Kevin Gates has found some common ground with Lil Wayne regarding his recent comments about Drake. On Monday (January 29), TMZ caught up with Gates, who expressed his opinion at length concerning Wayne’s comments about the plight of lightskin artists. However, instead of generalizing his comments to focus on his interactions in the rap world, Gates opted to expand his remarks to cover a much more broad spectrum of society.
“No, I ain’t going just say just rappers I’ll say like, just bright people,” Gates said in part. “Bright people they have it. They the first ones to get picked. Some people never did nothing ain’t even gangster, they just ugly. So people stay away from them.”
Gates continued, revealing how he has personally shouldered the flak he’s received and utilized it to affirm his identity’s authenticity.
“But like I’ll say, adversity, builds character you know what I’m saying, so I’ve been battle tested,” he added. “I’m stamped, I’m sealed I’m certified and I’m approved.”
Lil Wayne recently appeared on The Richard Sherman Podcast, during which Sherman questioned the Undisputed sportscaster about the negativity directed at his protégé.
“Why they be hating on Drake like this? That’s what I don’t understand,” the five-time NFL Pro Bowler asked Lil Wayne on the show. The 5x-Grammy Award winner responded, “He’s red, he’s light-skinned.”
The “2 Phones” lyricist went on to explain the the significance of the title of his upcoming album in addition to plugging his fledging new coffee bred Rituals.
