(AllHipHop News) Yung Berg took a moment to speak to AllHipHop.com about his most recent mixtape “Chicago Redemption.”
According to Yung Berg, the 22-track mixtape has amassed over 100,000 downloads since its release in early June.
“I just started making records and I was like I really wanna go back to Chicago, it had been four years,” Yung Berg told AllHipHop.com. “I’m just use to flying my family out (for holidays). I got in the studio and the records just started happening at a rapid pace.”
The Chicago-native lined up a variety of local acts for “Chicago Redemption,” which features Twista, Do or Die, Naledge, Paypa and a crop of new Chicago artists.
But Yung Berg, who got his start in part with Chicago label Infared Music Group (the same label that houses L.E.P. Bogus Boys), left the city in 2008.
During interviews at the time, the climate in Chicago had apparently turned against Berg, who at the time, was only working with acts like his brother Cap-One or veteran group Do or Die.
The same year, L.E.P. Bogus Boys released a diss record titled “We Ain’t Finna Play” against their former label mate.
Yung Berg has returned to the city with a positive outlook, thanks in part to the success of “Chicago Redemption.”
“I’m in a different vibe, I’m a producer, a song writer and I’m also an artist. There was a point where I was like ‘I might not even have to spit’ but the love of the game is just everything and i am feeling like I’m really good.”
Yung Berg’s newest artist Mia Rey is also planning a new EP set to release titled Perfect Timing on August 2.
