The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will Smith
DJ Jazzy Jeff hopes talks for a “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” TV revival are successful.
Jeff, who played Jazz, the best friend of Will Smith’s character in the show, claims discussions have taken place over a reunion and adds that he’d be willing to participate.
“There have been talks with people about doing something,” he told British newspaper The Sun. “I think it would be cool if they did it and go down memory lane again.”
The 52-year-old, who has reconvened his musical partnership with Will for two European concerts this month, is delighted the show is still fondly remembered more than two decades after the last episode aired in 1996.
“It’s a blessing to be part of something that people still hold in high regard,” he insisted. “You can’t beat that. It’s hard for people to keep their attention span normally, but to be able to keep it for all these years and transcend generations, put their kids onto it, this is deep.”
While Will has ruled out returning to the show, he has previously shared that he would back a reboot that didn’t feature him.
“If somebody wanted to, I would probably let them, but I have no intention (of returning),” he told Entertainment Tonight last year.
Between 1987 and 1993, Jeff and Will released five albums together.
However, Will later pursued a Hollywood career, appearing in films such as “Men in Black” and “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
And while Jeff is pleased his pal has had huge success, he’s long campaigned for a reunion.
“This has been a long time coming,” he explained. “I have been fighting for it. Being one of the biggest movie guys in the world, it was really about Will’s schedule and freeing up the time.”
They will perform at MTV Summerblast in Croatia on August 26!and at Blackpool, England’s Livewire Festival the following day.
