Producer Mike Dean Admits To Stealing Unreleased 2Pac Songs From Suge Knight

(AllHipHop News) Producer/DJ Mike Dean has been working with the some of the biggest names in Hip Hop since the early 1990’s. His list of production credits include Scarface, 2Pac, Jay-Z, and he has contributed to every Kanye West album. Of course someone with that vast experience in the music industry has plenty of stories to tell.

During an interview with HuffPost Live, Dean, who started his career at Rap-A-Lot Records, talks about his interactions with 2Pac and Suge Knight.

“[2Pac, Scarface, and I] hung out. He played the Makaveli album for us, uncut, where he was talking about all the people he hated. All the stuff they took out of the album,” said Dean. “Lot’s of shots at Puffy, and B.I.G., Dre, saying their names, [and how he] was going to kill them.”

Dean says that he leaked some of Tupac’s more controversial unreleased material after his death.

“After [2Pac] died, Daz Dillinger and I stole a bunch of reels from Suge Knight,” admits Dean. “We released like six songs that were really crazy talking.”

When asked if he was fearful that Suge would retaliate against him for stealing Pac’s tracks, Dean made it clear he was not afraid of the former Death Row boss.

“I’m not worried about Suge,” said Dean. “I came from Rap-A-Lot. They learned their gangsta from us.”

Dean also goes on to talk about seeing Suge Knight smack an engineer, Tha Dogg Pound hiding out from Suge at his apartment, and having to pull out his pistol on a friend at work.

Kanye Talks Yeezus, Fatherhood, Taylor Swift & More During Rare Interview

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West very rarely gives interview these days, but the Chicago emcee spoke in-depth with the New York Times recently. Veteran reporter Jon Caramanica got extensive time with the reclusive rap star at Rick Rubin’s Malibu studio during the final days of the making of Yeezus. The G.O.O.D. Music leader discussed numerous topics including his music career, his view on the Grammys, the Taylor Swift interruption, his legacy, and more.

Check out some of the highlights from the interview below.

On the Grammys:

[My Beautiful] Dark [Twisted] Fantasy and Watch the Throne: neither was nominated for Album of the Year, and I made both of those in one year. I don’t know if this is statistically right, but I’m assuming I have the most Grammys of anyone my age, but I haven’t won one against a white person.

But the thing is, I don’t care about the Grammys; I just would like for the statistics to be more accurate.

On the Taylor Swift incident at the VMA’s:

It’s only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It’s only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness. Beauty, truth, awesomeness. That’s all it is.

On 808’s & Heartbreak:

Yeah, people asked me to change my name for that album… Yeah, different people. They said, “Do it under a different name.” And when it came out, people used to be like, “Man, I wish it had more rapping on it.” But I think the fact that I can’t sing that well is what makes “808s” so special… Yeah. I love the fact that I’m bad at [things], you know what I’m saying? I’m forever the 35-year-old 5-year-old. I’m forever the 5-year-old of something.

On becoming famous:

Yeah, I held on to the last moments of [anonymity]. I knew when I wrote the line “light-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson” [from the song “Slow Jamz”] I was going to be a big star. At the time, they used to have the Virgin music [stores], and I would go there and just go up the escalator and say to myself, “I’m soaking in these last moments of anonymity.” I knew I was going to make it this far; I knew that this was going to happen.

On being influenced by Dead Prez:

Before, when I wanted to rap, my raps sounded like a bit like Cam’ron; they sounded a bit like Mase; they sounded a bit like Jay-Z or whoever. And it wasn’t until I hung out with Dead Prez and understood how to make, you know, raps with a message sound cool that I was able to just write “All Falls Down” in 15 minutes.

On fatherhood:

That is a really interesting, powerful question. One of the things was just to be protective, that I would do anything to protect my child or my child’s mother. As simple as that… I don’t want to explain too much into what my thoughts on, you know, fatherhood are, because I’ve not fully developed those thoughts yet. I don’t have a kid yet.

On Yeezus’ sound:

This album is moments that I haven’t done before, like just my voice and drums. What people call a rant — but put it next to just a drumbeat, and it cuts to the level of, like, Run-D.M.C. or KRS-One. The last record I can remember — and I’m going to name records that you’ll think are cheesy — but like, J-Kwon, “Tipsy.” People would think that’s like a lower-quality, less intellectual form of hip-hop, but that’s always my No. 1. There’s no opera sounds on this new album, you know what I mean? It’s just like, super low-bit.

On his place in history:

I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump. I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it’s like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z.

I’ve been connected to the most culturally important albums of the past four years, the most influential artists of the past ten years. You have like, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes, Nicolas Ghesquière, Anna Wintour, David Stern.

I think that’s a responsibility that I have, to push possibilities, to show people: “This is the level that things could be at.” So when you get something that has the name Kanye West on it, it’s supposed to be pushing the furthest possibilities. I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus.

Hip-Hop Rumors: A Blast From The Past Comes Forward To Diss Dr. Dre and Ice Cube

Its funny how time and that “no-f**ks-given” mentality give way to unnecessary commentary, some might argue. But, its seems like a blast from WAY back is coming forward to speak on some things. Well, we all know – or should know – that Dr. Dre had a life before NWA.

DJ Yella of NWA fame was also in that group as well. Well, let me tell you something. A member of the World Class Wreckin Cru has come forward in a new interview and levied some heavy allegations. FOR THE RECORD, I HAVE NOTHING BUT LOVE FOR CUBE n DRE! AND THE REST OF THE COMP-TOWN POSSE!

On Episode 80 of the Murder Master Music Show of UGS Radio, Prezident Bejda spoke with Dr. Dre’s old friend and former member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Cli-N-Tel and he speaks about everything from Dr. Dre beating women (Not just Dee Barnes) to Ice Cube getting bullied at school and later portraying a fake image as a gangsta.

The early West Coast MC described Ice Cube as one who was bullied and was sent to another school by his Mother and never lived anything remotely close to being a gangsta. Basically it was all an act.

At around 20:23

” I took him under my wing and sort of mentored him. We showed him the ropes. As far as Cube being a gangsta and all that stuff, naw! As a matter of fact he was going to Washington High school and he was getting bullied over there and his Mother was scared he was getting beat up too much so she put him on the bus and was shipping him over to Taft High School which was way across town! Cube wasn’t that dude! “

At around 46:25

“I am being honest, he is the Are We There Yet? He projects the other image with the AK and the scowl but the real Cube is more like the Are We There Yet-Guy verses the other guy!”

When speaking about the famous Dee Barnes incident, Cli-N-Tel says that was nothing new.

At around 29:20

“She wasn’t the first one I know of a few others.Yeah I seen him get rawdog with a couple females and we had a couple conversations about that and I told him that is not how I roll!”

When asked about Dre’s sexuality Cli-N-Tel did defend his old friend saying that he was not gay, or at least not when he knew him.

At around 27:09

” I can say for certain 100% there was never ever any indication or hint of him not being a 100% real dude. What ever people want to say about him later I wasn’t there. I wasn’t there when Suge or Pac made those particular statements. As far as his sexuality and knowing that cat and the broads he smashed and the conversations that we had, naw!”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Are Nude Pics Of Chris Brown’s Girl On The Way?

I don’t know what it is with these people, but its something in the water. Apparently, Chris Brown’s girl Karrueche
Tran lost her phone. This has almost immediately created speculation that there are going to be nude pics of her…and possibly the both of them. Now, I would almost automatically assume that she would have a lock of some sort on her phone, but apparently this is not the case. Apparently there is concern that the contents of her phone is going to spill onto the internet and spiral into controversy. And, guess what…I think that’s what Karrueche wants. Nothing like a nude picture scandal to get your career a boost. It worked for Kim Kardashian and others.

R U READY?

By the way, they just posted this image of the two of them. So, they are all lovey dovey now.

‘No friendship without love!’ Brown’s friend Kid Red posted this Instagram photo of Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran on Sunday. Tran has been part of a public love triangle with the singer and his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Rihanna.

Preston Perry – Chicago’s Hope

In the past three years, the city of Chicago has suffered from street violence that has made national news countless times. Last year alone, Chicago had over five hundred murders. This year, we’re already in a position to break that record. This poem “Chicago’s Hope’ was laid on Preston Perry’s heart to write 4 years ago, so he did. Now with the consistent epidemic of murder, gang violence, and street violence still plaguing the city – Preston felt compelled to make a video and release it to the public. His prayer is that this video will help spark real change.

Kanye West Explains All Things “Yeezus”

If you are going to bet one somebody, you have to bet on Kanye West. His methods have become increasingly unconventional and yet, he’s still got the ear of every fan, site, hater and blog, despite the noticeable absence of a single. At a listening session, the creative enigma took the time to explain Yeezus, the process of creating the album and even what the title truly means.

“If you ever see somebody standing next to me, know that they’re better than me at something.

“We didn’t give a f### about what nobody said from the outside looking in. We just wanted to make the best product possible and this is just the beginning of an entire new mentality about how to make music – directly for the people. They said, no, wait ’til August. No, its about delivering some s**t for y’all to go to work to, to ride to, to listen too, work out to. Whatever you do, this is a soundtrack for this s**t. We gonna keep doing this s**t over and over. ”

From Daft Punk working on like 3-4 joints on the album. The first joint, “Onsite,” “I Am a God,” “Black Skinhead.” Mike Dean, Travis Scott, working on the album. Hudson Mohawke, Arthur. Last, but not least that came and helped bring this whole s### together, that executive produced the album with me and the family, is Rick Rubin coming in and like finishing up the whole s### for us, which is legendary because everything we did on this project, everything I did, like when we released ‘Numbers on the Board,” from the video, to the no artwork, to the style of the song and everything, I was like ‘what would Rick Rubin do.’ What was his Def Jam s### that they would do because I remember Rick even saying, he said ‘when we did Def Jam we really wasn’t feeling like we was in competition with nobody body because our s**t was so direct… ‘where we at right now?’ We in the middle of the city right now, open to the muthaf**kin’ streets and nobody is shuttin’ down s### while we make real music.

So I had to go to the god Rick Rubin and play him my s**t, ask him questions and allow him to take this project to an entirely new level. And he made a lot of great decisions at the end and pulled it to a new level.

I wanna explain something about the title Yeezus, simply put West was my slave name and Yeezus is my god name.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Fans Good Deed Gets Him Favor With Action Bronson!

Wow. I heard Action Bronson is not too fond of AllHipHop, but that’s another story. No disdain over these parts. But, there is a great story with the big man that was plucked right off the internet. Its not really a rumor, but also not news. So, here it is:

A #SaaabStory: Meet Nathaniel Benjamin. Young Bronson took it to the audience and lost his phone (the one with the important #’s and unreleased material) in a crowd of thousands. When he jumped on the mic and asked the crowd to help him find the phone, young Nathaniel – who drove 2hrs wearing a bootleg Action Bronson T shirt- raised his hand and saved the day. He was rewarded for his honesty with all access to event, a smooch and a couple pounds to have someone clean smooch off. #SaaabStories 6.11

And what? “Thanks, dude.”
