Kurupt Launches Label; New LP With DJ Quik

West Coast rapper Kurupt is gearing up for what he hopes to be an exceptional New Year.

In addition to three new projects slated for release in 2009, the Dogg Pound co-founder has created a new imprint to be distributed through Fontana/Universal, he told AllHipHop.com exclusively.

The newly founded Penagon Entertainment will be operated jointly by Kurupt and his Atlanta-based management firm Lakeshow Management.

The distribution agreement with Fontana/Universal will allow the former Death Row Records VP to retain all creative control over his music and those signed to the label.

It also provides for the continued expansion of the label’s roster, while growing his resume as a business man.

Kurupt is also adding to his lengthy catalog of collaborations, with the release of a new album with DJ Quik.

The new LP, entitled Blaqout, will be released via Quik’s Mad Science Records, which is also distributed by Fontana/Universal.

The idea for the project came about while the two worked together on Snoop Dogg’s album, Ego Trippin’.

During their many discussions about music, Kurupt said they came to the conclusion that they should create an album together.

“Me and Quik are like night and day,” Kurupt said. “You can’t have one without the other – the perfect combination.”

While putting the finishing touches on Blaqout, Kurupt is also preparing for the February release of his next solo LP, Street Lights, which will be the first project on Penagon/Fontana/Universal.

The album heavily features production by West Coast producer Terrance Martin, known for his work on Snoop’s last album.

Also in the pipeline is 100 Wayz, the latest offering by Tha Dogg Pound, which is the first official album from the group since 2005’s Dogg Food.

In past interviews, the group has said that their intermittent releases should be considered no more than official mixtapes.

In preparation for the new release, Daz and Kurupt recently partnered with DJ Drama for Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta Grill titled Full Circle.

The duo is also working on a collaborative project with producer Pete Rock.

Dr. Dre Son’s Death Ruled a Heroin Overdose

The Los Angeles coroner’s office has determined that the August death of Andre Young, Jr. was due to an overdose of heroin and morphine.

The 20-year-old, born Andre Young, Jr. was found unconscious and not breathing on August 23 by his mother at the family’s Woodland Hills home.

He had spent the night partying with friends. An autopsy was completed within a few days, but the cause of a death was delayed per the results of a myriad of tests, including a toxicology report.

LA coroner spokesman Larry Dietz revealed that his division has officially closed the case as an “accidental death” due to “morphine and heroin intoxication.”

Since the untimely passing on his son, Dr. Dre has declined to speak on the matter, requesting that fans and media alike respect his family’s need for privacy.

“Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son,” stated Lori Earl, the producer’s publicist. “Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time.”

The devastating loss came as Dre was preparing a December release of the oft-delayed and long-awaited Detox, his third and alleged final studio album.

The LP is now expected to follow new albums in 2009’s first quarter from Eminem (Relapse) and 50 Cent (Before I Self-Destruct).

To date, the only confirmed appearances on the album are Nas, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and 50 Cent.

“No Woman, No Cry” Songwriter Vincent Ford Dies

Vincent Ford, the man credited with writing Bob Marley’s classic “No Woman, No Cry,” passed away in Jamaica on December 28.

According to Intrepid reporter Brittany Somerset, the songwriter’s death comes after a long struggle with diabetes.

Both of Ford’s legs had been amputated due to complications from the disease.

Ford became good friends with Bob Marley as the two grew up in the Trench Town ghetto of Kingston, Jamaica in the 1960s.

The song “No Woman, No Cry” first appeared on Bob Marley’s 1974 album Natty Dread.

The most well known version of the track remains the concert version off the 1975 album Live!

The song later gained even more international fame with its inclusion on the greatest hits compilation Legend (1984), now recognized as the best selling reggae album of all time.

Although Vincent Ford is officially credited as the sole songwriter of the seminal hit, rumors persist that Marley added Ford’s name to ensure his friend would have royalties for the rest of his life.

Despite the whisperings, Ford went on to write three more songs for Marley’s breakthrough album Rastaman Vibration: “Positive Vibration,” “Roots, Rock, Reggae,” and “Crazy Baldhead.”

After Marley succumbed to cancer in 1981, Ford ran a soup kitchen in his native Jamaica and made no further forays into songwriting.

“No Woman, No Cry” continues to be a popular cover song.

Throughout its 35 year history, the song has been reworked by The Fugees, Sean Kingston, Pearl Jam, Jimmy Cliff, Faith Hill, and Tila Tequila.

Vincent Ford was 68 years old.

Hip-Hop Photographer Missing In France; Family Seeks Help

The international Hip-Hop community has banded together to help French authorities in their search for Hip-Hop photographer Hermann Deza.

The 33-year-old was last seen leaving his house on December 26 and has not been heard from since.

Deza, known among his peers as Hermosdef, has neither his wallet nor his cell phone with him.

His family and friends have circulated a flyer with his picture and contact information for authorities in Puteaux, France, a northern suburb of Paris.

In addition to posting the flyer on several popular French and US blogs, Deza’s family and friends are also utilizing social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook to help in the search.

They have even encouraged supporters to help further by using the flyer as their profile avatars.

The French-born son of Ivory Coast immigrants in Paris, Deza first became interested in photography while studying in London.

Describing both music and photography as his passions, he has made a career of capturing Paris’ vibrant soul and Hip-Hop community through portraits he calls “Afropics.”

His works include photos of US artists performing in France, such as Musiq Soulchild and Method Man, as well as some of the artists at the forefront of American-inspired urban music in France, including Les Nubiennes, soul vocalist Agnes Paris, and rappers Booba and Tiemoko.

He is a member of the Jazzefique Hip-Hop collective.

Anyone with information about Hermann Deza’s whereabouts is asked to contact the police precinct in Puteaux at +33 01.55.91.91.40.

Calls can also be directed to +33 06.63.85.98.23 or 06.13.58.88.33

Hip-Hop-Not Dead, Soulja Boy’s Career…?

Maybe I didn’t hear this right.  Did Soulja Boy just indirectly blame Nas for the abysmal sales of his latest album?  Did the Billboard cover boy just suggest that Hip-Hop is dead? (Damn it!  I swore I would never utter, nor write that phrase eveeeerrrr again.) Did Soulja Boy just call some of the Hip-Hop Nation brain dead parrots who simply repeat what the perceived experts say? Okay, well maybe that’s kinda sort of the truth.  But until Soulja Boy is actually welcome in the Hip-Hop Nation, which will probably be the 1st of never, he really is in no position to mock the brethren.

I’m assuming Mr. Tellem felt that his mini-monologue was a sincere challenging of an already overly-challenged phrase.  However, it came off as a selfish thought theft being used as an excuse for the fact that no one bought his sophomore effort.

I also find it quite amusing that this video popped up as the writers around the web (including yours truly) started regretting their 2008 contempt for SB and cutting him a collective break. I guess regretting regret is going to be the way of the walk in this case. I don’t even think the “respect the kid’s grind because he’s making that paper” crew can save him now.

People are already contemplating what Ether 2 is going to sound like. Considering what Ron Browz has been kicking out lately, I think that nostalgic pairing should be left in the past. Mr. Jones’ bars broken up with an extra helping of auto-tuned ooooohhhhh’s will deflate his credibility a bit since no one seems to like that handy dandy tool much these days.  And there really is no point of slicing someone’s wrist after they have already shot themselves in the head.  A Nas response would simply be over-kill and aren’t we moving to a kinder, gentler Hip Hop? That’s what the prognosticators are saying anyway.

Here is the rub though.  I’ll bet you a snotty Benjamin that there are some folks who agree with him.  It’s not like that whole HHID movement didn’t encounter resistance.  There were some pretty thoughtful critics who pulled out the e-daggers when Nas started marketing his most controversial album to date. Hell, people are still talking about it. So is SB now the poster child for the anti-HHID movement or is he just another loyal member of the HHID club who has strayed from the list of usual suspects? Or maybe he is simply tossing his hat into the ring for the next time Nas needs a good PR person.

If you ever hear Nas say, “I don’t like rap music right now,” you know what’s up; especially if it comes on the tail end of a freestyle ode to the plantation overseers.  The more I think about it, the more some of what Soulja Boy said makes sense.  I mean if anyone can spot a dumb ass remark in a hay stack, it would be him.

Seriously though, when Nas was making his rounds right after HHID dropped, he said one of the things that led him to using Hip-Hop is Dead as his title was the younger generations expectation that those who blazed the Hip Hop trails they skipped down unfettered would step to the side.  He felt there were some newbies who were buying into their own hype and that character flaw was bothersome to him.  He said there were rappers out there who thought they should be considered big shots after one album and liked to take shots at folks who had been doing it for a while.  How prophetic is it that the same personality type Nas credited for the back peddling of the genre has stepped to the forefront to cast blame.  I mean in the world according to Soulja Boy, a few months ago Hip Hop was the best thing since ice and tats. It’s amazing how much a Soundscan report can change a thought process.

Look, I don’t think SB killed Hip-Hop any more than I think Nas did because to have a killer you have to have a death.  It’s been a bumpy road and plenty of issues need to be addressed, but life support is not one of them. So SB and his Yums carriers can fill that empty coffin with all those extra copies of iSouljaboy Tellem that no one is going to buy and have their little funeral because the only thing round here that’s dead is that album.

“If you really think it’s dead n*cca, then revive it. You feel me? Do something.  Bring it back to life.”

-Soulja Boy

TOP 10 SPORTS STORIES OF 2008

In 2008, we witnessed arguably one of the greatest years in sports history. If there was one phrase that comes to mind that best described 2008’s Year in Sports, I would have to describe it as “The Year of OH, SNAP!”  Well that is the G-rated version of the saying, but you get the idea. I cannot remember a year like this in sports in my lifetime.

Of course, the older generation can argue that they have witnessed better seasons in the past, i.e. the Season of ’69 (Joe Willie’s Jets in Super Bowl III and the Amazing Mets), but the Sports version of “Old School vs. New School” will be around until the end of time. However, when it comes to 2008, there were more plot twists than an episode of Murder She Wrote.

So, what will we remember about 2008 from the world of sports? Dara Torres, The Detroit Red Wings, Michael Vick, Marion Jones, Adam “Pacman” Jones; the list goes on and on. It depends on whatever floats your boat. The best thing about the 2008 Sport’s year is that we watched, we witnessed the majesty of it all. As the late, great Jim McKay would say in the opening of ABC’s Wide World of Sports, “the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat… the human drama of athletic competition”.

Therefore, I ask you to watch and witness as I share with you the Top 10 things I will remember the most from the year in sports from 2008:

10) Super Mario: The Kansas Jayhawks, 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Champions

9) The Saga Continued: The Brett Favre Saga

8) The Greatest Tennis Match in our Lifetime: Nadal / Federer, Wimbledon 2008

7) Irish Pride: 2008 Boston Celtics, NBA Champs

6) Quicksilver 2008: Usain Bolt

5) Hit ‘Em High, Hit ‘Em Low & Is Philly in this motherf*@#er? : The 2008 MLB Season

4) I Will Not Lose: Tiger Woods, 2008 U.S. Open

3) Golden Redemption: 2008 Men’s Olympic Basketball/The Dream Team

2) Aquaman 2008: Michael Phelps

1) Land of the Giants: Super Bowl XLII, Upset for the ages

Well that’s it. That’s my list. I’m sure I left a few things off and of course this topic is always subject to debate, so let the debating begin. Let me ask you this, what are your favorite moments for 2008 in the world of sports?

Soulja Boy Assaulted In Georgia

A representative for teen sensation Soulja Boy has confirmed the young entertainer was assaulted last week.

Unconfirmed reports began circulating on New Year’s Eve that Soulja Boy and several of his close friends were ambushed and robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night (December 30) after six men invaded the rapper’s home.

Allegedly, Soulja Boy’s friend Jbar was nearly taken hostage during the robbery.

The following day (December 31), a video surfaced of two masked men claiming responsibility for the crime.

In the clip, the duo boasted of stalking Soulja Boy before the attack by attending his album release party and subsequently tailing the rapper to his home.

The alleged thieves further described the robbery in detail. They disputed initial reports of there being six assailants armed with pistols and Ak-47s.

Instead, the alleged robbers claimed the crime was completed between them with one weapon.

Due to the two minute video’s over the top content, the clip was initially met with skepticism by fans and media alike.

However, a representative for Soulja Boy has confirmed with AllHipHop.com that an incident did take place, but the rep refused to provide any concrete details, stating only that the crime is “a serious situation.”

Soulja Boy released his sophomore album iSouljaBoyTellem on December 16.

Earlier this week, the teen rapper again sparked controversy by releasing a Youtube video accusing legendary lyricist Nas of killing Hip-Hop and destroying economic opportunities of other emcees.

AllHipHop.com will continue to cover this story as more details emerge.

RUN DOWN OF KATT AND STEVE HARVEY My girl Ashley gave me the 100% thorough run-down of the Katt Williams and Steve Harvey beef. LOL. Beef? They need Biggie to run down “What’s beef.” Anyway, take it away Ash: Hey illseed, I was at the Katt Williams Steve Harvey show last night in detroit… besides Katt getting cut short it was a pretty decent show… It actually started right on time (9:00), but ran late which is why (im assuming) they cut Katt short… they had a gut do a tribute to luther vandross which was really good and some comedian i havent heard of (and dont remember today) do a set then Steve came out… he was funny but it kinda seemed forced, like you could kinda tell he aint really wanna be there it was just another pay check… plus he spent half his set talking about this lady that was sitting in the front row… now she did look crazy and was acting real weird but it was a bit much… when security tried to kick her out cause she wouldnt shut up Steve did stand up for her tho… he also kept talking about the set up of the venue and how f*cked up it was cause it was in a big ass circle… and he kept saying he was an original king of comedy so he funny regardless of whether or not we were laughing at him… after he did about an hour, there was supposed to be a twenty minute intermission which turned into like forty-five so Katt didnt even hit the stage til like 11:45… now the show was advertised as like a comedy championship between the underground king (Katt) and the original king of comedy (steve) but Steve wasnt really playing into all that… he just told some jokes and talked about how he wasnt feeling the set up cause it was like a boxing match with ppl on all sides of him… when Katt came out he played into the whole battle thing and had his robe and belt and all that, he even took off his coat and threw it into the crowd… When he started his set Katt went real hard at Steve calling him B#### made and talking about how he cant be the original king of comedy because he wasnt the first… and how we should all ask for our money back cause Steve took so much time talking about the lady in the front row… He was also going hard on T-Pin about the BET awards and how he came down to the video shoot the next day and confronted the n#### and he got on his bus like a little b#### and drove off… Katt was hilarious for the few minutes he was up there, which I honestly had been a little worried about because sometimes he is hilarious and sometimes its just chuckles… but he was telling s### that wasnt on his last dvd so it was pretty straight… im thinkin there were some die hard steve fans there tho cause you heard a few boos when he was talking about him in the beginning… they stopped the thing at midnight so we could all count down and then Katt told a few more jokes then you just started seeing mad ppl leaving and Katt said they told him he had to stop it was about 12:15 at this point… I know the show was supposed to be over before midnight but it wasnt our fault (or Katt’s) that the other s### ran late… so Katt apologized that he aint get to do his full show and we all left… Anyways it would have been better if they hadnt made Katt get off the stage so early but was still worth the money that my friend paid for the tickets… atleast to me it was lol… anyways have a happy new year and i hope your night went as good as mine did! Lol SHELZ GOT THE VIDEO! A New King of Comedy? So that big comedy championship “fight” went down last night between Steve Harvey and Katt Williams in Detroit after all that back and forth between them in the days leading up to it. Well actually it was just Katt dissin folks for the most part. Jamie Foxx added to the mix by saying that Katt hadn’t written a new joke in years and his cohorts on Foxxhole Radio really gave lil man hell. That led me to believe that everyone was rooting for Steve right? Well, according to my folks in Detroit, Steve would have been better off calling in sick because Katt came in with an entire set of new material and went straight for Steve’s jugular. They also said Steve was the one with the recycled material. The Rock City consensus is there is a new King of Comedy and his name is Katt Williams. Shouts to TheAlexJ0nesChannel for the footage and my boy Darkside for the info. PSA… If you have vertigo or any type of motion illness, I’d suggest you not watch the first video. And lol@ole dude filming this getting busted.

Queen Latifah Robbed For $10k Worth Of Jewelery

Oscar nominated rapper/singer Queen Latifah became the victim of thieves when more than $10,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from her luxury villa in Tobago on Monday (December 29).

Police investigating the incident believe the theft was an inside job that may have been committed by a member of the house and grounds staff at Stone Haven Villas, Black Rock Tobago.

According to Trinidad and Tobago’s Newsday, authorities state there was no forced entry into the villa, which reinforces the inside job theory. Latifah was in Tobago last week for the Christmas holidays.

The 35-year-old entertainer, who checked into the $1,000 a night villa under the name Cynthia Hadden, reportedly stayed at the compound with a female friend.

Police were informed of Latifah’s visit by Stone Haven management, which asked that special attention be paid to the area.

Despite having three security guards on duty around the clock, a bracelet, two gold rings, a gold chain and a silver ring were taken, as Latifah attended a barbecue brunch in her honor.

Guards conducted a search of the villa after the rapper contacted the Stone Haven manager, when she discovered the jewelry was missing.

Police were notified when the search came up empty. A statement was later taken from Latifah, who has since checked out of Stone Haven.

The rapper was reportedly upset over the theft as she stated the jewelry had a sentimental value and that she would be willing to offer a reward for its return.

Tobago police, who have conducted searches, have questioned staff assigned to the villa and Stone Haven employees.

Acting police commissioner James Philbert expressed his department’s desire to retrieve the jewelry as he told Newsday that “several searches are being carried out and the police are trying to have the jewelry returned to Queen Latifah.”

“Investigators said the larceny seems to be an inside job and efforts are being made round the clock to make a breakthrough,” he shared with the paper.

G.W. Bush: Illseed’s Person of the Year

Once again I, illseed, pick the “Illseed Person of the Year.”

That person is none other than G.W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States of America.

Yes.

I won’t be long with this dissertation, but I have thought long and hard about this decision.

As you know, most publications such as Time and Ebony have deemed the history-making Barack Obama as their Person of the Year. And, guess what? They are absolutely correct, because Obama is a phenomenon most of us never thought we’d see in our lifetime. But the Illseed Person of the Year defies convention, as you may have realized over the years.

G.W. Bush is the Person of the Year, according to illseed.

Why? Here is why.

First of all, Bush’s screwed up, two-term presidency created the dire conditions that softened the nation to Barack Obama’s incredible message of “Change.” Without the stench of the last eight years, there is no real reason for an Obama-type; a harbinger of revolution. Even Obama recognized that he was amidst a perfect storm that presented circumstances that would never present themselves again. That’s why Obama ran when others told him to wait!

Dubya must be commended for putting John McCain, O’s opposition, in a ditch before he could even start to campaign for the highest position in the nation. A few years ago, Bush decimated McCain with the help of Karl Rove (also known affectionately as “Bush’s Brain”) and then McCain thought being down with Bush was a redeeming career trait. Not. So Bush is the primary reason the war vet was dusted off by Obama, aside from his own screw-up’s like picking Sarah Palin as his running mate and failing to create a cohesive campaign message.

Bush helped bring the nation together as much as he helped to divide it. By the end of the eight years…we were unified as hell, by and large. Some people took their blinders off and gave “change” a shot. Others let got of old baggage and assumed more forward-thinking notions.

Here is a notion you probably haven’t heard from illseed. I actually think G.W. Bush is probably a riot, a fun sort of guy—outside of mismanaging the nation. I mean, dude is too funny! Obviously the comedians have had a ball for the duration of his dictatorship, but if you want endless entertainment, just look at footage of Bush. Take the reaction to the shoe-throwing incident at the hands of an Iraqi journalist. “All I can report is it is a size 10,” he said as a joke. Classic reply, admit it. If only I went to college with Bush and he was the life of the party…not the president.

Question: Have you ever been tortured? I have in different ways and that’s not a play on the improprieties of some of our military men. Let it be known that there is no greater relief than when the torture stops. In fact, when the pain does stop, the torturee (yes, torturee) tends to thank the torturer for ending the agony. I think of Katrina. I think of September 11. I think of the war in Iraq, which Bush admitted he wasn’t ready for. I think of the present economic crisis, which has fallen on his watch. This is why G.W. Bush gets the nod as the “Illseed Person of the Year!” The torture has stopped!

Thanks, Dubya!

George Bush now joins the ranks of the honorable Will Smith, the legendary MC Hammer and others, who I admire. Like them, he’ll never be forgotten. Unlike them, he’ll be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

“And President Bush so hated/ He went to Iraq and almost got a-shoe-sinated.” – Skillz, rap artist.

Epilogue: I admit the true person of the year is Barack Obama, but nobody is really giving Bush the credit he deserves for creating the climate for this to occur. Thanks, dude- you ROCK…

Rappers, Producers Reveal New Year’s Resolutions; 2009 Plans

Now that a tumultuous 2008 has come to an end, a number of rappers and producers took time this week to plan the new year and reveal their resolutions for 2009.

The year which has now passed seems to have brought these artists closer to their fans, as their resolutions reflect that of the public at large.

Like most people in the United States, the most pressing concern for the artists who shared their resolutions with AllHipHop.com is financial.

Some, like Nappy Roots’ Fishscale are hoping to recover from losses suffered in the real estate market last year.

For Queens veteran Noreaga, the plan is simply to conduct business with a calm mind, leaving all emotion out of it.

“My New Year’s Resolution is to first and foremost keep a clear mind,” Naughty By Nature’s Vinnie told AllHipHop.com.

“Also to work hard promoting our new LP and to purchase more investment property to futher secure my retirement,” Vinnie added, a sentiment echoed by Grand Hustle recording artist Alfamega, who hopes to see the release of his debut album this year.

While the more seasoned artists are thinking in terms of investment, a bevy of newcomers are planning to take the entertainment industry by storm with new projects in 2009.

From Lil’ Jon’s latest discovery, Shawty Putt, to Hot Stylz, the marquee artists on Yung Joc’s new label, a new wave of artists are hoping to sustain the region’s hold on the airwaves. For one artist in particular, however, there is a little more at stake.

“I plan on putting out one of the best female albums of all time,” Warner Bros. recording artist Diamond told AllHipHop.com, after spending a relatively quiet year in the wake of her split from Crime Mob.

Despite their tremendous success in 08, producers like Swizz Beatz, Bangladesh, Don Cannon, and Shawty Redd have no plans on taking it easy in 2009.

As a matter of fact, all four revealed that they plan on using the momentum they built with their most recent accomplishments to achieve new career heights.

“Mine is simple: to win a Grammy and make more hits,” said Redd, who is up for his first Grammy this year, thanks to his production work on Snoop Dogg’s#### single “Sensual Seduction.”

Of course, like millions of Americans, several artists including Diamond D, Lil’ Scrappy and Shawty Lo plan on making 2009 a healthier year.

At the forefront is Bad Boy South recording artist Gorilla Zoe, who is determined to keep the changes he adapted with his “Don’t Feed The Animal” weight loss challenge at the end of the year.

Still, perhaps inspired by the unprecedented social impact the Hip-Hop generation had on the world during this year‘s presidential election, many are looking at 2009 as an opportunity to become better citizens.

“My resolution is to become more involved with giving,” Heavy D told AllHipHop.com. “I’ve never been a selfish person by nature. But seeing all of my blessing and recognizing them are two separate issues. Since the birth of my child nine years ago, I recognize all of my blessings. Now I want more so that I can give more. I want my daughter to understand that the pleasure of [lending] a helping hand is greater than any material gift.”

AHH YEAR END: What Are We Looking Forward To In ’09

Hate it or love it, 2008 will go down as a historical year in and outside of Rap. First and foremost we have Barack Obama winning the Presidential election. But on the flipside our country hit economic lows that haven’t been seen since The Great Depression. Inside of the music spectrum we had Kanye West push the creative envelope and Lil Wayne doing a milli first week with his eyes closed. So amongst some fantastic triumphs and terrible failures of 2008, AllHipHop.com looks forward to what seems to be the most anticipated twelve months in some time.

But obviously we are not alone in the excitement for 2009 to unravel. Will Barack get our country back in fighting shape? Will Dr. Dre ever push the button on Detox? Only time with tell. Regardless we check in with the year in review brain trust to see what everyone is looking forward to seeing next year. Some answers will surprise and some answers will outrage. You be the judge.

Kardinal Offishal: In 2009, I’m looking forward to making kids. Maybe I been hanging around with Akon too long [laughing]!

Black Milk: I’m definitely looking forward to the economy being better than it was in ‘08. It was a sh***y year for everybody’s pockets. Also I hope everything works out with the auto industry and the bailout cause being from Detroit, you have family and friends that work for different auto plants out here and that’s one of the main forms of employment for a lot of people.

Other then that, the damn gas prices staying under two dollars like it is right now. Those types of prices make you want go get gas when you don’t even need it.

Wale: I’m looking forward to seeing if the economy can bounce back. We real f***ed up now.  I’m also looking forward to the Air Yeezys. And I’m looking forward to the Redskins drafting anybody that can help us. I’m looking forward to Blueprint 3. And I’m looking forward to fans challenging musicians to make some better content.

Juelz Santana: I want n****s to step their sh*t up, everybody. I want everyone to step their sh*t up, let’s get it rocking.

?uestlove: January 20th used to be my birthday and the occasional day off for Martin Luther King Day but someone done gone and messed that up for me.

Joe Budden: Outside of anything I am attached to, I’m looking forward to the Eminem album. I’m looking forward to Jay’s album. I’m looking forward to 50’s album. I want to hear Lupe too. I want to hear Jadakiss’ album Andre 3000 need to stop bullsh*tting and do a whole album again.

Shawty Lo: Outside of my career, I’m looking forward to being more focused on my family and my health.  I also want to stay involved with the American Diabetes Association and other organizations that I feel I can contribute to in a positive way and do positive things that mean something to me.  I just want to leave all the negative stuff behind and become a better person, even though I know it’s going to be a process, I’m trying to stay focused on improving myself on every level.

Sheek Louch: In ’09, my biggest resolution as far music is that we should get behind a lot of artists. We had some ups and downs, and I learned more to be more of a CEO. Hopefully break into these films and nail these scripts and auditions. The acting classes are a hundred percent at the top of the year. I felt like that after not getting a couple of roles.

Charles Hamilton: I’m looking forward to looking forward.

Mick Boogie: Lots of new groups coming out that I enjoy and people are finding out about. People like U-N-I, Pacific Division, Sixth Sense, The Knux, B.O.B. It’s refreshing to see this talented new generation getting the respect it deserves.

Corey Gunz: A classic album from me and I’m looking forward to see what changes are going to happen in Hip-Hop next year.

D Nice: As a DJ, I’m a little bored with playing a lot of the Hip-Hop that’s out. Like a lot the good records like the Common “Universal Mind Control” that kind of beat is crazy in the clubs and I never understood why people are doing that more? Maybe Missy experimented with that before and Snoop too with that last record. I’m looking forward to hearing people doing more of those kind of grooves and uptempos, those joints that you can really groove to. Other than that I’m looking forward to this new Jay-Z record. I want to see what he has to say. He’s definitely at a crossroads right now.

Also I am looking for a new trend for the next year and it goes back to Barack. I hope people start become a little more conscious in 2009. I don’t want everybody running around like militants but we owe it to ourselves to kind of help this dude be a great president. And we can help him even through our music. When Jay-Z did the whole button up thing, people did that and started acting more mature. So I hope the trend to follow next year is to be presidential, and to be on point.

Chamillionaire: I’m really looking forward to Barack Obama’s inauguration day and hopefully the end of the recession sometime soon. I know it could take a while before the economy is back to where it should be but it seems like everybody in the world is getting hit with hard times right now. If Eminem, Dr. Dre, Jay Z, and Andre 3000 all drop albums, maybe I will have enough dope music to make me forget about a recession. I’m looking forward to that but for now that’s just wishful thinking.

Killer Mike: I’m looking for big hit records. I repeat I am looking for big hit records. Just in case you missed my first two sentences, I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO BIG HIT RECORDS! Thank you. Oh yeah, Grind Time Rap Gang Bang Bang Bang!

Slim Thug: To bring this Houston look to where it needs to be. I want to bring back my city to getting that proper love we’re supposed to be getting. That’s basically what my plans are for ’09.
