The Dream Wants Soul Singing Group With Chris Brown, Trey Songz and The Weeknd

In a recent interview with NBC, R&B singer and super producer The Dream revealed that if he could put together an R&B supergroup, he’d call on Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Miguel and The Weeknd.

During the interview, The Dream touches on the riff-raff that popped up last year about The Weeknd stealing Dream’s style.

“What I love about The Weeknd is that he stays his course. He has his own carved out thing in place. Musically, you can’t be affected who somebody saying you sound like because. I would probably be compared to him if he came out first.”

J. Cole Wants To Compete With “White Folks” For Album Of The Year Grammy

(AllHipHop News) “I’m trying to compete with the white people,” said Roc Nation emcee J. Cole during a recent interview with Hartford’s Hot 93.7. The “Power Trip” rapper was speaking on how he want his upcoming album, Born Sinner, to be a competitor for the Grammy’s coveted “Album of the Year” award and not settling for just picking up trophies in the Hip-Hop categories.

Cole expressed that in his opinion Hip-Hop is still not regarded as highly other genres of music citing CBS’ decision to not air Drake’s “Rap Album of the Year” win at the this year’s ceremony and the lack of “Album of the Year” winners from the Hip-Hop community.

[ALSO READ: 55th Annual Grammy Awards Recap]

“I feel like Hip-Hop is little unappreciated,” said Cole. “Not to mention, rappers never win for album of the year. Even Kanye West, who if any rapper deserved it in the past ten years it would be Kanye West with Graduation.”

The Fayetteville, North Carolina native hopes his sophomore LP will put him alongside Lauryn Hill (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) and OutKast (Speakerboxxx/The Love Below) as the only Hip-Hop acts to ever win the Album of the Year Grammy.

While his first official single from Born Sinner, “Power Trip”, is moving up the charts, Cole took time during the Q&A to reflect on one track he missed out on being a part of.

“It was the song ‘Burn’ with Meek Mill and Big Sean. I was suppose to be on that,” admitted Cole.

He also revealed that he, Meek, and Sean had discussed doing a joint mixtape. When that project wasn’t able to materialize, the three rappers planned to release one track together, but Cole ultimately did not make it on the record.

While he missed the Meek Mill/Big Sean collabo, Cole reaffirmed that the joint album with Kendrick Lamar is still in the works, and he said his ultimate collaborations would be a song with 2Pac and Nas and one with Jay-Z and Eminem.

Cole clearly has a love for the rappers he grew up listening to, but he also appreciates the new class of emcees as well.

“There’s a lot of good stuff around the corner. Me, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Kendrick, that whole clique, Joey Bada$$… it’s a lot of heat coming.”

J. Cole’s Born Sinner LP is scheduled for release on June 25th.

New Music: Jay-Z’s New ‘Open Letter’ Discusses Everything From Obama To Cuba To ‘New World Management’

“Obama said ‘chill, you gonna get me impeached”-Jay-Z

(AllHipHop News) After being inspired during a late night studio session last night (April 10th), Jay-Z releases frustrations.

After recent media scrutiny on his recent trip to Cuba, rumored sale of Brooklyn Nets stock and more Hov enlists  Swizz Beatz and Timbaland to release his stress. Mr. Carter waxes poetics over a bouncy ominous track premiered on his Life+Times soundcloud and Hot 97’s Morning Show.

Jay-Z debuted a new song, “Open Letter,” and he doesn’t mince words.

On the song, Jay-Z says, “Politicians never did s**t for me / except lie to me, distort history.”

He also talked about the pressures that he and Obama face in their respective fields.

“Obama said ‘You gonna get me impeached / we don’t need this sh*t anyway chill with me on the beach,” Jay raps.

Briefly, he spoke on the critics that had something to say about his trip with Cuba with wife Beyonce, which was eventually found to be government approved.

“I can turn Havana to Atlanta / ballin’ too much they try to jam you,” he spits. “I’m in Cuba, I love Cubans.”

In his letter he also manages to speak on the recent revelation that he’s selling his stake in The Brooklyn Nets.

“Woulda brought ’em to Brooklyn for free, ‘cept I made a million off you f**kin’ dweebs.

The “Open Letter” also acted as another weapon in the war of radio stations, Hot 97 and Power 105. “We been holding this town up,” said Ebo Darden, Hot 97’s program director.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Beyonce Go To Cuba On A Diplomatic Mission Of PEACE?

See, you critical, over analytical mofos better be ready to choke on your blog posts after this one! I’m laughing my shirt off, but this it a good rumor. I ain’t even gonna lie to you. THIS IS A REAL REPORT. They are saying that Beyonce and Jay could have been sent to Cuba by President Obama on an international exploration of good will! MAN, this is hilarity, but this is what the Examiner is theorizing, especially since they got permission to go over there. You know, most people are not granted such privilege. Most people are not Jay and B either. It seems like Fidel Castro, who is an enemy of the US Government, had to talk some sense in North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un. He was like, “B, if you start this nuclear war stuff, its more than WWIII – ITS A WRAP FOR AT LEAST 70% of the world population. Respect due on the weapons of mass destruction but…CHILL.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Drake To Chris Brown: “I’m F***ing The Love Of Your Life”

HOLY COWPOLY! Drake thinks he’s the Godfather or something, B! According to a recent lawsuit by Chris Brown’s bodyguard, this just how the big fight started.

Drake sent a bottle over to Chris Brown’s VIP at a New York nightclub with a note that said, ““I’m F***ing The Love Of Your Life.” What in Sam Hill. That’s a G move not a move that Wheelchair Jimmy would do. At any rate, yeah man…damn. After that was sent, all hell broke lose.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Trick Daddy G-Up On Lil Wayne In Miami?

Trick Daddy has been pretty quiet lately, but he’s back on the scene in a major rumory way. We all know Trick Daddy loves the kids, but maybe not the kids of Birdman if this rumor is true. When I say “kids” I mean Lil Wayne. I got a tip – which I cannot verify – that Wayne may have gotten checked by the quiet Hip-Hop King of Miami. They say that Weezy was in King of Diamonds strip club and Trick Daddy rolled up with some friends. They allegedly let the YMCMB boss know that he wasn’t welcome in the building at that time. And soon thereafter, Wayne departed without incident, if having cigarette buds throwing at you by other men is considered without incident. Not sure if Wayne was already about to leave or not, but the source that sent this over said that he got checked by Trick Daddy and friends. Why? I wasn’t told, but I can only assume that it may be related to the stuff that got him in hot water with The Heat and Pitbull, another King of MIA-Yo. I don’t quite believe this one, but there are additional details that I omitted so I don’t know for sure.

UPDATE: According to VladTV, this is how it went down in real life. Trick Daddy went IN.

“If anybody don’t like it they can die tonight,” Trick said. “I don’t care who be offended by what I say. I rep my city and want nobody disrespecting. We’ve got to stick together as radio, as artists, as DJs and fans who love the music as a whole. That’s what makes a community. Me and Luke been talking, we’ve been getting together, we’re going to find out some type of way to get this thing back on the road — I can’t go nowhere else, this is my home. So from now on, when they get here, they’re going to have to start checking in.”

Once inside the club, things became more strained when Trick Daddy located Weezy and allegedly threw a cigarette at him. After the situation began drawing attention Lil Wayne was escorted out of the club, despite King of Diamonds trying to difuse the situation by tweeting “YMCMB in the Building!!!!! No worries…”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Guess Who Diddy Was Seen Making Out With? Sorry Cassie!

UPDATE: Diddy took it to Twitter and shot down the rumor! “Attention all Media. I don’t even know Kate Upton personally! I’m not dating her ! What’s being reported is not true. END of story!” Cassie can sign a big exhale of relief!!

I’m sorry Cassie. Its with heavy heart that I post this rumor from the New York Daily News. Diddy is making out with another girl, namely supermodel Kate Upton. Here she is.

I’m into Black women myself, but Ms. Upton appears to be the sort of white babe that would make a brother swiiiiiiiicccccchhhhhh. Anyway, here is the rumor.

Call them Diddyup!
Here’s a duo that’ll make your heads spin — Kate Upton and Sean “Diddy” Combs are hot and heavy.
After the 20-year-old Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl said she was single on Valentine’s Day and had broken up with star Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, she was spotted a little over a month later, on March 24, sucking face with Diddy, 43, at club LIV in Miami Beach.
“They were kissing, they weren’t hiding it,” an eyewitness tells Confidenti@l.
Earlier that night, Diddy, hosting a bash at the club, had tweeted: “Miami … Ain’t no party like a @iamdiddy party … Meet me at Club Liv 2nite #CIROCBOYZ in the building!!!”
The curvy Upton soon joined him in the VIP section and she and the hip-hop mogul stayed together, partying late into the night.
Following their hot hookup in South Beach, the duo met up again in New York, sharing an intimate dinner together at Gemma in the Bowery Hotel on Thursday.
“They were having dinner together,” a source tells us.
Upton, silent on Twitter that day, the next morning tweeted: “Cuddling with my favorite tiger ” an obvious diss to Verlander, because she linked to a picture of her holding an actual tiger cub in a Bazaar magazine shoot.
Diddy, who has been linked to Cameron Diaz and most recently singer Cassie, was spotted with the latter house-hunting in Beverly Hills in January. The relationship has appeared to have since cooled off.

Being an Accidental Racist is No Excuse!

The views and opinions expressed herein are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of AllHipHop.com

20130410-094152.jpg

LL Cool J may indeed be hard as hell, but this is a battle for which he clearly didn’t prepare. He rocked the bells of my brain on his verse in Brad Paisley’s new song Accidental Racist.

I’m saying though…really: “accidental racist?” The name alone is ludicrous. If someone was accidentally being racist and doesn’t stop the racist actions it’s no longer an accident!

Now, I’m not upset that they made the effort. More effort needs to be made to address the vestiges of privilege and oppression still remaining in our society. I agree with Paisley that artists have a responsibility to fostering change in society. And to shoulder that responsibility, artists must be informed.

Accidental Racist or Excused Ignorance?

Accidental Racist is a misinformed attempt at a discussion on race that betrays Paisley’s own words. He says he’s not trying to rewrite history, but the lyrics of this song do exactly that!

In Accidental Racist, Paisley makes an appeal to glorifying Confederate Culture. He makes that claim because he (and his generation) had nothing to do with the issues (i.e. slavery, lynching, KKK terrorism, etc.) that associated Confederate culture with racial tyranny. Yet, such a claim completely ignores the “Invisible Knapsack” of White Privilege. Such a claim demonstrates a complete misunderstanding of reality.

Paisley claims that Whites are “still paying for a bunch of ‘mistakes’ that a bunch of folks made before” his generation came. First, those “bunch of folks” didn’t make “mistakes.” The Institution of Slavery and the system of Jim Crow segregation were the workings of intentional racists…not accidental racists. Further, he doesn’t say that his generation is returning the privilege their Whiteness has accrued. Paisley’s generation didn’t have to contribute to the issues that gave meaning to the Confederacy because the “blessings” of privilege have already been established and the “Progressive Investment in Whiteness” has long been solidified.

He calls himself a “proud Rebel son,” and tries somehow to make that not offensive. Forget the racial overtones of notions of the Confederacy and Rebels. How about the fact that the Rebels were as anti-American as one could be? Did they not take up arms against their government? Did not the Rebels secede from the Union?

Yet, right into that anti-American…anti racial tolerance expression, walks LL Cool J…completely oblivious to what’s happening around him.

Don’t get me wrong: I understand why Paisley would reach out to LL Cool J for this. LL is the only of HipHop’s pioneers who is still relevant. I mean…he was in “Krush Groove!” He may not have Jay-Z’s money and social standing. But, LL Cool J was one of the ones who made it possible for Jigga to exist.

Accidental Racist KrushSo of course it makes sense for Paisley’s Accidental Racist to feature LL Cool J. As plain as that is to see, you’d think (I thought) LL would know better. For, Ladies Love Cool James comes onto the track and begins to show how misinformed he really is!

Rather than an Accidental Racist, LL displays accidental ignorance. And that ignorance is irresponsible. For instance, LL compares “do-rags” to the Confederate Flag. Really?! When have “do-rags” ever been responsible for rallying mobs to take the lives of White people? Meanwhile, the “Red flags” have raised countless orchards of Strange Fruits for the harvest. What kind of comparison is that, LL?

Yet, he didn’t stop there. LL goes further to say, “if you don’t judge my good chains, I’ll forget those iron chains!” (Forgive me Lord, but…) WTF?!?!

Accidental Racist Hoods

If you don’t judge my hoodies, I’ll forget your white hoods?

So, LL Cool J is willing to forget slavery if White people will allow him to wear gold chains without scrutiny? C’mon son! You’ve got to be kidding me.

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued a mere 150 years ago. We are less than three generations removed from the Plantation. A mere 50 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others led the March on Washington. Yet, the Accidental Racist further demonstrates his need for education by stating on Good Morning America that we should not be “victims of something that happened SOOOO long ago!” Rather than being a true friend and providing him with a much needed education, LL Cool J demonstrates his own need for an education by exclaiming his approval of that comment.

The shortsightedness of LL Cool J’s lyrics is emblematic of an even larger problem: celebrities opening their mouths and speaking out without being properly informed. Now, true, we can’t have it both ways. I have been a critique of celebrities being silent on issues of social import. So, on one hand it is great that Brad Paisely and LL Cool J decided to approach this topic. Racism is far from dead and needs to be addressed if we are to ultimately kill it. But, the dialogue of the song does nothing to correct the Accidental Racist so that he might become a Intentional Anti-Racist.

Artists do indeed have a responsibility to lead societal change. And to be responsible with that community trust, artists must take this duty seriously. That means not just being good at your art, but also being well-read and well-informed. If Paisely recognizes that he is an Accidental Racist, then he must use his art to encourage others to be Intentional Anti-Racists. And if LL Cool J is being asked to join his friend on this song and in this effort, then as a friend he has a responsibility to help restore his friend to wholeness…yet, LL simply serves to give cover to the Accidental Racists’ intentional ignorance.

Accidental Racist LLThis is far more problematic because we are talking about LL Cool J. I mean LL dropped his first album in 1985, when HipHop was still “pure” and had purpose. Before the deadly beefs and über misogynism, LL Cool J was part of the culture where HipHop was fun and informative. So, if LL Cool J can miss the mark when it comes to the responsibility of the art form, what are we to expect from the 2Chainz’s and Young Jeezy’s of the world? Maybe Canibus should have taken the mic off his arm, and protected LL from himself?

HipHop and emcees must work to restore the community trust, and again become responsible stewards of the people and their legacy. We need artists who won’t be flippant with history and current events.

Because of culture and the stains of culture, we are left with Accidental Racists, Accidental Misogynists, and Accidental Bigots of all sorts. Shouldn’t our task as artists be to bring some intentionality to undoing those vestiges of hatred?

Hip-Hop Rumors: Drake And His Father Did You Know What With Who?

What is going on? They say “like father , like son,” but Drake and his Pops may be taking it too far.

According to Baller Alert
, Drake and his father like girls that be loving the crew. They share women? Whoa. First of all, this is nothing that I can verify or anything, clearly. But, THE WORD ON THE STREET, is that there is a stripper named Alana that is now pregnant. And Alana doesn’t know who the daddy is. All she knows is that Drake and Pop Pop smashed. Ohh…man this is messy. If the father has the kid, that means Drake had sex with his brother’s mother. And if the baby is Drake’s – well that’s a lucky kid…aw heck no. What am I saying. At least the kid can never sing “started from the bottom now we here.” But I digress. This is what is being said.

For more, Baller Alert

Here is a video of “Alana” talking to Drake’s dad. They also claim Dad was clapping up Deelishis too.
