Legendary
Wu-Tang MC Ghostface Killah will join the likes of Big Daddy Kane, Lupe Fiasco,
and Rhymefest when he headlines the third annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival on
June 23. "Ghost
is simply in his own category. His track record of hits is over 10 years long,"
said festival chair, Wes Jackson in a statement. “He has rocked with everyone
from Beyonce to MF Doom. Who else can say that? His versatility and borderless
creativity is exactly what the BHF is all about. As we move park- wide we couldn’t
ask for a better MC at the top of the bill." Joining
Ghostface this year at the Tobacco Warehouse in DUMBO, Brooklyn will be Queens
rapper Consequence, Skillz, and Brooklyn-based rap group Tanya Morgan. “We
are very excited to be part of the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. The event is one
of the most highly anticipated concerts in New York [and] from what I can tell
it’s a crazy event to be aligned with,” DonWill of Tanya Morgan told
AllHipHop.com. “I have never been to the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival so I’m
lookin’ forward to just being there too. The line up is crazy man and for
us to be listed up there with skillz, quence and ghost not only makes us feel
appreciated but also puts a lil’ extra pressure on our performance, but we
ain’t in the business of letting people down so don’t miss the show!”
The concert featuring Ghostface will take place on June 23, but the festival
has expanded to include other events such as the Stax Records 50th Anniversary
Celebration, a screening of Wild Style, and the David Alan Harvey photography
exhibit. The
Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival is free although a minimum $5 donation is suggested.
