(AllHipHop News) James “LL Cool J” Smith became the first Hip Hop artist to be recognized at The Kennedy Center Honors. Some of the biggest names in the culture took to the stage at the Washington, DC event to pay homage to the legendary emcee.
Queen Latifah and Questlove gave introductory speeches about LL’s legacy before Busta Rhymes, MC Lyte, Black Thought, and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels performed some of the icon’s greatest hits. Fellow 2017 Kennedy Center Honors recipients Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Carmen de Lavallade, and Norman Lear were honored at the ceremony as well.
