50 Cent On Donald Sterling: "I Just Saw A Man Being Betrayed" (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent may be in the middle of promoting his upcoming album Animal Ambition, but that did not stop the Queens rapper from sharing his thoughts on the Donald Sterling saga.

While most of the media and the public focused on the racist comments Sterling was taped telling “girlfriend” V. Stiviano and his later rants against Magic Johnson on CNN, 50 seemed to be more concerned with the relationship between Sterling and Stiviano, and how the Los Angeles Clippers owner was “betrayed.”

50 told XXL:

I’m going to be honest with you. I couldn’t get past the concept of looking at an older man talking to a woman he was in love with and making probably the biggest compromise ever, saying maybe, ‘If you like them, be with them. Sleep with them. Just don’t embarrass me.’ So some of the things he said following that were inappropriate, but he’s saying to you that there’s other people around that I’m being embarrassed by that think and feel the way I feel. Now you’ve got one person that you’re pointing to, penalizing for that. He’s actually saying at that point, ‘Just don’t embarrass me.’ Meaning, there’s other people that feel exactly like me here to be embarrassed by. I just watched it, and I just saw a man being betrayed.

Mark Cuban Apologizes To Trayvon Martin Family For "Black Kid In A Hoodie" Comments

(AllHipHop News) Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban created a stir this week with comments he made during an interview with Inc. In the aftermath of the Donald Sterling controversy, Cuban addressed the issue of race and bigotry in the video Q&A. He suggested everyone prejudges others, including himself.

“If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street,” said Cuban. “And if on that side of the street, there’s a guy that has tattoos all over his face – white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere – I’m walking back to the other side of the street.”

While some praised the Shark Tank star for openly admitting his own prejudices, the statement also drew criticism for what was seen as an unbalanced equivalency of being fearful of an African American child wearing an article of clothing as compared to a white man with face tattoos.

The comments also upset others, because it seemed to reference the sensitive subject of the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin. Cuban took to Twitter to apologize to Martin’s family, but stood by the rest of his statements.

Reports Mos Def Is Banned From Entering U.S. Are A "Complete Lie" Says Friend

(AllHipHop News) The Internet went into a frenzy when the Together Boston Musical Festival posted a message on its website claiming Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey) was barred from re-entering the United States. The organizers stated that “immigration/legal issues” were preventing the rapper/actor from performing at their event.

Times Live is reporting that those statements are completely untrue. The South African based publication spoke with a friend of Mos Def. Abdi “Whosane” Hussein is denying that the Brooklyn born artist is unable to return to the States.

“[Mos Def] has never attempted to enter any country and been refused. It’s a complete lie,” says Hussein. “In fact, if there was anything criminal against you, they would invite you back so they could lock you up.”

Hussein, who appeared on the 2010 track “Taxi” with Mos, is another American currently living in Cape Town, South Africa. Mos Def moved to the country in 2013. Earlier this year he told an audience at Cape Town’s Music Exchange Conference that it was hard for him to leave his home, but he was glad he relocated.

The “Umi Says” performer is currently participating at the Re-imagination Creative Hub in Addis Ababa. The program is part of the African Union’s “Agenda 2063” global strategy to “optimize use of Africa’s resources for the benefit of all Africans.”

Hussein adds it is Mos Def’s work on various projects on the Continent that has caused him to move the dates of his concert appearances in America, not any government prevention.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did “Torture”Video Cause Most Def’s “Immigration Issues”?

THIS JUST IN: Reports Mos Def Is Banned From Entering U.S. Are A “Complete Lie” Says Friend

MOS DEF aka YASIIN BEY IS FROM BROOKLYN!

Why the hell can’t he get back into the United States of American, where is is a naturalized citizen? You probably know, last year Mos made a video that was seen by millions and millions of people over the world. Mos Def’s video was one that was protesting the force feeding of prisoners involved in hunger strikers at Guantanamo Bay. Some have speculated that the video has p##### off and subsequently embarrassed the U.S. government. They are now making it hard on one of Hip-Hop’s most outspoken artists, I’m hearing.

I don’t know exactly how this sort of spite works. Despite may questions, answers are few. Hopefully he can find some resolution soon.

Kanye West's Next Album Reportedly Will Be "Soulful" & "Dark"

(AllHipHop News) The speculation surrounding Kanye West’s next album has been ongoing for months.

There were reports Ye was going to try his hand at spoken word on the project. Then producer Evian Christ stated the Chicago rapper wanted a sound “a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep.” One of the earliest stories was the Yeezus follow-up would only be eight songs.

More sources are now saying that may not be the case. According to Billboard, Kanye’s seventh studio album will have more than eight songs. It is also said to have a similar tone to Yeezus with a return to Ye using soul samples.

The music publication reports:

A source says that as of two-weeks ago, there’s 12 songs on the album. Out of six heard, it’s “mostly a mixture of soul samples and tamed ‘Yeezus’-esque darkness… nothing abrasive.”

Cop Says Tupac Refused To Snitch On Who Shot Him Before He Died

(AllHipHop News) In Hip Hop and the urban community at large have a generally adversarial attitude towards the police. In a recent interview with Vegas Seven, the first police officers at the scene of Tupac’s fatal shooting back in 1996 spoke about Tupac’s final words.

The former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer, Chris Carroll states that he received the call of gunfire near the intersection of Flamingo and Koval around 11:15p.m. and was the only police officer in the vicinity. According to Carroll, when he initially attempted to get Tupac to reveal the identity of his shooter, ‘Pac was too busy “trying to yell at Suge”:

So I’m looking at Tupac, and he’s trying to yell back at Suge, and I’m asking him, ‘Who shot you? What happened? Who did it?’ And he was just kind of ignoring me. He was making eye contact with me here and there, but he’s trying to yell at Suge. And I kept asking over and over, ‘Who did this? Who shot you?’ And he basically kept ignoring me. And then I saw in his face, in his movements, all of a sudden in the snap of a finger, he changed. And he went from struggling to speak, being noncooperative, to an ‘I’m at peace’ type of thing. Just like that.

Carroll later details the last words Tupac uttered before “he started gurgling and slipping out of consciousness”:

He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth, and I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘F*ck you.

50 Cent Explains Why Solange Would've Never Swung on Him, His Son's Graduation + MORE (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent stopped by SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation last night and spoke with DJ Envy about not being at his son’s graduation, why Solange would have never swung on him if he was in Jay Z’s position in the elevator fight and more

50 Cent built an empire on the image of a man who survived nine bullet shots and is an aggressive marketer. According to 50, that image would have kept Solange Knowles hands off of him if he was in Jay Z’s position during the infamous elevator fight:

I think that they would understand that if you do that then I don’t actually have the ability to not [retaliate]. I think that’s happening because that he can sustain and watch. Now, if you know a person’s temperament…Lil Mama walking on stage, she feels that comfortable with Jay. If I was there, she wouldn’t have walked on that stage with me.

Earlier this week, news surfaced that 50 Cent was absent at his son, Marquise Jackson’s high school graduation. 50 Cent explains that the root of the reason for his absence is Marquise’s mother and their lack of communication:

We don’t have communication like that. During the Easter holiday, they stopped by my grandparents home and talk to some of my aunts and said some stuff about it. But, they didn’t say anything to me about it. I’m overseas at the time they could’ve easily said ‘is there way I can reach out to him to give him the actual time and place?’ Really what it is is a girl looks for any opportunity where she can shed some light on her being associated with me in some way.

Hip Hop Rumors: Did Future Miss The Birth of Baby Future?

Future and Cici have been oozing with happiness since the birth of their new baby boy, Future. But according to sources, Future may have skipped out on the actual labor.:

Sandra Rose reports:

“When the news broke that songbird Ciara finally gave birth to her first baby and rapper Future‘s 4th child on Monday many wondered if Future was present when Ciara gave birth. It turns out Future was nowhere near the delivery room when Ciara gave birth to little Future Zahir Wilburn on May 19.
According to Hot 97′s DJ Flex, Future was performing live onstage at VICE’s Bacardi “Loud and Untamable” event in Brooklyn, NY hours after Ciara gave birth. Surely he could’ve canceled the performance when he learned that Cici went into labor?”

Hmmmm now we would hope Future wouldn’t miss his baby boy’s birth…but you never know…

D’Angelo + Questlove Talk Soulquarian Sleepovers, Not Being Neo Soul + More

(AllHipHop News) What happened last night (May 21st) at Brooklyn Arts Museum on 200 Eastern Parkway can only be described as magic.  D’Angelo gave his first ever live lecture as apart of Reb Bull Music Academy with guest moderator Nelson George and surprise guest Questlove.

Before stating, “Sly you promised” when asked about a potential Sly Stone and D’angelo collaboration, he explains how the funk legend is “f*cking with the autoune sh*t”:

He’s always constantly working on music. It’s the truth. He’s working on mad sh*t. [– Nelson interjects– He played you something?] Yeah. [Nelson George interjects- Ohhhhh!] Yeah, It’s progressive, it’s new and he’s f*cking with the Auto-Tune sh*t”. I heard it and was like ‘Nah damn, why you using Auto-tune? But the way he did it, he’s doing it like no one else. I mean of course, it’s Sly.

DG_210514_RBMAFestival14_0047

When D’Angelo released his last album, 2000’s Voodo, CD’s were still the dominant driver of music sales, there was no social media and a home studio cost in the thousands. In 2014, D’Angelo understands the pervasive nature of outside influences but blocks them out by putting himself in a self-created “bubble”:

To a fault, I think that I’ve put myself in a bubble so  that I’m not affected by any of that. Although it’s hard not to, ‘cause it’s the world we live in now, right? I mean I completely block all this sh*t out. I mean, I have to. When I’m thinking about music or when I’m being creative, I can’t even put my mind there.

DG_210514_RBMAFestival14_0085

Hip Hop’s unofficial orator Questlove was in the packed audience and at various moments participated in the discussion from his seat. After initially coming onto the stage to explain how he first D’Angelo, Questlove returned and during his part of the lecture spoke directly with D’Angelo about the bad side of his self-imposed bubble:

The problem with the bubble thing is that sometimes you’re unaware of the effects. [D’Angelo’s] always amazed at the fact that Voodoo is still rippling. The effects of it are still rippling and spreading. There’s a whole nothing audience that are into it.

With two of the founders of the dynamic movement, The Soulquarians on stage, it was not long before the conversation shifted to that. Accoring to Questlove, the members of the Soulquarian movement recorded solo albums in New York City’s Electric Lady Studios simultaneously. The group began to spend so much time with each other that there were 1998 sleepovers:

Between 1997 and 2001, 2002, we literally just took over Electric Lady Studios. I remember at one point in 1998 it was like sleep overs. We would stay up. Watch Soul Train all night and figure out something. Like see a trick that Al Green’s doing. Mostly it was like practice before the show.

D’Angelo added:

The main premise was, it’s not just going to be one group. It’s not going to be one album that does it, it’s going to be a movement. It’s going to be all of us.

DG_210514_RBMAFestival14_0197

D’ Angelo initially stated  “I plead the fifth” when moderator Nelson George asked if the term neo-soul “was a valid phrase or was it just some PR bullsh*t?” Later he gave an actual answer:

I don’t want to disassociate or anything and respect it and what it is. But I will say this, anytime you put a name on something you pu t## in a box. So, the mai nth ing about the whole ‘neo-soul’ thing, not to put it down, but.. you in a position where you want to grow as an artist. You never want to be told, ‘hey, you not doing what you did on Brown Sugar. But right now, I’m not.

After stating “I never claimed neo-soul”, the usually reclusive artist explained “when I first came out, I started saying I do ‘Black music’. But after an hour of revelatory insights into the life of D’Angelo, it is Questlove who gives the only insight into an “unmentionable, unspoken, third record”:

When Voodoo came out, that was at one point in history, that was a hard pill for a lot of people to swallow. It’s weird now, because it’s in our DNA. But when it came out there were a lot of people that were like whoa, wait a minute, this sounds like an acid trip or something. What are you guys doing? Now it sounds normal, especially compared to the….unmentionable, unspoken third record.
