Ashanti called out Nelly for snoozing through their baby’s cries while she handled the midnight parenting duties solo on their new reality show, Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together.
In a recent episode, the R&B singer didn’t hold back when addressing her husband’s deep sleep habits, especially now that their son Kareem Kenkaide Haynes is nearing his first birthday.
As the couple discussed Nelly’s upcoming global tour, Ashanti pointed out that his absence wouldn’t change much at home.
“It’s just with the baby it’s a lot,” she said. “I’m trying to understand how is it that you sleep through when he starts crying?”
Nelly, 50, admitted he wasn’t exactly hands-on during those late-night wakeups. “Do y’all really be up at night? I heard about it,” he replied.
The couple welcomed Kareem in July 2023, just months before Nelly launched his Where The Party At Tour in March. The tour spanned across continents, leaving Ashanti to juggle motherhood while her husband took to the stage.
Later in the episode, Nelly confessed he wasn’t too invested in the early stages of parenting.
“Cause once he get to walking and talking, he with the crew,” he said, suggesting his involvement will kick in once Kareem is more interactive.
Kareem will celebrate his first birthday on July 18.
