentioned the diss song Mariah has out against Eminem. Well apparently she is also filming a video for the song where she dresses up like Eminem. Google those pictures and keep an eye out because their feud looks like it will be oddly interesting.

Dream Theater take the number nine spot followed by Ginuwine (Yes…Ginuwine) who grabs spot number ten. Ginuwine’s sixth album, A Man’s Thought’s, helps him to enter the charts this week and hopefully his fans will help him stay for the next.

Hmmm….No Lady Gaga. Thanks Mike.

DROPPING THIS WEEK

The genius of Michael was that he did what he wanted despite what other people thought. I’m pretty sure more than one person in the studio raised an eyebrow when MJ said he wanted to make a pop song with a Halloweenish theme and accompanying 14 minute long music video. Thriller, however, went on to become the highest selling album in history. Word is Quincy Jones didn’t even expect the album to sell like it did and he produced it.

Hip Hop artists should take a page out of Jackson’s book when it comes to creating music. Don’t get me wrong, Michael was definitely focused on the business of music his approach was different. He created good music with the belief that people would listen to it, like it, and buy it. He did not however create music for the sole purpose of selling. He did not copy what was popular and reproduce it to move units. Hopefully, more artists can learn from Michael Jackson’s work ethic and produce music of which they can truly be proud. Hopefully the artists dropping this week are already doing it.

First up we have Ace Hood who is dropping his second album, Ruthless. The Florida rapper just released his debut album, Gutta, last year and I for one don’t remember a song off it. The album was apparently solid enough to move 100,000 units and grant Ace a shot at a second album. Ruthless features Rick Ross, Akon, Ludacris, Jazmine Sullivan, and others. If you like the sound coming out of DJ Khaled’s camp then this one shouldn’t disappoint.

Next we have an artist that had a feud with KRS-One back in 1987. (They’ve made up since then). Blaq Poet releases his third studio album, Tha Blaqprint, with most of the production being done by DJ Premier. The album also features N.O.R.E and Lil Fame of M.O.P so it’s sure to have that east coast sound.

Since we are on the east coast let’s look at an artist that has been building a pretty sizable buzz in the underground community. Maino drops his highly anticipated album If Tomorrow Comes and many of his fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. The album features T-Pain, B.G., and Swizz Beatz plus production by some heavy hitters like Just Blaze. I don’t think I have to tell many people to pick this one up.

Next up is an MC out of San Francisco by the name of Kaz-Well. His debut album Fish Outta Water is produced by DJ Scotty Doo, Rhythm Defense, and Da Evangelist. The Asian American MC says he’s highly influenced by artists like Nas, Radiohead, and Curtis Mayfield so hopefully it makes for a good debut cd.

Now we have Jorge Alvarez a.k.a Kurious who’s dropping his second album II. Kurious hasn’t dropped an album since his 1994 debut A Constipated Monkey but has, since then, been feature on various singles by MF Doom and MF Grimm. His sophomore album, II, is being released by Amalgam Digital (who also recently released A Constipated Monkey: Demo Sessions) and will feature MF Doom, MC Serch, and Max B.

Now in the “Best Of” categories we have The Best Of Messy Marv, Playlist: The Very Best of Sir Mix-A-Lot, Playlist: The Very Best of TLC, and Playlist: The Very Best of Wu-Tang Clan. If you’re a fan of these artists then pick up one of the four albums. Also, the Wu-Tang Clan is releasing Chamber Music with all new music. I haven’t heard much about this one (which is surprising because it’s a Wu-Tang album) so if someone out there has heard it let the rest of us know how it is.

Getting back to new releases one half of Kidz in the Hall drops his debut album. Naledge’s Chicago Picasso features Rhymefest, Mickey Facts, and others with production by Sa-Ra and Double-O. This is a lot of material that Naledge had recorded on his own and wanted to release to the public. Fans of Kidz in the Hall should like this one.

Los Angeles MC and one-half of Psyco Realm, Sick Jacken, releases his third solo album, Stray Bullets. The album features guest appearances by B Real, Planet Asia, DJ Muggs and Immortal Technique to name a few.

Tash, one of the members of the Alkoholiks is releasing his second solo album, Control Freak. It’s been ten years since Tash released Rap Life, his well reviewed debut cd, and hopefully this one will be received with as much acclaim. The album features Khujo (who also has and album coming out down below), Kokane, and Knoc-Turn’al plus the Alkoholiks. Those looking for west coast music should look no further than this one or the disc by Sick Jacken.

Last up we have a duo between one of the members of Goodie Mob and an eclectic producer who come together and create a mash-up of music that is hard to categorize. Gnarls—Wait…not Gnarls? They’re called Willie Isz? Jneiro Jarel does the production and vocals and Khujo raps on their Debut cd, Georgiavania, which is said to be somewhat like the Cee-Lo and Dangermouse duo. This might be interesting so give it a listen.

All right, that was the week. A lot of these albums are selling for less then ten bucks so there is no excuse. Hit the store or itunes and support some of your favorites.

Michael Jackson Body To Be Displayed; Possible OD On Diprivan

Michael Jackson’s body is set to be returned to Neverland for a public viewing, which will take place this Friday (July 3).

A private funeral for the pop legend will take place on Sunday (July 5) with family members and numerous celebrity mourners who are said to be in attending.

The legendary singer’s body is currently traveling in a 30-car-motorcade to a secret location.

The family, however, is still unsure of where to bury Jackson.

When Jackson’s father Joe Jackson was asked if the singer would be buried at Neverland, which Mr. Jackson stated that it was too early to talk about funeral plans, as the family was awaiting the results of a second autopsy.

However the mayor of Gary, Indiana, the town where Jackson grew up, has stated he hopes that the singer would be buried there.

Mayor Rubin Clay said he believed “that his body will lie in state in Gary, Indiana. “Now, it may not happen, but I believe it will.”

Mayor Clay is planning a citywide memorial that he labeled “fit for the greatest entertainer that ever lived,” to honor the singer on July 10th.

The public viewing is set to draw tens of thousands of fans from around the world.

In related news, more details are emerging about Jackson’s death.

Last Sunday, a registered nurse and Nutritionist Cherilyn Lee, received a call from Michael Jackson last Sunday.

She said three months ago Jackson allegedly sought a powerful drug Diprivan, because he could not sleep.

Jackson was allegedly seeking to gain eight straight hours of sleep, because he could not sleep consistently.

Jackson had taken the medicine in the past, since it was prescribed by a previous doctor, although the drug commonly used in surgical procedures.

Against Lee’s will, Jackson allegedly continued to ask about the drug.

Lee told Anderson Cooper’s CNN Show Anderson Cooper 360, that she warned Jackson, at least three months ago, about the dangers of Diprivan.

Lee claims someone on Jackson’s staff called her last Sunday (June 21), possibly because Jackson recalled the symptoms she warned the drug would call.

She said that Jackson called her and complained that half of his body was hot, and the other side was cold.

Diprivan is a power drug that should be administered in a hospital setting.

According to sources, Los Angeles County coroners know what drug was in Jackson’s body already, but have not revealed the details.

A will Jackson made in 2001 has also been discovered.

EXCLUSIVE: NYC Council Names Queens Street After Run-DMC

The New York City Council approved a new bill today (June 30) that a major thoroughfare Run-DMC JMJ Way, in Hollis Queens, will be named after legendary rap group Run-DMC.

The bill, which was introduced by Deputy Majority Leader Leroy Comrie (D-27) passed today during the Council’s Stated Meeting in City Hall.

Once Mayor Michael Bloomberg signs the bill into law, the corner of 205th Street and Hollis Avenue will officially be renamed after the pioneering Hip-Hop group.

Joseph “Reverend Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and the late Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell grew up in Hollis, a borough of New York immortalized on tracks like “Hollis Crew” “Raising Hell,” and the holiday anthem “Christmas in Hollis.”

They formed Run-DMC in 1982 at the behest of Simmons’ older brother Russell, who went on to form Rush Artist Management and the legendary Def Jam record label, with Rick Rubin.

The group went on to accomplish a number of first’s for Hip-Hop culture.

Run-DMC was one of the early act rap acts to perform on American Bandstand, the first rap group with gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums, the first rap group to receive a Grammy nomination, the first rap act to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, the first rappers to make a video appearance on MTV and numerous other accomplishments.

Run-DMC was officially inducted into the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame on April 4, 2009.

“Given their historic accomplishments, Run D.M.C. is a tremendous source of pride for the Hollis community I represent,” Council Member Comrie told AllHipHop.com. “Their dedication and hard work has inspired countless others and they have given back generously to this community. Most recently, Mr. McDaniels donated numerous memorabilia for the establishment of the Hollis Hip Hop Museum, which is located in the Hollis Famous Burger establishment on 203rd Street and Hollis Avenue.”

The accomplishment also marks the first time a major New York City street has been renamed after a Hip-Hop group.

Council Member Comrie also stated he hopes the move will help revitalized the Hollis, Queens community with new business.

“I have chosen the 205th Street location because it is in proximity to the museum and also is the site of a famous mural of the group’s late member, Mr. Mizell. It is my sincere hope that this street renaming, combined with the museum, will help to economically revitalize this particular neighborhood as a potential tourism attraction.”

AHH Stray News: Soulja Boy Phone Mayhem, Flo Rida, Tru Life

Fans of Soulja Boy in the UK have bombarded an Oldham family with phone calls, due to lyrics in the chart-topping rapper’s#### single “Kiss Me Thru The Phone.” In the lyrics to the song, the rapper recites the number to his voicemail (678-999-8212), while encouraging listeners to give him a buzz. In the United States, the number is powered by a SayNow, a technology company that enables stars to use a dedicated number to interact with calls. In the UK, the number rings to the home of Gerry Matley and Catriona Howard Smith. According to reports, the couple is receiving over 60 calls per-day. They say fans are disappointed to learn that it’s an actual residence and not Soulja Boy’s line.

Flo Rida and Sean Kingston will headline the ‘Rock the Rapids’ concert series this August, organizers of the event have announced. The Rock the Rapid in Comstock Park, Michigan, takes place at the home of the minor-league baseball team The West Michigan White Caps. The first event in the two-day concert series is the Chickenfoot concert, which takes place on August 13. Flo Rida and Sean Kingston will take to the stage the following evening (August 14), with a variety of local acts. Tickets for the show, which takes place at the Fifth Third Ballpark, go on sale on July 2. Prices range from $20-$35. Roc-A-Fella rapper Tru Life has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge.

Tru Life, born Roberto Rosado Jr., was arrested after an attack in an apartment lobby in Manhattan on June 15 resulted in the death of another man, Christopher Guerrero, 20. Tru Life’s brother Marcus Rosado also faces similar charges. Tru Life signed a six-figure deal with Roc-A-Fella in 2005 and he was featured prominently in Roc-A-Wear advertising campaigns. The incident was caught on surveillance camera as well, according to police, who are holding Tru Life without bail.

Vibe Magazine Shuts Down

VIBE magazine has shut down.

The magazine was launched in 1993 by music industry legend Quincy Jones and it served as as widely revered urban magazine.

“On behalf the VIBE CONTENT staff (the best in this business), it is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today,” said Danyel Smith, former Chief Content Officer of Vibe Media Group and Editor in Chief of Vibe.

“We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news,” Smith said in a statement released to AllHipHop.com. “It’s a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of VIBE Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for hip hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who continue to love the VIBE brand. We thank you, we have served you with joy, pride and excellence, and we will miss you.”In the 90’s, VIBE experienced meteoric success as a business and an outlet for urban journalism.

It has ailed under the ownership of private equity firm Wicks Group of Companies, AOL reported.

The magazine had seen a dramatic reduction in ad pages and circulation.

Earlier this year, employees were put on a four-day workweek and other cuts were made such as scaling back to 10 issues per year.

There is speculation that the magazine will transform into an online-only entity.

Rapper Pepa, TLC’s Chilli Land New Reality Shows

Rapper Sandra “Pepa” Denton of Salt-N-Pepa fame has inked a deal with VH1 to star in a new untitled reality series.

Pepa’s latest foray into the reality show genre will feature the pioneering female emcee looking for love after spending years being celibate.

According to the New York Daily News, Pepa and three of her single girlfriends will meet each week over brunch, to discuss the past week.

“The Pepa show, I think, gives us a window into the real conversations women have about their lives and relationships,” said Jeff Olde, VH1’s EVP of Original Programming and Production.

VH1 also signed former TLC star Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas to a deal to star in a reality show.

Thomas will also search for love, with the help of Brooklyn-based relationship expert Tionna Smalls to assist the singer in her search for a mate.

Pepa previously starred in two seasons of The Salt-N-Pepa show.

Her group, Salt-N-Pepa has sold over 12 million records worldwide.

As part of TLC, Chilli sold 22 million records in the United States alone.

Both shows are slated to air in 2010.

Hip-Hop Rumors: DJ UNK Robbed! Chris Brown Gets Madeup! 50 Cent Turns Nice,

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor

and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have

whispered in our ear. Read on.THE DAILY TWO SENSE

I don’t know how long I am going to be around. I’m just keeping it real. That’s all I’m going to say right now.

There are so many rumors about MJ that I don’t know where to start.

There are rumors about his voice. There are rumors that he didn’t know

that he was signing on to do 50 shows in the UK. They are saying Mike only wanted to do 10 shows. Wow. I don’t know if people even want all these Mike rumors….

Shout out to Diddy for reppin’ for Michael Jackson and talking about the media coverage of the King of Pop.

I know they want rumors about this next guy though.

WAS DRAKE ROBBED?

I am not sure, but I am hearing that Drake was robbed or somebody

attempted to rob him while at the BET Awards. If that’s the case, then

things are getting hectic for Drizzy. What they are saying is that the

rapper was out in LA for all of the rehearsing and stuff for the Awards

and somebody ran up on him. Now, my source was actually very protective

of Drake and refused to divulge and other info. They basically said

that both his back and leg are injured.

YUNG BERG BEAT UP?

There is another one of those rumors going around, but I don’t know

how true it is. I heard that Yung Berg may have had a situation out in Los Angeles that

ended up with him getting pounced on. It may have been nothing, because

he seemed to be in good spirits on twitter. I am sure he’s cool…

BUT…this next dude isn’t!

DJ UNK GETS ROBBED

If you know like I know, DJ Unk recently got robbed. If you know

anything about it, you need to help him out. Here are some of the

tweets he said.

STYLES P DISSES “NO H###”

Styles P has some issues with the use of the term “no h###,” but do

you think he’s going at some body else that really likes to use the

term “no h###.”

A REAL MAN SHOULDNT BE SAYING PAUSE AND NO H### AND NO RAINBOW ALL

DAY!! MAYBE if there was no tight jeans and bendinova behind doors!!

50 CENT: THE GOOD GUY

50 Cent is turning into a good guy of sorts. How? He is really

looking our of the hood. The latest rumor is that 50 is attempting to

get lil Prodigy out of jail sooner than later. According to recent

reports they are trying to work that magic to get P out of the pen by

at least December of this year.

50 Cent is gearing up for his big event in August and he’s rumored

to be bringing out Floyd Mayweather, Llamar Odom, Maino, Papoose,

D-Block, Ron Artest and a gang of others. 50 Cent has been clowning

Perez Hilton pretty heavy.

I TOLD YOU!

CHRIS BROWN READY TO COMEBACK!

It would seem that Virginia has something

to prove. Timbaland and Chris Breezy are working together on the

comeback for CB. I don’t have much more to say other than people

telling me that both are looking to make a comeback of sorts.

Oh and the reason why Chris Brown didn’t perform, according to a new

rumor, is because of Jay-Z. Well, I know I said that yesterday, but I

am saying it again. According to one of Chris’s dancers, Jay-Z

threatened to boycott the show and not perform if they had Chris Brown

performing. They said everything was 100% set to go too. In the context

of MiJac, CB was more important to the night. On the flip side, he’s

also an admitted beat of women and it’s just too soon to look past that.

The final word on this rumor really seems to be that Covergirl, the

show’s most involved sponsor was about to withdraw their support if

Breezy was involved. As you know, Rihanna is a spokes person.

Where was Usher!? Paris.

FROM THE NANNY…

What I don’t fully understand is why didn’t these people do

something to stop the death of Michael Jackson? In hindsight, it is

very clear that MJ had his issues but nobody seemed to do anything!

They say the good die young. I guess so.

The Nanny of MJ had stepped up and she’s basically saying the dude

was on drugs a lot and that she had to pump his stomach. Check it.

“I had to pump his stomach many times. He always

mixed so much of it. There was one period that it was so bad that I

didn’t let the children see him … He always ate too little and mixed

too much.”

People are just coming out…but they didn’t help.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

The Game was reportedly out and about filming some MJ dedications.

RIP to Billy Mays.

A new remix of Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” has people thinking Mase is back. Why? Mase is on the song. Lol!

What happened to Kid Cudi. No disrespect, but it seems like he may be getting his wish of retirement, but not on his terms.

On the flip side, Kid Cudi attended the awards with his mother and

she was the nicest lady on Earth. Good. Cudi is supposed to drop in

August.

Rumor has it, BET was a little annoyed that Jamie Foxx didn’t want to practice the. Supposedly, most of the show and his jokes were ad libbed.

BET had to almost completely throw away the show they had planned because of Michael.

Tevin Campbell’s performance was not planned before the death of the King. It came together after the Michael death.

I heard the Jackson family is readily available in the Los Angeles area. Several people I know have seen them in at places like Starbucks. I will say this is minus any of the sisters.

My sources are telling me that Janet is devastated over the death of

Michael but got the sense that the word “devastation” didn’t

necessarily apply to other key members of the family.

Also, some sources are saying some buzz word stuff about “concert

insurance fraud,” but I personally don’t know what that means. Also.

They are very upset at the doctor that was paid to take care of

Michael. It is rumored that he “passed” Michael to do the tour, but

realty didn’t put him under the proper tests to make sure he was

actually ready.

People are saying that MJ was straight up assassinated. I wonder…I wonder. Theories are all over the place.

LOL! Somebody posted on my Facebook that I met my true love Devi

Dev. Not true, but meeting her would be a delight to my soul. LMAO!

DEDICATION TO MJ

This starts off very slow, but gets more and more incredible as it goes along. Shout out to Dwele.

HERE IS ANOTHER VIEW OF THE BET AWARDS

I have seen a lot of negative comments about the BET Awards, but here’s another view.

I watched the BET awards and I was listening to Jamie Foxx introduce

Beyonce like she was going to do something big.She comes out and sings

a basically religous song and she is half naked what is the point of

that. Then she wins an award and people are giving her a standing O.I

was like you give the Ojays a standing O.All on the red carpet they

asked people who they would like to see perform and they were trying to

force people to say Beyonce. It is like they are trying to force her on

people. There are alot of good artist out there who deserves

attention. Is it me or is the D.O.A thing is out of hand.I would like to

think that music heads can think for themselves. If someone likes a song

with the autotune then that`s cool but if not that`s fine but don`t

stop liking because Jay is telling you to stop liking it.And di anyone

see Puffy`s face while Jay was performing he didn`t look happy. And why

was Dawn sitting next to Diddy I thought that was Q woman? One more

thing BET did a good Job under the time frame.

STEVIE WONDER CELEBRATES MICHAEL JACKSON

I got this letter in from a reader who saw Stevie and John Legend

in concert. And if you say “Stevie who,” I’m slapping you up!

Just got back from the Stevie Wonder/John Legend concert here in Milwaukee. I

have to say this was by far the greatest concert I’ve ever

attended…John Legend did his thing to warm up the crowd; Stevie by

far shut it down!!! He started off the night

addressing all those who continue to speak ill of Michael Jackson and

urged the crowd to focus on the positive of one’s life and ignore all

the b#######. (His words!!!) Stevie didn’t waste anytime doing what he

does best; except this time around, he managed to have MJ tracks played

in between his songs to celebrate MJ’s life. The crowd went crazy! Stevie even let his real emotions show and broke out crying at one point…definitely moving! The

crowd sang along to every word and danced to each song, I’ve never

heard Stevie sound so good…i guess he felt as if MJ were watching

over him. Stevie did a SICK mix from Superstition to We Are The World, definitely was not expected but more than appreciated. Ended up closing the night with a nice MJ mix, a fitting tribute from a fellow legend in the game. Definitely blessed by the experience.
