Boosie Badazz unsurprisingly disliked Lil Nas X’s “J Christ” music video. The outspoken rapper condemned Lil Nas X’s latest release on Friday (January 12).
“THIS ‘Whatever’ IS SO DISRESPECTFUL ITS SAD SMH,” Boosie wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Lil Nas X’s “J Christ” video featured extensive use of religious iconography and biblical references. It also included impersonators portraying Barack Obama, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and more celebrities.
Social media detractors accused Lil Nas X of blasphemy. Some even labeled him a Satanist. He mocked the Satanist allegations, joking about his video depicting him breaking Satan’s ankles with a crossover.
“I’ve crossed satan up and broke his ankles, snapped his neck and literally killed him, made a song referencing the return of jesus, and somehow yall still think im a satanist,” Lil Nas X wrote on X. “I can not win lmaooo.”
Lil Nas X, an openly queer artist, generated controversy with his so-called “Christian era” over the past few months. The rollout began in November 2023 as Lil Nas X used more and more religious imagery to tease the release of his “J Christ” single.
The Columbia Records artist stirred the pot when he unveiled the “J Christ” cover art on Monday (January 8). The artwork showed him on a cross, evoking the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Lil Nas X defended his cover art amid backlash, calling out Christian gatekeepers on social media.
“The crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of jesus,” he wrote on X. “Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world. I’m not making fun of s###. yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. s###.”
