Legendary Hip-Hop pioneer Luis DJ Disco Wiz Cedeño will kick off the Bronx Museum of Arts Bronx Talks series with a book signing for his new memoir, Its Just Begun: The Epic Journey of DJ Disco Wiz, Hip-Hops First Latino DJ.
The release of the 180-page book marks the latest achievement for Cedeño, who is noted for his alliance with fellow Hip-Hop legend Grandmaster Caz to form the Mighty Force Crew.
The union proved fruitful in 1977 as Cedeño and Caz created a mixed plate which combined sound bites, special effects and paused beats.
Its Just Begun offers 50 never-before-seen photos coupled with a look inside Cedeños world as it chronicles his turbulent relationship with his father and efforts to protect his mother who was suffering from breast cancer while growing up in the Bronx in the 1960s and 70s.
While the half-Cuban, half-Puerto-Rican turntablists rise during the early years of Hip-Hop is prominently featured, the book also delves into Cedeños time behind bars at the age of 17 on an attempted murder charge in addition to his journey towards overcoming his setbacks through love, self-respect, and self-determination.
Cedeños book signing is the first event lined up for the Bronx Talks series. The monthly event will feature Bronxbased writers and/or books about the Bronx.
The book signing for Cedeños Its Just Begun: The Epic Journey of DJ Disco Wiz, Hip-Hops First Latino DJ will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. September 25 at the museum.
Admission is free.
