Donald Trump became the center of attention Tuesday (September 23) after a towering 12-foot statue showing him hand-in-hand with Jeffrey Epstein appeared on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of an unannounced art installation marking “Friendship Month.”
The sculpture, which portrays Trump and the late convicted sex offender grinning and skipping together atop twin pedestals, was installed by a shadowy artist collective known as The Secret Handshake. The group, which claims fewer than five members, said the piece was intended to highlight Trump’s past ties to Epstein.
A plaque at the base reads, “In honor of Friendship Month, we celebrate the long-standing bond between President Donald J. Trump and his closest friend Jeffrey Epstein.”
Two smaller plaques reference a birthday note Trump allegedly sent Epstein, complete with crude sketches.

The White House swiftly pushed back. A spokesperson told The Independent, “Liberals are free to waste their money however they see fit – but it’s not news that Epstein knew Donald Trump, because Donald Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep.”
The statue, made from foam, resin, wood and wire, was placed with a permit from the National Park Service and is scheduled to remain on display until Saturday (September 28) at 8 P.M.
Crowds began gathering shortly after sunrise Tuesday, snapping photos and debating the meaning of the piece.
Trump and Epstein’s social relationship dates back to the 1990s and early 2000s. Epstein was a guest at Trump’s 1993 wedding to Marla Maples, and the two were often seen at the same events.
In a 2002 interview with New York Magazine, Trump said, “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy.”
Their connection reportedly fractured in the mid-2000s. Trump has claimed he cut ties with Epstein after the financier allegedly recruited underage girls from one of Trump’s Florida clubs.
Trump has repeatedly denied any involvement in Epstein’s crimes and said he hadn’t spoken to him for years before Epstein’s 2019 arrest.
However, audio recordings released in 2023 captured Epstein referring to Trump as his “closest friend,” raising questions about the timeline of their falling out.
The statue’s arrival comes as the Justice Department faces criticism for releasing tens of thousands of pages tied to Epstein’s case, many of which lawmakers say were already public.
House Speaker Mike Johnson recently told reporters that Trump “was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down,” though that claim has not been independently confirmed.
Epstein died by suicide in August 2019 while in federal custody awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His death continues to fuel speculation and investigations into his network of high-profile associates.
The National Mall has seen a wave of politically charged installations in recent months, including a golden Trump statue clutching a Bitcoin and a massive sculpture of bananas.
As of now, officials haven’t said whether they’ll remove the Trump-Epstein piece before the permit expires.
The statue is scheduled to remain on the National Mall through Saturday (September 28).
