A number of Houston rappers paid their final respects to UGK’s Chad “Pimp C.” Butler earlier today (December 13) in Port Arthur, Texas.
Thousands of people attended the funeral, which was held at the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center.
Pimp C.’s rhyming partner Bun B., Chamillionaire, Mike Jones, Willie D. of the Geto Boys, Bishop Don Magic Juan, Rap-A-Lot CEO James Prince, David Banner, 8Ball and DJ Paul were among those in attendance.
Pimp C., 33, died in his bed on December 4 of unknown causes at the Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood, California.
“Without him we wouldn’t be where we are,” Rap-A-Lot CEO J Prince told the Associated Press. “I tell everybody, Pimp was Tupac to the South. We probably loved him even more than the West Coast loved ‘Pac. Everybody that’s rapping today is imitating Pimp.”
A preacher delivered a sermon during the two-hour religious ceremony, which also featured readings from Jive Records’ Senior Director of A&R Jeff Sledge and Pimp C.’s mother Weslyn Monroe.
