Rick Ross will return to his Mississippi roots Thursday (June 19) as Clarksdale officials rename a stretch of Issaquena Avenue in his honor during a public ceremony at 12:30 p.m. outside the WingStop he owns at 300 Issaquena Avenue.
The event will recognize the Grammy-nominated rapper’s ties to the community and his influence across music and business.
“The City of Clarksdale is proud to announce the official naming of a downtown street in honor of Grammy-nominated, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and cultural icon Rick Ross,” the city said in a statement released Monday.
Rick Ross has long maintained a connection to Clarksdale through family ties and frequent visits. His impact extends beyond Hip-Hop, with ventures in food franchises and real estate.
“Rick Ross has deep roots in Clarksdale through his family heritage and frequent visits to the city. Known globally for his commanding voice and lyrical talent, Ross has made a powerful impact on both the music industry and the business world,” the city said.
The street naming is part of a broader effort to celebrate Clarksdale natives who have made significant contributions to arts, culture and commerce.
“Clarksdale leaders and community members will gather to celebrate Ross’ contributions and recognize the positive light he has brought to his ancestral hometown,” the city added. “The street naming marks a historic moment for Clarksdale, honoring a native son who continues to inspire through art, culture, and enterprise.”
