Premier named two beat makers from Virginia and his protegé as his picks for underrated producers. For his list of most underrated rappers, Royce went with a veteran Philly rhymer, a GOOD Music representative, and a toss-up between two emcees that launched their careers in the early 2000’s.

K. Dot’s second major label studio LP opened with around 324,000/363,000 SPS album sales first week, and it added an additional 107,000/123,000 SPS the following week. When calculating “sales plus streaming” numbers, it now sits at close to 550,000 units.

To Pimp A Butterfly joins Good Kid, M.A.A.D City as the second gold release from Kendrick. GKMC went on to sell over 1.3 million copies.

As for other recent Hip Hop releases, Wale’s The Album About Nothing is expected to hit number one on the charts with 90,000/98,000 SPS. Ludacris’ Ludaversal is looking at 58,000/67,000 SPS.

With Kendrick holding the top spot for the previous two weeks and Wale scoring his second #1 LP, rap albums will sit at the pinnacle of the album chart for three consecutive weeks. That feat has not been accomplished since Kanye West’s Yeezus (1 week), Wale’s The Gifted (1 week), J. Cole’s Born Sinner (1 week), and Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail (2 weeks) controlled the chart for five consecutive weeks in 2013.

Wale Discusses If Hip Hop Could Accept A Gay Rapper & The State Of The Music Industry (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) With the success of Empire and the focus on its running theme of homophobia in Hip Hop, the conversation about homosexual performers in the culture has become a mainstream topic. “I think so. I think 2015 is another world as compared to 1995. I mean everything is different,” said Wale. “We got a black president. I would think there would be a gay rapper before a black president. It’s socially accepted. It’s like taboo to speak bad on the gay community now.”

Another transition taking place in the industry is the rise of streaming. 2014 saw revenues from streaming surpass revenues from CD sales for the first time ($1.87 billion to $1.85 billion). Wale addressed the changing climate of the business.

“Music is actually in a weird place right now, because you got the streaming. You got iTunes, Spotify, now Jay Z has Tidal,” Wale stated. “We’re not really going to know the significance of the place we’re in right now for like the next ten years.”
