(AllHipHop News) Former child soldier-turned-rapper Emmanuel Jal has snagged a variety of high profiled politicians, activists and celebrities for his new video “We Want Peace.” Emmanuel Jal is a former child soldier who was born into the life of a child soldier. He lost his mother during Sudan’s first civil war, which ravaged the country from 1983-2005 and resulted in the deaths of more than 2 million people. Activist/actor George Clooney, Virgin mogul Richard Branson, Alicia Keys, UN Secretary General/Nobel Laureate Kofi Annan and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter are featured in Emmanuel Jal’s new “We Want Peace” video. Jal is raising his profile as Sudan heads for another civil war, as the oil rich Southern half of the country is attempting to succeed from the Northern half, where valuable oil pipelines run.On January 9th, the people of Southern Sudan, who are mostly Christian, will vote to split from the Northern part of the country, which is mostly Muslim, creating two new countries. Many activists and experts feel a second genocidal war is on the brink of breaking out in 2011. Emmanuel Jal is the international spokesperson for Refugees United, Amnesty International and Oxfam. His music has been featured in three ER episodes, the feature film Blood Diamonds and on a variety of releases and projects since his debut in 2004. “I didn’t have a life as a child. In five years as a fighting boy, what was in my heart was to kill as many Muslims as possible,” Emmanuel Jal has said of his renounced past in previous interviews.
