The Konvict Muzik Company has launched a new London office, AllHipHop.com has learned.
The Akon-helmed label, which is also home to T-Pain and Kardinal Offishall, made the move in March of this year in an effort to expand it’s roster of international artists.
“We will be scanning Europe and Africa for the next mega superstars,” says Melvin Brown, CEO and Co-owner of Konvict Muzik. “When Akon and I partnered and created Konvict Muzik, we agreed that we would have the hottest artists on our roster. I have concentrated on diversifying the artist roster and creating an international presence. I personally look for unique artists.”
While Brown would not comment on recent rumors that British rapper Sway is part of this new international label, he confirmed the addition of two new international groups: the Reggae/R&B/Hip-Hop trio American Yard and Dutch boy band GLOWB.
Set to go on the Johnny Wright Production Bandemonium Tour with three other pop groups including the new Menudo starting in May, Brown believes GLOWB is the key to taking Konvict Muzik to the next level.
“I want something that sets us aside from the rest and is completely different than the average every day music you hear,” Brown told AllHipHop.com. “I want real talent that can be maximized and molded into mega superstars such as Akon, T-Pain and now GLOWB. I realized that there is so much out there when I began the quest with GLOWB and it motivated me to broaden the spectrum of demographics. ”
Rounding out Konvict’s current roster are R&B singer Ray L, Pop/R&B act Colby O, and Atlanta rapper Dolla, who all working on their debut albums, due out in 2008.
Akon himself is prepping the untitled follow up to his multi-platinum sophomore release Konvicted, which is due in stores this Spring.
