(AllHipHop News) Vic Mensa’s recent promotional run for The Autobiography album included the Chicago emcee taking part in Pitchfork‘s “Over/Under” video series.
The “Rage” rapper had to rate several random topics such as meditation, Garth Brooks, Six Flags, caviar, Spice Girls, and Hugh Hefner.
Mensa was specifically asked for his thoughts on Tupac Shakur’s 1995 letter to Madonna.
“2Pac’s letter to Madonna is underrated, and at the same time also overrated,” responded the Roc Nation signee. “Just because it was so truthful and they just made it into a headline.”
Vic continued, “So they probably made 2Pac, to people that didn’t read into it or don’t really know that much about him, seem like [he’s] racially shallow… So I would say 2Pac’s letter is overrated just because they’ve taken it out of context.”
The letter – written while Shakur was in jail – showed the iconic Hip Hop figure was concerned how his fans would react to him dating a white, Pop superstar.
“For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting,” Pac wrote to Madonna. “But for me at least in my previous perception, I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.”
